So Kira is trying to mediate the complicated relationship between the traumatised squad and this new captain no one knows shit about (including the other captains), AND he has to deal with his right-hand man Kibune, an obvious threat to Kira's position, on top of dealing with his own trust issues.

Amagai is nice enough mostly, but takes no real interest in Kira as a person. He can't drink alcohol for a start (not good when your lieutenant is an alcoholic) and then he first names Izuru out of nowhere giving the poor guy a fucking Gin Ichimaru PTSD flashback. Like they just don't gel well together.

As the episodes go on, Kira can feel himself being pushed out by the more charismatic and confident Kibune. The squad members start to like the new training techniques and how Kibune energises them. Kira can see it happening, but he can't stop it, because frankly that is too much effort, and they'd probably be better off without him anyway. No one will do more for squad 3 than him, but he won't do anything for himself. If him leaving is better for the squad, he'll do it.

When he's drinking with Iba and Yumichika he expresses his worries and Iba just laughs and says 'haha he sounds great, he'll probably replace you'. LIKE, YEAH, HE KNOWS, and hearing it out loud just confirms his anxieties. Thanks guys 🥲

So Kira steps back from training and leaves Kibune and Amagai to it, tending to the paperwork mostly.

Kibune calls him out on this behaviour and asks why he's always in the office. He then praises Kira for running the squad so well on his own, and Kira is like '.....Ummm not rlly' and Kibune asks why he lacks confidence so bad LMAO AND KIRA JUST NEVER ANSWERS. There is a LONG pause and then there's an a warning siren calling them away.

Also the way that everyone, Including izuru himself is like yeah, Izuru should never be captain . It just doesn't suit him.
