Five Nights at Freddy's Re-imagined
DISCLAIMER
This wasn't made to "make a better fnaf" or that the original was bad. The original games will always hold a very special place in my heart, and I really appreciate Scott and the characters and world he's created for us.
That being said, I never liked the Fnaf lore when it started to get more sci-fi than horror. I don't like the confusing tineline and overall, a lot of stuff just feels unnecessary to me. So, I've made this AU to be a re-write on how I see Fnaf. The lore is simple, there is no such thing as remnant, or anything like that, at least not at this point of the writing process (but don't get your hopes up)
The storyline and lore for this au are bound to go through multiple different changes, possibly with different releases of future movies, or if there's certain things I missed that I want to add. This whole thing is still really new, and it's definitely going to get changed quite a bit as it goes on.
Now without further a-do, let's get into the details.
Timeline: Fnaf 4, Fnaf 1, Fnaf 2, Fnaf 3 (SL time placement still being decided)
Schmidt Family (taking the role of the Emily's)
Mike Schmidt (oldest sibling)
Abby Schmidt (youngest sibling)
Garrett Schmidt(middle sibling, posseses the Puppet)
Mama Schmidt(unnamed for now, deceased)
Henry Schmidt (deceased)
Afton Family
William Afton(deceased???)
Mama Afton (unamed, divorced after the bite)
Vanessa Afton (oldest sibling)
Crying child/Cass (second youngest sibling, deceased, posesses GF)
Micheal Afton (middle sibling, lives with mom after the bite (which he caused), cut contact with the rest of the family after. Named after Henry's son, Mike, by William. Hinting at possible jealousy)
Elizabeth Afton (Youngest sibling, Williams step daughter from his second marriage before her biological mother died)
Storyline (for now)
In the early 80's, William and Henry think of the idea for a Pizzeria chain. Henry's family knows little to nothing about it, as Henry wants it to be a surprise for his son, Mike. While the idea is in pre-production, Garrett is born and it is at this point Henry is started to reconsider the idea. To spend more time with his family, he decides to quit and leave it to William. William dislikes this, a LOT. He never was right in the head, and this was the thing that pushed him over the edge, and he tracks down, kidnaps and kills Garrett. The Pizzeria opens in '85, debuting the newest animatronics known as Fredbear and Spring-Bonnie. Only after two years a terrible accident occurs and it involves Aftons kids. Micheal Afton accidentally harms his brother, causing the infamous bite of '87. After said incident, William didnt want his Pizzeria to associated with said accident, and has the two animatronics replaced almost immediately after to give the place a brand new label and brand. Cass (who I'll refer to with that name until any other name is confirmed) is fatally injured, and has hallucinations, resulting in fnaf 4. Cass succumbs to his injuries and dies around a week later. He posseses the Fredbear Animatronic.Despite the death of his youngest child, William is instead rather fascinated with how a machine he created for entertainment could do so much damage, and then proceeds to think of the many capabilities of his robots. This leads to him creating multiple animatronics, which just end up collecting dust in a back room, but end up helping him with figuring out what he can add to the main 4 he uses now.Later on for unknown/possible self indulgent reasons, he kills 4 kids, ranging from 8-12 years old, with the help of his daughter Vanessa to cover his tracks. He hides the bodies of each child in one of his animatronics until he can take them out to properly dispose of them. He eventually forgets though, and this is when the complaints for the animatronics movements and smell start coming, and the children now possess the animatronics.
This is when fnaf 1 will take place, which is around the late 80s-early 90s. It is a mixture of fnaf 1 game plot, and the fnaf movie. Mike gets a shift as the night guard while the pizzeria is still open, but it's starting to go downhill at this point, and is on the verge of closing its doors soon. The plot with Mike and his family stays somewhat the same as the movie, with slight changes to fit with the plot of the game. William is springlocked, the pizzeria is destroyed and the authorities decide this is the time to lock the place up and bulldoze it.
Before it can be fully destroyed, some investors feeling nostalgic decide to re-open Freddy Fabears pizza with brand new and shiny animatronics. The whole place is fixed, remodeled and given a shiny new coat of paint and neon, around the early to mid 90s. The main 4, Springtrap, and a few of the empty suits that survived are put in a new backroom for parts. When the main 4 aren't fitting to well with the new setting, they are scrapped for their good parts and left in the back, and are then replaced with the Toy animatronics. We follow Jeremy Fitzgerald as he works his night shift and encounters the many animatronics. When he goes home at night he sees things in his sleep, which are more realistic/ non-8bit reenactments of the secret minigames. These are from Garrett trying to warn him. Later on Jeremy is trying to stop Mike and Vanessa from getting the place shut down. They try to explain to him why, and that if it doesn't shut down soon, people are going to get hurt or worse. It eventually all goes to hell when a certain old friend of ours finds a way out of the backrooms and kills an employee, and messes with the new animatronics, causing them to become extremely aggressive with guests. Luckily, they manage to shut the place down, and William is locked up once again.
I'm still trying to figure out what could be happening with Fnaf 3, but I'll try my best here. The Pizzeria is reopened in mid to late 90s, almost the 2000s. This time as a walk-in attraction/haunted house. It doesn't need much remodeling to make it have the haunted/ run down look, so very few changes are added to the pizzeria. Abby is getting visited by Garrett/Puppet, saying he needs her help to free her friends and him. She later on she encounters Micheal Afton who works at a gas station that is on the way to her walk from school. It is later revealed that he has also been visited by his brother, Cass/GF. Unlike Abby though, he is to afraid to go back to the pizzeria because that day still haunts him. Abby tells Vanessa and Vanessa decides to help her. Van works as the nightguard, and sneaks Abby in every night. Abby helps the kids similar to how you help them in the third game ( the minigames) and it is later revealed that William still isn't dead and is hunting down Abby. Abby is hurt and is sent to the hospital, which makes Mike very upset with Van. She tells him what's going on and they decide its time to finish this. They try to burn down the pizzeria, but have to fight William to do so. No matter how hard they try he seems unstoppable. Micheal shows up and tells them to get out, and that he'll give up his life to keep his dad inside and burn the place down. Once the match is lit, Mike gets to see Garrett one last time and Van sees Cass, and he and Van escape as the Pizzeria is then engulfed in flames.Micheal and William are both presumed dead. Micheal finally gets the closure with his little brother, and he and all the souls (minus William, hes going to a less better place) are freed for good.
Thats all for now! Once again, the stories are probably gonna get updated a lot while I figure some more stuff out. I'll definitely doodle up some designs! Maybe...
I also should probably mention that this is techbically an AU, so characters designs will be a little different. They'll also have my own headcanons with them.
If you guys have any ideas on characters, or storylines or anything, please let me know!

Thoughts While Watching Gilmore Girls-Season 2, Episode 12, Part 1 ("Richard In Stars Hollow")
Tumblr media
You can read all of my previous commentary here. First 10 Minutes Summary : Emily needles Lorelai about her love life some more. A long comedic exchange occurs between Lorelai, Rory and Emily about the family burial plot. Emily and Richard discuss Richard's boring & repetitive retired life. Paris being Paris wants the staff of The Franklin to win a presitgious award given to school newspapers by any means necessary.
Richard is bored and realizes Emily actually had a pretty vibrant daily life while he used to be at work all day, and now with nothing to do he's getting in her hair and becoming a real pain in the ass M-A-N. Desperate to get him out of her hair, she ever so gently suggests he spend some time at the country club.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wait wait wait. Stars Hollow video is really renting Grand Theft Auto? The violent-est video game to ever violent at that point? (all for the low price of 99 cents, Tuesdays and Thursdays only). Besides the graphic subject matter of the game, like cable TV and internet, I'm not entirely convinced that video games are even a concept in Stars Hollow. Go on, just ask someone on the streets of Stars Hollow if they know what a Playstation is. The citizens seem to be highly aware of modern music, but mainly watch TV shows and movies from the 1950's. I sound like an antrophologist observing some lost tribe that has no contact with the outside world.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can easily read the titles on many of these movies. What are we renting today, guys? I hope you remembered to bring your Stars Hollow Video Membership Card (unlike Lorelai). This scene, man. Video stores! VHS! 99 cent rentals! Video store membership cards! Flip phones! Lorelai going outside because "the reception sucks in here". I'm positively dizzy. Just like the concession stand, the strip/mud wrestling club and the arcade (which are all places that are only seen once AFAIK) I am fairly certain this video store is never seen or mentioned again after this episode... So basically any kind of fun business that sets up in town is doomed to failure. Enjoy your diner and your movie theater that is actually just a projection screen inside a book store, citizens. In the United States, 1 in 5 small businesses fail in the first year.
Tumblr media
Kirk Job: Dirty Movie Peddler. Rory: Hey Kirk, I saw a couple of little kids over there looking at this tape that was kind of mature. You might want to put that stuff on a higher shelf. There's a half naked lady on the cover.
Tumblr media
(the movie was Showgirls, by the way). Meanwhile, Emily is desperate to get rid of Richard and punishes him in the most extreme way possible. She unloads him on Lorelai and sends him to Stars Hollow. That monster. Lorelai: OMG. The most horrible thing just happened. Headmaster Charleston's been kidnapped! Two guys broke into his house, stuffed him into a Hefty bag, used those twisty ties and carted him off! When I tell you this is the exact fate I've always envisioned for Taylor Doose on my gritty R-rated Gilmore Girls reboot titled The Hollow. No really, go back to some of my old reviews and I have said this. Usually the sack gets tossed off the Bridge into the lake, a worthy fate for Mr. Doose. Some fun things I observed in the Gilmore Kitchen:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rory's coffee cup is a pig in a bowtie and boxer shorts. . A killer Crock Pot. (my sincerest apologies to Milo Ventimiglia for not saying "SLOW COOKER", he's going to pop out of the bushes somewhere and correct me). That lady that was on every greeting card in the 90's (I think her name was Maxine). And those Pop Tarts, oh those Pop Tarts. Did I research them? Yes I absolutely fucking did. Turns out they aren't actually from the Pop Tarts brand. Lorelai was buying a cheap imitation. They were called "Kool Stuf", a short lived knockoff from Nabisco that were sold from 1999-2001.
To be honest I'm not sure why Lorelai is having an aboslute freaking meltdown about spending one day alone with Richard, her own father. I think she thinks it's going to be more awkward than anything and they won't have enough to talk about.
Tumblr media
Okay, I was right. But seriously, having to make conversation with her own father is the only time Lorelai ever shuts up and can't think of anything to say? Really?
Tumblr media
I was observing how gleeful Richard looked while walking into the diner and figured it was one of those "rich people are entertained by the lower class and he's never been in a diner before" type deals, but he then mentions a diner he used to visit in college. So I think it's pretty wholesome and sweet that he looks so happy to visit a place simply because Lorelai likes it. I like Richard. (usually), although he's a total pill in this episode and his mansplaining kinda makes me want to stuff him in that sack with Taylor Doose.
Lorelai: I thought you might like to walk around town and see The Sights. Well, you already visited the diner, so that's one Sight. Seeing the rest of the town will kill all of about 10 minutes. Good plan, Lorelai.
Tumblr media
I hope she never stops.
Tumblr media
Okay but that's just my exact pitch for my gritty R-rated Giilmore Girls reboot titled The Hollow.
Tumblr media
I am firmly convinced they do. Paris: The worst that could happen is that I spend some time in your town and enter a pie in your county fair. Oh yes, I'm sure Rory would just HATE it if Paris had to spend time in her town with her. Paris I'm sure you'd love to enter your pie in her county fair, wouldn't you. This episode has everything. Paris and Rory sexual tension, Jess and Paris meeting for the first of only two times, Richard getting pissed off at Dean later. Richard walks in to the inn while Lorelai is working. L: I thought you were touring the town. What are you doing here? R: I visited all the stores. The cat one, twice. Then I walked around and I was done. Told ya. L: Did you see the park? Or the giant slinky? R: Yes I saw the park and the giant slinky, and the 100 year old oak tree, and the giant life sized Yarn Person. Giant Slinky? Giant Yarn Person? Where's the town getting money for this stuff? Paris' first order of business should be to investigate Taylor Doose and whether he's stealing the money he's always raising for The Bridge (he is). I also don't remember any sort of real park being seen or mentioned before. Paris (after taking the bus home with Rory): I think I have rabies. Burn my clothes. Emily in another episode: Only drug dealers ride the bus.
Tumblr media
City Boy frowns upon all this bus slander.
Tumblr media
Wasn't there suddenly a bar in season 7 or was that just some fever dream? Season 7 in general is just a fever dream to me. Lorelai gets drunk and sings "I Will Always Love You" to Luke, right? How did THAT place ever get the proper permits and permission to exist from Taylor Doose? I know it's like 5 years away but, investigate that, Paris. We were robbed of so many things incuding a Jess + Paris friendship. Oh, the literary & other intellectual debates we could have enjoyed! (on the flip side, a Paris + Jess romantic relationship would be so disastrous. Luckily for them it would also only last like forty minutes before they tried to kill each other and end it). Anyway I like to imagine all angles of every nook & cranny of this show and I enjoy imagining that carnage.
Tumblr media
Crystal clear Tomatos sign spotting. Paris ever so subtly proceeds to ask Luke if his diner sees a lot of truckers looking to pick up prostitutes.
"It's pretty common knowledge that diners are breeding grounds for prostitution and drug dealers." Like the drug dealing gigolo who lives above the diner? Speak of the devil.
Tumblr media
*clutches this minute-long interaction tightly to my chest* I won't ever let go...
Tumblr media
Well, it is where he likes to stuff girls in a closet.
Tumblr media
Hair...that beautiful hair...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So brief. Sigh. Luke and Jess are the best. Back to the Inn where Richard continues to be a pain in the ass Man and meddle in Lorelai's work, telling her how to run her business and pushing Lorelai perilously close to sack-stuffing territory. And in other meddling news, Rory's little snitcheroo about inappopriate movies has backfired on her. Rory and Paris enter the video store to find it nearly empty, as all of the inappropriate movies have been moved behind the Rory Curtain.
Tumblr media
In Rory's defense, she did specifically tell Kirk to put the videos "on a higher shelf" and she probably expected Kirk to take her literally like he does every single time in history except for now. But she still should have minded her bizzness. Taylor: All the movies that we (him and Kirk?) deem objectionable will be hidden behind this curtain safely hidden from the eyes of children. Why is Taylor involved in this too? He doesn't work there? Can we skip to the sack-stuffing now? This would all be funnier if this sort of "shield the children" censorship wasn't still happening over 20 years later. Paris realizes The Rory Curtain is a great scoop for the paper, asks Taylor "How long have you been working here?" Good question... Lorelai brings Richard home, minutes away from tossing him into oncoming traffic so Rory tries to give her mother some peace and quiet and offers Richard a tour of her room where we get acquainted with her book stash.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dang, girl! I'm kind of speechless...
Richard, for as much of a Buttinsky as he has been so far in this episode, gives Lorelai extremely sensible, real-world advice that it would benefit Rory to consider another school besides Harvard. Every time Lorelai hears this perfectly reasonable advice from her parents she loses her mind. Harvard's acceptance rate in 2003 was 11.3%. Thanks again, Googs. Lorelai thinks she can wave her "But she wants to go to Harvard" wand around and that'll magically get her accepted with no backup school or plan in place. I'll save further discussion of "Lorelai jeopardizing Rory's future just to spite her parents" for another episode that's coming up somewhere over the horizon, and because it literally just happened in the previous episode (in that case their fucking house was on the line due to Lorelai's stubborness), god I'm fucking tired.
Tumblr media
What is it Rory?! Is it Ed McMahon standing outside with a giant Publisher's Clearinghouse check?
Tumblr media
Oh. it's just Butthead. Part 2 coming soon.

An Angel
Miles Miller x reader
a/n: yo so, my friend and I watch “Bad times at the el royale” together and it was really good! I love the movie! Anyway I was disappointed to see there isn’t really anything written for Miles under his hashtags. But some of the newer post have like 90- 300 likes so I don’t think the hashtag is dead. I really wanted to read something for him but quickly ran out of fics. So I decided to write what I would want to read for his character. It’s been bugging me all day so I’m finally writing it! Enjoy! 💕
No smut on this but if anyone wanted a part 2 that is just smut I can do that.
minors DNI
TW: blood, cult shenanigans, violence, Miles poor tortured soul, this is as dark as the movie, 1960’s shitty culture, oh and also cursing
Tumblr media
When Y/N first pulled up to The El Royale, she never expected to be in this situation.
Sure when she first got here she felt uneasy, but it was the only hotel for 10 miles and she was getting to sleepy to be behind the wheel.
But instead of sleeping in her California room, she was walking to the main lobby with a gun held to her skull.
A hippie and man and woman had broke open her door and held a gun to her chest. She really had no choice to follow them.
At first she thought this was a robbery, she wasn’t gonna risk her life for her purse so she followed along where they were yelling for her to go. But as she walked into the lobby and saw a gambling table with the other guests and the front desk clerk tied to chairs while a man with an open shirt taunted them, she knew it was more than that.
The man turned around with a wicked grin. “Howdy,” he turned back to his hostages “look here we found us a new player!” He smiled. “Boots why don’t you tie her up and she can sit where Emily was hmm.” He shouted to the California side of the room.
A teenage girl that couldn’t have been more than 15, wearing red boots, came out from behind the jukebox and pulled a chair over.
Y/N was shoved in the detection of the table and to the open chair. As she hung her head low, in fear of meeting the mans gaze, she gasped in horror when she saw Emily’s dead body.
Emily barley introduced herself to Y/N, when she had laughed at the “Fuck You” on the Ledger.
“Sit” the man behind her said as she reached the chair.
Y/N complied and felt ropes wrap around her waist and hands.
“Oh, how rude of me!” The leader, she assumes, speaks again. “I haven’t introduced myself yet. Terrible edict I know.” He smiled as he leaned down to Y/N’s level. “I’m Billy Lee. I’m assuming you must the the Miss. Y/L/N right?”
“Yes sir.” She replied shortly, fighting back tears. She had never been this frighten in her life.
Y/N heard a whimper next to her, she snapped her head to the side, looking at the other guest.
The clerk’s, Miles, face was bleed and one side, with what appears to be tiny bullet holes. He had a cloth tied to around his mouth to keep him from talking but his sobs were very audible.
The women, Darlene, was missing her wig and Father Flynn had a cut on the top of his head, not nearly as bad as Miles though.
Billy Lee snapped his head “Kid if you don’t stop I’m gonna make you play again.” Miles immediately shut up and glanced at Y/N.
Billy Lee turned back to Y/N before a wide grin grew across his face. “So Y/N, tell me” He leaned closer “why are you here? How are you mixed up in this?”
“I’m not mixed up in anything! I don’t know what going on.” Y/N practically sobbed. She had never seen a dead person before but now she’s sitting right next to one.
Billy Lee didn’t seem to believe her. “You really think that theirs nothing suspicious about you being all friendly with Emily.” He narrowed his eyes. “Did you help Emily try to steal what’s mine?”
“what?” Y/N asked unsure of what he meant.
“Did you help Emily take Boots from me?” He asked getting angrier as his grip on his gun got tighter.
“No. No I didn’t” Y/N cried.
Billy Lee cocked his gun and held it to her face. “ I don’t believe you”
Y/N started shaking in her chair and she sobbed. “ I didn’t! I didn’t! Please! I didn’t! I just met Emily! I didn’t do anything!” She screamed as she cried leaning away from the gun.
She already felt dead. She felt like there was no other option. She was a deadman.
She begged for her life for 30 more seconds before Billy Lee smirked and turned his head to Miles.
“Well, Captain pervert? Did she seem to know Emily? Did you see her talking to her through the mirrors?” He asked.
Miles violently shakes his head no.
Father Flynn spoke up. “She wasn’t involved with the money either. She’s just in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
“Is that true?” Billy Lee asked with a fake pout.
“yes! Yes! It’s true!” Y/N sobbed.
Billy Lee lowered the gun and smile at her before punching her right across the face.
“ Tell the truth!” He roared in her face making her cry more.
She could feel the blood dripping down her nose and lips. She tried but she couldn’t get the words out. She sobbed until he punched her again, knocking her out cold.
————————-
When she woke up she was laying on the ground still tied to her chair.
She looked around as her vision came back to her. She saw fire and broken glass. The table had been flipped and gunshots were going off.
She squeezed her eyes closed trying to think of something happy but nothing came to mind.
All of a sudden there was the screaming of the teenage girl, and more gunshots.
Y/N felt hands on her and opened her eyes dreading the worst but was met will the eyes of Father Flynn.
He cut the ropes around her wrist and waist and moved on to help Darlene.
Miles walked back to the group with the rifle in his hand. As he walked towards the little girl.
She watched as his face changed from stone to immediate regret. He put his hands on her shoulders and repeated how sorry he was.
Father Flynn, who she was beginning to think wasn’t really a priest, grabbed the gun and followed behind him quietly.
The little girl turned around and tried to shove a knife in Miles stomach but Father Flynn shot her before she could pierce his skin.
Darlene shouted for them to get out as the building was starting to come down.
Miles grabbed Y/No’s arm and pulled her with him through the door and out to the parking lot.
Y/N was dragged through the parking lot into a car. Father Flynn and Darlene took the front seat while Miles shoved her into the back with him. He helped her click on her seatbelt and quickly did his with shaky hands.
As Flynn sped away from the hotel, everyone kept their eyes ahead of them, afraid of what they had just witnessed.

Gridball Jerseys and Cigarettes, Chapter 2
Hey guys, and welcome to the second chapter of my Sebastian x Alex fic! So glad you're here reading it! The chapter list is below, so you can read from the beginning if you're just joining!
Ch. 1
Summary: Alex has had a crush on Sebastian ever since they were kids. Their friendship fell apart, but Alex is determined to fix it. Will their relationship work? Or is it doomed to fail due to Alex's Grandfather's strict views?
Word count: 2,423 words
Warnings: cigarette use, alcohol consumption
Chapter Rating: T for Teen
"What are those?" Alex asked, as his blue-haired friend skidded to a halt in front of him. She had quite literally run over to him with what looked like pieces of paper in her hand. He tossed his gridball in the air a few times while he waited for a reply.
"Tickets!" Emily said with a toothy grin. "To see Goblin Destroyer!"
"Who?" Alex asked, face scrunching in concentration. "Oh! Sebastian's band!"
Emily rolled her eyes. "I can't believe you forgot their name," she said and thrust one of the tickets at him. Alex took it and stared.
"We've never had to have tickets before," he said, looking at Emily quizzically. Goblin Destroyer had played plenty of times down on the beach. Gus would serve drinks, and everyone would gather around and listen to them play. It was always a guaranteed good time.
"That's because they only played in Pelican Town. But this time, they landed a gig in Zuzu City!" Emily clapped her hands in excitement.
"In Zuzu City?" Alex gasped, eyes wide. "That's a big deal!"
"Sure is!" Emily said. "So you're going, right? I bought that ticket for you."
Alex bit his lip. It would be great to see Sebastian play. They hadn't crossed paths since the smoke blowing incident (Emily said it was called "shotgunning") and Alex was having a difficult time trying to figure out how to casually meet up with him.
Maybe they could meet up after the concert. He could compliment Sebastian on his playing. That could lead to an actual conversation, right?
"I dunno…I'll have to ask my grandparents…" Alex said nervously.
"It was $90," Emily said, "Per ticket. Non-refundable."
"Oh hey, grandma? Grandpa?" Alex said, putting his hand to his ear like a phone. "You're suddenly okay with me going to the city late at night with no supervision? Amazing! Can't believe it! Good news Emily," he said, putting his hand down, "I can go."
Emily clapped her hands together excitedly. "This is gonna be so much fun! And don't worry about your grandparents, okay? Haley and I came up with a special plan."
Alex frowned. These two sisters were downright dangerous when they put their heads together to come up with a plan. Mischief wasn't something Haley was usually up for, but when Emily planted an idea in her head, things could get intense.
"It's nothing bad!" Emily said quickly.
"That's what you said when you allowed Léo to modify the Mayor's boxers with your sewing machine!"
"Lucky purple shorts," Emily amended. "And they turned out lovely. That gold trim made them look so fancy!"
"Yeah, but Mayor Lewis was furious!" Alex retorted.
"Well, I'm sure he'll get over it when he has a special guest over who gets to admire them," Emily said, wiggling her eyebrows suggestively.
"I hate that you just made me think of the Mayor doing the do with–"
"Did you really just say "doing the do" instead of saying sex?" Emily said with a snort. "Are you twelve?"
"Look, we're way off track!" Alex said, flustered. "Whatever plan you and Haley have cooked up is probably crazy!"
"It isn't though!" Emily insisted. "Haley told you about our parents deciding to ditch us again for Winter Star, right?"
"If by "tell me" you mean slamming my bedroom door open, flopping onto my bed, and screaming into my pillow without stopping for a full 60 seconds…then yes, she told me," Alex said. It had been a very strange experience, but Alex had done his best to comfort her.
"Yeah, she was pretty pissed when they backed out and decided not to come to Pelican Town. So they sent us some "Sorry we're shit parents" gifts. I got a serger, and Haley got a vintage Polaroid camera!" Emily said. Alex waited patiently for her to continue. He wasn't sure where she was going with this.
"So we thought that you could tell your grandparents that you want to get Haley a super special gift for Winter Star! We'll just say it took a while to find the perfect gift. And when they ask to see what you got…you'll show them the Polaroid camera! Nobody in town knows she has it yet!" Emily looked rather pleased with herself, and honestly, Alex thought the plan was a pretty good one.
"Alright," Alex said. "That should work."
“It will work,” Emily said firmly. “Just…make sure to keep the fact that you’re going to the concert on the down low, yeah?”
“Right,” Alex said with a nod. He wouldn’t want someone to accidentally let slip that he was going to a concert. His grandparents meant well, but they were a bit overprotective. Scratch that, very overprotective. He was 23 years old, and they still treated him like he was 16. It was infuriating. Going to the city shouldn’t be an issue. And while they technically couldn’t stop him from going out, his grandfather had locked him out of the house one night when he stayed at the spa until 10 pm.
The day before the concert arrived, and Haley had insisted that instead of meeting by the bus stop, he should meet at her and Emily's house.
"I need to approve your outfit," she had said, looking dead serious. "I can't have you embarrassing Pelican Town by wearing something ridiculous."
So Alex found himself walking into their home, door unlocked as always when Haley knew Alex would be coming over.
"I'm here!" Alex called out.
"Alex!" Haley said happily, emerging from her bedroom. She stopped short and stared at him.
"What?" Alex said nervously.
"What in gay hell," Haley murmured, eyes flicking over him from top to bottom. "You can't wear that."
"What's wrong with my outfit?" Alex asked defensively.
"You absolutely cannot wear a gridball jersey and loose fitting jeans to a rock concert!" Haley said, exasperated. "Emily! Get over here right now!"
Emily walked out of the bathroom and Alex gulped. Okay, maybe he wasn't dressed appropriately. Emily was wearing a tight black tanktop with the words "Hell's Belles" on it. Her tight black jeans had a studded belt through the loops, and her Doc Martens looked fantastic.
"Oh fuck no," Emily said, and Alex crossed his arms, letting out a huff of annoyance.
"I can't change now!" Alex said. "I'll have to just go in this."
"Nope, no, no you won't," Emily said. "Let me grab you something."
Alex laughed. "You're a twig!" he said. "How the hell will I fit into your clothes?"
Emily ignored him, and brought out a pair of skinny jeans that definitely weren't hers, a white shirt, and a leather jacket.
"The jacket and jeans are left over from a fitting I did with Shane," she said. "Though he ended up in something uh…well anyway. The shirt is mine. It's like a dress on me, but it should fit you."
It was tight. No matter how baggy Emily had claimed it was, it left nothing to the imagination when it came to his chest and abs.
"These jeans," he grumbled, coming out of the bathroom, "have almost no space in the crotch! I hate them!"
"Suck it up, you look great!" Haley said.
"Yes, that's more like it," Emily said approvingly. "Now let's go!"
They raced to the bus stop quickly, hoping that nobody would catch sight of them and rat Alex out. They made it without incident, exhaling in relief when they saw Pam wasn't driving the bus tonight. She wasn't one to tell on anyone, but still. She sometimes had loose lips when she got drunk at the Saloon.
Alex bought the bus tickets, determined to pay for everything. Emily had spent quite a lot of cash on the concert tickets after all. He had tried to pay her back for them, but she refused, saying that if he bought her drinks and food at the concert, she’d consider it repaid.
“Are you sure I look okay?” Alex had said, glancing at Emily as they sat down.
“Have you seen the looks you’re getting?” Emily said with a grin. “Everyone on this bus is checking you out. You look fantastic!”
Alex nodded. He had noticed people looking at him, but was still concerned. He was planning on trying to meet with Sebastian backstage, and he was worried he looked ridiculous.
“Well…okay,” Alex said. The bus ride was a long one, and Alex was relieved when he finally got to get off the bus. He stretched, and then he and Emily made their way to the venue.
They were playing in a large park-like area. Apparently, it was a large space owned by the brewery nearby. This brewery would be providing the food and drink for the concert, and Emily was thrilled at the idea that the beer wouldn’t taste terrible.
“It always tastes like someone pissed in my drink,” she said.
“Maybe they did,” Alex teased, and Emily made a face.
The beer was excellent, and they even managed to score some decent snacks before finding a spot to sit. They had come early enough to where they’d be able to sit nearby the stage. Alex wondered if Sebastian would see him from the stage, but guessed that his friend wouldn’t actually be looking into the audience.
When the opening act came on stage, Emily’s shirt suddenly made a lot more sense. The band was an AC/DC cover band that was made up of all women. They were called “Hells Belles” and apparently Emily was a huge fan.
“They’re amazing, you’ll see!” she said in excitement.
Emily was right, they were amazing. They played each song perfectly, and somehow managed to make them sound better than the originals! Alex clapped and whooped after they finished, and was slightly disappointed to see them go. But those feelings immediately evaporated when Goblin Destroyer came on stage.
Emily giggled at the look on Alex’s face when Sebastian walked out. There was no other way to say it, he looked sexy.
Sebastian was known for his baggy hoodies, but right now? He was wearing practically the opposite, if that was a thing. His shirt was ripped and tight, showing off his well defined arms and…collar bone piercings? Alex didn’t even know that was a thing, but he was so glad it was.
He gulped as he spotted hip piercings, shown off by his low slung skinny jeans. Since when did Sebastian have all these piercings? He knew about the lip, ears, and eyebrow piercings, but the rest? Alex swallowed thickly. Sebastian typically didn’t put his lip and eyebrow jewelry in, but he was wearing it tonight. God, Alex wished he wore them every day. He looked amazing.
“Put your eyes back into your head, you completely missed everything Sam just said!” Emily hissed.
“Oh,” Alex said sheepishly, realizing that she was right. He hadn’t even registered that Sam was speaking at all.
When they began to play, a wide grin split Alex’s face in two. He knew he enjoyed their music, but it was much tamer in Pelican town. But the songs they were playing now were far more intense. The music was louder, and they played like they meant it, none of them worried about how they would be perceived.
And the lyrics were very different. Swear words and sexual innuendos were in practically every song. Jas and Vincent often attended the Pelican Town concerts, so they never played songs like this. Alex was loving it, and really getting into the music. Emily was as well, and they both found themselves dancing and shouting.
Alex noticed Emily dancing with a few people, but he wasn’t sure how to feel when he was approached. Usually, he would be all for it, but he felt weird, dancing with someone when he was here to see the guy he was interested in playing.
Intermission finally came, and Alex found himself being forcefully dragged to the stage by Emily. He let himself be pulled, but was confused by what she was doing. She had given no explanation, simply grabbing his wrist and running.
“ABIGAIL!” Emily screamed out as the band was making their way offstage. Abigail was the drummer, and stopped when she heard her name. She looked very surprised at someone knowing her by name, and looked into the audience. Surprise was written all over her face when she saw Emily and Alex standing there.
“Holy shit!” Abigail said, looking very happy. “Come over here! Sam and Seb will definitely want to see you guys! Hell, I’m excited to see you guys!”
Alex didn’t think twice about following the two chattering girls backstage, but was suddenly overcome with a wave of fear when he realized exactly what was about to go down. He was about to see his crush, who looked sexy as hell, and was supposed to act natural? Alex didn’t even manage to act natural with his first attempt at conversation with Sebastian, how was he supposed to do so now?
“Hey guys!” Abigail shouted out, “Look who’s here!”
Sam and Sebastian looked over from where they were standing. Since the backstage area was outside, Sebastian had a cigarette, and had just taken a long drag from it before looking over. His eyebrows shot up, looking just as surprised as Abigail had.
Sebastian looked even better close up, and Alex found himself unable to take his eyes off of the man before him. Words died in his throat as Emily began to speak to them. How long was too long to look at someone for? Alex forgot.
“Nice to see you Alex,” Sebastian said in his raspy voice. He gave Alex a small smile, before looking at Emily. “You too, Em,” he said. “Can’t believe you guys are here.”
“You guys should totally have some drinks with us after the show!” Sam said excitedly. “We were just going to celebrate our first totally legit gig with some tequila shots, but just with us three. It’ll be way more fun if you guys join in!”
Emily expressed her interest straight away, but Alex was more hesitant. His eyes flicked to Sebastian, who was looking at him. It was hard to tell what the expression was on his face. That man was hard to read.
“You’re gonna join us, right?” Sebastian finally said.
“Of course!” Alex said, caving. How could he say no to such a pretty face?
Sebastian smiled once more, and Alex practically melted. Okay, he had to go now. And he found himself pretty excited about it.

A Screen, A Dog, and a Bed
 Let's talk about pain.
Young people tend to be reckless because they haven't experienced real pain. There was a time when, one a scale of one to ten, I would have rated my chronic back pain as a nine, but I'm old(er) now. Chronic back pain is a four. A pulled back muscle is a nine, as is a migraine. A kidney stone is a fourteen out of ten.
I've talked to people who suffered through both a kidney stone and childbirth (not at the same time--wow), and it appears childbirth is a fifteen out of ten.
And there you have it: Older people need a whole new rating system.
When you get old(er), you realize why older people didn't want to do stuff back when you were a kid. You could find out the same thing by just listening to their conversations:
"My knee says it's going to rain."
"Really? I can't feel my knee because of the lumbago."
"Oh, I haven't been able to lumbago since I was twenty."
"That's limbogo, moron."
Tumblr media
Enjoy it while you can, kids.
(By the way, I Googled "lumbago" to make sure I got it right, and found out ... I got it.)
I told you all this to explain how I injured my neck by--wait for it--turning.
I once fell all the way down a set of stairs inside a house that was on fire, and all I got was a skinned knee. The next day I danced the lumbago.
We got a new radio system at work, and because I wasn't familiar with it I turned my head a lot more than usual to make sure of what I was doing. There are seven screens at my dispatch console. You have to be an owl to see everything.
Tumblr media
"As long as I pay, my chiropractor doesn't give a hoot."
Neck pain level, after ibuprofen: maybe six, as long as I didn't actually turn my head. But I'd forget--and turn my head.
The neck pain caused head pain, and I was down for about a day. The day after, my wife and I decided to move furniture. This was a coincidence, but also related to pain: The dog's.
Beowulf is around fifteen years old, which in human years is something like 90. So he has trouble getting up and down stairs, but when that's where we are, that's where he'll be. The obvious solution: Move our bedroom downstairs, to where our office used to be. Let's face it, I do most of my writing work on the couch, while icing down various body parts.
My bed hasn't been moved in fifteen years. Why? Because, although we now use air mattresses, the frame is designed for a California King waterbed. Picture something the size of an aircraft carrier, strong enough to hold the contents of Lake Michigan.
It took two hours just to take it apart. Then we had to make multiple trips carrying pieces up and down  those narrow 1879 stairs with the sharp turn at the bottom, and now I know why the dog kept wiping out.
But we did it, and I once again got to dance the lumbago. When it comes to pain, how high can you go? Also, I can now tell you exactly what muscles are needed to haul something up and down stairways. The first day the pain level was about nine, but only when I moved, and as I write this it's down to a much more manageable seven. Ice is my friend.
And that's why none of you have seen me all week. Or Emily. Or Beowulf, who managed to slip by my makeshift barrier and come upstairs to see why we were cursing and throwing things during deconstruction. The next day Emily worked on one of our book projects, while I worked on a different one, and you know what they had in common?
They could be done without moving.
The lesson? I dunno. Buy our books, so we can hire movers? Meanwhile, if you see an older person who isn't moving very fast, cut them a break: You don't know if their day involved a screen, a dog, or a bed.

@foxbelieve
Semira had made sure to inform everyone that there would be a human acting as her servant, in exchange for studying them for his personal research. Emily was one who was excited to meet their new guest, and did so almost immediately upon arrival. Semira had been introducing Mulder to a vast number of vampires, all wearing blacks or greys and very formal attire, or attire for combat. Though Emily was training to be a death dealer, training wasn’t in session right now, so she wore her casual clothing. Which was very bright and colorful, so she stood out immediately when she rushed up to Semira and Mulder.
“Hey! You’re the human? Semira, you were gonna introduce him to me, right?” she asked with a grin.
Semira raised a brow at her young student. “Eventually, I suppose.”
“Hi, my name’s Emily, what’s yours?”

Some Miscellaneous FNAF + Don Bluth “Project” Headcanons (Part 1?)
Because this idea has been bouncing around in my noggin, here’s my attempt at thinking like a writer in the 90’s. Keep in mind, this is just me spitballing the ideas that have been swirling in my noggin for days now.
*If Don Bluth is anything to go by, fantastical stuff is a must. Sure, Sci-Fi’s a genre that’s been done in that style. But, if some of the lineup’s anything to go by, then it might lean more into the ‘90s Fantasy genre.
*So, I’m thinking like Narnia but with teleport machines that William and Henry built. Like, you slip into some hidden corner of on of their houses and it’s there. This… mirror-looking portal.
*Henry originally made this with the intention to play out potential Fredbear and Friends scenarios like a Star Trek-like Holo-Deck. But, unfortunately, William requested one for Evan so the little guy could get used to the animatronics indirectly. Evan and Charlie both got lost and um… Yeah, they’re stuck.
*Speaking of those kids, Evan went in first but got captured. Charlie was sent by William to get Evan back, but she became this project’s version of The Puppet. Needless to say, Henry wasn’t happy and William (understandably here) panicked. This was not part of the plan.
*Btw, the Nightmares weren’t originally in the system, but William might’ve accidentally “created” them while setting the machine up. Nightmare Bear probably is both the leader of that group and maaaaybe the over-arching Big Bad. Maybe.
*Anyway, let’s switch to somebody you might actually be curious about: Michael. Well… How he appears in this thing differs from story to story. At first, he’s the fox-masked teen we know and loathe/love. Next, after returning to the real world for a bit, he’s practically an adult. And then, after a tangle with Circus Baby/Elizabeth and her crew, he actually becomes Rockstar Foxy but with a stitched-up gash down his stomach. Idk why exactly on that last one at the moment, but I think it’s because his “avatar” of sorts had to be reconstructed.
*(Oh, yeah. I probably should’ve brought this up sooner. There’s time skips between each hypothetical… episode? Made-for-TV movie specials?… Whatever you wanna chalk this up to. Now, granted, it’s just time skips in the Holo-World and not in Real Life. Be weird to explain thirty-year irl time skips here.)
*Point is: Michael is our Main Man for, at least three of these after the FNAF 4 “pitch pilot”. Though I mentioned Nightmare as the overarching Big Bad, he’ll just be biding his time while the other Main Villains take the spotlight. He can wait for his grand finale.
*So, who are the villains we do see? Welp, we first have William as Spring-Bonnie. TL;DR on his deal is that he sent five random kids through the machine to test the waters, got trapped there himself as his own character, and kinda went stir-crazy after those kids locked him up somewhere. The only thing keeping him from not losing his marbles are his constant song and dance rehearsals… Which, in turn, render him completely unable to talk for the FNAF 3 section.
*Circus Baby/Elizabeth (and her gang). William, during the test run days, accidentally left the machine on one day. Liz stumbled across it while in the newfound Circus Baby’s mode, peeked in, then got scooped into it. She suffered the same fate as the five kids and quickly transformed into Circus Baby herself. Long story short, she’s been running a circus in Nightmare’s own backyard for quite a bit now. You can call her the ringleader of it, since she pretty much is.
*The overall main goals are (1) Freeing the Missing Kids/Afton and Emily Families, (2) Defeating Nightmare, and (3) Making Amends. [Maybe not in that order, but okay.]
*Oh, and the Shadow Animatronics? Henchmen for the Nightmares during this saga. Shadow Bonnie is a Dr. Frankenstein type while Shadow Freddy is a Spy for King Nightmare himself… Well, maybe on Shadow Freddy.
That’s all I’ve got so far. Sorry if this is a little stream-of-conscious-ish and rambling. I have so many ideas and too little brain cells to spill them all out in an orderly manner.

don’t give up on me [jennifer jareau]
JJ x fem reader
Summary: SSA Jennifer Jareau, JJ for liking, is dating coworker Y/N, but what happens when Y/N gets kidnapped by the unsub? Also this is a very long imagine soo enjoy!
W A R N I N G: blood, wounds, kidnapping, slight mention of assault and mentions of death
Tumblr media
*not my gif*
The jingle of JJ’s phone going off wakes you both up from your slumbers. You groan shoving my head into the pillow as she chuckles softly.
“Agent Jareau,” she begins and you hear the sounds of ‘mhm’, ‘okay’, ‘yes’ fill the silence, “Alright me and Y/L/N are on our way.”
“No. Nope. I’m staying right here.” you say shaking your head into the pillow.
“That was Hotch, we have a case here in Quantico.” you let out a groan and bury your face deeper into the pillow.
She laughs softly as she lifts your shirt a little to scratch your back lightly. You let out a soft sigh before looking at her. Her usual tamed blonde hair is everywhere and her eyes are still a little closed from just waking up.
You send her a small little smile before sitting up. You tuck her hair that is in front of her face behind her ear before kissing her softly.
“Ugh, morning breath!” she complains scrunching her nose up in disgust.
You place your hand over my heart like you’ve been shot before falling down onto the bed. Your tongue sticking out, “Agent Jareau...only a true love’s kiss could save me. Please help.”
She laughs to herself lightly before leaning down and giving me a small kiss, “Let’s go before Hotch really throws a fit.”
You let out an exasperated sigh, “Fine. By the way you should get used to my morning breath, you are my fiancé after all.” And she chuckles again lightly.
You guys get to the BAU and see everyone in the briefing room. You take a seat next to Rossi as he gives you a fist bump. JJ stood up in the front with Hotch giving him a small apologetic smile.
“Late night last night ladies?” Morgan asks with classic player smirk.
“Yes a late night of sleep that was rudely interrupted.” you look at Hotch and he stares at you with a scary glance and you put your hands up in surrender.
You like to keep the mood light in the BAU especially before or after case. The team deals with dark and twisted stuff all day. So you try to get the team to laugh and smile as often as you can.
“Now that we’re all here,” Hotch begins looking at the both you and JJ and you try your best not to laugh, “The unsub has left us a tape. It was left at the footsteps of the BAU. I’ll play it for you.”
The team turn their heads towards the projector and there’s a victim strapped onto the chair with a mask cartoon version of Prentiss on their face. They look terrified and are trying their best to escape the bounds that the unsub has them in. They’re breathing heavy, this isn’t staged. This isn’t fake. This is real life. Another person with a mask of Hotch comes in the background and shoots them right in the head and then they just stare at the camera.
“So this unsub definitely wants our attention.” Prentiss announces.
“They are very confident that they can get away with whatever they’re doing.” JJ chimes in.
“Like they’re trying to mock and taunt us.” Rossi adds on.
“The police department found the victims body: 24 year old, Maya Flynn. She was a young teacher who just got her degree. She was dumped in the alley by the BAU. Wrists had rope burns on them which makes sense as they were bound to the chairs.” JJ goes on and you look down to read the files.
“Reid and Rossi, you guys go take a look at the body. Morgan and I will go to the crime scene. JJ try to handle the press and keep all of the word of this to a minimum, do not under any circumstance leak the video tape. Alright everyone let’s catch and find our unsub.” Hotch announces.
“Wait-wait what about us?” Prentiss asks gesturing to the two of you.
“Prentiss, you were specifically targeted in this video. We don’t know what the unsub’s game is, but we know that you were their first kill. We need to keep you under watch here, you can help JJ or Garcia. And Y/L/N, you didn’t finish your paperwork from the last case and Strauss is on my ass about, so once you’re done with that we will reassess your assignment.”
Everyone leaves the briefing room to get to their assignments, but you, Prentiss, and JJ.
“Love, you didn’t finish your paperwork?” JJ stares at you with her death glares.
“No...I wanted to go home early.” I reply and she shakes her head before giving me a kiss on the head.
“Finish it up.” she says sternly.
“I will, be safe?” you ask holding your pinky out for a pinky promise.
She locks your fingers before we kiss our own hand, “Always.”
             ______________________________________________________
“Oh here comes Y/N! She goes for the 3 and SPLASHHH!” you yell as your crumpled up piece of paper makes it way to the trash can.
“You know you’re never going to get any work done and go out on the field if you keep messing around.” Prentiss points out clearly annoyed with just sitting here and doing nothing.
“You’re just mad that you can’t contribute to the case.” you contradict and she rolls her eyes before getting up from her desk, “Where ya going?”
“To get coffee.” she responds.
“Coffee machine is broken. Let me go get us some because I am starving and want a really good sandwich. Plus you can’t leave.” you point out grabbing your phone, keys, and wallet and shoving them into your pocket.
“Oh yes please!” Prentiss screams, “You’re the best!”
“I hope so I am your best friend,” you shoot back sending her a wink which led to her rolling her eyes again, “I’ll be right back. Text me your order!”
You walk the short stroll to our favorite cafe, one you’ve walked a million times some with Prentiss, JJ, and Garcia, but some on your lonesome. The breeze nice and cool, it’s a good break from all of the life threatening and disturbing things we see on a daily basis. All of the kids walking around holding their parents hands. Their eyes hold so much innocence, it’s sad that they don’t know the true dangers of this world.
The next thing you know the world went black.
             ______________________________________________________
Team’s POV
“Where’s Y/N?” JJ asks as the rest of the team walks back into the briefing room.
“She went to go grab us some coffee and sandwiches, she should be here by now.” Prentiss says and she stands staring at her phone searching for a text from Y/N.
They all sit down around the table looking at the board, trying to piece together every little thing, but coming up short. They don’t even have a profile they could give the local police department. That’s how stumped they are.
Garcia comes running into the room with tears filled in her eyes.
“Garcia? What’s wrong?” Hotch asks with concern laced in his tone.
“I got sent an anonymous video from the unsub. I tried to track down where it was sent from, but it was a burner phone.” she says speaking really fast, that’s how the team knows something is really wrong, when she’s speaking a million miles per hour.
The video starts to play from the TV monitor and gasps filled the room. There was Y/N strapped onto a chair, no mask on her face like the other video just Y/N and her trying to remain calm.
Most of them seemed to think Y/N was okay, but her best friend Prentiss and  JJ knew better. They could see the fear glistening in her eyes.
The unsub punched Y/N across the face and Y/N’s head fell back. She continued to spit and cough out blood. JJ’s heart stopped and flinched slightly at the sight.
“Alright now that I’ve knocked the sense into you, are you ready to deliver my message?” the unsub asked, his voice distorted.
“No. You can’t break me, is that the best you can do?” Y/N asked knowing that it’ll hopefully give Garcia enough time to track something, anything down.
Then there came another punch. Her eye immediately started to bruise, “Come on baby. Do it for me.” the unsub whispered in a gross seductive voice.
“Jay,” you whisper, but the room is quiet enough that the camera picks it up, “I love you and for you I’d do anything.”
“That’s not what I asked you to say!” the unsub screamed punching Y/N again, “Now say what I told you!”
“He wants to ruin our lives. One by one, he’s been stalking us for years. If we don’t give him what he wants, he will ruin us.” she says finally following orders.
“Now what do I want?” he asks.
“Hotch he wants the files, something about the Black Hood. I don’t know why, but he wants them. Specifically from you and Rossi.” Y/N says blood dripping down her mouth.
“Good girl.” he whispers, “Now Hotchner, Rossi, Morgan, Jareau, Prentiss, Garcia, and Reid, Agent Y/L/N doesn’t have a lot of time. She’s definitely a tough cookie to break, but I never back down from a challenge. I’m gonna call you guys to set up a deal, you’ll know who it is once I call,” the unsub gets closer to Y/N and his mouth is right by her ear as his hands wander along her body, “And in the mean time, we’re gonna have lots of fun aren’t we Y/N?”
The camera cuts out and JJ releases a scream, “No! No! No!” she begins to pace back and forth.
“JJ get a hold of yourself right now. If your ability to go along with this case professionally is compromised then I will gladly have you sit this one out.” Hotch yells sternly.
“No you don’t get to tell me that I have to calm down. When we went after Foyet your emotions were compromised yet all of still stood by your side. No one questioned your authority. When Doyle went after Emily, all of our emotions were compromised yet none of us were threatened to sit this one out. So you have no right to do the same to me. I am not some local detective, I am a BAU agent!” JJ yells and everyone is taken aback in surprise, but she’s not wrong.
They all went through something, yet none of them were threatened to step down. Especially Hotch with Foyet. Hotch and JJ continued to stare at each other none of them willing to break until Reid chimed in.
“The Black Hood case, that was a case in Riverdale back in the late 80′s to early 90′s. Where the killer went around terrorizing the town focusing on ‘sinners’ and he wanted to cleanse the town. What would the unsub want with the files?” Reid asks and Rossi steps in to try and break the tension.
“Me and Hotch worked together on it. We caught the guy fairly quickly. I always thought that it was too easy, but they just explained we got lucky that he slipped. Maybe we got it wrong, maybe we didn’t catch the unsub.” Rossi points out and after one last look at JJ, Hotch breaks his position.
“It’s always a possibility, but that would make him in his mid to late 60s. It can’t be him now can it?” Hotch points out pointing at the video.
“No, this guy looks to strong and his temper is too high for an older man. Plus he was very sexual towards Y/N, an older man wouldn’t have that kind of hormones.” Prentiss observes.
“Maybe a son? A family member?” Morgan asks.
“But why would they want the files if they know their dad wasn’t caught?” JJ chimes in finally after getting her breathing under control, her hand resting on her stomach.
Something that Emily picked up on fairly quickly, but brushed it off. She’ll talk to her about it when the time is right. Not right now.
The cover photo of the video was Y/N sitting there with blood dripping down her mouth. The unsub right next to her ear. JJ’s eyes couldn’t leave that picture. The picture of you in pain and scared.
“Maybe it’s not the actual Black Hood’s son. Maybe it’s the one who was caught and framed for it. He died in jail recently didn’t he? That could be his son’s stressor. He believed and was told his dad was innocent for so long that maybe he knows it wasn’t him. He wants to prove his dad wasn’t as terrible as everyone thinks. Sorta like an avenger, he wants to avenge his dad’s legacy!” Reid yells at and Hotch nods.
“Sounds like a good start Garcia-” he begins to say, but Garcia cuts him off.
“Already on it sir.” Garcia responds tapping rapidly on her computer.
“I’m gonna get some air.” JJ says and the rest of the team nods, but she’s already gone before she can get a response.
Hotch nods his head towards the door to let Emily know to follow and make sure she’s okay which she gladly obliged to.
              ______________________________________________________
JJ’s POV
I ran outside the BAU doors and immediately threw up in the bush closest to me, tears pouring down my face. The thought of the unsub doing that to Y/N and watching it made me sick to my stomach. Not only that, but the thought of what he’s doing to her right now.
I felt someone hold my hair back which I immediately tensed up to, “It’s okay. It’s just me.” I hear Emily whisper and my shoulders immediately relax.
After throwing up my entire breakfast I look at Em and she has concern brimming her eyes, “I’m scared Em.”
“I know, but Y/N’s strong. She’s a tough cookie and I know she’ll fight whoever this asshole is just so she can be with you.” she reassures me and i nod.
“Are you okay? I know how close you guys are. You were practically attached to the hip ever since you joined the team.” I ask her and she lets out a small sigh before biting her fingernails.
“A part of me feels guilty, well all of me. I wanted a coffee and her being the sweet person she is wanted to get one for me, but it was also just an excuse for her to not finish her paperwork. But I also know that Y/N’s glad it was her and not me. If she let me go out like that she wouldn’t forgive herself, so she took the risk, just to protect me. And I know she’d want us to stay strong and keep things light, but it’s hard when we witnessed what we just saw and knowing that she went out to protect me. Not just me, but all of us. That could be any one of us right now, but she decided to take the leap.” Em responds shaking her head.
“She really is a hero...” I respond placing my hands over my stomach again.
Emily was about to say something before her phone went off, “Hotch says Garcia just got something. We gotta go back in.” I’m about to cry again when Emily pulls me into a hug, “We’re gonna get her back.”
              ______________________________________________________
Team’s POV
“What have we got?” Prentiss asks as her and JJ walk into the room.
“Rylan Svenson, 24 year old son of Brett Svenson. This would’ve made him about 12 years old at the time of the murders. A good enough age to know where your dad was at the time of the murders. He now lives in Richmond, Virginia after moving from Riverdale, 4 years ago, and makes the daily commute as a postal worker here in Quantico.” Garcia explains, “No criminal record, but grown up in a rough social environment. Seems like he was a bit of loner in high school because everyone believed his dad was the Black Hood.”
“I think we’ve got our guy.” Rossi states and everyone nods.
“Alright when he calls we need to keep him on the line for as long as possible. He’s gonna have Y/N do most of the talking so JJ?” JJ turns her attention to Hotch, “Can you keep her talking? Try to make conversation, we’ll try to have Garcia track down the call. Or see if we can notice something that we didn’t notice before.”
“I can keep her talking.” JJ nods and Hotch nods back.
              ______________________________________________________
Your POV

“Wakey, wakey princess,” Rylan whispers to you, he just injected some drug into your arm causing you to pass out, “It’s time for your special call home.”
You can feel your heart rate rising even higher each time he injects a drug into you after back talking him. Your pant leg has a hole in it. He stabbed you when his hands started to bleed from all the punching and then he wrapped the wound. He can’t get what he wants if you’re dead. He sets up the video camera and hits the call button after a few moments the team answers.
You can’t help, but smile at Hotch and Rossi in front of you, “Rylan Svenson? Is that you?” Hotch asks and Rylan has an evil smirk on his face.
“Took you a while to figure it out huh Hotch?” he responds.
“I remember you. You were just a little kid when we met.” Rossi points out.
“Yeah and I told you countless times it wasn’t my dad!” he yells out which causes you to flinch back lightly, last time he yelled liked that a knife penetrated your leg.
“Jay,” you whisper again and you smile at JJ’s face appearing into the frame.
“Hi love, you stay strong for me okay?” she whispers back smiling sadly at the nickname that only you call her.
You’re about to reply when Rylan pops in, “You know I wish I could’ve kidnapped you instead Jareau. It would have been a lot more fun to see them rush to find you especially since you’re pregnant,” your eyes wide slightly at what he said, “Oh wait...no one knows yet do they?”
“Is that true?” you ask your voice raspy and dry.
JJ nods, “Yeah it is. I found out a couple weeks ago, IVF worked, love. We’re gonna have a baby.” JJ’s voice cracked and you couldn’t helped, but smile at the thought of your little family.
“Which is why I need you to keep fighting. I need you to stay alive and stay strong not just for me, but for us,” she whispers placing her hands over her stomach.
Little to your knowledge the boys noticed something in the background that gave away where you were and they were on their way now; JJ just needs to keep you on camera for a little longer.
“I need you to stay alive so that we can lay in bed during our days off or late at night talking about baby names. I need you to stay alive so you can come with me to his or her first doctor’s appointment and we can hear their heartbeat. I need you to stay alive so we can paint their new bedroom and buy cute little clothes for them. I need you to stay alive so our son or daughter can meet their mom.” JJ had tears running down her face now and so did you, your heart rate still rising due to mix of drugs in your system, “Please Y/N. Please promise me that you will come home to us.”
JJ extends her pinky out towards the camera and you do the same. She brings her hand closer to her lips and kisses it softly and you’re about to do the same when everything goes black again.
              ______________________________________________________
JJ’s POV
Y/N’s about to kiss her hand when all of a sudden her eyes rolls to the back of her head. All of a sudden her body starts to jolt as foam starts to come out of her mouth.
“Rylan Sverson hands up right now!” I hear Morgan yell.
Rylan automatically takes off through the backdoor, but knowing them one of them was waiting out there for him. Reid comes into the frame and releases Y/N from the ropes and places her on her side.
He starts to count out loud probably timing the length of the seizure, “We need a medic in here! Right now!” Instead of going back to counting Reid starts doing chest compressions.
“JJ meet us at the hospital, we’ll be right there!” Hotch points out and the camera cuts out.
I release a loud sob at the sight of Reid doing chest compressions. Garcia and Prentiss escorts me to the car, neither of them leaving my side throughout the entire car ride.
They keep telling me it’s gonna be okay, but I can’t listen to them right now. The only thing I can focus on right now is hearing from Y/N herself that she’s okay.
We get to the hospital to find the boys already there like they promised. They explain that the doctors have her in the operating room right now. Other than her bloodstream, her leg seems like the only part of her injured. Rylan injected her with a mix of cocaine, meth, and heroine causing her brain and heart to haywire. They needed to give her a blood transfusion to get all of the drugs out, it seemed like a simple procedure, but anything could happen.
Rylan Sverson died, he was shot multiple times by Rossi for trying to shoot Hotch for trying to negotiate.
The whole team sat with me in the waiting room. Strauss even stopped by for a little before ultimately having to leave to finish up the paperwork that you didn’t get to finish.
“I’m sorry that I snapped and threatened to take you off the case.” Hotch sat down next to me and said. “It’s okay, I understand.” I whispered back.
“You know like Reid when Y/N joined remember how young she was? A bright eyed innocent girl excited for her new job at becoming a hero,” he begins and smiles softly, “Usually that innocence and that brightness fades with time, all of these horrible things we see on a daily basis it’s only a matter of time before it does. But Y/N has been with us for four years and not once have I seen it fade. From the day I met her I knew I wanted to protect her like a sister so me yelling at you was just a way to yell at myself to stay calm and professional.”
I look up at him and he as tears forming in his eyes. I place my hand on his knee, “She’s gonna be okay.” and he nods agreeing.
Many many hours passed when Y/N’s doctor finally came out, “She’s okay. The wound in her leg is all stitched up and her bloodstream is still clearing out. We got most of the drugs out, but some still linger. So we want to keep her here a little longer for precautions. But she’s awake and alert asking for Agent Jareau here.”
“Thank you Doctor.” Hotch says with a small smile and he nods before leaving.
“You guys can come in too. I know she’d love to see you all.” I say and we make our way to her hospital room.
              ______________________________________________________
Your POV
There was a soft knock at the door and you saw the team standing there with smiles on their faces.
“Hey guys!” you try to say with much enthusiasm as possible, but your tired state made it hard.
“Hey kid.” Morgan smiles as he got closer before ruffling your hair and your scrunch your nose up in annoyance.
Rossi gave you a fist bump, Hotch gave you one of his nods and a small smile, Reid, Prentiss, and Garcia all piled on top of you in one of the best group hugs you could ever get.
“Jareau,” you say softly as she plants herself next to your bedside.
You can see the tears that are already formed in her eyes, “Y/L/N,” she smiles at you softly and you gladly return the smile.
“You did really well out there Y/N.” Hotch says, “You took the risk to go out there. You knew how dangerous it was, yet you still went out because you knew if any one of us went out it would’ve ended the same way. I wish you didn’t do that and thought of yourself first, but I think on behalf of all of us: Thank you.”
“Woah that was deep, I was just trying to get out of doing paperwork.” you joke trying to lighten the serious mood and the worried looks on their face, which worked, their worried faced turned into smiles.
“That’s the sarcasm and smart ass remarks we missed and appreciate.” Rossi adds smiling.
“In all seriousness, I couldn’t let Prentiss out there and I knew that if you guys took one step out there alone, it would’ve been any one of you. You all mean so much to me I couldn’t allow that to happen.” you say and they all send your grateful smiles except for JJ who just seems lost in thought.
Prentiss picks up on JJ’s behavior and decides to step in, “I think we should give you guys some time to talk.” the rest of the team nods before saying their goodbyes.
After they leave JJ just continued to stand there staring into emptiness, “Pull up a chair, stay awhile.” you say jokingly trying to see that beautiful smile of her, but ultimately end up empty.
“Jay, baby, what’s going on?” you whisper and her gorgeous blue eyes finally lock with yours.
“I almost lost you today. We almost lost you today.” she whispers emphasizing the we in her sentence and you let out a soft sigh.
You scoot over a little in your bed and pat the spot next to her so she can cuddle up next to you. She hesitates at first, but ultimately sits down. Her head immediately goes onto your chest as her leg wrapped around your healthy one. Your arms wrapped her body as she fit into you perfectly.
You kiss the top of her head when she’s finally settled in, “I’m right here Jay. I promise you, I’m not going anywhere. I’m not leaving you or our baby ever. It will always be us.”
“I know what your intentions were and they were good, but if we didn’t get there in time. If one thing went differently, you wouldn’t be here right now and I’d be holding a lifeless body.” she begins to cry onto your hospital gown.
You let her cry playing with her softly, “But I’m right here now baby. I’m real, I’m not a dream or a pigment of your imagination. I’m right here.” you squeeze her a little tighter and she looks up at you. You plant a soft kiss to those perfect lips of hers.
You place your hand over her stomach before leaning down a little to whisper, “Hey there cutie. I’m your mom and I can’t wait to meet you! You’re gonna have the best little family out there. You’ll have Uncle Derek, Uncle Aaron, Uncle David, and Uncle Spencer. Your aunt’s are the best too, Aunt Penelope and Aunt Emily. You also have the best mommy out there, she’s a hero! And me and your mommy are gonna make sure we protect you and keep that little sparkle in your eyes for as long as we can. I promise.” you place your pinky over her belly before kissing your hand softly.
              ______________________________________________________
You and JJ walk into the BAU to visit the team with both of you on maternity leave for awhile it’s hard to see them. And it was especially hard when they were on a case when JJ was in labor.
You held JJ’s hand in one of your hands and in the other was the baby’s carseat. JJ knocked on the briefing room door before entering, everyone looked up and smiled at the two of you.
“You guys have another three weeks! Get out of here!” Rossi yells jokingly and we all laugh.
“We just wanted you guys to meet our son: Daniel Aaron Jareau or Dani for short” you take Dani out of his little carseat and hold him in your arms.
Everyone gathered around and witnessed the beautiful piece of innocence in front of them.
“Aaron huh?” Hotch asks raising his eyebrows and giving one of his rare smiles.
“Yeah right. Couldn’t have been Derek.” Derek scoffs.
“Or Spencer,” Reid chimes in.
“Or David!” Rossi yells and we all laugh.
“We just thought it was fitting.” JJ smiled at Hotch thinking back to the conversation she had with him back at the hospital.
“Well I’m honored.” he smiles even wider, probably wider than you ever seen it.
They all looked at the newborn in front of them. Each of them taking turns holding him. He had JJ’s beautiful blue eyes, but now they were mixed with your innocence that everyone seemed to love.
Dani Aaron Jareau was just another reminder that no matter how dark and twisted this world is, no matter how many bad things they witness on a daily basis, that there’s always some sunshine or light to fill the darkness.

Hey, Elon was it? It's Jackie from the Dallas Branch. I know I don't post much there, and I know we've never really interacted before, but I just need some sense of normalcy right now.
I was catching up on your blog and saw that you were expecting! Congrats! That really is wonderful. I have two boys, but they're in college right now so I hardly get to see them. That's alright though. Cassidy, Keith, and Emily are sort of like my kids now. Especially Emily.
Anyway, you don't have to reply to this. I just needed someone around my age to talk to right now. Although it's sometime in the early 90's for you right? I would've been a preteen then... weird how this nexus works.
-Jackie
(@dallas-ghostbusters)
Oh, Hi !
Yes. It's Elon- and it's nice to meet you, Jackie. So to speak. Meet you in the only way possible I suppose, but with how this nexus madness is acting, I'm not sure if we're eventually going to be able to meet face to face.
Normalcy ... what a concept. I want some of that myself but haven't found any since before I was born, I think, so I wouldn't know where to find it. But, I'll try to help however I can.
Ah. Yes. I'm expecting ... still getting used to that, honestly. It's frustrating. One moment I feel amazing and filled with energy and astounding positivity, the next I'm scared and nervous of existing and sick to my stomach. Since you've had two kids, I'm guessing you probably felt this too, huh?
Well, yes actually, it's 19⬛⬛. It's still so very strange that there are people I'm able to communicate with who are in the future! I would say look me up in your time and tell me what you find, but also please don't. That could mess up the timelines and cause a rift. Saw that happen in a movie once.
Maybe I'd be able to find you here! But, I won't look, that could be just as dangerous.
- E.

Liquid Courage
Word Count: 2,064
Warnings: Maybe content warnings for alcohol/being drunk?
A/N: I had this idea in my head for a while and I’m just now getting around to writing it. I hope you enjoy.
Tumblr media
Leaving the crowded club, you notice it has rained since you went inside with your whole B.A.U. team. A drunk JJ and Emily made it into a cab with Penelope an hour ago. And Rossi, Spencer, and Tara left while you were trying to wrangle Luke with Matt. At least the weather was nice enough to stop raining by the time you stragglers made it out.
The music is still obnoxiously loud when you make it to your car down the block and unlock it for Matt. He’s able to dump an intoxicated Luke into your passenger seat without a problem and shuts the door on the man softly.
“I would take him home, but Kristy said Chloe’s fever spiked,” Matt says when he turns back to face you. “We’ll have to take her to the E.R. if it isn’t down by the time I get home.”
You gesture at your car where Luke is sitting motionless, but obviously talking to himself. Probably thinking he still had Matt for an audience. For such a tough guy, he really was a lightweight.
“I don’t know how he got so drunk, but I think I can handle him,” you say and give Matt a quick hug. “I hope Chloe feels better.”
“Thanks.”
And just like that Matt is off, leaving you alone with the man you’ve had a crush on for years...while said man is drunk off his ass. Great. At least he’s the one in the chatty mood and not you.
By the time you make it into the car, Luke has noticed his lack of audience and turns to face you.
“Where did you go?”
You give him a sideways glance as you start your car. The 90’s station you left your radio on starts blaring Nirvana so you turn it down before answering Luke.
“I didn’t go anywhere. Matt and I were talking about Chloe and now I’m driving you home.”
Luke nods to himself like you just said the wisest thing he’s ever heard. You chuckle to yourself as you pull onto the street. You’ve never seen Luke drunk before, but he didn’t hold back tonight.
“Are you okay, Luke?”
“See, you’re so nice,” Luke says while pointing a finger at you. “That’s why everybody likes you.”
“O-okay. But how are you?” you ask. A drunk Luke doesn’t seem to be the worst of all the drunks you’ve dealt with, but he definitely makes the least amount of sense. His words all seem to go from Point A to Point H without any external need to go through the others. At the bar he jumped from how Tara’s sweater was red to the new Batman movie with Robert Pattinson. Sure, there was probably a connection in there somewhere, but god knows what it is.
“I’ve been better,” he says in a way that seems like it’s supposed to be too quiet for you to hear, but is actually at normal volume.
You spare a glance at him before focusing back on the road. “What’s up?”
Luke leans back into his seat and presses his left cheek into his headrest so he’s facing you. Despite his drunken body language, his warm brown eyes still seem alert.
“You know everyone thinks you should date Reid…” Luke left the words hanging there while you sputtered out a cough. The abrupt change in topic wasn’t surprising, what was surprising was the topic itself.
“Excuse me?”
“There’s a pool going about how long until you guys start dating.”
You nearly make your tires squeal as you come to an abrupt stop just a couple blocks from Luke’s apartment.
“What the hell is wrong with you people?” you ask when you finally manage to put your thoughts back together and continue the trip to Luke’s. The car is silent except for the 90’s rock still softly coming out of your speakers.
“Garcia says three months, JJ has two, I said never,” Luke says as you pull into the parking lot.
“Thank god one of you has your head on straight,” you mutter as you turn off your car and turn to look at him.
Luke has gotten even more comfortable in your passenger seat and has his eyes closed. It’s too bad he can’t just sleep in your car. Now you’ll have to drag a drunk and sleepy man all the way up to his apartment. You lean over the center console and unbuckle Luke’s seatbelt when his eyes open and focus on your face.
“So, you’re not into Reid?”
“Ugh,” you say, leaning back into your seat. “No, he’s my best friend, but no. Report that back to your little group, won’t you?”
Luke just grins at you so you get out of your car and make it back around to the passenger side. It seems Luke thinks he’s more sober than he actually is because he has managed to get the car door open and get out, but he nearly knocks you over as he does it.
You grab onto his arm and try to drape it over your shoulders. Somehow Luke is everywhere and it doesn’t seem possible that there’s this much of him. You had forgotten how tall Luke actually is when not compared to Matt and Spencer.
“Did you ever think about NOT eating your vegetables as a kid?” you ask, wrapping an arm around his waist and kicking your passenger door shut with your foot.
Luke leans into you more and getting him to his apartment door becomes more of a chore. By the time you make it there, surprisingly, his incessant chattering has come to an end. You look up at him to see his eyes are still open and they’re staring at you.
“Um, keys?”
Luke goes to hand you his keys, but doesn’t let them go when you grab them. Your eyes drift away from the keys and back up to Luke’s. Your hand is slightly overlapping his on the keychain and you’re shocked by his warmth.
“You know I love you, right?” he asks while still staring into your eyes. “I’m in love with you.”
Your heart starts racing and it feels hard to breathe. You can feel yourself melting into his gorgeous eyes. But your rational mind jumps to the fact that it’s late, Luke’s drunk, and he has never shown any sign of any feelings for you before.
“Yeah?” you ask while pulling the keys out of his grip. “Well, why don’t you try telling me that when you’re sober?”
Maybe there’s an edge in your tone or maybe Luke just thinks better of pressing the issue, but you manage to get inside and get him into bed with Roxy without another word about it.
The sincere look on his face and the words you’ve wanted to hear for months haunt you the whole car ride back to your own apartment.
-----
You wake up with a headache the next morning despite only having one drink the night before. The thought of what JJ, Emily, and Luke are going through makes you thankful you didn’t drink more. With that thought, your mind drifts back to what Drunk Luke said when you dropped him off at his apartment.
His eyes staring you down as he says the one thing that can really hurt you. Because it wasn’t real. You’ve heard of drunk people becoming super friendly before and, while Luke doesn’t seem like that kind of drunk, apparently he is one. Your heart gives a painful squeeze at that thought and you get out of bed to find some headache medicine. The only way you’re going to get your mind off this is to get some housework done.
A few hours into your deep clean and you’re up to your elbow in the fridge trying to figure out what that mysterious take out container is in the back. You open it and take a sniff before gagging. Okay, definitely more than a couple weeks old. You drop it into the trash can by your foot before tightening your ponytail again. Maybe you should clean out the fridge BEFORE leaving for cases instead of after.
A knock on the door drags you out of your thoughts. Uncertain about who would show up at your house unannounced, you shut the refrigerator door and look out the peephole.
“Luke?”
You open the door to see a tired looking Luke standing in your hallway wearing dark jeans and a red shirt, holding two coffee cups. It was probably a bad day to be a slob and get housework done because Luke looks really good. You shake your head softly to get that thought out of there. You and Luke aren’t a thing. Stop it.
“What are you doing here?”
Instead of answering your question, Luke holds out a coffee cup to you. “I know you don’t do coffee, but I know you like tea”
You slowly wrap your hand around the cup and back up so Luke can come in if he wants. Luke looks like he could do with a few more hours of sleep, but otherwise seems to be in a good mood despite what was probably a rough morning.
“How’s the hangover?” You ask while shutting the door behind him and turning around to face him. Luke’s closer than you expected and you stumble back half a step.
“Not that bad actually,” Luke says before sipping his coffee. The look in his eyes is unfamiliar to you. Something about Luke seems...mischievous. Which can probably only mean bad things for you.
Luke normally doesn’t make you feel this nervous, but something about his proximity or the look on his face or the words he drunkenly spewed last night makes your heart pick up speed. To give yourself something to do, you take a sip of your tea and realize he picked up your favorite. You don’t remember telling him what it is, but working with profilers means they pick up on things most people don’t.
“So, um, why--”
“I had something to tell you last night, but you didn’t want to hear it unless I was sober,” Luke says, interrupting your awkward attempt to start a conversation.
“Why can’t you be a blackout drunk like the rest of us?” you joke.
Luke grabs the cup out of your hand and places both drinks down on the side table next to the door. He tucks a strand of hair behind your ear before cupping your cheek. Your poor heart takes off at a gallop and you don’t know how much more of this it can take. You feel vulnerable and weak and find yourself drowning in his eyes.
“I’m serious,” he says with a look that you could only describe that way. “I know you think I only said that last night because I was drunk, but I meant what I said. The alcohol definitely helped though.”
You can’t help the laugh that escapes you thanks to your nerves and racing heart. The grin Luke gives you in response could power your apartment for a year. God. That fucking grin. It’s what got you into this mess to begin with.
“I thought the group consensus was I’m supposed to be with Spencer,” you say before you can stop yourself.  Really? Now’s the time you want to take that dig into the B.A.U. pool about your dating life?
Luke’s hand falls from your cheek at that and you feel your breathing become more uneven. Your stupid mouth always gets you into trouble.
“If you remember, my bet was never,” Luke reminds you.
“Because you’re the only one with half a brain.”
“Because I’m in love with you and that would have crushed me,” Luke says softly. You grab his hands at that and intertwine your fingers with his.
“I love you too. I have for a while now. I don’t know how a group full of profilers never noticed.”
Using your intertwined hands, Luke pulls you closer until you’re almost completely pressed against each other. He lets go of your hands to wrap his arms around your waist and close the gap further. Without thinking, you wrap your arms around his neck.
I can’t believe this is happening is the last thought in your mind before Luke leans down and presses his lips to yours.

Best Romantic Movies on Amazon Prime Right Now
https://ift.tt/3pc4e7e
Some movies brave enough to tread where only pop songs and poems go, and try to capture all the drama, contradictions and happy, bubbly feelings that come along with romance and love. It’s high-time that we honor them and defend them against their unearned sappy reputations with the best romantic movies on Amazon Prime.
We’ve scoured Amazon Prime to find the best romantic movies available for your viewing pleasure. Here are the best romantic movies on Amazon Prime. Ok, some of them are perfectly sappy.
The Big Sick
Kumail Nanjiani and his wife Emily Gordon’s theatrical debut made big waves when it came out for the singularity of its vision and just how plain funny it is. Now Amazon gets to reap the benefits of producing a bonafide romantic indie hit by getting its exclusive streaming rights. The Big Sick is the real life story of comedian Kumail Nanjiani meeting and falling in love with his wife, Emily (who is played by Zoe Kazan in the film).
Kumail and Emily’s courtship process is difficult enough to begin with due to Kumail’s family pressuring him to find a nice Pakistani girl to settle down with. But soon things get even more difficult as Emily suffers a health scare and Kumail must suddenly contend with that situation and Emily’s eccentric parents who have just come to town. The Big Sick is a clear vision from talented people and tells a beautifully convincing love story while making plenty of room for laughter. Not only that but it’s a big win for our list of best romance movies on Amazon Prime.
Watch The Big Sick
What If
Canadian drama What If (originally known as The F Word before the MPAA got its greasy fingers all over it) is a fun romantic movie and a tremendous showcase for its two young stars Daniel Radcliffe (you know what he’s from) and Zoe Kazan (The Big Sick). Radcliffe stars as Wallace – a directionless young man living in Toronto who decides to become more social after his girlfriend cheats on him.
Enter Kylo Ren (Adam Driver playing a character who is unfortunately not named Kylo Ren) who takes Wallace to a party where he meets the alluring Chantry (Kazan). Wallace and Chantry immediately fall for each other. Unfortunately there’s the small matter of Chantry’s boyfriend. What If? is a sweet little Canadian flick that knows how to push its audiences romantic buttons.

Still Mine
Still Mine isn’t necessarily about romance. It’s about love – a deep prevailing love built up over decades. Craig Morrison (James Cromwell) is a farmer in rural New Brunswick, Canada. He intends to build a new house for his ailing wife Irene (Geneviève Bujold) but runs into trouble with the local municipality’s bureaucracy prevents him from doing so.
Still Mine is as romantic a movie about bureacratic development regulations as has ever existed. Cromwell and Bujold have wonderful chemistry and paint a portrait of profound, abiding love.

Some Kind of Wonderful
Some Kind of Wonderful doesn’t have the same pop culture standing as other John Huges films like Sixteen Candles or Pretty in Pink. Still this remains a worthwhile entry into the Hughes canon on teenage love.

Keith Nelson (Eric Stoltz) is a high school outcast who has his eyes set on popular girl Amanda Jones (Lea Thompson). Thankfully he has his tomboyish Watts (Mary Stuart Masterson) to help court her. Based on that meager plot description, you may think you know where Some Kind of Wonderful is going to end up, and…you’re probably right. That doesn’t make the journey any less satisfying.

To Catch a Thief
You know who would make a great romance film? The guy who did Psycho. Yes To Catch a Thief is a classic romance film from none other than Alfred Hitchcock. Of course, there’s a lot more going on in this heist thriller.
Cary Grant stars as retired cat burglar John Robie. When another burglar starts copying his act, Robie has to undergo One Last Job (TM) to catch…a thief. In the process John comes across the wealthy Frances (Grace Kelly) and the two strike up an unlikely romance for the ages.

Hello, My Name is Doris
Between TBS’ Search Party and Hello, My Name is Doris, director Michael Showalter had a stellar 2016. Hello, My Name is Doris is a wonderfully sweet, equally tragic and completely hilarious romantic comedy. Sally Field stars as the titular Doris, a lively woman in her 60s who after the death of her mother becomes infatuated with a younger man.

Sabrina (1995)
Let’s get one thing out of the way right now. Sabrina‘s theatrical poster is dope. When I was a kid and I would pass the VHS cover in Blockbuster, I couldn’t help but think “Wow, that is a real adult movie.” At a young age, the mere sight of a woman’s lascivious red lipstick (lascivious in my head at least) was enough to fry my brain. Poster aside, however, Sabrina is an excellent romance with some real star power. It’s a remake of the 1954 film of the same name starring Billy Wilder and Audrey Hepburn.
This version was directed by the great Sydney Pollack and stars Harrison Ford, Greg Kinnear, and Julia Ormond. Weirdly enough Greg Kinnear plays the ultimate rich playboy while Harrison Ford plays his studious older brother. Weird casting choices but it works out alright thanks to each actor’s chemistry with Ormond.

Ghost
Ghost is much more than just the reason you can no longer attend a pottery class without giggling. It’s a legitimately great sci-fi romance yarn. Patrick Swayze stars as Sam a banker who is killed by a mugger. Immediately post-death he discovers that he has become a ghost and can no longer directly interact with his girlfriend Molly (Demi Moore).
Sam sets out to solve his own murder and somehow reconnect with the woman he loves. Ghostcomes along with all the corniness of an early ’90s blockbuster but its central theme of love trying to achieve the impossible plays in any decade.

Brokeback Mountain
Longing is a crucial part of the formula in any romance movie and Brokeback Mountain has it in spades. Ang Lee’s 2005 film played a crucial role in bringing queer cinema to the mainstream and it did so by presenting mostly straight audiences with a universal depiction of love and passion – the kind of love that supersedes the norms and expectations of everything in your life to that point.
Heath Ledger and Jake Gylllenhaal star as 1960s Wyoming cowboys Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist. While herding sheep on the Brokeback mountains, Jack makes a sexual pass at Ennis and the two begin a summer-long physical affair. The movie then follows the pair through the subsequent decades as they try to return to their “normal” lives, all the while unable to forget their time on Brokeback.

Letter to Juliet
Somewhere along the way, Hollywood decided to let Amanda Seyfried become the queen of romantic comedies set in exotic locales…and that’s perfectly fine with us.
In Letters to Juliet, Seyfried stars as a New York fact checker Sophie on “pre-honeymoon” with her fiancé in Verona. There she learns of the phenomenon of “letters to Juliet” where women women bring love letters to Juliet Montague’s Verona courtyard. When Sophie answers a letter from 1957, she embarks on a decades-spanning journey of love and self-discover.y

What Men Want
Back in 2000, only one film had the distinction…nay, the courage of trying to figure out What Women Want. The answer, apparently, was Mel Gibson. We don’t talk about this movie that much.

2019’s What Men Want is a loose remake of the earlier film. And it has something that the original never did: Taraji P. Henson! Henson stars as Ali Davis, a sports agent who gains the ability to read men’s minds after meeting a shaman. The movie puts Ali’s male-dominated profession to good use and in the process tells a nifty little romance story.

There’s Something About Mary
More than two decades later, it’s still wild to see that above screenshot. Like, that ran in newspapers. It was on a poster! And if you don’t know why a photo of Cameron Diaz with a unique hairstyle is a big deal then you’ve likely not seen the Farrelly Brothers 1998 gross out classic There’s Something About Mary.
This is not so much a romance movie as it is an exploration of the pitfalls of attraction. Diaz stars as Mary Jensen…and there’s just something about her. Ben Stiller, Matt Dillon, Lee Evans, and Chris Elliott all play men who are helplessly in love with Mary and trying to win her affection. In the process, many injuries as sustained.

Moulin Rouge!
If you like your romance with more than a dash of Baz Luhrmann saturated colors and big, sexy musical numbers then Moulin Rouge! is almost certainly the movie for you.
This 2001 film is set in 1900s Paris amid the Bohemian movement. When Christian (Ewan McGregor) falls in love with Moulin Rouge cabaret actress and courtesan Satine (Nicole Kidman), he must contend with her impending betrothal (or really sale) to the Duke of Montrose. As one might imagine, this is resolved with quite a bit of singing and dancing.

Sylvie’s Love
Amazon Prime’s 2020 film Sylvie’s Love positively oozes jazz era atmosphere and tells a compelling, decades-spanning love story in the process.
Tessa Thompson stars as Sylvie Parker, a young woman who one day meets an aspiring saxophonist (played by Kerry Washington’s husband and former NFLer Nnamdi Asomugha) and in her father’s record shop in 1950s Harlem. This leads to sweeping romance that guides the pair through the era’s jazz music scene.

The Werewolf Of Fever Swamp
I finally did it...I watched it before Friday The 13th ended today....and I saw Friday The 13th The Final Chapter was still going on IFC. After that the marathon will be over.
But I finally watched it. In a nutshell I liked it. But to me the most disappointing thing is the fact you can’t put on subtitles and the DVD has no menu. Except when pressing square it restarted the intro when I tried it out.....
Surprisingly after it ended. The PS4 was brought back to the menu....that was something. God I’m reminded of VHS tapes in way. But this was a DVD.
I’ll make a spoiler part but I’ll add the keep reading thing. Again I liked/loved it when I look back at it. But I’m gonna admit. I think my nostalgia may of clouded my mind a bit. But I think I’m being too judgey. Including I’m on Wikipedia....yeah there were some changes to the original novel. Such as Vandal’s name being Wolf in the novel....yet when watching it I had thought Wolf was his name....I was half right. But I still like what I watched.
I’m not gonna do this for any other Goosebumps episodes. But it depends on how I feel. It’s just I like this special. I think Grady is a nice leading protagonist. While I do feel a bit annoyed by his sister. Yet I could understand her being grossed out by living in a place like that. But man when I remembered it. It seemed long to me. But it’s pretty short. Yet not very short. Considering it’s two episodes into one.
I just wanna admit my favorite things about this special is the score/soundtrack. I’m not talking about the main theme of the show. It’s the music playing throughout the episode. The music adds to the scenes and mood. Especially at times it’s overall creepy.
Gonna admit I may sound stupid here. At some points the music reminded me of Resident Evil 2 or just the 90′s Resident Evil’s in general. Mainly 2 and 3 when I think back to them. I love those 90′s horror themes.
The other thing I loved is the lighting. The use of shadows. I will admit when watching it. It’s not like as perfect as I thought it was or it’s me being weird. But I will forever love the choice to not fully show off the werewolf in a lot of light.
While you do catch glimpses of it still. Such as one point a shot of the werewolf’s body color. But the lighting on it just makes it more scary looking. Including the first person shots while short work. Even though you do get to see the werewolf’s face at times. Again the lighting gives it this creepy feeling.
It’s also this idea I feel like the concept of hiding it may hide the flaws of the suit. Something I guess movies or whatever have done with costumes maybe.
I do wanna mention I’ll always love the shot of Grady walking into the swamp with a fire poker. Including the shot of the werewolf’s head fully covered in shadow but you see his head as he looks at Grady.
Again I do think my nostalgia kind of played with me. But I still genuinely liked it. That’s a thing with me and possibly with everyone else. When you think back to a kid remembering something. You view things differently. Besides the show was still strangely for kids. But this special worked for me. Possibly because I loved it since childhood. I rambled on too much I’ll get to the spoiler part.
Overall again I liked it. :)
So yeah....they did change some things from the story. Yet I have seen this with other episodes doing that or so. Such as Grady was with Emily when they meet the Hermit for the first time, the Hermit actually lives in the novel, Vandal is named Wolf like I said, Grady is clearly bit as well, Ed Warner and Cassie O’Rourke are cut out from the story. But yeah those are some I’ve detailed from Wikipedia.
Gonna admit if I recall from my younger years. I assumed and think tragically Will may of killed his own parents a long time ago before the story began. That’s just how I see it.
Also the ending....was that literally a dinosaur head? Considering Grady mentioned them early on. Yet I had this fucked up idea imagine if it was Will in his werewolf form? But that sounds stupid and the skull looks more dinosaur like.
You know I kind of wonder if I should see the twist ending as tragic considering Grady becomes a werewolf. They don’t show it in the show. But they implied it happens. In the novel and I remember reading that detail online that he and his dog on the hunt....makes me wonder if I should view that as tragic or....it’s not sweet or....shouldn’t say funny....hey if Grady only eats animals and if his dog can get him under control. Then he might be fine or so. XD

“No way. Inigo every single time.” Piper shook her head at Garcia as she tossed a popcorn kernel in her mouth.
“But Westley became a freaking bandit for Buttercup!”
“Yeah, and Inigo spends the rest of his childhood and young adulthood mastering the sword for his father,” Piper argued. “How is that not attractive?”
“Because Westley is cuter.” Garcia stomped and Piper was about to launch her popcorn kernel at Garcia’s eye when she spotted a dripping Emily in the elevator. “Hey, Em! Who’s your favourite from the Princess Bride, Inigo or Westley?” But Garcia garnered no response as Emily staggered towards her, slightly shivering.
“Did you get that file for Tommy Vee like I asked?” Emily’s voice tumbled out, shaking and shivering, and Piper instinctively pulled off her own knee-length coat, holding it out to Emily. But she ignored it, reaching for the file instead. Piper faltered, tucking her coat over her arm. “Is Hotch still here?”
“I’m pretty sure he lives here…” Penelope trailed off as Emily pushed past between them. “What’s up with her?”
“Dunno. Guess she doesn’t want to talk about it yet,” Piper commented as Penelope pushed forward to the elevator. Piper stared at the door Emily went through until Penelope called out her name. “JJ’s coming back tomorrow right?”
“Yep. I’m thinking lasagne to celebrate her first day back.”
“Great idea.” The elevator doors closed as Emily tumbled her way to Hotch’s office, numb to the bone. But that wasn’t because of the rain.
“I just found out that... An old friend of mine died.” Emily fought the tears threatening to spill over the brink of her eyelashes.
“I'm sorry. Do you need to take some time?”
“Um... There's a chance that he could have been murdered, and there might be a second case.”
“What do you need?”
“Just some leeway to check it out.”
“Of course. Anything.”
“Thank you,”
“Emily, if you want to take a few days and let us look into it...” Hotch offered, taking a step towards his battered agent.
“Matthew was...incredibly messed up, and I hadn't seen him in a long time, but he was important to me,” Emily explained, though there was no need.
“At least let us help.” Emily nodded as she sniffled and left the office after thanking him.
Somehow, she managed to stumble home, eyes fluttering closed as her head hit the pillow. She woke up early later that morning, dragging herself into the shower. As the water pounded her skin, she closed her eyes and there he was, bright as day. Before the drugs. Before the alcohol. Holding hands high, glee-stricken faces. Hot water melded with tears as they streamed down Emily’s face.
Emily thought she’d be the first one at the office, except she saw Piper doing paperwork at her desk. “Piper, it’s 7 am.” Without looking up or halting her pen, Piper gave her some excuse that Emily saw right through.
“Fine. I was worried about you.”
“I—” Before Emily could respond, Hotch appeared from his office, telling Emily the M.E. was ready to see her and Piper grabbed her grey winter coat, wrapping it around the pale turtleneck she was already wearing as well as her bike keys.
“C’mon. You can explain when we get there. I don’t have a spare helmet though.” Piper’s bike was liberating as it weaved through traffic, wind whipping Emily’s charcoal hair into a frenzy. They skidded to a stop outside the morgue and Emily unhooked her leg from around the bike.
“Now I get how you’re the first at scenes,” Emily joked weakly as Piper shook out her hair.
“Trust me, helmet hair is not fun.” Piper said as she hooked an arm around Emily’s, striding into the morgue with her. As the examiner revealed Matthew Benton’s pale body, Emily choked, and Piper answered her cell. “Got it.”
“Is it possible someone could have induced the heart attack?” Emily managed to ask.
“The easiest way to stop the heart is an injection of potassium. I would have found traces.”
“There's no other way?”
“I suppose it's possible he could have been injected with epinephrine. It wouldn't register, because clinically, it's identical to the natural adrenalin in the body.”
“Did he have a medical history of cardiac problems?”
“No. The attack was induced by his prolonged abuse of drugs and methamphetamines.”
“Was he tied?” Emily lifted Matthew’s wrists gently, stomach sick.
“The wounds are superficial.”
“Anything else out of the ordinary?”
“He bled heavily from his nose, but with the damage to his septum, my guess is that it was prolonged abuse of cocaine or methamphetamine.”
“And what about the other autopsy,” Piper asked. “Thomas Valentine?” The ME nodded, turning to the next body.
“He died of dehydration. There were traces of prescription antipsychotics in his system. I understand from his family he had a history of mental illness.”
“So, his death was induced by the antipsychotics too?” The doctor nodded
“Piper.” Emily held up Thomas’s wrist.
“Considering the self-inflicted wounds and the history of mental illness, the police didn't suspect foul play.”
“So, you have 2 bodies with ligature marks – each superficial. But you just dismiss them?” Emily confronted the examiner
“There's no medical reason to connect these deaths,” the ME defended herself. Nervous by Emily’s undiplomatic outbursts, Piper excused them, and they walked out into the rain. Before Emily could hook her leg around the bike, Piper tugged at her arm.
“Hey, we’ll find out who did this.” Emily’s shoulder sagged.
“You believe me?” Piper’s stomach dropped at the desperation in Emily’s voice as rain dripped down her coat.
“Always.” Piper shot Emily a soft smile as she donned her helmet and they drove back to the office.
While JJ fixed Piper and Emily a hot cup of coffee, the others filed in, filling in Piper, Emily and JJ. Thomas Valentine was a schizophrenic who was married but lived alone. Spencer and Derek described how his wife took the kids away to protect them and how he was cursing God. Rossi and Hotch filled them in on Mrs Benton’s firm belief that Matthew was possessed, and Emily scoffed at that.
“Matthew had a thing about challenging the church. He could push it. When we were in high school, his mom and dad consulted a priest because they were afraid that he was possessed.” Derek pointed out that Mrs Valentine had suggested the same thing and both houses had scuff marks under the beds.
“Well, drug addiction and schizophrenia are the most common conditions to be misconceived as possession.” Piper spoke rationally, trying to fit things together. “Plus, both had conditions that could induce their deaths what with both having consistent levels of drugs in their system. Could the unsub have known these conditions?” The question wasn’t directed towards anyone in particular and Penelope’s rush into the room pushed it to the side.
“So, both Thomas Valentine and Matthew Benton were in Galicia, Spain over the same week 4 months ago.”
“That mean anything to you?”
“Yeah.” Piper stood up. “Galicia is one of the biggest Christian pilgrimage sites in the world and the cathedral is absolutely breathtaking.” Spencer noticed the gleam in Piper’s eyes. “Actually, it’s been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since the 90’s.” Derek threw his hands up and took a seat.
“So what, we think these are exorcisms?”
“It could be.” Piper leaned on the mahogany table, challenging Derek.
“Look, I know the Bible just as well as anyone, but I also know there's nothing more open to behavioural interpretation than religion.”
“Meaning what?”
“I think it's dangerous for us to wanna find a connection between these deaths.” Piper nodded slowly and straightened.
“Spencer, to the best of your knowledge, what are the main causes of heart attacks?”
“Complete or partial blockage of the coronary artery, age, high blood pressure, high triglyceride levels, obesity, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, family history of heart attacks, lack of physical activity, stress, illicit drug use, a history of preeclampsia, an autoimmune condition…”
“And apart from drugs, how many of those apply to both our victims?”
“Well, really it’s just drugs and stress.”
“Right, Emily?” Emily hummed as she sipped her coffee. “How long had Matthew been using?”
“Since we were about 16. Why?”
“Right, so if Matthew is almost 30, he’s been using for at most 15 years, wouldn’t there have been a sign before now?” They were all silent, staring at her, then Derek. “Guys, my math skills aren’t that bad.” Spencer shrugged, muttering that calling them skills was a bit of a stretch. She resisted the urge to slap him with a hardcover, mainly because the only thing in her hand was a cup of coffee. “What about silent killers, things you can’t see in a medical exam?”
“Chronic stress, maybe,” Reid suggested.
“Guys, don’t you think this is a stretch? I mean seriously, stress?”
“When stress is excessive, it can contribute to everything from hypertension, to ulcers to irritable bowel syndrome,” Spencer said.
“What could the guy be that stressed about?” Tired from Derek’s negativity, Emily slammed down two pictures of Thomas and Matthew’s wrists.
“Maybe he was stressed about a guy holding him down, trying to banish the devil out of him.” Emily stared him down until JJ squeezed her arm and soothed her back into her seat.
“Guys, look, I'm willing to say that we might have an unsub who ritualises killings as if they were exorcisms, maybe, but right now, we don't even know if we have a crime yet.” But before Piper or Emily could retaliate, Rossi intervened.
“Derek’s right. We need to step back. Let me talk to someone before I have us all telling ghost stories.” Piper downed the last dregs of her coffee while Rossi left to brave the pounding rain outside. Emily stormed out quietly, refusing to make eye contact with the team. Piper and Spencer tramped downstairs to their desks.
“You really think this is a serial killer?”
“I don’t know, Spence. All I know is that if it is, there’s someone out there who’s gonna kill again. I don’t want to take that chance.”
^-^
Rossi pulled up in front of his church, the largest congregation in his area, and closed the door behind him before he took the marble steps two at a time, careful not to slip. He shoved open the large double doors to the church, walking across to catch a familiar priest cleaning the altar.
“Hey, stranger,” the priest greeted Dave.
“I know. It's been too long.”
“So maybe after we speak, you'll let me take your confession?”
“Gonna strong-arm me?” The priest laughed.
“You bet. So, how can I help you?”
“What do you know about exorcisms?” Jimmy raised an eyebrow as he sat down in the first pew to answer the question.
“Well, they're, uh- they're controversial. The Vatican issued a new exorcism rite in 1999, so nobody speaks out against it, but if pressed, not every priest believes in demonic possessions.”
“Do you?”
“Let me put it this way. You believe that evil exists.”
“I've seen it.”
“So, if children are born innocent, at what point does evil enter them?”
“How common are exorcisms?”
“Conservatively, I’d say 400 or 500 a year.”
“Has anyone died in one?”
“What's this about, Davey?”
“I'm looking into the deaths of 2 men. Both were troubled. Each recently had made the same pilgrimage to Galicia, Spain. Each died within the last 2 weeks.”
“And why do you suspect exorcism?”
“Well, it's just a theory. One of our agents knew one of the men. She was afraid there might be some foul play.”
“You agree?”
“Would you know if one took place here in DC?”
“If it's sanctioned, probably.”
“If not?”
“Well, then it's not a true exorcism.”
“Thanks, Jimmy.” As Rossi turned his back, the priest raised his arm, first to God, then to the Father and finally the Holy Spirit, praying for his friend’s soul.
As Rossi returned from his trip, Piper jumped up to retrieve him. “Garcia got a call, 38-year-old white male found dead in his bed by his fiancée,” she told him as they rushed up to Hotch’s cabin. “Patrick Cavanaugh was in Galicia, Spain at the same time as Thomas and Matthew.” Rossi opened the door to Hotch’s office as Piper finished. “Reid, Prentiss and Morgan already left to see the scene.” Piper returned to her desk, resuming her leftover paperwork.
^-^
Derek walked behind Emily and Spencer as they trudged through the brief respite from the rain up to the Cavanaugh household. They flashed their badges to the officer standing guard outside the house. “What can you tell us?”
“Uh, white male, been dead for hours. Medics think it was a brain aneurysm.”
“You mind if we take a look at the scene?”
“Knock yourselves out.” The three agents walked into the room and Spencer noticed the scratches under the bedposts.
“This is kind of starting to freak me out a little bit.”
“Let's figure out if we have a crime before we start freaking out.”
“Obviously we have a crime.”
“Prentiss, how does an unsub induce an aneurysm?”
“Uh, could be caused by stress,” Spencer intervened.
“Yeah, like if you were restrained on a bed while someone tried to banish the devil from their body.”
“All I’m saying is I think we should go easy,” Derek spoke as Mrs Cavanaugh entered the room.
“Can I help you?” Her voice was meek and yet reverberated around the room. Being the closest to her, Derek held out his badge. “FBI? What are you doing here?”
“We’re investigating a series of unexpected deaths,” Reid provided from the back of the room.
“I don’t understand.” Sidelining any empathy that she could have held for the recent widow, Emily started interrogating her.
“Was Patrick acting erratically recently?”
“He had a brain condition. He was getting headaches, wasn't acting like himself.”
“Were you aware of a trip he took recently to Galicia, Spain? Uh, there's a church there called Santiago de Compostela we think he may have visited.” Emily stepped closer to the young widow.
“My fiancé travelled a lot for work. I don't know everywhere he went.”
“With all due respect, ma'am, I don't think you're telling us the truth.”
“Excuse me?”
“Did you believe Patrick was possessed?”
“I'd like some privacy, please?”
“Was someone trying to rid him of demons? Is that how he died?”
“No.”
“You really believe he had a brain condition?” Derek stepped in between, urging Emily to stop and motioning for her to leave before apologising to the young lady for Emily’s behaviour. But apparently, Hotch had already heard about the incident as the three found him waiting in front of the elevators.
“What happened?”
“I think there may be a third victim,” Emily maintained as professionally as possible.
“Is that what you think?” Hotch turned to Derek who glanced at Emily quickly before inputting.
“I don't know.”
“Uh, we have ligature marks, the Spain connection, and scuff marks under the bed.” Emily attempted to salvage the case as it fell apart at the seams.
“Hotch, it's weird, definitely, but there's no way to physically connect dehydration, a heart attack, and an aneurism.” Hotch sighed and Derek asked him if everything was okay.
“We've had a complaint. JJ 's trying to smooth it over with the DC police, but we haven't been invited in on the case.” Hotch uncrossed his arms, face neutral as always and Spencer followed his boss into the bullpen. Derek made to follow too, stopped only by Emily’s voice.
“Hey, that's how you have my back?”
“Prentiss, I'm trying to protect you.” Derek held his hands up.
“I don't need protection,” she spat.
“Hotch just said he got a complaint, and he didn't come down on you. You realize that? You just dodged a bullet. We have to approach this just like we do any other case.”
“Meaning what?” She narrowed her eyes at him, daring him to continue.
“Grief can make us wanna believe there's a reason for things when there's not.”
“That woman couldn't even use Patrick's name. She could only say, "my fiancé," because she's convinced something else died in that room that night.” She pushed past him, deliberately digging her shoulder against him, as she walked into the bullpen. As she poured coffee, Spencer recounted the earlier events to Piper.
“Yikes. Is Em okay?”
“I don’t know. She’s convinced there’s an unsub.”
“You don’t think so.”
“It doesn’t matter,” Spencer said as he sat at his desk. “It’s out of my hands.”
“Yeah, I heard there was a complaint.” Piper unclipped her hair, scooping it into a ponytail as she watched Emily glare at Derek over her cup. “Also, Garcia found something.” Piper rolled her chair closer to Spencer, leaning in as she spoke. “Turns out there was a blog posting by Matthew to create a support group for people who felt betrayed by their faith.”
“That explains how they all met.”
“That’s what I said. But it gets better.” Piper slurped at her tea. “And by better, I mean worse. The week the 3 of them were in Spain, the services at Santiago de Compostela were cancelled when the priest there died of, and get this, a heart attack. And,” she emphasised. “If you listen to the conspiracy chatter, there is a strong belief he was killed to interrupt services during the height of the pilgrimage. Their best guess is some kind of gas, sarin or VX, something that wouldn't show up in an autopsy. But it could be anything that would induce stress, cause a heart attack.”
“Then we have a motive. And a potential MO, An eye for an eye.”
“That’s what I said.” Piper’s eyes widened. “But Hotch can’t authorise an investigation.” She leaned back in her chair.
“Wait, but why’d you say that so secretively? Everyone knows, right?”
“Yeah. I’ve just always wanted to do that.” Piper beamed, spinning her chair before skidding over to her own desk. After a few minutes, Emily walked over, shrugging off her coat and getting down to get some work done. Piper looked up to see an attractive man walk up to Emily’s desk and she embraced him quickly. She couldn’t quite make out their hushed conversation but saw Rossi approach them and the two agents left to ‘grab coffee’.
^-^
“You know, there are nicer places to take a girl to coffee.” Emily stood outside the ruins of a burnt down house and Rossi snorted.
“You ever watch The Exorcist?”
“Yeah. Piper hated it.” Rossi nodded.
“The real case started right here. The fire department actually burned down the house themselves. The authorities referred to the boy as Robbie Doe. He's still in the DC area today.”
“Why did you bring me here?”
“Whole lot of effort went into destroying the house of a kid who probably had onset schizophrenia or Tourette’s syndrome.”
“I'm not following you.”
“You're sure he was murdered. So, what's the story?” Emily sighed. “If you, uh, don't wanna explain, that's fine, but if you do, I'm all in.”
“Matthew knew the Bible inside and out, and he started to question everything.”
“Why?”
“We moved around a lot when I was a kid, 'cause of my mom's postings,” Emily said, pawing at the ground with her foot. “It was hard to get accepted, and when you're 15, that's all you want. You'll do almost anything.”
“You got pregnant,” Rossi inferred, and Emily nodded. “Was Matthew the—”
“No. I couldn’t tell my mom and I didn’t know what to do.” Emily’s voice cracked. “Matthew suggested I go see a priest. He said that if I had an abortion, I wasn't welcome in his congregation.”
“What’d you do?”
“Matthew found a doctor. He took me there. He stayed with me. That Sunday when we got back to Rome, he held my hand and walked me into the church. Father Gamino actually stopped his sermon, but Matthew told me to hold my head up, and we walked to the front pew.”
“What happened?”
“He and Matthew just stared at each other. It was like a battle of wills, and-- and then suddenly Father Gamino went back to his sermon. Matthew saved my life. He made me feel like i was worthy of... Love and friendship. But that's when his anger and questioning started. Then the drugs. His parents saw it all and assumed he was possessed by something evil.” Emily exhaled, looking at the overcast sky to avoid eye contact with Rossi. “It’s my fault…that Matthew’s life unravelled. Rossi watched her blink away tears before he continued.
“Garcia uncovered some information. It's possible Matthew and the others killed someone in Spain.”
“No. I don't believe that.”
“I'm just saying if we keep pushing, you have to be prepared for what we might discover.”
“I need Matthew to rest in peace. I owe him that.”
“Then let's go give a profile.” Rossi moved towards the SUV they rolled in.
“The-the police haven't invited us in.”
“The police aren't gonna do us any good on this one, anyway.”
^-^
Piper was perched on the podium, tightening her small ponytail over her dark cardigan as she watched the group of priests. Spencer stood in an adjacent corner, leaning his back against the wall as Rossi delivered the profile in front of their audience. “We are not here to examine your beliefs in demonology or exorcism, but we are operating on the theory that the person responsible for these deaths does believe. We believe the inciting incident was the death of Father Raul del Toro in Galicia, Spain, 4 months ago.”
“Th-there's an element who believes that the death was actually a murder.” Emily shoved her hands in her pockets.
“The man we’re looking for is probably a priest with a psychotic break,” Piper continued. “He may be under the delusion that he is working for God, would be obsessed with the event in Galicia.”
“He believes he's fighting evil and may very well have followed these men here to Washington,” Spencer finished Piper’s sentence. “We believe that one of the exorcisms took place over enough days for the victim to die of dehydration.”
“Uh, if I may,” David’s priest raised his hand, saying, “An exorcism is like a prize fight. It's completely draining, both physically and spiritually. Now, if this man truly performed 3 rituals within the last few weeks, he would need medical care.”
“Is there somewhere he would go to convalesce?”
“Um, anything less than a working hospital would be too dangerous.” Spencer met Piper’s eyes and she jumped off her perch, following him outside as he dialled Garcia.
“Garcia, it's Reid.”
“Speak, boy wonder.”
“I need you to run Catholic hospital records. Look for any admissions for exhaustion immediately following Patrick Cavanaugh's death. You got it?”
“You know I do.”
“Alright, now run the same search for the days immediately following the first 2 deaths.”
“Oh, I sense a cross-check in my future.”
“Do you have anything?”
“One hit- Father Paul Silvano. Currently at St. Agatha's hospital on 214.” Piper’s forehead unwrinkled and she sprinted down the halls of the church to Rossi, flinging the door open, announcing 3 magical words.
“We got him.”
^-^
“What do you mean he has diplomatic immunity?” Emily slammed a hand on Hotch’s desk.
“Exactly that. Emily, he’s protected by the Italian government. My hands are tied."
“Hotch, he killed three people.”
“There’s no proof.”
“He admitted he was there at each crime scene, that he performed an exorcism on him.” As the fight continued, Spencer gazed intently into the window from his desk.
“What do you think is happening?”
“Auntie Em and Dad are fighting again,” Piper answered as she scribbled the last word on her file, finally completing the week’s paperwork.
“I can see that. I mean, what do you think is gonna happen?”
“The regular. Hotch doesn’t listen to anyone except Rossi so hopefully he can sort this one out. Emily will storm out in 3… 2… 1…” Spencer watched her slam the door behind her as Rossi continued the argument with Hotch, sighing. JJ walked over, leaning her back on Emily’s desk.
“Can we deport him?”
“I doubt it,” Spencer sighed, leaning back in his chair.
“It's crazy. Diplomatic immunity wasn't intended to shield people from murder charges,” Piper complained as she stacked her finished paperwork.
“So Hotch bypasses the state department,” JJ suggested, “goes straight to the Italian Consulate.”
“And loses his career,” Spencer snorted. “The state department won't risk the potential embarrassment. They'll shut us all down.”
“Well, there's some realpolitik for you,” Piper puffed. “So, what do we do now?”
“Did you check his papers with ICE?” Spencer turned to JJ.
“Yeah. His diplomatic status runs till the end of the month.” Piper stood up, starting to pace.
“Okay, let’s go back to the profile. He's a believer.” Piper juggled a stress ball in her hands. “He deals in certainties. In his mind, he has a job to do. Which doesn't end until the end of the month.” Spencer stood up.
“There's another victim on his list.” As the realisation dawned on her, Piper jumped up onto Spencer’s desk before leaping over the partition, sprinting up to Hotch’s office. Spencer just blinked at where Piper had stood merely seconds ago. “That’s starting to get annoying.” Rossi then stormed out to catch Emily by the elevator and they went for another ‘drive.’
They drove to the Benton household where Mrs Benton recognised Emily perfectly, greeting her snidely. “We know Matthew died during an exorcism by Father Paul Silvano. He's performed 3 in the last few weeks. Each subject has died. We believe he's planning another one.”
“That's none of our business.”
“Matthew's gone. You've accepted that. At least let us warn the last family so they know what kind of choice they're facing.” Emily’s pleading met silence. “This isn't about me. This is about other families and the people they love.” Mrs Benton just sighed and walked back inside, leaving the door open for them to come in.
“Father Paul didn't kill Matthew.” Mr Benton was perched next to his wife on the arm of her chair.
“Why are you so willing to accept that? I- I'm just trying to find the truth about how your son died,” Emily pleaded with them from the opposite chair.
“Then listen to me. Father Paul never laid a hand on Matthew.”
‘How do you know that?”
“Because it was me.” He looked ashamed as he stared at his worn leather shoes. “I held him down, I sanctioned the exorcism.”
“I was there.”
“You stood there and watched Matthew die?”
“He wasn't the person you knew.”
“Because Father Paul said that?”
“Something horrible happened on that trip to Spain.”
“You believe that because Father Paul said it. You can't think for yourself?”
“Young lady, do not speak to me like that.”
“How could you allow him to perform a ritual over Matthew?”
“I loved my son.”
“Then you knew how Matthew was. You knew how paranoid he could be.”
“I was trying to save his life.” Emily stood up in frustration at Mr Benton.
“That priest must have done something. Matthew's heart wouldn't have just given out.”
“That thing killed Matthew! It was inside him for years. I know you know that's true.”
“No. Matthew was a sweet boy. He was just troubled.”
“He was never troubled until he met you,” Mrs Benton murmured loud enough for Emily to hear and she recoiled.
“Look, Father Paul explained that Matthew was a conduit. If you opened yourself up to him, you were putting yourself in danger of being taken over.”
“Was anyone with him in Spain or in DC?”
“No-one. He didn’t see anyone when he came back,” Matthew’s father explained.
“No, that's not true. I - I know for a fact he saw our friend John Cooley. His parents worked with my mother at the embassy in Rome. You called him to tell him Matthew had died.”
“I haven't spoken with John Cooley in over 20 years, not since you were kids in Italy.”
^-^
While Rossi went to smooth things over with Hotch, Emily went to John’s apartment, meeting Derek there. Derek flanked Emily as they stormed the apartment. Emily raised her gun, rushing to protect John as Derek dragged Father Paul away. Once outside, Emily freed John while Derek cuffed Paul. Carefully, Emily guided her old friend to the ambulance though his complaints of being fine. Before he left, he murmured something to Emily. “I'm sorry I wasn't there for you. In Italy.” Emily just smiled, rubbing his arm gently before pushing him gently to the ambulance. She rubbed her own arm as the ambulance doors closed and drove away. Piper stood next to Emily.
“You saved him.” Emily nodded. “If you want to crash over at my place, we can watch old movies together,” Piper offered as Hotch approached. She squeezed Emily’s shoulder gently before leaving them.
“If you want my gun and badge, I understand.”
“There’s no need. The Vatican intervened.” Morgan dragged Father Paul over to them. “There's a plane ticket in your name to Rome. Agent Morgan and I will drive you to the airport. Any of your belongings can be shipped to you.”
“You have no right to deport me.”
“The Italian government has rescinded your diplomatic status. They'll do with you as they see fit when you're back in their jurisdiction.” Hotch motioned for the SUV. But as they left, the father called over his shoulder.
“You’ve made the world a more dangerous place. May God’s love be with you.”
“And with you,” she spat back. Rossi, Piper and Spencer joined her and Derek
“I saw that guy up there. He was certain he was fighting against some kind of evil,” Derek murmured to the group as the snow glistened on his shoulders.
“We all have to be certain,” Rossi remarked as he watched the priest leave with Hotch.
“Rossi, don't tell me you believe in evil.”
“Don't tell me you do this job and you don't.”
“I believe there are evil acts, but those are choices, brain chemistry,” Derek explained. “What do you think, Pipes?”
“There’s no evil in the world. Every feeling, every emotion has its justification. For him, it was his beliefs. I think it’s easy for us to dismiss someone or something as evil.” Piper puffed; her breath smoky. Morgan nodded thoughtfully before Hotch called him. One by one, they all left to their own SUVs. Piper looked over to Emily, who stared thoughtfully into the snow, one tear rolling down her cheek. Piper draped an arm over her shoulder. “C’mon, let’s get you home.” Piper drove Emily carefully to her own apartment, letting her in gently. Emily couldn’t help smiling as Penelope held a hot bowl of soup.
“It’s chicken noodle.” Garcia beamed at Emily who took it, smiling softly at the soup. “Also, the movie choices are Sweet Home Alabama, Pretty Woman or Titanic.”
“I don’t know, I should—”
“How about just a quiet night in? Tell me you still made that lasagne.” Emily sat on Piper’s maroon couch, slurping at her chicken noodle soup as Piper and Penelope fought over how to cut lasagne.
“It’s not pie, Piper! You don’t cut it into triangles.”
“But it’s fun!” Emily giggled despite herself and Piper glanced over, smiling softly as she walked over, wrapping Emily in a throw when the doorbell rang. Piper opened the door for JJ who carried little Henry in one arm and a bottle of champagne in the other. Piper held Henry in her arms as JJ walked over to Penelope. The four girls sat on the floor, slurping soup, drinking champagne and eating lasagne. Emily smiled, finally feeling at home.
