Note
for bo & valentine: do you have any piercings or tattoos? or any that you would want?
Tumblr media
bo turner currently has one tattoo, and one piercing. he has a small heart tattoo ( drawn by ian vogt ) on his left butt cheek, which he got shortly after turning eighteen - unbeknownst to the artist, his partner at the time, and strongly hated by the partners he had after ian ( who he's thankfully back together with again, and for good ). he also has his right nipple pierced; he went in with the intent of getting both pierced, but the pain of the first piercing was enough to scare him out of it. he'd definitely be interested in getting other tattoos and piercings in the future, but he's in no hurry to do so.
Tumblr media
valentine ortiz currently has no tattoos or piercings. he doesn't think that he would ever get a tattoo, because as much as he likes them on other people, even only thinking about what he could potentially ink on his body forever has him feeling far too anxious. perhaps this will change in the future, but for the time being, valentine is content with bare skin. piercings on the other hand are something that he's been thinking about more and more lately. he really wants to get his ears pierced, but his anxious nature has him in no hurry to go ahead and go through with it.

But this it -- does Tucker like Trump's policies, any policies of his? What's the deal with you and Donald Trump? TUCKER CARLSON (GUEST): Oh, let's see. I spent four years defending his policies and I -- I'm going to defend them again tonight. And actually, and I'm pretty straight forward, I'm -- I love Trump. Like, as a person, I think Trump is funny and insightful. And and I said this to Trump when he called me, you know, all wounded about those texts. That was a moment in time where I was absolutely infuriated. And I think this is in the text -- and those were all grabbed completely illegitimately, in my opinion, in this court case, which I guess I'm not allowed to talk about, but I'm enraged that my private texts were pulled." *** The largest online progressive news show in the world. Yo FYI, if you're a survivor of sexual assault, I recommend avoiding PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN. The first 2/3rds of it are fine but the ending felt like a slap in the face. It had painful memories come flooding back without a single bit of hope, resolution, or catharsis to pay for it.
I recommend instead buying Chanel Miller's book Know My Name. The movie is largely inspired by her, and her path to recovery after she was sexually assaulted by Brock Turner.
The few pieces of insight I appreciated in the movie came 100% from Chanel anyways. There are cool needledrops and Carrey and Bo deliver nice performances but don't buy into the hype... it's #girlboss cinema and commodified trauma at the end of the day, and I strongly urge actual survivors to stay away.

Mini Stuff of Good: 2019 2nd Quarter
Tumblr media
We’re doing a lightning round of anything up to this point, no holds barred! 3. 2.. 1...
One Punch Man 2
The story certainly made up the utter downgrade of its animation. If anything, I’d seriously stick with the manga if we’re talking good spectacle. (Grade: C+)
Care Bears: Unlock the Magic
I can say this is Turner’s answer to Hasbro’s My Little Pony, Friendship is Magic. The look of it is a plus and the episodes are on the same level of quality as MLP, but I had my doubts that this would get the same level of traction, especially since it’s Boomerang. It’s not bad, just not much to write home about. (Grade: C)
Uglydolls
An upbeat movie that I say didn’t deserve the disdain it received. Like yeah, it’s pretty by the numbers, but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t entertaining in the slightest, and surprisingly heavy in its racial undertones if you’d believe me. (Grade: B-)
Avengers Endgame
Was certainly conclusive and fun, but inferior compared to Infinity War, especially when it unfortunately has to undo everything that happened in that movie. Not as many good memes from this as the interchangeable Thanos snap meme. (Grade: B)
Tuca & Bertie
Honestly a fun series that makes its cancellation just depressing to hear. The duo themselves made every episode enjoyable and while I wish certain plot points could’ve been better, the overall story arc with our MC’s friendship was very investing. In the least, the season ended on a good, optimistic note. (Grade: A-)
Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart
Essentially the Adventures of Puss in Boots, anime edition. Not to say that’s a bad thing, because there are plenty of differences, but come on, the similarities between the two leads and the premise are eeriely similar. As such, it gets the same grade (Grade: B+)
Shazam
A DC comic book movie that actually tries to be a comic book movie. Bonus points for the director being one that mostly made horror movies. (Grade: A-)
Scooby Doo and Guess Who?
Scooby Doo and self humor doesn’t sit well with me since the fun came in taking its campy nature straightfaced while having some good sitcom laughs, i.e. Monsters Unleashed, Mystery Incorporated, or Be Cool, Scooby Doo. The celebrity guests are almost always a highlight, but they also admittedly take away from the characters we’re meant to see. (Grade: B-)
Archer 1999
Finally, a season of Archer that has everyone together doing space adventures, and it’s not the final season! (Grade: B+)
Dick Pikachu
Lovely to look at, not so much in remembering it. It has the same grade I gave the game it’s based on. (Grade: C+)
Gokushufudou: The Way of the House Husband
The most perfect yakuza based slice of life comic around. (Grade: S)
Burning Effect
I honestly haven’t seen a webcomic that went this hard before. It’s like Bakugo from My Hero Academia went into every character design and impacting visual, with a story and premise that gradually makes sense the more you carry on and a female lead that is a upcoming warrior in every sense. (Grade: A)
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power
There’s a Youtube channel that reviews this show episode by episode and I found them more insightful and entertaining than this series. A shame since I like the original She-Ra and I was hoping for a good series about princesses fighting. But this series was slog to get through and it doesn’t help that my attachment to most of the characters has fizzled out. Season 3 certainly picked things up, but it shouldn’t have took this long to pick things up. (Grade: C+)
The Secret Life of Pets 2
Just as good as the first one, if not better, which I bet many who reviewed this will probably say otherwise. The scene near the end is honestly cemented in my mind, it just worked. (Grade: B-)
SMG4, The Anime Arc
This definitely fun. A middling 1st half, but things definitely pick up in the 2nd half. There are some contrivances and conveniences, but man was that the most engaged I’ve ever been with this Youtube series overall. (Grade: B+)
Aladdin (2019)
Oh wow, another remake that pales in comparison to the original. A takeaway from all this is Disney needs to hire directors that aren’t boring. (Grade: D+)
MIB: International
Oh wow, it’s Jurassic World: Men In Black edition with two great actors that are heavily underutilized in it. Where’s Taika when you need him? (Grade: C-)
Lion King (2019)
Oh wow, a remake that doesn’t understand why the original worked. This here was honestly the final straw for me as I am distancing myself from these remakes because unless one actually looks and feels appealing, my sensible bias towards them will never change. I feel annoyed that I DON’T know what people see in these. (Grade: ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!)
DC Super Hero Girls
Honestly what I wanted Nu She-Ra to be, better animated, better characterized, and reminds me of the new Ninja Turtles series with how it is setting things up. As a DC fan, I am more than impressed. (Grade: A)
X-Men, Dark Phoenix
They honestly weren’t trying and this movie resulted in me getting Ligma. (Grade: D+)
Our Cartoon President
We had our laughs a couple years ago, but let’s be real. Trump is a dried up meme and there was no reason for a 2nd season of this. (Grade: F+)
Final Space
Season 2 has its hits and misses but I am very much enjoying this series still. The latest episode deep down made me wish it didn’t try to make things drama heavy for the previous episodes, like it’s trying to recapture the sharp turn that was season one’s episode six. Needless to say, they’re certainly keeping the momentum going for this series and I’m all for it. (Grade: B+)
Aero (Comic series)
Imagine if Nejire from My Hero Academia was a Marvel superhero. The dialogue and writing is generic and simple, but you not only get a nice grasp of our heroine but this is one of the first anime looking Marvel comics that looks incredible. This really stood out at my comic shop and I am very intrigued to see more of this character and this artwork. (Grade: B)
Infinity Train
Very compelling, nicely visualized, and the 10 episode work to a good strength of pacing. Though I will be honest, One-One wasn’t a character that stood out to me, I dunno, I felt distant towards him compared to the other characters. But I enjoyed this no doubt and I’m glad there is more to come. (Grade: ???)
Twelve Forever
This is one of those rare shows where I’ll gladly say it’s good but not entertaining. As much as I enjoy randomness every now and then, I felt bored watching it. The Butt Witch was the saving grace, immediately being my favorite character, but she wasn’t enough to make me keep going. I’ll give it a good grade tho with the effort they put into everything. (Grade: B)
Rocko’s Modern Life, Static Cling
I already reviewed this before, but I honestly considered this a great comeback to a very nostalgic and influential show. (Grade: A)
Meta Runner
A new series with surprisingly good pacing and a empathetically great main character. The dialogue can be give and take, with a villain that’s honestly too evil for his own good, but I can’t help but say that this is an engaging series. And it’s youtube sooo bonus. (Grade: B+)
Amphibia
A series that definitely got better as it went along. I like the episodes that had good ties to the season’s climax, the main four are especially the highlight with their personalities, and the character growth felt natural if on the nose sometimes. I’m stoked for part 2,,, hopefully they schedule it better. (Grade: A-)
Angry Birds 2
It was fun. Probably forgettable to many, but I won’t deny that it’s one of the better popcorn flics of the Summer (Grade: B+)
Toy Story 4
I grown tired of people questioning whether or not this movie was pointless, so I’ll come out the gate to say that this is the best movie of the Summer so far. It was a more solemn movie that was organically thoughtful with itself, there were plenty of laughs, I loved Bo Peep, and the way they handled the antagonist is something that rocked the franchise’s themes to the core sensibly. This film makes for one of the few times a fourth sequel can actually come out great. (Grade: A)
T I M E’S U P ! ! ! ! ! !
Welp, looks like the spring and summer have indeed strengthened itself for the better. Can the latter half of 2019 keep the momentum as we reach the new decade? Stay tuned.

We are delighted to be bringing another monster batch of Irish films to London for the festival. We had a lot of fun selecting the line-up this year. There was a marvellously rich source to draw from and we were spoilt for choice.
I’m particularly looking forward to having a festival hub, at Regent Street Cinema this year, where we will spend 3 of our 5 day’s and screen the majority of our programme. London is a big city, so it’s great to be able to offer our guests and audience somewhere where there will always be a friendly Irish welcome, and plenty of film chat!
I’m also very proud to have such a strong line up of women on our female focus panel, because of whom it is sure to be inspirational and insightful. These women are at the forefront of the industry and their successes are a testament to the ambition and exceptional talent among Irish female filmmakers. ✧ bo turner insight 02/?? ✧ in which bo finds himself fortunate enough to celebrate ian’s birthday for the first time since he survived his attack, and for the first time since they’ve become fiances.  ✧ heavily featuring ian vogt, briefly featuring romy davies, dolly jensen, lou ryder and orwell washington. ✧ cw ; neglect, parental issues ( brief mentions ).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it’s not unknown to most people in bo’s life that october fifth is his absolute favourite day of each year that passes . while some people prefer their own birthday , or perhaps christmas , or new years eve or halloween ( which does happen to be a close second for bo ) , there’s no question in bo’s mind that october fifth takes the number one position for him . this day hasn’t always been perfect , in fact , years earlier this day happened to be one of the very worst that bo has ever lived through , but now that the two men are engaged , bo wears a shining reminder on his left hand every second of every day , the ring acting as a reminder of many things , including the fact that he’s fortunate enough to get to look forward to this day every single year for the rest of his life .
this year , bo has been looking forward to this day arguably more than usual . this is ian’s twenty-fifth birthday , but more importantly , this is ian’s first birthday as his fiance . each time bo thinks of the fact , he feels nervous butterflies filling his stomach , making him feel like how he used to when they were so young and trying their hardest to navigate their relationship in secret . back then , every time ian looked his way , bo felt his cheeks deepening with a blush , and it’s not so different now . bo is the most comfortable with ian , more comfortable than a human should be around another , perhaps , but ian still evokes those feelings of pure , wholehearted love inside of bo , and bo is always elated over the thought of having a day designated to explicitly repaying ian for all of the happiness , satisfaction and love that he provides his fiance .
for bo , the entire concept of gift giving is so heavily associated with ian ; every week , if not every day , ian has something new to gift bo , whether that’s a hearty , home cooked meal or a little present he found on his way home from the gas station or from work . even before the two were together romantically , ian has always expressed his fondness through the act of giving gifts - at least , that’s always how bo has seen it , as even if the truth behind ian’s nature is the fact that he tries to buy his friendships , or give his friends reason to stick around , that’s never how bo has personally taken the acts of kindness . bo would have always been ian’s friend , and later his partner , even if the man never gave him a single thing , but in that reality , bo would have been so unfamiliar with presents and kindness expressed through a gift .
everyone who knows the turners knows that they mistreated their son , though most choose to ignore the fact as it’s uncomfortable , or as they see bo still functioning and assume that they couldn’t have been that bad to him . it’s also something that most like to overlook as bo grew up with privilege a lot of others didn’t , having access to turner money , but the money couldn’t replace the love that his life lacked , and the money only served as harsher reminders of how little his parents cared for him as they couldn’t even use their excess of it to buy their son a gift for a birthday , or for christmas , or to celebrate his run as the lead in the school musical or the wins he consistently got in track or on the swim team . bo was consistently let down by his parents , and he’d like to say that he moved past that , but even so many years after realising his situation of neglect , bo is still hurt by them . it’s likely that ian’s presence in his life from so young saved him from spiralling due to the unfortunate circumstances of his upbringing .
in every aspect that the turners failed their son , ian was able to provide bo with what he needed . he still does it to this day , even , being the one to love bo in a way that makes him feel like he’s loved by every person in the entire world , that’s how strong the feeling is . ian has always been family to bo , far more than the turners ever could be , and that’s a thought that’s been lingering in bo’s mind since the start of september . bo is so excited , to say the very least , to know that he is one step closer to becoming ian’s family in a legal sense , one step closer to becoming his husband . bo is one step closer to being able to forget the turner name , and that occasion is going to be the most important to ever occur in his life . robert vogt really does have a much better ring to it , he’s been thinking about it since he was at the youngest fourteen years old .
it’s for this reason that bo was so insistent on getting help to craft ian’s birthday present . the vision for the treasure chest came to bo so vividly when it came time to work on the birthday preparations , and he immediately knew he needed someone a little more skilled to help him execute the plan . he’s lucky that his dungeon master is not only handy , but the owner of the furniture store downtown - the perfect place with all of the materials needed to execute the vision . the last treasure chest the couple owned was also bo-crafted , but bo supposed that the last one broke for a reason , that reason being that he is in no way at the level of carpenter as romy , or even ian , though of course he can’t let his partner into the plans and in a position of helping him when they’re meant to be top secret ( though admittedly , ian has to suspect the most each october fifth , knowing how much bo loves the day ) .
the most important detail that bo was insistent on getting help with to ensure it’s perfection is the exact detail his eyes are fixed on as he sits in his partner’s lap , on the couch where they’ve made it tradition to open gifts upon . “ our name , ” he told ian at the time he noticed the detail of the surname ‘ vogt ’ burnt into the dark wood on the back of the chest . “ well i mean , not yet , technically , but you know . when we’re married it’ll be our name , and i guess i ... i guess i’ve always been a bit of a vogt , you know ? even way back . ” he laughed as he rambled on for a beat , though he was only laughing to try to avoid a teary display . he wonders now , as they sit there after ian’s pulled out each and every one of the - always excessive amount of - gifts that were stored inside of the large chest , if ian really understands how important it is to bo that he will one day be a vogt .
ian knows bo’s complex family situation better than anyone else , with perhaps only dolly jensen being close to understanding what really went down in the turner house from her position of watching it all unfold from next door , but bo still wonders if ian will ever be able to understand just how much he means to him . bo isn’t so good with words , not unless they’re scripted for him and he’s telling one of his friends like lou or orwell as they play his opposite on stage , but he would like to think that ian understands . he might not ever be able to express how deep and complex his feelings are for the other man with the use of words , but as he looks around their living room , he’s sure everything they’ve built there together is a reflection of their feelings . even the gifts from today that surround them should work as expressions of everything ian is to him , bo thinks .
he gifts ian clothes ; each article fits his body perfectly and are exactly his style . he gifts ian a framed pencil drawing ; though he has no photograph of the scene in which he was proposed , he’s later replicated it in his drawing almost perfectly . he gifts ian a metal spatula with a red , plastic handle ; in the months since stinky chewed and destroyed their last spatula , bo hasn’t always responded to ian’s complaints about the way the substitute , entirely metal spatula’s handle heats up when he cooks , but he clearly has listened and has remembered the exact utensil that he himself never even uses in order to replace it , after all of this time . he gifts ian a small stack of lewd photographs ; in each photo he somehow manages to get his engagement ring in perfect focus . he gifts ian a silver necklace ; the pendent is almost identical to one ian lost in lake love at sixteen years old , which is recollection even more impressive than with the spatula . he gifts ian a ‘ what to do in denver ’ magazine ; they’ve been to denver before , but as he knows ian isn’t as spontaneous as he himself is , he spots the magazine in a new chapter and thinks ian might like to read it to prepare .
there’s more that just those gifts . the gifts seem endless . the chest seems bottomless . bo thinks of himself as dumb , but in each and every one of the gifts such thought , intelligence and love is poured into the story of why he purchased or created it for his partner - and as usual , he’s spent the morning telling each and every one of those stories to the only person in the whole world who has always cared to listen to bo’s overwhelming amount of speech . he might not be able to write his own monologue for why he loves ian so , nothing that might compare to the likes of romeo and juliet , but as every gift is pulled out an original monologue falls from the tip of his tongue so naturally , so passionately . his language might be more colouful than romeo’s , but maybe that’s why ian fell for bo all that time ago . of course ian knows that bo loves him . of course ian knows just how much he means to him , and just how excited bo is to have finally upgraded to the title of a fiance . it’s silly for bo to have wondered otherwise , and the revelation makes bo happier than ever .
shrike heights has always been filled with horror . bo’s parents , ian’s bullies , ian’s grandmother , bo’s ex partners , mayor sweeney and the likes of him , and of course now the killers . shrike heights is a scary place . but for bo , shrike heights is the only place he can ever see as being his home . with about twenty years of building a life with ian in the town , no amount of masked perpetrators can scare bo away , it seems , and no amount of traumatic events that have happened to bo in the past can ruin his happiness on this day , it seems . he wants to jump higher than the clouds , he wants to run all the way up to the mountains , he wants to scream with the force and longevity of one hundred full sets of lungs , he wants to combust right there in the lap of his loved one . the joy bo feels is so intense . on the inside , he’s still so hurt from all that has happened to him , but surrounding the pain is the happiness that ian consistently works on making him feel , and it’s the happiness that protects bo from it all .
what bo ever did to get so lucky to be able to feel this good even in shrike heights , he doesn’t know , but he thanks the god that he never even believed in when he tagged along with ian to church as kids for the blessing that is ian in his life each and every day . maybe things are really looking up this time . for good .

when was the last time your character/s cried?
Tumblr media
akito noguchi has been crying himself to sleep every night for a very long time now, so it would have been last night. ever since trouble began for him in shrike heights, when his life was once again so horrifically changed, his emotions have easily gotten the better of him. he doesn't like his sister or his friends to see him cry, so he tries to keep his composure until he's alone, until he's in bed at the end of each night.
Tumblr media
bo turner has a lot of reasons to cry, some understandably terrible, and some quite beautiful, as he's been known to so easily cry tears of joy or laughter. the most recent cause for tears were likely tears of laughter, likely as recent as a day ago, in ian and stinky's company. with everything they've been through - even the cat, who was found so cruelly abandoned before he became a turner-vogt - bo likes to just be silly. he loves to bring joy into their household, and unashamedly finds himself so funny at times that he does indeed cry laughing over himself.
Tumblr media
desi calderon tries his hardest to not get so upset over things, though now more than ever he's also come to terms with the fact that emotions are healthy. as much as he doesn't like to cry, he does cry more frequently these days, particularly in the evenings after a long, frustrating, physically exerting shift at work, the tears aided by thoughts of deo and bodhi and everyone else he's not been able to save - that would have been the last time he cried, in a moment like that.
Tumblr media
dodge anand understands that experiencing and feeling every emotion is healthy, particularly at the appropriate times. he's not afraid to cry, though despite this, it doesn't happen an awful lot. the last time dodge cried would have been in the aftermath of the last attack, in the ominous quiet moment that occurs after he and the rest of the hospital staff worked tirelessly to ensure all of their new patients were going to survive the night.
Tumblr media
duckie ho would have not been able to recall the last time that he cried if he was asked this question six months ago, but the moment he had in the hospital where he not only cried, but cried in front of hoseok still bothers him. he hates to be vulnerable, and even while hoseok has never done anything to make duckie feel like he couldn't trust him, duckie still hates that he was rendered weak and vulnerable enough to cry then.
Tumblr media
eilonwy finch is a frequent crier, she's likely crying right now. while she was able to recover from the aftermath of her own attack, a time in which she couldn't find herself able to stop crying, the past six months have been incredibly difficult for her, and she's back to her extremely fragile state. the bright side is that this time around, she has the strength of her closest friends behind her, and she's not a blubbering mess as much as she once was, despite the regression.
Tumblr media
ernest goodarzi hates to cry, but ever since his encounter with the ghost he's found himself in tears almost every single day. even on his good days, where he gets to spend time with his best friend august, he'll come out of their time spent together in tears as the beauty that saves him from thinking about his trauma terrifies him almost as much as the killers do. like eilonwy, he's likely crying right now.
Tumblr media
hedwig blackwood cries plenty due to his struggles and his trauma - both from the killers and his life before shrike heights - mostly in his own company, but the last time he cried was actually at a chokehold on love rehearsal. the only person outside of the band in attendance was donnie, and their front man finn found himself unable to finish the love song they were playing as he got too in his own head about his love for his soon to be husband. while hedwig laughed a lot, there were also tears shed. hedwig has always wanted to believe in love, but honestly, nothing outside of that moment has made a very strong case towards true love being, well, true.
Tumblr media
hen wen szeto often finds themself walking around shrike heights after dark, no matter how idiotic some people might think them to be. in the day time, they don't feel comfortable with all of the eyes on them - and the ugly scar left behind on their face - and while they're not not afraid of the killers finding them again, they need to get out or else they'll be driven insane. the last time they cried was on last night's walk; their feet instinctively took them to their old apartment building, and when they thought about all of the joy they had in there with people like her brother, and galen, and the rest of those that she knew when life was temporarily so much more simple, they got all choked up about it.
Tumblr media
iggy berman last cried around a week ago, when they got in an argument with their brother. it wasn't even about what arne had said or done, nothing to do with the circumstances in which they fought, it was simply frustration over the fact that they were fighting. iggy loves his brother more than anything; having been apart from him once before, and for quite a while at that, iggy immediately felt terrified of their relationship being anything less than perfect. he couldn't lose arne again, and while one argument is hardly the start of that, iggy cried regardless, feeling particularly sensitive that day.
Tumblr media
jovie weaver isn't afraid of crying because she's upset, but the last time she cried was actually a couple of mornings ago, when she injured herself while swimming. thankfully it was nothing too bad, but while she was pushing herself to beat a personal best, she neglected to breathe when she needed to, and came up for air, coughing after inhaling a small amount of pool water. while trying to ground herself with the side of the pool, her hand slipped, and she hit her head on the side of it. it was painful and overwhelming enough to see her in tears, though she did recover quite quickly.
Tumblr media
junior viana carneiro, similarly to jovie, last cried over an injury. junior is another resident of shrike heights who cries frequently, but thankfully it was over no mental pain or reminders of trauma, only an accident in the kitchen. while preparing his dinner, his hand slipped, and he cut his forearm open with a large - and unfortunately sharp - kitchen knife. he cried over fear, as he was alone and unsure of what to do, but a quick trip to perkin's and a few stitches later saw him back in reasonable spirits.
Tumblr media
jupiter bernstein last cried out of frustration on a phone call with his mother, this morning. she always calls him in the evening her time, which is quite early in the morning in colorado; overtired and bothered by a few things that his mother had said, they got into an argument that ended in jupiter hanging up, in tears. once he was more awake and had a hot cup of tea in hand, he called her back and apologised (there are no hard feelings).
Tumblr media
leaf wozniak woke up crying this morning, coming out of an extremely terrifying and disgustingly vivid nightmare, detailing a sicker, more warped version of the attack he had only just lived through. it happens almost every morning, though if it's not leaf waking up in tears, it's florian. luckily, the two have learnt how to best manage their upset and their pain, dealing with it all together, and with the help of the commune. each night leaf goes to sleep with hopes that the next morning will be different, though that's yet to happen.
Tumblr media
valentine ortiz last cried a couple of days ago, through a panic attack at work. the store was extremely busy, causing valentine to try to push himself, ignoring merry's alerts along with his own discomfort, but very quickly the rush became too much, and he spiralled quickly into a panic attack. as he sat in the office, bawling his eyes out and waiting for his partner to come to his aid, valentine began wondering if it was smart to continue working at an establishment as bright and bustling as the environment in which he was attacked.

What's Bo's top 3 favorite bands?
Tumblr media
this is an incredibly difficult question to answer. bo likes a lot of bands, and while he can definitely be obsessive when it comes to the artists / celebrities he likes, he's more of an 'i love that song' kind of guy, rather than a 'this is my favourite band' one. he's more of an enjoyer of songs than he is a die-hard fan of a band, is more what i mean, especially because he's completely content with ian dictating the music they listen to at home ( as much as he takes control of the radio when they're in the car ), and his friends dictating the music they listen to while he's out. with that being said, however, if he were to be asked this question right now, he'd likely answer with sparks ( because he loves their uniqueness and their silliness ), the muppets ( yes, really, because they're an incredible group and puppets have a special place in his heart ), and chokehold on love ( because bo is a loyal friend, and they are quite good ).

✧ bo turner insight 01/?? ✧ in which bo struggles mentally due to his attack, his partner’s attack, and all of the past issues and upsets that these struggles worsen. ✧ cw ; trauma, mental health issues, injury, upset / distress, neglect, parental issues.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the weather is still cold but at least the sun is from time to time peeking out behind one of the many large clouds that coat the gray sky . early april isn’t yet bo’s ideal running temperature but he can’t fathom staying in his apartment for any longer as his thoughts grow heavy and his body grows restless . he doesn’t like leaving ian behind or out of sight but he knows he’s a hazard to the healing man if he allows any stray feeling to slip out around him ; it’s not the most comfortable situation , but bo’s not sure they’ll be familiar with true comfort any time in the near future . to ensure the two of them can continue to heal together bo knows it’s best for him to remove himself from ian’s space and burn excess energy in one of the only outlets that he’s found to help these big build ups of complicated emotions . he kisses ian’s face as he sleeps wearing a grumpy expression alluding to the fact that he’s in no hurry to wake , and then he’s on his way , out of the small basement apartment and onto the street where he runs as fast as his tired legs can take him , as fast as his burning lungs allow .
he runs at a steady pace that’s still fast enough to push his body in an attempt to rid his thoughts , but he doesn’t achieve his goal of a quieter , more pleasant mind yet , no matter how fast he flies down the street . his breathing is heavy yet still controlled ; his eyes sting and tear in the harsh wind . his vision is obscured slightly , but he doesn’t mind it , nor does he give it much thought . he’s been running this north-west route for so many years that he’s sure he’d be able to navigate himself from old shrike all the way up to the central business district even with his eyes closed .
it’s his first time out of his apartment properly as a twenty-five year old , running being the first activity he’s chosen to do outside of partaking in all of ian’s attempts at making his day a good one . his twenty-fifth birthday was perhaps his best yet , and he doesn’t dare forget how lucky he is to have ian treat him the way that he had the day prior , he just can’t seem to keep those nicer thoughts in the front of his mind as he struggles to fight back the pain that led him to the restless state he left the apartment to deal with . fresh on his mind are all of the reasons why he typically hates his birthday , but unlike in previous years they’re added to with all he deals with from his attack , and then all of the additions from ian’s . all of the pain he’s feeling and all of the pain he has ever felt are mixed together in bo’s mind until they blend into one horrible cloud of sadness that threatens to take over his entire being , much like the clouds in the sky that today threaten to keep the sun away from the shrike heights residents for good .
the vicious string of thoughts don’t budge from bo’s mind ; he can’t shake himself out of his head and despite his feet carrying him far away from his apartment he feels as though he’s still tied down by the sadness the two attack victims often find themselves swimming in down in that basement . he needs to get out of this state of mind . he pushes himself harder physically and he begins to run faster .
life is constantly and consistently changing for bo , now more than ever before in the past . every day there seems to be more challenges , more issues , more attacks and more trouble . there’s only one constant in bo’s life , there always has been only one constant ; ian . when bo was a little boy struggling with a lack of love due his parents’ failings , ian was there for him with more love to share than what bo thought there ever could be in the entire world . when bo was a pre-teen figuring out who he was , ian was beside him on the same journey , providing comfort and understanding in a way that only a best friend can . when bo was a teenager in desperate need of a place to stay that felt more like home than the sterile house his parents neglected to raise him in , ian’s bed was the warmest , most comfortable bed in shrike heights and bo was seemingly always welcomed into it . when bo was a young adult struggling to get out of a bad relationship , ian slept on his own couch so that bo could once again take that warm bed and feel safe , even after their own relationship had come to an end a couple of years earlier . when bo reached his mid twenties , ian was throwing him a celebration despite almost having his life taken from him only months prior .
bo gasps for air , his legs stopping so abruptly in the middle of the sidewalk to the point where he loses his footing and falls down to the ground , scraping his knees on the concrete until they’re both bloody . he continues gasping for air , and he realises now that the tears streaming down his face are more than just from the stinging of the wind as he runs through town at quite a speed . the physical pain doesn’t bother him as he continues to be so consumed by what’s happening inside of his head .
ian really has always been a constant in bo’s life , one that has provided him with the most meaningful friendship and the most special connection bo will ever have , no matter where his life goes from here . ian has saved him from so much , he’s helped him through almost anything he’s made to face , he’s provided bo with everything that others either don’t care to or simply can’t . almost losing this man has been detrimental and the added emotions from thinking about his parents and his upbringing , thinking about how ian was the one to get bo through all of that , it creates more fear and more sadness inside of bo than what he can handle . he sits on his knees in the street and he weeps , his face in his hands and his torso folded over his now bloody legs . he sits there like that for quite some time .
life is unfair , as it always has been , and bo is upset that it only grows more so instead of bo growing to find relief and a break from the pain that he has worked so hard to fight his entire life . he finally stands up and he wipes his face on the inside of the collar of his sweatshirt , then brushing small pieces of gravel out of his wounded knees . his run turns into a walk . bo’s done with running but he can’t return home yet , not in this state . he trusts ian with his heart but he can’t always trust him with every emotion he feels ; to burden ian with his ugly feelings would be inhumane , and while the reality of that is another unfair aspect of bo’s life it’s what he feels is right . he needs to cool down and get himself under control before he returns to wake his partner , and so he walks aimlessly as he tries with more desperation than he cares to admit .
it actually works , for a small amount of time . bo has exhausted himself as his initial goal was and as he walks an unthought about path , only staring at his feet , his mind quiets down and he begins feeling fatigue over most things . the method isn’t healthy , but bo is in no position to choose healthy options at present . he walks until sprinklers being turned on in the lawn beside him frighten him and cause him to look up and register his surroundings properly . his stomach drops and his already rapid heart rate increases . he stands in the street he grew up on . he can see his parents house from where he is and the sight draws back out all of the disgustingly confronting feelings he felt in the beginning of this run . morbid curiosity working hand in hand with self sabotage causes bo’s legs to continue walking until he finds himself out the front of the house he grew up in but could never quite call home .
this is where things started to go wrong in bo’s life , this is where the unfairness began once his parents realised they made a mistake having a child , and once his parents realised that bo wasn’t going to be the perfect child who would make their half of the relationship and their job as caregivers easier ( though bo isn’t sure they would have been able to parent a child even if they were perfect as they wished for ) . he stands out the front of their house and he soaks up all of the pain the turners have caused him to feel over the past twenty-five years . maybe if he had a better start with better parents , life wouldn’t continue to be so horrifically unfair ; maybe if his parents had remembered to love him he would have been much more well adjusted and better at both handling and avoiding hard times . maybe in the alternate universe where his parents were good people bo is in a better position and in turn able to care for and nurture ian through his trauma more effectively and seamlessly . maybe his parents are another reason for why ian’s life is so hard , too .
he wonders all of these things and more , so many tragically upsetting ‘ what ifs ’ playing through his mind , but then his ability to form a coherent thought seems to escape him and his brain seems to freeze completely . he catches sight of his father passing the front window downstairs and the longing for his parents love and affection wash over him in waves that almost knock him over once again ; hes unsteady on his feet as his emotions build up to be so overwhelming . it’s been years since bo has begun to move forward from his relationship - or lack thereof - with his parents , but april first seems to always bring back this upset . bo is the april fool for annually yearning for a relationship that never was and never will be . today is a brand new day yet he’s walked right into the trap that forces him to not go a single year without being dragged back down by the betrayal of the turners . he looks up to the large corner window on the right of the house and he sees his mother fixing her lipstick in the mirror she holds in front of the window , in what little natural light she can get from the shy sun in the sky . his heart breaks for the little boy who once lived here , the boy who craved lipstick marks on his cheeks from motherly kisses that he never received .
‘ why didn’t they love me ? ’ he thinks to himself , and his body begins to tremble as he cries and cries and cries . ‘ what did i do to deserve this ? ’ he asks himself , blaming himself as he always has , even after growing older and realising that the fault was in his parents and not the innocent child that deserved better . ‘ when will this ever start to feel easier ? ’ twenty-five years is a long time , yet for the entire duration bo has never found peace with the fact that his parents left so many scars on his mind and his heart . he doesn’t know why he still cares so much , especially when he knows clearer than day that his parents have moved on from even pretending to care about their child to save their reputations . this is the first time he’s seen his parents since he found out that they knew about his attack yet made no efforts to check in with him , and suddenly an intense anger ignites inside of him .
how dare they speak about - even think about - him after all they’ve neglected to do as parents and after everything they did wrong . how dare they talk about his attack with their friends when they haven’t even bothered to pick up the phone and ask him three simple words . “ are you okay ? ” he wishes them to ask ; he wouldn’t even bother them with the real answer , he only wishes for them to acknowledge him as a person and not as the child they’re ashamed to pass on the turner name to . he can’t wait to rid the last name that has followed him around like a bad smell all these years . he fought for their affection for so long , he played his part for longer than his pride would have him admit , and they have only ever continued to be two strangers he shares dna and a couple of physical attributes with . he’s so angry that their mistreatment has seemed to dictate the tone for the rest of his life and he can’t believe that they have the audacity to exist as normal as if their son didn’t almost die in a brutal attack that he is still so deeply changed by .
fury isn’t an expression worn by bo typically , but his anger takes over him quickly and with the ugliest look on his face he steps into their front garden , picking up a substantially sized rock from on top of the soil , and he throws it right through the window his father had passed moments ago . “ fuck you ! ” he screams as the rock makes contact with the window and shatters it , his voice breaking and reminding him that he’s still crying as he stands out there .
the act of what bo considers to be violence - though not physically directed at a person , only their belongings - scares bo more than he was expecting , and it in no way brings him the feeling of relief he was expecting from the release of his emotions . he’s not one to act out as he has , he’s not an aggressive person , but his emotions have today caused him to cross a line and the aftermath is uglier than his actions . his body feels paralysed with fear , but before his parents can look out of their windows to investigate his flight response kicks in and bo flees , running faster than earlier even as he’s desperate to make it back home undetected .
he does , despite fear following him the entire way , and on his journey he’s also left his tears behind . he’s breathless , sweaty , knees still bloody , and he’s worked up , but he’s no longer crying and again he has fatigue settling into his body to render him unable to overthink his big feelings any longer . he catches his breath on the staircase before he allows himself inside , and the second he lays eyes on ian he’s able to calm down even further .
maybe his parents never loved him , but at least one person did .

for the muse(s) of your choice: what does your muse consider their comfort zone, ie. safest place?
akito noguchi struggles to find somewhere where he feels completely comfortable, which has always been the case. typically it's wherever he can be where he knows momoko is safe and well.
bo turner would say his beloved basement apartment, where he is most comfortable in the company of ian vogt. though in all honesty, his comfort zone and safest place has always been wherever ian is.
carietta flowers has never had just one safe place, as it's wherever she can find herself behind her camera, with the lense pointed at something really incredible, something extremely beautiful.
conrad collins probably would never share this thought, though his safe place has always been in a classroom environment - a good one, with a supportive teacher, friends surrounding him and the chance to improve himself.
desi calderon would say shrike heights, as odd as that might seem during the current time. while he's not a shrike resident born and raised, this town has always been where he finds himself being most at home, and home is what makes him feel safe.
duckie ho is still working on finding that place, though currently the closest thing he has to a comfort zone or safe space would be in his apartment with his roommate and best friend winnie.
eilonwy finch made a conscious effort to make her apartment a safe space for herself, and it is there without a doubt. being able to lock herself in the room surrounded by pretty things and all of her favourite books makes her feel comforted and safe.
ernie goodarzi doesn't think he has a safe place, or anywhere where he feels especially comfortable. the closest he can get to that is wherever he can find himself as high as possible and as far away from others as possible.
junior viana carneiro will always consider his safe place to be his bedroom, a space where he lets no other people in ( unless they've gained his entire trust, which is not at all easy to do ). sitting in bed listening to his records will always make him feel best.
hen wen szeto is still working on finding a place like that again. it used to be wherever her brother was, or the home they lived in together, but she's been searching for some time since his death trying to find somewhere again.
leaf wozniak would consider the commune his safe space, but would quickly realise it's actually anywhere, as long as he's in his beloved van, the space feeling best when he's in the company of someone like orwell or ian or river.
leon barker deals with years of religious trauma, enough to make him feel uncomfortable anywhere, making him feel like he's being watched, being judged, and that something bad while come of it in the future. he doesn't have a safe space.
stevie dickinson has always and will always consider the shed out the back of his house to be his safest space. all of his best memories took place there, with his brother gabe and all of their friends. he will always cherish the space.
valentine ortiz would have once said that wherever his husband was is where he is safest and most comfortable. he assumed his place would be with his family after the loss of his husband, but after figuring that wasn't the case, he's still trying to find it.

Would Bo give up his relationship with Ian if in exchange he was given a strong bond with his parents?
he would think about it and the thoughts alone would nearly kill him. all bo has ever wanted was his parents to love him, for them to show they're interested in the things he does, for them to show they care, they support him, they're proud of him. he spent his entire childhood and a lot of his teens chasing after them, trying his best to cling on to the relationship that was hardly even a real relationship anywhere outside of his own head.
bo has always needed his parents and they have only ever let him down. he bought them tickets to every show he was in, to every individual performance, just in case they would come and see him. he presented them with meaningful gifts and poorly but thoughtfully written cards full of affection every birthday of theirs, despite their best efforts for his birthday being a short and cold greeting in plain card from birthdays 1 - 10 and no more. he went above and beyond for his parents every chance he got, during every moment he hoped they wouldn't send him away with comments of him being a disturbance or a burden, yet he never got any of the same energy in return.
he tried to earn his parents love harder than he has ever tried for anything else. he was young when he discovered the one time he would ever get even a glimpse of his parents affection was when he was injured or sick. after breaking his ankle while skiing, his father carried him down the mountain to their car, and his mother kissed his head while he cried in the backseat on the way to the emergency room. from that day onwards, bo was sure to be more reckless, was sure to let himself fall from trees, was sure to ride his bike over ramps much too intense, was sure to sit next to the sick kid in class hoping their germs spread. that was how much he wanted his parents affection, wanted their love, wanted them. so of course he would think about giving up ian if it meant he could have a strong bond with his parents as he had always wished for.
but then he would realise that he never really wanted his parents and that what he wanted was simply love, affection, support and someone who cared. in other words, what he wanted was simply everything ian had always provided him with - since kindergarten, essentially. while he worked hard to get his parents to attend his shows, ian already had his ticket, had already memorised juliet's lines as he ran through the script with bo, and he was already picking out the prettiest flowers to give bo after his performance. while his parents forgot all about bo every april 1st, ian was busy celebrating him not only on his birthday, but every single day. while his parents couldn't stand to listen to bo for more than a couple minutes at a time, ian was staying up with him real late, listening to him cover what felt like every subject a human could ever be capable of speaking about.
bo would never give up his relationship with ian for anything no matter how badly he once wanted it. why would he give up the truest love he had ever experienced for two people who had made it known a long time ago that they wanted nothing to do with him? it didn't make sense. sure, parents are supposed to be there for their children, but his weren't. he can never change that - that being clear after all of his attempts - and knowing that makes bo well aware that they don't deserve him giving up anything for them. they don't deserve him at all.

when was the last time your muse(s) cried?
akito noguchi has been crying frequently, more often than not, of course mostly because of momoko's attack on halloween. he cries himself to sleep most nights, scared and exhausted and upset, and that was probably the most recent time he cried.
bo turner still wakes often throughout the night, pulled from his slumber as his nightmares leave him in such distress that he can no longer even sleep through them. he often cries when he wakes, so that was probably the most recent time he cried.
carietta flowers can often redirect her emotions and save herself from crying when she's upset, though the recent attacks bring up a lot from inside her and they fill her with fear. the last time she cried was over the attack on halloween, when she found out the morning after.
conrad collins cries when he's experiencing any heightened emotion, and the last time he happened to cry was after a particularly exhausting shift at work. since the attack at shrike grocers ( and the loss of two co-workers ) he's been made to work more frequently, and oftentimes after his shifts - especially if it's late and he's tired - he'll cry just a little on his walk home.
desi calderon tells people that he doesn't cry, that he's never shed a tear, but of course that's not true. similarly to conrad, the last time desi cried was after a recent shift working. he was exhausted, overtired, stressed out to the max and perhaps he had one too many to drink at julio's before he made it home.
duckie ho is another shrike resident who pretends he's never cried - though he does, quite often, and sometimes for the worst reasons. the last time he cried was when he was caught shoplifting a week or so ago. he pretended it had slipped his mind because he was in such distress over the latest attack, and not only did they buy it, but they sent him on his way with the stolen goods free of charge.
eilonwy finch is probably crying right now. she's struggled to stop since she was so brutally attacked, no matter what she's doing or where she is. she frequents the storage room out the back of donna's to cry in, and often finds herself in the sections of a new chapter that rarely gets customers looking through them so she can cry without eyes on her.
ernie goodarzi couldn't tell you the last time he cried, as it doesn't happen often. perhaps it was in high school when he was seventeen and riddled with guilt over the fact that he was hurting his girlfriend by dating her despite knowing he was gay and that he was lying to her directly.
junior viana carneiro made a real fool of himself the last time he cried recently, despite the outcome of it being quite brilliant ( it being when he and silvio officially became boyfriends ). he cried over something silvio said, cried because he thought silvio would never feel the same way he felt for him, but really he had misread the situation completely.
hen wen szeto last cried on halloween - on her birthday. she hadn't expected anything from anyone, but has struggled considerably with her loneliness since her brother passed. chai was the only person to even acknowledge wen's birthday this year, and later that night wen cried over the kind gesture and the olive branch extended. she didn't deserve it, and was embarrassed to find how much it meant to her.
leaf wozniak tried to be the strong one, tried to provide comfort and help to his best friend ian after he worked himself beyond exhaustion taking care of bo after the second attack in shrike mall, but as soon as he had dropped ian back home leaf cried for hours over it all, and that was the last time he cried.
leon barker last cried when he found out about the latest attack, as similarly to carietta the attacks bring up a lot of conflicting and difficult feelings from inside of him. he wouldn't ever tell anyone just how frightened the killers make him feel, however, no matter how many times that fear makes him burst into tears.
stevie dickinson cried only a few nights ago while watching stand by me. it's a horrible habit he has, putting on the film that hits so close to home, but in times of great stress he finds it's easier for him to let his emotions out if he prompts them with the film. it's terribly sad, but still a favourite film of his.
valentine ortiz cried - despite his best efforts not to - most recently when he was having dinner cooked for him by jude. they bonded that night in ways they never had before, talking about their personal lives, and valentine couldn't help but shed a few tears over his late husband.

of your muses that have been attacked what do you think has changed the most about them in the aftermath?
akito noguchi has changed the most in how he allows others to view him. before the attack he was very insistent on appearing confident, calm, and capable, but the same can not be said for him now. of course, he still has good moments - mostly when he’s working, when he feels he must present capable and composed - but in general he’s honestly sort of a mess now. he never struggled to express his feelings or emotions before the attack, not even after other trauma he’s endured, but he has always been very particular when it comes to who he allows himself to be vulnerable around. now, since his attack - and even more after momoko’s second attack - he struggles to hold himself together and he is known to breakdown in front of even strangers.
bo turner has changed the most in terms of how he feels and expresses his emotions. growing up he was always made to feel terrible if he expressed a negative emotion, or if he was in a bad mood; because of that he learnt to either hide his negative emotions and bad feelings, or channel them into more positivity, high energy or productivity. it was always rather rare for bo to be emotionally vulnerable if the feelings weren’t good ones, but now he is much more open, much more expressive, and much more emotional. while it’s often hard as he’s so clearly in distress, learning this new level of emotional health hasn’t been all bad.
eilonwy finch has changed what she does in her day to day life more than anything else, despite her emotional state being quite different also. she has always been somewhat frightened, anxious and panicky, but that was something she dealt with and worked through for the most part throughout her life. she had gotten to a really comfortable point, but after the attack all of the anxieties, concerns and worries she used to battle came crashing back down onto her - only this time it was so much worse. while she used to go on walks, breathe in the fresh air of the mountains, see her friends in the plaza - and then the mall, eilonwy can hardly bring herself to leave her apartment to go to work.
junior viana carneiro doesn’t feel as though he’s changed. the attack was horrific, the hardest part being his best friend almost dying in front of his very eyes, but it’s not the worst of the trauma he’s endured and he hardly feels any different. he was always a very frightened, easily scared, anxious person, so the threat of the killers has made him feel just the same as he would typically. in an odd way, however, perhaps in the aftermath of the attack he has been changed for the best. it was in bonding with silvio over their shared trauma that they got especially close, and junior is easily the happiest he has ever been now that he’s in a committed relationship with the man. with that being said, junior of course still struggles with what happened to him, but things feel endlessly better with the support of silvio.
hen wen szeto was fortunate enough to only have the quickest encounter with the jack-o-lantern killer, even while it was still terrifying and injury inducing. she hasn’t changed all that much in all honesty, she’s just unable to hide how she feels more often. while she would have previously known to choose her battles wisely, there is no more choosing; if someone irks her, or even happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, hen wen will absolutely unleash her anger upon them - though it’s never physical, she’s not violent like that. hen wen is so unbelievably angry. she was angry before the attack too, but now it is so much worse.
valentine ortiz has never been so frightened or so dependent in his life, that is definitely what has changed the most in him since his attack. he’s always relied on the people he surrounds himself with, but never like he has relied on them now, getting help with things such as buying groceries or cooking a meal ( though of course, he didn’t explicitly ask for those things, they were only done out of the goodness of his friends hearts ). he’s usually incredibly adventurous, active and playful, but since the attack not only has he been physically unable to continue on as he was, he’s too afraid too. he doesn’t like to stray too far from home, and the once independent man now much prefers having company to ensure he doesn’t get too inside of his own head and too frightened of what has happened and what may happen in the future.
