the demons of 大梦归离 Fangs of Fortune + their true forms as recorded in 《山海经 The Classic of the Mountains and Seas》

《山海经》 is a compilation of mythic geography and beasts and was believed to have been written during the Warring States period (475–221 BC) of China's history, although the authorship is contested and the current version was probably revised and edited in the Han Dynasty. Fangs of Fortune derives much of its lore from this book, including the physical descriptions of creatures and the battle between Ying Long and Bing Yi and the relationship between characters like Li Lun and Ying Zhao.

The illustrations used in this gifset are a more modern rendition by the artists 杉澤 and 李堃 (who drew Bing Yi).

i’ve always felt a bit disconnected from other women, and i think it’s partially due to my autism. growing up, i was comforted by “ugly” animals like blobfish and axolotls, and i know many other neurodivergent folks felt the same way. i hope these terms bring comfort to those who need it <3

Uhh, something, something, Jack gets ectocontaminated not enough to cause harm, but he does feel slightly different from normal people, and suddenly the ghost kid has taken an interest in him. After looking at Jack’s ectoplasmic levels and what they estimate Phantom to be, Maddie realizes that Phantom may be interested in him because of his ectoplasmic levels and possibly thinks that Jack is a ghost. They decide to run a series of tests that involve Jack approaching or calling out for Phantom.

The results have led them to believe that Phantom doesn’t just see Jack as a ghost, but a young one, and he is attempting to be Jack’s guide to How To Be A Ghost. His little lessons include “Stay away from ghost hunters, the G.I.W. are the worst”, “Don’t eat the blood blossoms”, and he has tried to teach Jack how to fly and defend himself, but Jack is unable to use any powers, which confuses the ghost boy greatly. He was overheard mumbling something about “possible core deficiencies” and that Jack’s nonexistent core is growing slowly. Almost dangerously slow.

In the most recent tests, Phantom has been trying to give Jack food from the ghost zone and convince him to come with him to see one of his friends, who is supposedly a doctor ghost called Frostbite, to make sure his core is developing as it should be.
