KUUCHUU BUNKAI / THREE feat. AKIYAMA MIZUKI

this was my work from the @typecastzine, a mashup zine between project sekai and vocaloid!

i'm so honored to call this my first ever zine (and in turn the first time i've ever seen my work in print !!!!)

everyone who worked on the zine was so lovely and helpful with this piece when i was starting to doubt myself on it! i've made some great lasting friends from this project and basically yah tldr this zine is so special and important to me and i'm beyond glad i was able to participate in it ♡

thank you to the mods, hachi and bee, for letting me be a part of this zine and creating this beautiful bastard of a project !!

With that, the room becomes a little louder as everyone makes their way out of the hall, some toward the library and some to their respective offices. The knights joining the expedition gathered around Varka to ask questions, while Diluc stood back, waiting for his turn. While he does, he sees Kaeya come closer, and he smiles at him, giving a tiny wave.

Until he says that.

Surprise is an understatement. He had been too busy these days to assume Kaeya would be upset about being left behind, but he supposes... If the other were sent on a trip alone, Diluc would also feel lonely. He was supposed to be Kaeya's partner and vice versa. Due to this, Varka once advised him that he should try giving the other some space to grow without Diluc by his side. He understands where he was coming from, but to split them now after all these years was ridiculous. Besides, just doing their job already had them work separately on various occasions. But had they ever separated for a whole month before...?

Diluc takes a secret glance behind him where Varka stands, still talking to the knights coming on the expedition.

Then, he leans towards him, shoulders touching when he cups a hand over his mouth so no one can read his lips. "Why don't you just sneak into the cargo like you did years ago to Sumeru?" His expression is neutral, calm without a single sign of anything amiss. "How long do you think it'll take before they find out? Could be good training for spotting infiltrators, don't you think? You could throw little pieces of gravel at the back of their heads too."

While the captain would normally never joke around at work, he thinks a little leeway when Kaeya seems so down is fine. Besides, the idea of testing his subordinates was quite tempting, actually.

In the second, Song Lan has successfully brought his sword up to block – but Xiao Xingchen was feinting, and has redirected to Song Lan's left to land the point of his sword on his partner's chest. Child(ren):

Tsukasa would not allow his child to be an only child, and as such, they end up with twins and a younger brother.

The twins would probably have more Western names, or names that are of famous female and male twins (Apollo+Artemis, Dipper+Mabel, for example). For this, we'll call them Kate and Nate.

The younger child would probably eventually be transfem nonbinary and, with Nene's amazing naming skills, be named Akira (暁). They'd be absolutely coddled by the twins.

Kate and Akira would both also have the same condition as Saki, which would have initially put Tsukasa into a spiral until both Nene and his sister reminded him he wasn't alone. And, unlike Saki, the two would have each other and their aunt to help when things got lonely if they needed to be hospitalized.

Overall, the whole family would be close, if not a little suffocating at times for both Nene and Akira. But the two'd have a blast beating the others in video games during family game night.

Headcanons:

Tsukasa would probably have a list of thousands of names and still not end up using any. Nene would be why.

They do karaoke once a month alone and once with family.

The bi-weekly travels to PhennyLand are mostly for Tsukasa to be a goofy dad and get promptly tackled by Aunt Emu upon entering. Nene knows this is never going to stop and so she makes sure it is even more dramatic by texting Emu when they actually arrive and are starting to get in so Emu can be there.

Late at night, Nene plays things like RPGs and otomes with Tsukasa making the decisions. One time, he picked the hardest difficulty in a game and then made the mistake of challenging her to beat it in 4 days. She did it in 2, to the panic of Tsukasa and the kids.

Nene and Tsukasa are professional actors until the kids come. After that, they work as teachers at Rui and Emu's co-owned acting school.

I've decided to rework an old story/universe from several years ago, so here we go again, from the top:

暁の物語 Akatsuki no Monogatari

光 Hikari

Hikari, aka Shitaikou, is a young ronin, a master-less samurai, wandering around Edo-era Japan on a soul-searching journey.

He was raised as a girl named Sayoko (小夜子) by a samurai family, and taught swordsmanship and the arts like his brothers, although he was never destined to become a warrior. When the time came to find him a husband, he stole two swords, ran away and changed his name.

He now walks the roads of Japan on a quest to find [insert as-of-yet undefined quest here], and offers his assistance to villagers on the way. In doing so, he often runs into yokais and other paranormal occurences, to the point where in time he becomes an expert on the occult underworld of Japan and is often nicknamed the Demon Samurai.

Hikari is accompanied in his travels by Chihiro (千尋), a kitsune, and by Mochi (餅), a totally normal cat with the usual amount of tails and absolutely no supernatural powers, no siree. He is also regularly involved with an onnagata (a cross-dressing kabuki actor) and a yokai-hunting Buddhist monk, both of which I have yet to name (Mochi's name is also susceptible of being changed soon), and meets all kinds of strange people on his travels.

Hikari has a kind heart and a strong sense of honour. His driving force is his desire to help others; although he is very naive at first, and misguided altruism often gets him in trouble. As the story progresses, he will grow more mature and cynical, often preferring the company of yokais to that of humans, but trying to retain hope and faith in his fellow men.

Akatsuki no Monogatari (the Tale of Dawn) takes place in the very beginning of the Edo era, in the transition years between the warring period of the Sengoku-Jidai and the two hundred years of peace under the Tokugawa shogunate. It is a story about change and beginnings, both of a person and of a country.

Some name lore under the cut!

The kanji Hikari 光 means "light". Hikari is a "public first name", sort of an official nickname. It was common practice in feudal Japan (at least among the samurai class) to go by a public name and keep your real name private. In Hikari's case, that is also because he often frequents yokais and magicians, who could use his true name against him.

His real name is Shitaikou 志泰光 . The kanjis composing it mean "aspire", "gentle" and "light". He chose it as a reminder to himself to strive for kindness and to make the world a better place.

("Hikari" is the last kanji composing this name. When used with other kanjis, it is pronouced "kou". Such is the messed-up way kanjis work. -frustrated weeb noises-)

Hikari doesn't have a last name; he gave up his family's name when he ran away and saw no use in taking a new one: as a ronin he is not tied to any family.

His birth name, Sayoko 小夜子 , is composed of the kanjis "small", "night" and "daughter". Hence the title, Akatsuki no Monogatari, the tale of dawn, or how the night turns into the light.

(the kanji for "Akira" can also mean "bright". While this is NOT the same Kanji used for his name, it's one that shares a meaning, so this would reference Akira)

俐 means "sharp, witty, clever."

(Honestly, could work for both, especially if your Akiren maxed his knowledge and proficiency stats. But I specifically had Akechi in mind with these meaning)

命 means "life, fate, destiny, naming, words, a vow

So, I have a small announcement to make.

If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that I make original songs inspired by (usually) anime. The next installment in that series will likely come in March, and it’s inspired by the anime series Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song.

I’ve been working on it slowly since December, and it’ll end up being around 5-1/2 to 6 minutes long; the main reason it’s taken so long is the fact that I have much less free time than I used to (since I have a job now!), but also the fact that this winter has been kind of difficult for me, mental-health-wise. Plus, the style of the song is outside my wheelhouse, so I’ve had to stretch myself a bit.

In the song, I try to emulate the feeling and emotional impact of songs from Vivy, particularly those written by Kousaki Satoru (神前 暁), such as “Galaxy Anthem” and “Sing My Pleasure”. However, I’m also drawing influence from the songs that Kanno Youko (菅野 よう子) wrote for Macross Frontier and Sousei no Aquarion. Hopefully I end up succeeding in this endeavour….

The title of the song will be: “To My Sisters”.
