She likes the quiet, Sunshine tells herself. The break from the hustle and bustle of touring, the uncomfortable bunks and dirty hotel rooms, the fatigue. Too bad she can’t make herself believe it.

She misses her pack. Her girls. She knows it’s only for another month and then they’ll be back and the den will never know quiet until the next tour. A month feels too long.

She glances at the clock and does the mental math for what time it is where the pack is. Late, that's what. Still she grabs her phone and taps out a message in the ghoulettes’ group chat.

Sunnybee 🌻: You guys still up?

It's a few minutes before she gets a response.

✨Princess✨: Hi hi! Lulu is in the shower and Ciri is getting a snack from the vending machine.

Sunnybee 🌻: Back at the hotel then? How was the show?

✨Princess✨: Yup! It was good! Someone gave Phantom a bat plushie and he’s been cuddling it ever since

Sunnybee 🌻: Aww!

✨Princess✨: Yeah he's so happy about it

✨Princess✨: Ciri is back!

Cir 🌩️: Hey Sunny. How’re things back home?

Sunnybee 🌻: They’re okay. Trying to keep busy

Sunnybee 🌻: I miss you guys

✨Princess✨: We miss you too!!! So much!!! 🥺

Sunnybee 🌻: I know it's late but are you guys up to call?

The reply is her phone vibrating and the video call accept screen popping up. She joins just in time to hear Cirrus yelling, “Cue get your butt in here! Sunny wants to talk!”

“I’m coming, I’m coming.” Sunny can hear Cumulus laugh and then her face pops into frame above Cirrus and Aurora’s where they’re laying on the bed. Behind them Sunny can see the window, dark except for the fluorescent street lights indicating the late hour.

Cirrus catches the falter in Sunshine’s smile.

“Don’t worry about the time honeybee. We’ve always got time to talk to you. So tell us all about what you and Aether have been getting up to.”

They chat for a while, updating each other. Just hearing the sound of the ghoulette’s voices, the little reminder that they’re still out there and that they’re just as eager to come home; it makes Sunshine feel so much better.

All too soon though it's time to hang up. Aurora and Cumulus have been yawning for a while but when Cirrus fails to stifle a yawn they all admit it’s time for bed. They say their goodbyes and finally hang up. Sunshine drops her phone to the bed spread and flops out on her back.

Just a little while longer, she tells herself.

She hates the quiet.

Hey Aether, what's your honest opinion on Xiao and Itto? Because they are most definitely protectors of those that they love. Not to mention Xiao has about a couple thousand years of protecting practice with the lyuie region. Which one of these guys would you approve to be with your sister more?

"Hmm.. Xiao is nice. He seems like a nice person. Itto can be a bit obnoxious and destructive sometimes, but he's cool as well. I would approve.. Itto more. I know Xiao can protect my sister better, due to all his training, but his karmic debt would probably overtake my sister. Itto would be the safer option, in my eyes."
