as siwoo enters the old world casino, he cannot help but think that this is probably not one of his brightest ideas. he doesn't belong in places like this, nor has he been to them very much, but curiosity rises in his chest at the idea of the mysterious man he met a couple of weeks ago, and that convinces him to stay. plus, he has a tupperware filled with pastries in his bag, the nicer-looking ones that he handpicked, which would be such a shame to waste, considering they are still lukewarm. as he enters the ridiculously tall building, he cannot help but wonder how the hell is he even going to find pakorn in here? finding a needle in a haystack would be easier than this — there are over three hundred floors, and the reception itself is so insanely crowded he keeps getting annoyed stares for standing in one place for too long. after yet another annoyed stare, he moves forward with a deep breath and — to his luck ( and much to his confusion ), when he utters pakorn's name... he's let inside? somehow, the receptionist also knows exactly where pakorn is. before siwoo can contemplate on the implications of this whole ordeal, he is ushered further into the building — though they ask him to leave his bag and his coat at the checkroom due to security reasons. after a ridiculously fast elevator ride ( if he could, he'd ask the schematics ), the operator of the elevator gestures forward for him to move. siwoo does out of obligation, but the flashy lights blind his eyes, the noise of the machines making his movements more urgent as he looks around, trying to spot the other. and much to his surprise and joy — he does, sitting at one of the poker tables in the middle. "pakorn! hey —" siwoo lets out with glee, slipping into the chair next to him, mesmerized by the chips and the speed at which the other plays.

before you begin your first lesson of the day, you are asked by a staff member to head to head manager kim hyuncheol’s office. you are not told the reason why, but when you enter the room, he is sitting behind his desk with a smile, and he is not alone. next to him stands none other than dbsd’s bae siwoo, greeting you with a warm expression. “please take a seat, don’t be nervous! you didn’t do anything wrong.” hyuncheol tries to reassure you.

“we first wanted to thank you for your participation last season. although you didn’t win the solo song, we believe you improved your skills a lot and would be curious to see if you would grow even more if you were to… let’s say… return this season?” his smile is cryptic. “what do i mean, you might want to ask? well, it’s quite simple. i won’t go into details as to not spoil next season’s events, but we are inviting last season’s contestants to join again for the next one. you will have a certain role to play, one you will learn about soon. it goes to say that as a ‘veteran’, your salary as a contestant will be doubled from last season, going from 500 000 won to 1 000 000 won a week …”

oh and before you leave, there’s something we want to show you. but you keep this between the three of us.” after revealing the well-kept secret, hyuncheol and siwoo wish you a good day and you go back to your practice.

it’s taken everything in danbi to not give up. three years of training have led to what … this? failure? disappointment?

so when she’s shuffled into the room, heartlessly fiddling with her fingers and avoiding eye contact at all costs, she can’t help the internal sigh as the two seniors speak to her. is this supposed to be some kind of hope? her inevitable arc of redemption?

but when is enough finally enough? the definition of insanity is repeating the same thing over and over again, with the vain hope of achieving a different outcome—doesn’t this classify as insanity? people her age are graduating from college, joining the workforce, actually doing something with their lives, but danbi?

she’s a twenty-three year old, hopelessly stuck in the naive mind of a child.

so as she’s sat there, lifelessly staring off at the blank wall in front of her—fluorescent lights shining down on her face, body shivering every once in a while from the blasting a/c—she wonders. the money tempts her because, after all this time, what little work experience does she have to make up for lost time? to repay her parents, her friends—everyone who’s supported in this godforsaken dream.

she bites down on her lower lip, bearing down at the threat of blood, and she has to mentally remind herself not to cry. don’t cry.

and yet, ironically, when she’s finally dismissed from the room, that’s the first thing she rushes to the bathroom to do. cry.

endless stream of tears as her back finds the cool surface of the stall door behind her, her legs losing all strength as she sinks lower and lower. her hands are shaking, unsure of where to position herself, as her chest heaves up and down. her throat is sore, both from her anguished moans and from her unconsciously forcing herself to be quiet—the pain, it’s agonizing. she can physically feel her face stretch with every frown, her nose grows drier with every sniffle. 

it would’ve hurt less if they had just simply told her this was the end.

but instead, they don’t—instead, they give her this false sense of security with this second chance, so they say. a ‘veteran’ with nothing to show for it, a leader who feels lost at the frontline.

so she cries, until she can’t anymore. until her eyes sting with redness, until her body slumps with exhaustion. and she sits there, on the bathroom floor, counting the tiles in her head until she pulls herself up, puts herself back together, and wanders back into the staff members’ office.

i’ll do it, she says, much to everyone’s surprise—with her words clearly not matching her disheveled appearance. i’ll join.

because what else does she know better to do? because, hell, what else does she have to lose?

MECHANICS!

here are the groups for save the citizen. after plotting with your group, you can go about this event any way you want; you can plan the fight and write solos where the same things happen from different points of view, or you can write a thread/threads the ol’ fashioned way. though everyone’s name is listed here, you are not required to write for this event, but at the very least, plot with your groupmates! in the event that someone in your group is inactive or unresponsive to plotting, you are free to proceed without them and headcanon their actions after 48 hours of waiting for a response.

HOW IT WORKS! the match’s heroes and villains are announced through the speaker, their faces appearing on the screen. the players, wearing sleek black long-sleeved uniform jumpsuits that are designed to act like armor, are escorted into the arena, then the doors are closed. minute one: the game starts. the referee, a professor or staff member sitting on an elevated platform on one side of the field, blows the whistle and the mannequin chants “save me! save me!” heroes and villains are free to start going about the match any way they want. they can use their powers however they want. (of course, the referee will issue warnings or stop the match if things escalate too much.) minute two: the mannequin drops two feet closer to the incinerator and chants “save me! save me!” minute three: the mannequin drops two feet closer to the incinerator and chants “save me! save me!”  the game ends when the heroes save the citizen at any point in the game, or when the citizen is incinerated after minute three. it is also possible for the game to end if the judge stops it on account of someone being seriously injured. a whistle is blown to signal the end of the game. the referee announces whether heroes or villains won. the players are escorted out, then the field is prepared for the next match.

WHO WINS? either the group or the main blog can determine the winner of the match. if you want to decide among yourselves, reply to this post with your group and your selected winner (ex. GROUP B, HEROES WIN). if you want the main blog to decide for you, reply to this post with your group and ‘undecided’ (ex. GROUP A, UNDECIDED). if you choose to do this, the main will contact a member of your group and tell them who wins so you can plot accordingly. ONLY ONE MEMBER PER GROUP SHOULD COMMENT!

THE FOOL: represents beginnings, leap of faith, spontaneity, innocence

the wastelands are his home, the barren land, the nothingness. they live off of scraps and the overwhelming heat seeps into their bones. despite it all, as the youngest, he is the lucky one, naively unaware that he gets the bigger portions, the nicer books they find here and there. gets to sleep safe and sound when many like him fear if they will make it through the day.

he grows accustomed to the comfort; grows gentle and hopeful in the face of the horrid reality they live in. the broken machines his father brings home from work are his toys, and the younger boy grows around bits and pieces of broken technology, an empty battery there, a radio that only lets out static here, he learns how they work and how to make them work. despite the heat, the hunger, and the danger looming on the horizon, the wastelands become his home.

he's almost twelve when they lose their parents. at one point he cannot believe he thought it used to be difficult before. he's still lucky, he reminds himself, he's not alone, and with his brother next to him, siwoo feels nothing but safe, regardless of the peril that looms outside their car, regardless of the sounds he has to shield his ears from at the middle of the night. they take shifts, he learns how to shoot before he learns how to ride a bike — but it's fine, he's fine, he will be fine. as he looks into his brother's eyes and feels the warmth, he is convinced they aren't alone, they'll never be alone, as long as they have each other.

siwoo doesn't know how much time they spend in that purgatory. there is no difference between day and night, today and tomorrow. all of his thoughts morph into something akin to pure survival, they need to watch their backs, scavenge for food — survive, just survive, be better than the rest so that they can just exist. it wears down on siwoo's soul quick, quicker than it would have if he were a better man, he's sure.

when the offer comes from stoneage, it is almost too good to be true ( foolish boy, it certainly is ). — but siwoo, ever the optimist, is convinced it's the turn in their life they were looking for. future is coming, it's here, it's bionic, and the fact that they are asking siwoo, the odd boy from the wastelands to be a part of it, is a once in a lifetime chance he simply cannot turn down. he jumps for the opportunity, yet the only thing that makes him falter is that daniel's not coming. he convinces himself that it's the right thing to do, that finally, with this, he will go into the city, become his own person, and finally be strong enough to protect daniel instead after all these years. it will be fine, it will, it has to be.

at the industries, pinnacle of technology, where they write the future together, he's good at what he does, and he loves it. he has his hands on technology he never could have dreamed of back at the wastelands. as part of the initial offer, he was one of the first people on the project, and years down the line, when their hard work is coming finally into fruition, siwoo feels part of it more than ever. this is his home now, the city, with its ups and downs, he plants his flowers in the soil with careful hands and treats them with gentle care. it's home — he has made it so.

The Mentor: the person who recruited him when he was in the wastelands, saw his potential with technology, and most of all, his desperation to have a better life!! the dynamics are up to interpretation but! i am hcing at this point that someone from the stoneage industries is the reason why he got murdered (which he Does not know, there is a gap in his memory and he still thinks he's human). after seeing something he shouldn't have (he was either going to leave the company or they think he might have whistleblown) he was put into his replicant body, his memories were already part of stoneage database since he was voluntarily testing for them for so long. — so the mentor would either have a hand in all of this, or at least know about it!

TRCNG is a group that debuted on October 10, 2017 under TS Entertainment. Their name, TRCNG (some pronounce it as 'tracing', but apparently, it is supposed to be T-R-C-N-G; lately, a few members have been shortening "ti-al-si-en-ji" to "tyalssenji" ) is an acronym for Teen Rising Champions in a New Generation. They were first announced in mid August with a photo of ten silhouettes with the caption "TS ENT NEW GENERATION". A video about the group was released on TSENT2008 as well. The following members are in the order of youngest to oldest. Their first mini album is called "New Generation" and the title track is "Spectrum".

in the chaos of the city that is new york, siwoo enjoys finding nooks and crannies of peace in unexpected locations. where every single chain coffee shop has a queue up front, there are still some places where finding a space to sit is not a challenge, and the coffee itself is heavenly. this is one of those cafés, and with his hand curled around a porcelain coffee cup, siwoo is content reading his book, his attention pried away every once in a while when a new patron comes inside, the telltale sound of a bell ringing above the door. it is an instance just like that when a stranger enters the café, and while siwoo would not look up again in normal circumstances, something seems off about him, an air of tension that makes siwoo's gaze linger. for good reason it seems, because the next second, he can see the way his augmentation flickers, expression morphing to one of pain, hand steadying himself on the counter as if trying not to fall. it doesn't take siwoo a second longer to jump to his feet, and he makes his way to him in a few strifes, hand reaching out but not touching just yet, not without permission. "sir- are you alright? what's wrong?"

it isn't often that siwoo has anything to do with the government — he'd say he is a pretty law-abiding citizen, he pays his taxes on time, he doesn't bother his neighbors, makes sure to park his car in the allotted parking spaces, and so on, so on. hence, all those years ago, the first time fbi had an investigation that was related to stoneage and they needed his help, he was a little... nervous about it. however, what came out of it was not only the case closed and shut with good results, but also a very nice friendship. since then, there have been a few times here again that aranya and siwoo met on official business ( they needed intel from the stoneage, stoneage assigned him ) — but mostly they hung out as friends every once in a while instead. moments of sharing drinks at a coffee shop, trying out a new restaurant that opened downtown, texting her about a book siwoo was sure she would like. which is why now, when he sees her on the ground floor of the company, the scientist automatically assumes it's for a case, although he'd much prefer to try out the new matcha on the street with her instead. "aranya! how have you been?" a wide smile spreads across his face, and he rushes towards her at the sight. "what brings you hear? is it official business?"

honestly, siwoo can't say he is a huge fan of these psychological assessments he has to go through every month. a part of him understands, and rationalizes it without much difficulty: he is in a decent higher position within the company, enough to know a fair deal of confidential information, working on one of the projects that he thinks will change the course of human history. those are the facts, siwoo gets it — but the other part of his brain, one that has makes decisions through survival instincts, despises it greatly. the idea of sitting there, talking about what he feels and how he thinks about his life is... difficult. usually, the time passes decently quickly, before they can delve into his past, into what he keeps close to his chest, into what he only remembers through nightmares in the middle of the night — into the wastelands. yet, the mere fear that they might do just that fills him with apprehension. if all of that wasn't enough, it's going to be a new psychologist this time, one he has not met before, and siwoo hardly knows what to expect — — before he can further spiral into that line of thought, his name is called at the end of the corridor, and he stands, long legs taking him there quicker than he would have liked. it's going to be fine — he reminds himself as he pushes open the door and just — no— .... what ? īⱦ ȼⱥꞥ'ⱦ ƀē, īⱦ ȼⱥꞥ'ⱦ ƀē ħīᵯ ? a brief white light flashes through his eyes, and he has to hold onto the doorframe in order to stand straight. those warm eyes that are now crinkled with age at the corners are unmistakable, and siwoo is sure all of this has to be a dream. "you — you're not —" he utters, imagining that if he blinks just once more, the mirage will disappear.
