ただいま発売中のJazz Life 10月号に新譜「叙情 - Lyric Suite」のレビューが掲載されています。 ヒロオガワのことを、とことん知り尽くした深い目線に驚愕と恥ずかしさを禁じ得ない内容です。 確かに現代音楽風ではあるけれど、プログレ的なアプローチであることを見透かされてしまった。悪い気はしないけれどね。ただ、無調であったり、変拍子であったりする曲も割と入っているので、そこは見解が分かれるところだ。「異質な作品ではなく～代表作として列するべき」と言う力強いお言葉に感謝します。最後に「小難しそうなのに聴きやすい」と言う言葉が、印象的でした。 レビュワーの富澤さんとは５作目「bue eye」からの付き合いなのですが（毎回ではないけれど）いつものことながら流麗な言い回しに感心しきりです。 レビューページの左隣に、かつしかトリオのウチュウノアバレンボーが載っていて、ついでに見てくれないかなぁ？なんて。 The October issue of Jazz Life, now on sale, features a review of the new album "Lyric Suite." The deep perspective of the reviewer, who knows Hiro Ogawa inside and out, is shocking and embarrassing. It certainly has a contemporary musical style, but the progressive rock approach was clearly seen through. I don't mind, though. However, there are quite a few atonal and irregular time signature songs, so opinions are divided on that point. I appreciate your powerful words that "this should be ranked as one of his masterpieces, not as a unique piece." The final words "It sounds difficult, but it's easy to listen to" left a strong impression on me. I've been acquainted with reviewer Tomizawa since my fifth album "blue eye" (though not every time), and as always, I'm impressed by his elegant way of speaking.

看護学生の頃、夏休みの宿題で「オムツに排泄をしてみて感想を書きなさい」という課題が出た。1人1枚ずつオムツを配られた。夜中、尿意を極限まで我慢し、誰もいない部屋でオムツへの排泄を試みた。でも、全く出ない。頑張って出そうとするけど、脳が勝手にストップをかけてくる。とてつもない羞恥心も 感じた。私たち看護師は「トイレに行きたい」と言う患者さんに、「今は立てないから、オムツにしてください」と平気で言ってしまっているけど、これがどれくらい恥ずかしくて自尊心を奪うものなのかを身をもって経験した。今でも「オムツに排泄してください」とは極力言わないようにしている。医師に 安静度を確認して、トイレへの移動許可を得たり、リハビリをしてトイレにお連れしたり。オムツへの排泄は看護師としては処理も楽。だけど、「こんなところにするなんて恥ずかしい」という患者さんの気持ちには寄り添いたい。

So, my Japanese isn't great, but I wanted to try to clarify something on here that Google Translate isn't capturing, namely from this part: Saying that there are two types of gates and then defining them both as "Power to bring" doesn't make sense in English. Why make a distinction between the two if you're gonna define them the same way? But in the Japanese, it's not quite the same words used for both: "持ってくる力" (motte kuru chikara) vs. "持っていく力" (motte iku chikara. 力 (chikara) just means "power," so we'll set that aside for now since that part is actually consistent across both items. 持って (motte) is also consistent across both items. This means "carrying" or "holding," like you'd hold a bag or a purse or a backpack or something that you're taking around with you. The big difference is between くる (kuru) and いく (iku). These are actually the kana (phonetic) versions of two kanji characters: 来る (kuru) - to come 行く (iku) - to go That provides us with a nice little pair of opposites, and changes our literal definitions as follows: 持ってくる力 (motte kuru chikara) - Power to come carrying 持っていく力 (motte iku chikara) - Power to go carrying So... they're both kinda "power to bring" but it would be more accurate to say one brings and one removes. Or, if you're feeling dramatic, one giveth and one taketh away.

Happy Birthday to everyone born today. Today is also Amane Momose from #MILGRAM's birthday. Her birth flower is Passiflora caerulea (tokeisou/Blue Passion Flower). The name "Passion flower" [tl note: passion as in "the passion/suffering of Christ, not enthusiasm] was used by Christian missionaries, it comes from the stamen's resemblence to the Crucifixion of Christ, with the 10 petals representing 10 Apostles. The passion flower's hanakotoba are "Faith", "Sacred Love" as well as "Religious fervour". Just so you know, this is simply an annecdote about the flower, it's not directly related to Amane's origins. Hanatokoba is purely allegorical. Simply put, just because the blue passion flower has this kind of backstory and hanakotoba, it doesn't mean Amane's religion is the same. Just added this supplement in case this is the first time you've had a run in with the Hanakotoba Guy and found it hard to understand. 象の鼻パーク近くのブルーブルーヨコハマ

以前、ここで象の鼻パークについて書きました。今日はその近くにあるブルーブルーヨコハマの写真を投稿します。

アメリカにあるような古い建物に蔦がいっぱいの風貌がインパクトあるブルーブルーヨコハマ。

3つの時計と3つの窓がバランスよく配置されてますね。

早朝に撮ったのでドアなどが開いてませんが、ここ、アパレルショップなのです。

ブルーブルーヨコハマという名前のアパレルショップ👕

正面出口の前を通り過ぎて、象の鼻パークの方に歩いて行くと、

海に向かって「BLUE」と描かれてる面が見えてきます。

蔦でちょっとわかりにくいけど、上部には白で「YOKOHAMA」と描かれてて。

BLUEのところには錨（いかり）らしきものが何個かあります。

見れば見るほど、面白い建物😎

ところで思い出したけど、このブルーブルーヨコハマを初めて見たのは、もう10年以上前で。

何人かでこの辺りに遊びにきてた日だったと思う。

大さん橋前の通りの方から入ってきたから、この浮世絵があったのもおぼえてる。

この浮世絵の横の隙間に入ると、ブルーブルーヨコハマが見えて「わー、横浜だなぁ！」と感動していたはず。

そのあと、象の鼻パーク近くにある象の鼻テラスで休憩してた。

今冷静に当時を振り返ると、あの頃の私は「私らしくできてたかな？」とクエスチョンが薄く浮かぶ。

もちろん、当時はそんなこと、ひとつも思っていなかったので、今改めて思い返しているだけで。

さっきまで明るく笑っていたと思ったら、急に静かになったりして。

そんな私だったなぁと思い返す。

さて。

この間の6月に訪れた時、ブルーブルーヨコハマの横に大きな紫陽花が咲いてました😊

昨年末に閉店した麻布十番の思い出の店「BLUE & WHITE」が、1月6日に最後1日だけ店を開けるということで、オーナーのAmyさんに会いに行ってきました。 ここは私が中学から高校生にかけて、刺し子のアルバイトをさせていただいたお店なのですが、近かったのに時間が合わず、とうとう行かれず仕舞いだったんですよね。本当に久々の再会でした！ 閉店セールではものすごい立派な竹製のベンチや大きな竹籠に1000円とか1500円の値札が！！ ほしかったし、Amyさんは「あげるから持って行っていいわよ」とさえ言ってくださったのですが……、置き場所がない！！ 泣く泣く諦めました。しかし昔だったらタクシー使ってでも持って帰ってただろうなぁ…？ 再会が嬉しすぎて当日の写真はありません。 代わりに100円で買った “おかめ” の顔付きの器を。春に蒔こうと思うオシロイバナの種を入れてます。

2024.07.20 NAO YOSHIOKA New Album "Flow" Release Party @ Blue Noto Tokyo 2nd St

Nao Yoshiokaのニューアルバム『Flow』のリリース��ーティーを観にブルーノート東京に行ってきました。

ニューアルバム『Flow』については、クラウドファンディングに参加していたため、アルバムリリース以前にSweetSoul Recordsで行われたリスニングセッションにて楽曲は既に聴いていた。率直な感想は、現在の日本のオルタナティブR&Bを代表するアルバムの1枚だと確信した。

その際、今��のライブのミュージックディレクターでもある宮川純がライブに向けてのアレンジや意気込みを語っていたのだが、その期待をはるかに上回る完璧なアレンジと、あのNewJeans東京ドームコンサートにてバックを勤めたギターの磯貝一樹をはじめ凄腕ミュージシャンたちのサウンドが、まさに『Flow』（好きなことに没頭して心が集中する状態）を体現した最高のライブだった。

デビュー作『The Light』(2013年)では「I'm Not Perfect」で自分が好きじゃないと歌い、『Rising』（2013年）ではどうしたら自分を好きになれるのかを追求。『The Truth』(2016年)で新しい自分の可能性を見つけ、『Undeniable』(2019年)で自分を好きになっていく、といったプロセスを経ての強制的なリセット。だが、一旦動きを止められたことによって、改めて自分がやりたいことを自問し、素の自分と向き合うことになる。そうして好きなことに没頭していくうちに恐怖から解放される状態、心理学で言うところのフロー（flow）状態にあることに気づく。それが今回のアルバムのテーマであり、タイトルになった。

Nao Yoshiokaのこれまでのアルバムは、自身の「セルフラブ」の変遷と言えるのではないかと思う。またコロナ禍以降、日本のZ世代の関心領域として「セルフラブ」が重要な役割を果たしてきていると考える。

「セルフラブ」の詳細についてはZ世代を代表するインフルエンサー、竹田ダニエル氏のこちらの連載記事が参考になる。

さらに、この「セルフラブ」のコンテキストを現在の日本のオルタナティブR&Bに落とし込んでいるのが、R&Bシンガーaimiだ。

ちなみに、こちらのポッドキャスト番組ではaimiとNaoの最初の出会いについても語られている。

ライブの感想に戻ると、ダンスナンバーも多い今回のアルバム。いつになったらスタンディングになるのかなと心配していたのだが、Naoの手招きて観客全員がスタンディング、そしてダンスと、まさに『Flow』状態となった。アンコールは「Note to Self」を観客全員一体となって合唱。素晴らしいステージだった。

BLUE

私って世界に意思があるかのように世界と接しているな、と最近よく思う。その一瞬一瞬に刻まれる時の流れや、それに従うようにただひたむきに、不規則に、不確かに、ときに不気味に命をまっとうする生き物たち。自分の中にある幼さや未熟さが世界そのものを抱きしめていて、そして世界そのものに抱きしめられているように、毎日すべてが美しくまぶしく見える。熱く湿った土、荒れた肌をなでる潮風。じりじりとした暑さと日光に肌は赤く焼けて、タンクトップの紐の跡が残る。息を吸い込んで、胸をめいっぱい膨らませて、閉じた眼をゆっくり開けると、いつもただただ静かで柔らかな美しさがこちらに向かって微笑んでいる。なのに、ああなんでこんなに寂しいんだろう？かなしいんだろう。昨日は内々定先の懇親会があった。そこに行くかはわからないけれど、なんとなくの気分で行った。大学に進学してから人と喋るのが下手になって、無理矢理に口角を上げながらそれっぽく振る舞っていた。いつもあっとういう間にすぎる時間に沿って生きているというよりは、流れる時間に溺れながら必死に「いま」に追いつこうともがいている。赤ん坊のように大きな声で泣き出したい。若さが終わらなければいいのに、いつだってそのときに好きだと思う人にキスをして、自分勝手に幸せに生きていきたいのに、迫ってくる大きな波の渦に巻き込まれている。ゼミ終わりの昼下がり、ビリーアイリッシュの新しいアルバムを聴いていた。特にBIRDS OF THE FEATHERという楽曲が大好きで、いつも夜パパが運転する車の中で流している。車窓に映る夜の光にも、人知れず孤独に輝いている水面にも似合うような、遠い昔の物語みたいな懐かしさを感じる音に慰められる。最後に思うまま文章を書いたのっていつだっけ。ありふれた毎日、既視感を覚えてしまう感情に飽きて水をやるのをさぼっていた。豊かに年老いて遺骨は木々の麓に埋葬してほしい。またとびきり人を愛したい、好きになりたい。雨の中を踊り狂いたい。焦点の定まらない思考が、砕けたガラス片みたいに脳内のあちこちで反射する。そのたびに心が光を吸収して熱くなっていく。気がついたら涙を流していた、みたいなことが最近多い。ねえ、あなたは最近どうなの？と喋りかけたい気持ちを抑えて、もうすぐで終わってしまいそうな曲を巻き戻した。

The common broom is ubiquitous in European wetlands. It grows unmindful from alpine peaks to lowland scrub and wilderness, providing temporary shelter from the wind and rain on rugged, bare ground. Although delicate in looks, its long, straight stems are strong and flexible and will not break in the wind. As its name suggests, it is used to make brooms. The broom has also been valued as a medicinal plant since ancient times. In medieval England, it was used by the royal family as a remedy for after drinking and singing parties and debauchery. The reason was that in November, when it was cold and people spent a lot of time indoors, there was nothing else to do but to be merry and boisterous.

The efficacy of medicinal herbs is corroborated in ancient Celtic literature. The ogham form of the word Ngetl represents from a word panacea, meaning 'physician's power'. The most important constituent of the broom plant is sparteine (an alkaloid). Some people associate the broom plant with witches because large doses of sparteine can cause extreme excitement or hallucinations. It is also said to be the reason why witches are flying astride broomsticks.

Beer is now made from hops, but in the olden days young, supple broom plants were used to flavour the beer and enhance the tipsy mood. Tea made from the yellow flowers was often used as a diuretic. In esoteric rituals, the broom plant is used for purification and prayers for personal safety, and is said to be particularly powerful against poltergeists. It is also said that throwing the branches of the broom plant causes wind, while burning them and burying them in the earth quiets the wind.

The spirits leave their bodies and embark on a journey. Druids (Ref2) and shamans call this 'the journey to the underworld', and the broom plant is a symbol of such a journey. Anyway, with its remarkable healing properties and narcotic-like effects, the broom plant has long been associated with healers, sorcerers, witches and shamans.

For the Celts, the month that the broom plant governs, which marks the end of the year, is a time to store up for the winter, sweep the house clean and hope that miscellaneous thoughts and bad habits will leave the house. In a nutshell, the enithid symbolises the virtue of keeping one's behaviour clean. It also teaches us to pay close attention to the dreams we have while sleeping at night.

普通種のエニシダ(英:ﾌﾞﾙｰﾑ) はヨーロッパの湿地帯ではどこにでも生えている。高山の山頂から低地の低木林や荒野まで、荒々しいむきだしの大地に雨風をしのぐ仮の宿を提供しながら平然と生育している。見た目は繊細だが、長くまっすぐな茎は丈夫でしなやかで、風で折れることはない。そ��名が示すように、ほうき(英:ﾌﾞﾙｰﾑ)の材料として使われる。また、エニシダは古くから薬草としても重宝されてきた。中世のイギリスでは、王族が酒を飲んで歌い騒ぎ、放蕩した後の薬として使っていた。寒さが厳しく室内で過ごす時間の長い11月は浮かれ騒ぐよりほかになかったからだ。

薬草の効能については、古代ケルトの文献にもそれを裏書きする記述が見られる。そもそもオガム表記のNgetlは「医者の力」を意味するパナケア(panacea) を表しす。エニシダの最も重要な成分はスパルテイン（アルカロイド）である。スパルテインを大量に摂取すると、極度の興奮や幻覚を引き起こすことがあるため、エニシダを魔女と結びつける人もいる。また、魔女がほうきにまたがって空を飛ぶのもこのためだと言われている。

現在、ビールはホップから作られているが、昔は若くてしなやかなエニシダがビールの風味付けやほろ酔い気分を高めるために使われていた。黄色い花で入れたお茶は利尿剤としてよく使われた。密教の儀式では、エニシダは浄化や身の安全を祈願するために使われ、特にポルターガイストに対して威力を発揮すると言われている。また、エニシダの枝を投げると風が吹き、燃やして土に埋めると風が静まると言われている。

魂は肉体を離れ、旅に出る。ドルイド（参照2）やシャーマンはこれを「冥界への旅」と呼び、エニシダはそうした旅の象徴である。いずれにせよ、エニシダには驚くべきヒーリング (癒し) 作用と麻薬のような効果があるため、長い間、ヒーラー、魔術師、魔女やシャーマンと縁の深い植物なのだ。

ケルト人にとって1年の締めくくりにあたる、エニシダがつかさどる月は、冬に備えて貯え、家の中を綺麗に掃き清め、雑念や悪習に退場を願う時期に当たる。一言でいえば、エニシダは自分の行動を綺麗に保つことの美徳を象徴している。そして、夜寝ている間に見る夢に細心の注意を払うようにという教えでもある。
