Humans have the tendency to put poisonous plants in their mout and enjoy eating it ( coffee and anything that has effects of being spicy like chili peppers and weirdly we have the habit to eat things that are not good for us )

Like imagine anyone seeing the local human eating grapes out in the open or trying to make coffee?

Better yet eating chili peppers they found and make it part of their lunch

If it looks edible, humans will put it in their mouth. That’s a fact of life—but not exactly a good idea sometimes! :V

Put a human in a world full of humanoid monsters where certain foods are toxic or can give them really bad tummy aches? You’ll either get a human complaining about a craving for something not readily available, or you’ll get this:

Yuu: *glancing around before sneakily eating bag of grapes*

Sebek: “Human! What are you eating?!”

Yuu: *freezes, shoving the grapes in their mouth before taking off at top speed*

Sebek: “HUMAN!! Get back here!!!”

*two hours later*

Ace: “Did you have to chase them up a tree?”

Sebek: “It’s not as if I intended to do so! The human shouldn’t have been hiding what they were eating in the first place. They are not a chipmunk!”

Yuu: *sitting on a branch high up, eating more grapes* “This is fine.”

Jack: “Wait, where did that bag come from?”

Granted, moments like these will calm down quite a bit once it’s clear that Yuu is—in fact—safe. But if the local human happens to be allergic to certain ingredients or foods, they’d better be prepared for quick hands swiping their food or getting tackled and rushed to the nurse’s office/the researchers. When the discovery that some monster students possess human DNA, this opens up a whole new world of food possibilities for them to try! In a supervised environment of course, and more on a volunteer basis just to ensure student safety.

Otherwise, Yuu will gain some snack buddies! 😃

Now, when it comes to mini!Yuu, as all little kids do, it’s highly likely that the toddler will try to put random things in their mouth.

Mini!Yuu: *playing in Jade and Floyd’s room, climbing up on Jade’s desk while Floyd isn’t looking and picking up a mushroom* “Oooh.” *goes to put it in mouth*

Floyd: “Eh, Shrimpy, what’s—Shrimpy, no!!” *bolts over and grabs the mushroom, holding it high over his head* “Don’t eat that!”

Mini!Yuu: “Why?”

Floyd: “Because mushrooms are disgusting. Bleck!”

Jade: *walks in carrying a small terrarium* “I thought I heard a commotion. Did something happen while I was away for a moment?”

Floyd: “Jade, little Shrimpy almost ate one of your mushrooms! Didn’t Azul tell you to keep your stuff away from them?”

Jade: “They did, did they? Oh my…I was only gone for a minute. Fufufu…well, it’s wonderful knowing that you were watching out for them, though I assure you that this particular mushroom is perfectly safe. It is a pearl oyster mushroom, one of the most commonly used in cooking. I had hoped to make a small terrarium of perfectly safe and non-toxic mushrooms for our dear little Yuu.”

Mini!Yuu: “I wanna try the mushy!”

Jade: “Of course, little one. Would you like to help me build your terrarium?”

Mini!Yuu: “Yes!”

Floyd: *groans*

And thus began the tiny toddler’s first part of the collection of terrariums and Floyd suffering. Jade’s just happy to have someone who will listen to him talk about mushrooms and plants he finds in the mountains, even if they don’t understand half of what he says! X’D

Anyway, as you can imagine, taking care of a child who doesn’t know what’s good and safe for them is difficult. Especially since—as any parent would tell you—it’s when you look away for just one split second that things can happen to a kid. Hence, why for some of them (Jamil, Vil, Rook, Trey, Jack, Crewel, and Trein), they’re able to just calmly reach over and snatch the dangerous food or object and replace it with something safer.

Then there are those who might end up freaking out/panicking. Funny to reminisce over, but not so funny in the moment 😂

coming back to this post i made again to elaborate - especially as the ted lasso fandom is discussing sam/rebecca and fandom racism in general. there are takes that are important to make that i had failed to previously, but there's also a growing amount of takes that i have to, As A Black Person™, respectfully disagree with.

tl;dr for the essay below sam being infantilized and the sam/rebecca relationship are not the same issue and discussing the former one doesn't mean excusing the latter. and we've reached the glen of the Dark Forest where we sit down and talk about fandom racism.

i should have elaborated this in my last post about sam/rebecca, but i didn't. i'll say it now - i personally don't support sam and rebecca getting together for real. i believe what people are saying is entirely correct, even though sam is an adult legally, he and rebecca are, at the very least, two wildly different stages of life. for americans, he's at the equivalent of being a junior in college. there are things he hasn't gotten the chance to experience and there are areas he needs to grow in. when i was younger, i didn't understand the significance of these age gaps, i just thought it would be fine if it was legal, but as someone who is now a little older than sam in universe, i understand fully. we can't downplay this. whether or not you think sam works for rebecca or not, even despite the gender inversion of the Older Man Younger Woman trope, whether or not he is a legal adult, i don't think at this point in time, their relationship would work. i think it's an interesting narrative device, but i don't want to see it play out in reality.

that being said!

what's worrying me is that two discussions are being conflated here that shouldn't be. sam having agency and being a little more grown™ than he's perceived to be does not suddenly make his relationship with rebecca justified. i had decided to bring it up because sam was being brought into the spotlight again and i was starting to realizing that his infantilization was more common than i felt comfortable with.

sam's infantilization (and i will continue to call it that), is a microaggression. it's is in the range of microaggressions that i would categorize as 'fandom overcompensation'. we have a prominent character of color that exhibits traits that aren't stereotypical, and we don't want to appear racist or stereotypical, so we lean hard in the other direction. they're not aggressive, they're a Sweet Baby, they're not world weary, they're now a little naive. they're not cold and distant, they're so nice and sweet that there's no one that wouldn't want approach them, and yeah, on their face, these new traits are a departure and, on their face, they seem they look really good.

but at a certain point, it reaches an inflection point, and, like the aftertaste of a diet coke, that alleged sweetness veers into something a lot less sweet. it veers into a lack of agency for the character. it veers into an innocence that appears to indicate that the person can't even take care of themselves. it veers into a one-dimensional characterization that doesn't allow for any depth or negative emotion.

it's not kind anymore. it's not a nice departure from negative stereotypes. it's not compensating for anything.

it's patronizing.

it is important that we emphasize that characters of color are more than the toxic stereotypes we lay on them, yes, but we make a mistake in thinking that the solution is overcorrection. for one thing, people of color can usually tell. don't get it twisted, it's actually pretty obvious. for another, it just shifts from one dimension to another. people of color are still supposed to be Only One Character Trait while white people can contain multitudes. ted, who is pretty much as pollyanna as they come, can be at once innocent and naive and deep and troubled and funny and scared. jamie can be a prick and sexy and also lonely and also a victim of abuse. sam, however, even though he was bullied (by jamie, no less), is thousands of miles away from home, and has led a protest on his team, is usually just characterized as human sunshine with much less acknowledgement of any other traits beyond that.

and that's why i cringe when fandom calls sam a Sweet Baby Boy without any sense of irony. is that all we're taking away? after all this time? even for a comedy, sam has received a substantive of screen time over two whole seasons, and we've seen a range of emotions from him. so as a black person it's hurtful that it's boiled down to Sweet Baby Boy.

that's the problem. we need to subvert stereotypes, but more importantly, we need to understand that people of color are not props, or pieces of cardboard for their white counterparts. they are full and actualized and have agency in their own right and they can have other emotions than Angry and Mean or Sweet and Bubbly without any nuance between the two. i think the show actually does a relatively good job of giving sam depth (relatively, always room for improvement, mind you), especially holding it in tension with his youth, but the fandom, i worry, does not.

it's the same reason why finn from star wars started out as the next male protagonist in the sequel trilogy but by the third movie was just running around yelling for REY!! it's the same reason why when people make Phase 4 Is the Phase For Therapy gifsets for the mcu and show wanda maximoff, loki, and bucky barnes crying and being sad but purposefully exclude sam wilson who had an entire show to tell us how difficult his life is, because people find out if pee oh sees are also complex, they'll tell the church.

and the reason why i picked up on this very early on is because i am an organic, certified fresh, 100% homegrown, non-gmo, a little ashy, indigenous sub saharan African black person. the ghanaian tribes i'm descended from have told me so, my black ass parents have told me so, and the nurses at the hospital in [insert asian country here] that started freaking out about how curly my hair was as my mother was mid pushing me out told me so!

and this stuff has real life implications. listen: being patronized as a black person sucks. do you know how many times i was patted on the back for doing quite honestly, the bare minimum in school? do you know how many times i was told how 'well spoken' or 'eloquent' i was because i just happen to have a white accent or use three syllable words? do you know how many times i've been cooed over by white women who couldn't get over how sweet i was just because i wasn't confrontational or rude like they wrongly expected me to be?

that's why they're called microaggressions. it's not a cross on your lawn or having the n-word spat in your face, but it cuts you down little by little until you're completely drained.

so that's the nuance. that's the subversion. the overcompensation is not a good thing. and people of color (and i suspect, even white people) have picked up on, in general, the different ways fandom treats sam and dani and even nate. what all of these discussions are converging on is fandom racism, which is not the diet form of racism, but another place for racism to reveal itself. and yeah, it's uncomfortable. it can seem out of left field. you may want to defend yourself. you may want to explain it away. but let me tap the sign on the proverbial bus:

if you are a white person, or a person of color who is not part of that racial group, even, you do not get to decide what is not racist for someone. full stop. there are no exceptions. there is no exit clause for you. there is no 'but, actually-'. that right wasn't even yours to cede or waive.

(it's also important to note that people of color also have the right to disagree on whether something is racist, but that doesn't necessarily negate the racism - it just means there's more to discuss and they can still leave with different interpretations)

people don't just whip out accusations of racism like a blue eyes white dragon in a yu-gi-oh duel. it's not fun for us. it's not something we like to do to muzzle people we don't want to engage with. and we're not concerned with making someone feel bad or ashamed. we're exposing something painful that we have to live with and, even worse, process literally everything we experience through. we can't turn it off. we can't be 'less sensitive' or 'less nitpicky'. we are literally the primary resources, we are the proverbial wikipedia articles with 3,000 sources when it comes to racism. who else would know more than us?

what 2020 has shown us very clearly is that racism is systemic. it's not always a bunch of Evil White Men rubbing their hands together in a dark room wondering how they're going to use the 'n-word' today. it's systemic. it's the way you call that one neighborhood 'sketchy'. it's how you use 'ratchet' and 'ghetto' when describing something bad. it's how you implicitly the assume the intelligence of your friend of color. it's the way you turned up your nose and your friend's food and bullied them for it in middle school but go to restaurants run by white people who have 'uplifted' it with inauthentic ingredients. it's telling someone how Well Spoken and Eloquent they are even though you've both gone to the same schools and work at the same workplace. it's the way you look down at some people of color for having a different body type than you because they've been redlined to neighborhoods where certain foods and resources are inaccessible, and yet mock up the racial features that appeal to you either through makeup or plastic surgery.

it's how when a person of color behaves badly, they're irredeemable, but a white person performing the same act or something similar is 'having a bad day' or 'isn't normally like this' or 'has room to grow' and we can't 'wait for their redemption arc', and yes, i'm not going to cover it in detail in this post but yes this is very much about nate. other people have also brought up the nuances in his arc and compared them to other white characters so i won't do it here.

these behaviors and reactions aren't planned. they aren't orchestrated. they're quite literally unconscious because they've been lovingly baked into western society for centuries. you can't wake up and be rid of it. whether you intended it or not, it can still be racist.

and it's actually quite hurtful and unfair to imply that concerns about racism in the TL fandom are unfounded or lacking any depth or simply meant to be sensational because you simply don't agree with it. i wish it was different, but it doesn't work that way. i'm not raising this up to 'call out' or shame people, but i'm adding to this discussion because, through how we talk about sam, and even dani and nate, i'm yet again seeing a pattern that has shortchanged people of color and made them feel unwelcome in fandom for far too long.

White Day

Summary:

Despite getting married in just a few weeks, Naruto's culinary expertise revolves entirely around cooking various kinds of ramen, and Sakura decides that it's time to put her foot down for Hinata's sake. Naruto would learn how to make something non-ramen related even if it killed her, and what better time to surprise Hinata than White Day?

Ahaha, a thing I wrote a while ago. Tell me what you think!

"Gah!" Sakura scowled and poked at the ruined dessert with a lone pinky finger as though she was handling radioactive waste.

Then again, it was hard to begrudge her this reaction, not when Naruto's attempt at a slab of White Day chocolate had melted into a silvery, metallic-looking blob, despite her best efforts at supervising him. These efforts included shoving a cookbook under his face while brandishing a rolling pin in her hand. Throughout the ordeal, Naruto had busily stirred the butter, icing sugar, and vanilla extract together, one eye fixed on the cookbook in great terror, and the other eye fixed on the rolling pin in even greater terror.

And yet...

She was at a loss as to how he managed to screw up one simple recipe so badly, even with all the ingredients and cooking instructions conveniently laid out right in front of him.

Beside her, Iruka-sensei frowned as he inspected the toxic compound, Sakura's partner in bafflement. She was truly grateful to her old teacher from the bottom of her heart for his assistance. When she found out that despite getting married in only a few weeks, Naruto's cooking expertise extended only to making miso ramen, shio ramen, tonkotsu ramen...

Basically nothing except ramen...she may have snapped. A little. Okay, maybe a lot. But seriously, what was the fool thinking, that he would feed Hinata noodles 365 days a year? Someone in the back of her mind, someone who sounded suspiciously like the long-dormant Inner Sakura, said yes. And that was enough to make her...snap.

A vision of the coming days flashed in Sakura's mind, one of a poor pregnant Hinata waking up to her future husband subjecting her to meal after meal of ramen, because he thought it was "nutritious" and "healthy" for growing babies.

Another vision of Naruto torturing his future wife and children by taking them out to Ichiraku for every meal, even at three in the morning.

The newly-awoken Inner Sakura viciously supplied her with a third image of Naruto's future kids, tearfully accusing him of loving ramen more than his own family.

The frightening thing was, Sakura knew that these visions of the future were all within the realms of possibility. After all, how often had she, Sasuke, and Kakashi-sensei gone through such situations? How many times did her old team return from missions, exhausted, bone-soaked, and ravenous, Sakura craving nothing more than some anmitsu and hot tea, only for Naruto to drag them all off to eat ramen? How many times?

Even Sai and Captain Yamato had suffered along with her, despite being late additions to their team.

A ninja was one who endured. But too much was too much.

It was unacceptable.

Hinata didn't deserve a married life of eternal torment, so Sakura had decided to take matters into her own hands. Naruto would learn how to cook a non-ramen dish before the end of the month, even if it killed her. Iruka-sensei was more than happy to help, when she informed him of the dire situation at hand.

And what better time to surprise Hinata than on White Day?

Which brought her back to the problem.

"It tastes fine," Iruka said, breaking a small bit off the blob and taking a bite, his eyes widening incredulously. "But I don't understand how."

"It doesn't matter if it tastes fine, not when it looks like cat puke!" Sakura snapped, also taking a bite and chewing slowly.

"Cat puke?" Naruto snapped back.

Her lips puckered as she let the delicious taste of vanilla soak into her tastebuds and radiate across her tongue. Mmmm, not bad, not bad at all. If Sasuke were to ever give her chocolate like this, she certainly wouldn't have minded. To be honest, Naruto wasn't actually bad at cooking, despite his lack of experience with anything other than ramen. She glanced around the kitchen, taking in the horrific-looking remains of his attempts at fried rice and other concoctions. Not that those dishes tasted bad, either...

But food presentation was important. And Hinata deserved the best. She needed chocolate that looked good and tasted good, not this roadkill-looking stuff.

"Yes, cat puke, Naruto. Please, we've been over this so many times. You need to make food that actually looks appetizing. So that people want to eat it." Sakura groaned and put her head on the table. It had been hours. Hours and hours.

Teaching Naruto was tough. Her patience was fraying like old cloth, and the only reason she was still keeping her sanity intact was the thought of Hinata's radiant smile at getting homemade White Day chocolate, just for her.

"Iruka-sensei..." She lifted her head wearily. "How did you do it?"

"Do what?"

"Teach us all for so many years," Sakura muttered. "Teach Naruto for so many years. It's killing me. I don't get how you're so patient."

Their old teacher chuckled. "Well, compared to painting the Hokage Monument, this is small stuff. And I've had years of practice reading Naruto's gibberish handwriting, so the mess he's making now is nothing."

"His handwriting still looks like gibberish," said Sakura. "When he writes mission reports, Tsunade-shishou always has a stroke trying to read it."

Both sensei and student laughed.

"I'm still here, ya know," Naruto said grouchily.

"Sakura, watch and learn from the master," Iruka-sensei said, rolling up his sleeves. It was usually something that inspired terror in his Academy students, but today the effect was significantly diluted by the fact that he was wearing a cute ramen-themed apron over his clothes. "Naruto, if you can successfully make twenty bars of properly-shaped White Day chocolate by the end of the day, I'll...I'll..."

He took a deep breath, like he was agreeing to sacrifice his limbs. "I'll...pay for two weeks' worth of yours and Hinata's ramen expenses."

Oh my.

That's worse than sacrificing his limbs, Sakura thought. Poor Iruka-sensei...

Iruka-sensei's hands were twitching, like they couldn't believe how narrowly they had dodged a bullet.

"All right!" Naruto's gloominess vanished, to be replaced with a bright smile, as though the clouds had cleared to make way for the sun. "Let's go, Iruka-sensei!"

Sakura's eyes crinkled at the sight of Naruto puttering around the kitchen, looking gleeful at the thought of two weeks of free ramen and subjecting them to his culinary eyesores.

Yeah, she could definitely picture Hinata's radiant smile.

Even if Naruto fed her objects that belonged in a horror museum.

Prayer is worth its will in soul

This is a draft from one of my friends who writes stuff, said it was a dumb idea but i don’t think so. Its from 2018 so i did some revisions and added some elder futhark runes. Original name: Zixak

In a small compound out in the rural valleys where a holy sect lived off the land, where sermons and gospel were daily, one of the altar boys had a secret. A dark ritual after service was done and he been left to sweep the floors.

The prayer house was a compact building with large almost catacomb like underground rooms in it’s basement. If anyone would be doing anything heretical or sinful in general, the basement would be the first and almost only place they would look. The attic was almost always ignored and he was able to sweep the floors quicker than anyone was aware of.

A sponge squelches against a wall as blood is forced out into arcane scrawling. Any kind of blood would’ve worked just fine but the ravens are too pretty to kill and everyone constantly complains about how loud and over crowding the seagulls get during this time of year. He managed to convince himself that it didn’t matter.

He always had trouble with the circle but he managed by doing it slower this time. He began to toss handfuls of firework powder onto the bloodied wall beneath which was a bowl of water and a few flowers from the garden. 

“:ᛏᚨᚲᛖ:ᛟᚹ:ᚠᛚᛖᛋᚺ:ᚹᚨᛏ:ᛁᛉ:ᛒᚢᚱᚾᛏ:ᛏᚢ:ᚨᛋᚺ:ᛚᛖᛏ:ᛗᛁ:ᚹᛟᛚᚲ:ᛟᚾᛏᚢ:ᚠᛚᚨᛗᛖ:ᚹᛁᛏ:ᛞᚨᚱᚲ:ᚨᚾᚷᛖᛚᛋ:ᛏᚨᚲᛖ:ᛟᚹ:ᛒᛚᚢᛞ:ᛏᛖᚨᚱᛋ:...” he stumbles over his own tongue and flips the paper. 

“Uh, :ᚲᚢᛗ:ᚠᛟᚱᛏᚺ:ᚨᚾᛞ:ᛏᚨᚲᛖ:ᛏᚺᚢ:ᛒᚱᛖᚨᛏᚺ:ᛟᚹ:ᛗᚨᚾ:ᚱᛖᚹᛏ:ᚨᛋᚺ:ᚠᛚᚨᛗᛖ:ᛒᛚᚢᛞ:ᛏᛖᚨᚱᛋ:”

He lights two wax candles and dips his fingers into one of the dead gulls that he laid out before the seal. “:ᚠᛁᚾᚨᛚᛃ:ᛏᚨᚲᛖ:ᛟᚹ:ᛗᛖ:ᚨ:ᛗᛟᚱᛏᚨᛚ:ᚨᚾᛞ:ᚱᛁᛉᛖ:ᚹᛁᛏ:ᛗᛃ:ᛋᛟᛚ:” He raises his fingers above and bows his head without thought. The ingredients in front of him become weightless and suspended in the rays of the now glowing symbols.

“:ᚲᚢᛗ:ᚠᛟᚱᛏᚺ:ᛒᛁ:ᛏᚺᛁᛋ:ᚾᚨᛗᛖ:ᚨᚾᛞ:ᚱᛁᛉᛖ:” 

The roaring sound of wind doesn’t register to him at all neither does the groaning of wood as waves of blood spill from the bright sigils on the wall soaking his feet and seeping through the floor. The room is over powered by a flickering red light that heats the room like the sun. 

His body trembles and pours out sweat, he feels his body fall to its knees and the air move in and out of his lungs without command. An almost orgasmic feeling forces its way up his spine, through his chest, and out of his throat as he shouts.

“ ! ᛉ ᛁ ᚲ ᛋ ᚨ ᚲ ! ”

He drops to the floor like a corpse along with the rest of the shrine. The powder, the candles, the gull, the flowers, the bowl, the blood, the sponge, and the blood. The slick red substance darkens into a coagulated tar-like sludge that fizzles and hisses into black stains on the wood and his toes. The sound of leaves and twigs falling onto the roof reminds him to breath. 

As he heaves on the floor in a sopping mess of fatigue he tries to reevaluate his own body. Tongue? Check. Teeth? Check. Eyes? Check. Nose? Check... 

“You know, Old Hebrew works just fine too.”

He whips his head upwards toward the voice and jolts with panic. Was someone else here? He forgets how to open his eyes at first and when he does the sight freezes him.

A set of shiny, charcoal black horns sprout of raven hair. Glowing orange eyes on a red, soft face stares back at him and he trails down to its sharp yet genuine looking smile. It’s chin rests on a surprising dark ruff of feathers that hides it’s neck and continues in a v-shape down to it’s chest. 

It’s flesh all over is a cherry red that pales darkens into crimson near its hands that were strange and claw like with only 4 fingers. It’s arms and wrists are covered in glyphs and images that read more like tattoos than runes or sigils. 

It has fit and lean features that show of slight features of muscle. It’s abdominal muscles aren’t too noticeable as they begin to be covered in thick light brown fur that continues down it’s pelvis. The fur fails to cover it’s... animalistic genitals. It’s legs are the least human feature. They’re covered in a coat of tan and standing on what appears to be two sets of knees, they end in hard but polished looking black hooves.

He’s not breathing again. He chokes on the air he doesn’t have and gasps like an asthmatic. The creature kneels down to the boy’s level and pats his back with with care. “Take your time, deep breaths.”

He catches his breath just fine, his body however has plans of its own. Joints like stone and bones like iron he remains frozen in place, staring at the caprine black rectangles that rest in a bright orange sea. It stands and crosses it’s arms in a passive pose.

“Are you breathing now?”

He searches for his lips before he speaks. “...y-yeah.” He didn’t quite understand what was going on or how to communicate with the strange thing from the seal. It looks friendly but then again it is most definitely an infernal being. It cannot be trusted.

He regains his sense of motion and mind and wobbles to a stand. It’s now that he notices the demon’s height, it’s a little taller maybe by a foot not counting the horns. “a- Alright.” he starts.

“I have summoned you for a deal, demon.” his voice was still heavy with fatigue but his flow over the words were confident. “You are bound by that there seal so I wouldn’t try nothin smart. Your lies won’t travel and them claws won’t scratch.” 

It raises one of it’s eye brows and picks something from it’s neck feathers. “Huh, this is something new.” it leans forward as the boy leans back. 

“Iv’e seen plenty of sinners and saints in my time but your soul and your form are...” It eyes the boy from his baggy white alb to his wavy brown hair. “Sinfully attractive~”

“Now listen here, ain’t non of that flattery gonna work on me.” The boy warned. barring his teeth.

“Etiquette.” it states with a shrug. “But, if you really want to be all business about it then I guess I could try to listen.”

The boy stands straighter and takes a step back. “I want the truth.”

The infernal thing sighs and leans against the seal making it glow a little brighter. “From what lie?” 

He cocks his head at the thing before he searches around him for a bit and picks up the item from a nearby abandoned bookshelf. He holds up a dust old book bound in black leather, it had to be at least a few decades old as the pages were yellowed and the corners were worn. In gold Times New Roman was the words “New Testament: Holy Bible (KJV)”

The monster frowns and scratches its neck ruff. “You... can’t be serious. You managed to summon me, seal me, and some how have doubt in your god?”

The boy grits his teeth and averts his eyes. Shame floods his stomach and drowns out the moths that were there a few minutes ago. He was a heretic, devoid of faith. Not that he had lost any.

It scoffs. “Well, now you know not to look for him in a church... Tell you what.” It walks up to the boy and rests his hand on his shoulder and gives him a sympathetic look. He avoids eye contact and settles on his neck ruff instead.

“I can’t lie... but i’m not telling you the truth either.” the boy almost speaks but it cuts him off before he starts. “How about a gamble; the value of your immoral soul, double or nothing.”

He pulls away with a look of spite. “Listen here. I ain’t no fool, devil!” He reaches into his robes and pulls out a small, bottle with a clear liquid inside. He twists the cap. “And I ain’t gonna go out like one either!”

The demon back peddles and backs up quickly as it’s feathers puff out instinctual. “Woah. Hold on, let me explain!” 

He raises the bottle threateningly. “You was sayin?”

"Merde.“ it hisses to its self with it’s palms out defensively. “I think you misunderstood me. What I was offering was a tour.” It re-phrases with a nervous smile.

The boy lowers the bottle but stays on his guard. “Go on.”

“I will take you down to the lake of fire, completely safe, and tell you how things truly are, if you want to see more then I-” He pauses. “We, will merge as one. If at any point you want to leave or if you don’t want to see any more, just give me a kiss and i’ll send you on your way.

“What... Why a kiss? Don’t you got a bell I can ring or somethin?” The boy whined uncomfortably.

“Well, I can’t let pair of pretty lips like yours go without being kissed.” It points to the glowing wall behind him. “I wasn’t lying.”

The boy groans. “I ain’t lookin to be caught up in no sin.” he warns.

“Ironic.” It states as it reaches out it’s hand. “So, what do you say?” The eyes of the creature shift into a toxic green color and it’s outstretched claw bursts into a flame of the same hue.

He reaches to grab the demons hand but hesitates. “And... What’s stopin you from takin me once we cross over?”

It responds by pointing to it’s neck or at least the feathers that cover it. “I’m a servant. To the living or the dead. As a servant my word is my life, which makes your seal’s honesty kind of redundant.”

“Fine” he growls. 

Grabbing the demons hand he feels a sudden unbearable icy cool as his body bursts into cold flames. The window shines crimson blood into the pitch black room. A chorus of ravens sing over an orchestra of an inferno, car alarms, dogs barking, and clatter. The room dissipates and pixilates into nothing as the world is taken by the screams, police sirens, and weapons firing off into the distance.

"vaccines don't work" yes they do. The fact that most humans alive today have never seen or even heard of a case of the measles, mumps, or whooping cough or contracted it speaks for itself.

While it is true that it's possible to contract a vaccine protected disease even when vaccinated (as vaccines aren't 100% guaranteed protection) they still work. Cases of a vaccinated person contracting that disease are so incredibly rare that most people don't hear about it. Even then being vaccinated would help reduce the severity of the disease and therefore reduce the risk of death or permanent damage to the body.

"my child and I are unvaccinated and we're perfectly fine" you have herd immunity to thank for that. The people around you are smart and vaccinated, lowering the chance of you or god forbid your child contracting these awful diseases.

"I don't want to vaccinate because they cause autism" no they don't. The paper that caused this illogical fear was mainly hypothetical and later debunked. Even some of those in the group who wrote the paper retracted their statements and even requested to have their names removed from the study. Do you people even know how you sound when you say these things? You are basically saying that it's better to be dead then autistic.

"if they don't cause autism then why did autism statistics go up when vaccines where introduced" thats because by the time vaccines where becoming more available the medical community was evolving and becoming better. It's not that autism development was increasing, it was that autism was better diagnosed and reported. Before autism was only diagnosed in those severely affected by it. Now there's a whole spectrum that we know exists in various forms. This is an example of correlation is not causation.

"I don't vaccinate because it's not natural" like it or not there are things in these world that no amount of "organic treatment" will solve. These are diseases your body has never encountered before and pose possibly life threatening risks to your body. Are there benefits to a more organic life style? Yes. Is it a replacement for vaccines and other medicine/medical treatment? No.

Vaccines have helped reduce the cases of life threatening diseases like measles, mumps, whooping cough, etc to almost nothing. Fullmetal Alchemist OG: Episodes 11-12

A filler two-parter. Hooray?

Fullmetal Alchemist Episode 11: "The Other Brothers Elric: Part 1"

The Elrics arrive in Xenotime to look for the philosopher's stone. After they save a young girl, named Elisa, from under a fallen mine cart, she brings them to the tavern out of gratitude. During the feast in their honor, the brothers hear that a philosopher's stone is near completion, researched by a man named Mugear. When the town learns they're the Elric brothers, they get upset, claiming they're frauds. That's when Ed learns there are impostors in town pretending to be Ed and Al. They sneak into Mugear's mansion and find the imposters but are fended off by the older brother impostor. Elisa's uncle, Belsio, takes in Ed and Al, then later sends Al to get some medicine for Elisa. That's where Al meets his imposter counterpart. The younger brother impostor apologizes for taking the Elrics' names and Al urges him to tell his older brother to stop. Meanwhile, Mugear meets underground with Lust, who is apparently behind the plan to make the Philosophers Stone. The following night, Ed and Al sneak into the mansion a second time via underground tunnels but get exposed to toxic, red water. The younger brother impostor helps them get to safety but the older brother impostor wants to continue his father's unfinished work even though the byproducts is making the town sick. Al reveals that the red stone they've made is a poor copy of the Philosopher Stone and the older brother impostor (an alchemist named Russell Tringham) attacks Ed using crimson water. However, the younger impostor (Russell's younger brother Fletcher) dives in the way and gets soaked in the toxic water.

We open by establishing Xenotime is a backwater. Ed suspects they want the Philosopher's Stone so they can make gold, outright saying they can only do so with a Stone. Ed acted like he could make gold without it back in Youswell, but he did still need to use the gold coins as starting materials. So maybe I'm right that spontaneously creating gold has only been theorized.

Ed condenses the mine cart into a smaller metal block to get it off of Elisa.

We get cartoon shifts when the townspeople give the obligatory gag of calling Ed short. I find it appropriate. I think what's notable is that it's more restrained than when Brotherhood usually does it – the whole world doesn't change, only one character. There's even additional humor to be had by having everything else proceed as normal while Ed becomes a caricature, I think.

Elisa starts coughing when she raises her voice. That's dark.

They throw the Elric brothers out in what feels like a parallel of the Youswell episode.

Ed doesn't bother making a fancy door when he alchemizes his way in, just a stone panel.

Ed tells the impostor to get on his knees to beg. The impostor starts going on an elaborate bit about how he must be used to people looking down on him. I approve, that's more clever than what we usually get, and it's extra funny to see character trolling on purpose instead of just being ignorant.

Impostor can transmute without a circle. My initial thought was "wait, so he did human transmutation?" but Ed correctly surmises he has a Philosopher's Stone. Yes, that does make more sense. There's even the red lighting motif to make it clear.

Ed is still injured in the scene after.

We cut to the impostors. Little Bro thinks they should split before things get worse, Big Bro insists he has it all under control, but he'll protect Little Bro if it goes south. That's a nice echo of the Elrics' relationship, and also gives them some sympathy points.

Lust is here! First time we've seen her in a while. She says the Elrics are "frustratingly resourceful" – I guess she's basing that on Liore? It seems a little odd to be giving such glowing praise when she's only seen one performance that could have been a fluke. Unless she's been stalking them in other episodes, but the show has been good about making clear when she's doing that.

Ed is using Al's armor as an icepack for his bruise. Aw, that's cute.

Belsio doesn't believe they're the real Elrics.

Belsio says he couldn't just leave two kids out in the cold. So we're still getting acknowledgement of how absurdly young they are, even now that they're a little older.

Ed still has his bruise the next day.

Ed specifically says it's a crime to use the Philosopher's Stone to make gold.

Al is very forgiving of the impostors, saying they must have their reasons.

The only way Russel could claim he was a State Alchemist as a teenager was to impersonate Ed. Ah, it's good to see reinforcement of how very weird that is.

Their dad was an alchemist, but abruptly disappeared one day. Ah, parallels.

Al tells Fletcher to do the right thing and stop his brother if he knows he's doing the wrong thing. Poor Al, trying to live vicariously through a kid whose older brother actually listens to him.

Al lies to Ed and says he hasn't seen the impostors.

Ed says Russel has been fixing tools to gain goodwill. Our Youswell parallels continue.

Russel uses the red stone to turn a lamp into a… very tiny sword that seems the same size. The sword even cracks under Ed's automail, so he didn't even change it into good metal.

Russel creates a hose to the red water tank, in a parallel to Ed's technique on the train.

Ed turns his automail into an umbrella, because he's too extra to just make a regular shield. I would be concerned that there might be acid in there, but Ed seems to know the makeup of the red water.

Fullmetal Alchemist Episode 12: "The Other Brothers Elric: Part 2"

Ed and Al reluctantly flee the mansion (at the behest of Fletcher) and though Fletcher is not too harmed by the red water, he and his older brother are imprisoned by Mugear when they refuse to use an alternate method to create the crimson stone at a faster rate. Mugear reveals that he knew they were impostors. Back at Belsio's house, the Elrics learn that Nash Tringham, the father of Russell and Fletcher, was the original discoverer/researcher of the Red stone. After the mining town ran out of gold, Mugear convinced Nash that a Red stone would turn lead into gold and make the town prosperous again but the side affects were toxic red water and sick, dying babies. Elisa was one of those babies until a traveling alchemist doctor, Tim Marcoh, healed Elisa with a mysterious method. Mugiar invites the Elrics to help with the Red stone research and Ed tricks him into taking him down to see the imprisoned Tringham brothers. Ed talks to the older Russell and convinces him that his father abandoned the research when he saw the damage and the Tringham brothers need to find their own path. Ed frees them and faces off against Mugear who tries to attack them with a machine powered by Red stones. With Russell's help, Ed injures Mugear and chases him underground. Mugear is ultimately disposed of and the underground mine shaft collapses, causing the crimson water to flood out of the spring. Fletcher uses alchemy to make the trees absorb the water, neutralizing the threat. Edward and Alphonse say farewell to Russell and Fletcher, boarding a train for East City.

Fletcher uses alchemy to make a tree to bar the door. It's not clear where he got the wood from; the floor doesn't deform.

Russel uses the red stone to absorb the red water off of Fletcher, it looks like.

So Fletcher is fine, apparently…? Pretty disappointing after all that buildup about the toxicity. I guess it's ingestion that's the real problem, so he might be okay if he only got it on his skin.

Mugear has a machine that lets non-alchemists use alchemy. That seems unnecessary? Alchemy isn't bloodline magic, anyone can learn it. He uses it to turn the floorboards into rope-like structures and bind the brothers.

Mugear says he knows the real Ed has an automail arm. Yeah, that seems pretty well-known. Russel should have at least tried to fake that.

Marcoh gets an early cameo in the flashback! The Elrics suspect he used a real Stone, so that's an advancement of the main mystery.

Al tries to get Ed to empathize with the Tringhams by pointing out their motivations are similar. Eh, that's not really true, the Elrics don't really care about their dad.

Apparently the red water can be biologically concentrated by feeding it to pregnant women and extracting the fetus. I wonder if it does have some connection to the real ingredient for the Philosopher's Stone?

Ed successfully freaks Mugear out enough to convince him to see the Tringhams alone. Good quick thinking.

Mugear's alchemic guns run out of ammo. It looks like he tries to add more red stone to reload them, so presumably he is creating matter.

Mugear puts a wall in the passage to block them. Ed points out how dumb that is when they have alchemy, but Mugear was actually waiting on the other side with a loaded gun. Clever!

Ed reseals the wall right as Mugear shoots them, so the shockwave explodes on his side and knocks him down. Also clever!

Mugear is crushed by a falling rock. Kinda disappointing, I was hoping we'd see what death by red water looked like.

Ed raises a massive dam around the estate, which is even more ridiculous than Isaac's glacier. Are there energy limits or not, show?

The trees not only absorb all the water, they grow bigger in the process. I guess that's explaining where all the mass goes, but again, what are energy limits.

And then they DESTROY the trees.

The Trighams plan to use their plant alchemy to help on the farm.

Hah, Russel is taller than Ed despite actually being YOUNGER than him! They're really pounding in the stunted growth.

Conclusion

I think there are a lot of comparisons to be drawn here to the Youswell episode. Once again, this is a mining town; the Elrics face persecution; there is an emphasis on money; the villain is a corrupt official. But this version is much more definitively in OG's style. The plot is complex and twisting, with more grounded and sympathetic antagonists, and the problem has less of the way in human causes: Yoki was causing the town's destitution, but Mugear was genuinely trying to save the economy. It's a much darker and more nuanced depiction of the problems that befall mining towns: the problem goes deeper than just a convenient bad actor you can punch in the face. Even when the military isn't around to make a mess of things, resources still dry up, with all the pressures that implies.

But as a story, it's… eh. I like the first episode, but the conclusion is really blah. A lot better than the Psiren episode, but still a bit too messy and meandering, and it once again has a lot of things that don't quite mesh with other alchemic mechanics. Mugear's weapon is really random and nothing like it will ever come up again; the writers really did seem to be leaning on the trope of bloodline magic and normies needing a crutch to do the same things as the protagonist, when that's pretty much the exact opposite of how magic works in this. Possibly we could take it to mean Mugear didn't want to put in the work of actually studying alchemy, but most of the work seems to be the physical and scientific knowledge you need to effectively manipulate materials in the first place.

Similarly, the alchemy at the end is way too high-power. I am willing to suspend my disbelief a little, since it is a clever solution – basically the puzzle equivalent of the ridiculous action powers displayed in Brotherhood, cool if you don't think about it. But I'm not willing to cut OG as much slack, because the main plot is very much going to be about the mechanics of alchemy, and it is absolutely vital that those mechanics – especially the energy requirements – stay consistent. We can't even use the excuse that the anime is just doing its own thing, because the anime-only alchemy exam episode shows very explicitly that doing something far less impressive than what we see here makes alchemists too weak to even stand. It's possible this represents the writers committing to their theory on where the energy comes from, but it still galls me that no one thought to say, "Hey, shouldn't we add a line to mesh this with what we established only 6 episodes ago?"

You can clearly see how the alchemy's… flavor, for lack of a better term, is different from Brotherhood's, though. We don't see everyone having their own special unique alchemy; the Tringhams use varied alchemy just like the Elrics, and even their specialty of plant alchemy is something we've seen before. There is also a much bigger emphasis on non-combat applications.

The attempts to draw parallels between the Elrics and the Tringhams are… off. They get the feel of it right; their personalities and dynamic are similar. But the actual details are so awkward – their motivations are totally dissimilar, despite the attempts to beat the Elrics into the cliché of caring deeply about their missing dad. The writers are still figuring these characters out, and making a lot of missteps along the way.

And… seriously, he couldn't figure out that the Fullmetal Alchemist had something to do with metal? What did he say when he was asked "so why are you called Fullmetal", likely the first question anyone would ask?

Mugear is also a pretty bland and disappointing villain, though at least he's someone I can actually take seriously and not some absurd fop like Yoki.

Hi! I'm interested in witchcraft. Do you have any good information for people who are beginners? Such as safety precautions or symbols.

Hello!! So I have a few tips that may help you figure out this whole twisty thing. Let’s start out with the things you’ve asked for, shall we? 

Safety

First and foremost do your research on everything. Find out what things are safe to use together, what ordinary things can be harmful if used in a certain way (ie. a root of a herb being toxic to the skin but the leaf being fine), and of course double check anything anyone has to say on here or another source. 

Another thing is that a few holidays (Sabbats) or rituals call for the use of fire. Be cautious about these and always make sure you can put the fire out quickly and safely, an open flame isn’t left unattended for more than 15 minutes, when burning to use a fireproof bowl, and move any flammable materials away from the fire. 

If you’re working with entities or doing certain rituals I always find it best to cast a protective circle, wear religious symbols (crosses, rosaries, pentacircles, literally anything), or wear/use stones specifically charged with protective intent. 

Since you’re a beginner I’d suggest starting out small? Like it may sound bad to some people but you need to build up your strength and some things are just straight up dangerous if you don’t have experience with certain things or stamina.  

Don’t be afraid to be wrong! I put this in the safety section because so many people don’t want to be wrong so they go off the little knowledge they have and end up hurting themselves or others. So ask questions, yes even the “dumb” ones, and figure things out before trying something new. 

If you want a mentor watch for signs of abuse. These can include but are not limited to: dismissal of your ideas/thought/feelings, belittling you and your mistakes, making you obey them, discouraging you from finding other sources of information, telling you there’s only one way (their way) to do something, etc.. If these signs appear, cut off contact permanently and find someone else. 

Remember everything can have negative effects. It can be too good at its job or just straight up negative. 

Ouija boards have like 30 rules that you should consider following. These range from things that can help protect you to DO NOT DO AT ALL. Send me a message or another anon if you want me to share these. 

Know your audience. If you’re in an area, home, or around people where it would be dangerous for you to disclose/dress/act like a witch then please don’t. It may be nothing or you may be attacked verbally or physically. 

Try to learn how to build a wall around your mind or other easier techniques (like the bubble) to protect yourself mentally or physically.

I’m not 100% sure what you want for symbols. There are of course religious symbols that go along with some peoples craft but as it’s extremely personal to the practitioner it’s hard to tell you for sure. 

That being said there are these things called sigils are basically symbols created and charged with a specific intent. These range from protection to doing better in daily life. 

Something you may want to look at with symbols is a pentacircle (pentigram in a circle) and the three moon phases (waxing crescent, full, waning crescent) 

Things For You To Look At

Types of witchcraft. You don’t have to choose one, you can dabble in as many as you want. Figure out what is closed to you and what is open. 

Meditation

Stones (natural vs synthetic/ tampered with and what it does) 

Crafts and activities 

Debates. Using glitter vs not. Closed vs open religions/types of crafts. Cursing vs not. Worshipping God(s) vs not. 

Sabbats (holidays) if you’re into that. 

Basic, off the hop, suggested ingredients. Things like candles, stones, herbs, tools. 

What’s an altar? kind of like a place of worship or to practice your craft. How do I make one? By using anything you want on a table or something flat that will support the weight of your supples. Generally with a cloth (any cloth I’m using a scarf for one of mine) and then decorated in any way. Do I need one? No. Can I have more than one? Yes. 

Correspondences. Start out with herbs/plants, stones, colors the element, or anything to do with something you feel you may specifically want to practice. 

Book of Shadows/grimoires and other magical books

Language/short forms. Ie. BOS = Book of Shadows. There is a word for non-magic/witchcraft people. Magic vs Magik vs Magick (a personal preference really)

She is amazing, so creative, incredibly knowledgeable Her recipes sustain us every single day They have this incredible cookbook available on Amazon, and we cook from it all the time And this is one of my favorites We affectionately call them the breads, but they are beyond bread

– Yes, and AnnaBlanca, amazing human, a light worker, a sister girl, and I'm so happy to be here, just really, really happy to be here So what are we doing today? What we're doing today is we're making a coconut flatbread And this flatbread is something that is an answer to people who are vegan, vegetarian, Paleo, or just happy omnivores who want a healthy bread they can make in just a few seconds, literally We're gonna make it right here in front of you We're gonna do it with just a few ingredients

So you aren't gonna be blowing up the kitchen, or opening all kinds of jars We're gonna be able to do this, and it's fat-burning and super food So let's see what we've got here – And it tastes heavenly – If it doesn't taste completely out of the park crazy, then we don't make it

That's how it works So let's start with what our flour is So it's gluten-free and grain-free, so Joy, how do you do that? That is with coconut flour, and this is a sustainably, a sustainably raised coconut flour And that is actually from Nutiva We actually like Nutiva

– Oh, Nutiva is an amazing company – Yes – I love their reputation – It's got a nice little fluffy texture, and we use it in a lot of our different – And I'm matching the bowl We decided that way

– Yes, she's green Our second ingredient, ingredient number two, is psyllium husk So psyllium husk is good, it helps with digestion, it gives you that broom that sweep through the intestine It's all good – Makes you poop

– Fiber when you need it, yes Did you actually say it makes you poop good? – Yes, I said Maybe it was a little bit like under the radar, but you heard me too good – Okay Now, it wasn't Hungarian

You actually said it in English But that's fine Exactly, it actually makes you poop good – I know, right? – So now we've got coconut flour and a little bit of psyllium husk And now we have to give it some Jing

So in here, in this little bowl– – You're speaking the language – That's some maca, that's gelatinized maca This helps to regulate hormones, and you wanna get maca that's gelatinized or prepared As a tine Chinese herbalist, or just an herbalist in general, it was important for me, when I learned, that there's raw maca, and there's maca that's been gelatinized or cooked You want the one that's been gelatinized or cooked

That's the one that you'll be able to get all the nutrients in, so you get more bang for your buck The other thing we have in here is we've got some Celtic sea salt, so we've got all the atomic and monatomic vitamins and minerals from the ocean We also have in here a little bit of black pepper, and the piperine that's in this black organic pepper helps to modulate and bring all these wonderful nutrients into the cell – I put black pepper in everything – And all of your organs will actually absorb it faster because of the pepper

So it modulates And the third thing we have in here is granular garlic, so not garlic powder, not garlic salt, but organic garlic So let's get all that in there And that was, the recipe's in our book This is our quick coconut flatbread

And we're gonna mix all the dry ingredients together And now the star of the show, if you want to make this into a cinnamon bread, you could 86 the savory herbs and use cinnamon or cardamom We're gonna put the star of the show here, which is, this is the rosemary, and it's a fresh rosemary that we actually dry for a little bit, and that's going straight in there, too And that was just two teaspoons And it has eugenol and all these beautiful and amazing volatile oils that really help the system

That's antihistamine, in fact, in the blue zones, especially in Greece, where people live to be more than a hundred, one of the main ingredients they use in pretty much everything is rosemary – Yeah, and I believe it really helps with the nerve regeneration as well – It does, it does So this is coconut oil, it's a little bit of coconut oil, only a quarter of a cup So we're not using a lot of ingredients here

We're gonna be able to feed four people So we've got a quarter cup of coconut oil now in here And the one thing about making breads or pastries, doesn't matter if it's pancakes or, in this case, flatbread, is that gluten-free flours in general are really thirsty flours You're gonna be able to see that in real time when I put the hot water in here So it kind of sucked up the oil, which is nice, 'cause we want the caprylic acid and the capric acid, the lauric acid of that coconut oil working for us

Also, in that coconut oil was an additional teaspoon of- – MCT? – Of brain octane oil, yeah So this makes it a little ketogenic as well Now here comes– – You're hitting all the notes – Now it doesn't look like there's much in this bowl But this is where the magic happens

This is eight ounces of boiling spring water And yes, I said spring water If you're be using any water at all, doesn't matter if you're drinking it or you're using it in a– see how it's just rising to the occasion It looks likes there's way too much And now all of the sudden, we're gonna have this beautiful dough, just like that

– Oh – You need, this is smell-a-vision Jason Wrobel, shout out to brother Jason Wrobel Smell-a-vision is his idea Taste-a-vision, smell-a-vision

You can smell the rosemary, you can smell that garlic Oh my gosh, silliness and– – Oh, and when you bake it, the entire house just filled with that scent Makes me so hungry – Now, see, it's gonna take a couple seconds for it to actually suck up all the rest of that water And rather than take the time to show you how you, the way you make this, now that's it's literally a dough, I'm gonna get my hands in this in just one second

Finish is getting all of that of that moisture – Oh, I can bring the ones in the paper to show you – Well, the ones that are finished, we're gonna look at this guy up here – Yes – So this dough, I'm gonna handle this dough for you first

And, yes, I've washed my hands And, no, I'm not wearing gloves, even thought I cater and I private chef for a lot of red carpet people, a lot of amazing humans, based on being in their kitchen, my hands are super-clean, and I don't need to wear gloves, 'cause we're gonna be eating this So you can just cut this right in half, you can make six breads out of this right with your hands You don't have to roll this, you don't have to use any, yeah, right in your hand Beautiful just like that

And you want it to be about a quarter of an inch thick Any thinner than that, it won't have as much flexibility But these make beautiful– Oops, see, there we go, there we go Really beautiful paninis, it also makes a really good pizza, personal pan pizza, they freeze gorgeous Now you can freeze it just like this

And if you don't have time to do it in a pan,– – I put it in between brown paper, and never make less than quadruple your entire recipe, because we love it that much And then just have them in a box in the fridge, in the freezer, take them out and boom, ready for breakfast within minutes – Yeah, and these are good in toaster ovens when they're done These are good in a bowl Just you put it on parchment just in the oven if you don't have time to watch it

But the way you would get it from this to this is just, in a non-toxic enamel pan, you can do it with just a little bit of coconut oil, or none at all, and do one side and then the other And as it browns evenly, you know it's done As you press on it, you can tell that it's done all the way through So that's what it looks like just before it goes into the pan And then this is what it looks like when it comes out of the pan, ready to eat

– Amazing – And so, for Mother's Day, we could do something This is a little probiotic cheese, this is a cashew cheese This is an entirely vegan meal, which actually works for our Paleo friends as well, 'cause there's no, there's no grains So this is a probiotic cashew cheese that I've gone ahead and put something that we foraged from North Carolina, right from our property, and that's some morels

So I pan sauteed a little bit of morels, and I put them in the cheese with a little bit of CP1 custom probiotics, and the custom probiotics went into the cheese when it was cold, not into the hot pan You don't want that hot, the probiotics in the hot pan Put it into that cashew cheese, and now I've got a gut-building– – Oh my God – Beautiful, probiotic yum-yum, and we're gonna put some pine nuts on here, and a little bit of, if you have sliced avocado, we've got a little bit of avocado dressing to put on here, and some greens – All right, hand it over, woman

I will do the taste testing for everybody – I love to make these beautiful and spiralize some beets and some carrots, and then we're ready to go There we go There we go – Who's envying me now? – That's right

And they keep that beautiful, bendable, it's almost like a pita, only it's more tender than the pita, it has a lot more flavor And you can swing those sweet as well Like I said, you can take out the– – Garlic? – The spices and the garlic, and do cinnamon and a little bit of lakanto We're gonna do that next in our next little segment, we're gonna do some ice cream So there you have it

Gold may be the most prized of earthly materials, but the magickal gleam of silver puts it (traditionally) in second place. Silver was one of the first metals known to the ancients—the Bible mentions riches of gold and silver. Silver deposits are found in nature, but (unlike gold) rarely in a pure state. Over the centuries, miners and crafters learned to take this dark grey rock and turn it into tools and ornaments of luminous beauty. Its Latin name, argentum, comes from the Sanskrit, arj-una (“light”).

Just as gold is linked to the vibrant hue of the Sun, the gentler glow of silver is tied to the Moon. Its Lunar qualities were observed by the ancient Egyptians, who represented the metal with the emblem of a circle. Later on, medieval alchemists codified silver as one of the seven planetary metals and attributed it to the Moon. This old association with reflection, receptivity, and lunar goddesses is the strongest influence on silver’s magickal heritage.

Correspondences of Silver

As a Lunar material, silver corresponds to all attributes of Moon magick. Dreams, visions, psychic perception, wishes and blessings all fall under the domain of Lunar magick. As the Moon controls the ebb and flow of the tides, silver is linked more broadly to the magick of Water—love, healing, sensuality, and patient force. In Place of Silver

Can you use another metal in a working that calls for silver? Yes and no.

Industrially, there is no real replacement for silver—it has unique traits that simply do not belong to other elements. Alchemists would probably say the same thing about its spiritual properties.

On the other hand, other materials may have properties that are perfectly compatible with your magick. And as practical magicians, we know that it doesn't make sense to take out a second mortgage to buy ingredients for a spell. Your imagination and intention are far more important than what substances are on the altar.

When silver is out of the question, silver-coloured aluminium and pewter objects may be used. Silver-grey paint and fabric can impart a silver-y feel to a budget altar—but do avoid toxic materials like lead-containing alloys and metallicised plastic. Personally, I prefer non-ferrous metals as silver substitutes, as steel has a Mars resonance that is out of place in Lunar workings.

One caveat? Don't cut corners when making offerings to spirits and the more discerning Fae. If you're seriously broke, your frugality may be excusable, but laziness and cheapness will diminish your working to say the least. (Especially when the expense is small, like a silver dime.) Be classy and get the real thing whenever possible.

Caring for Silver

All silver articles will eventually tarnish from exposure to the air. Generally, the lower the silver content, the faster the item will tarnish. While it diminishes the gleam of your silver, tarnish is harmless and only affects the outer layer of the metal. A commercial jewellery polish (or one of many household remedies) will have your silver looking all shiny again.

Magickally speaking, silver is not a material that holds negative energy (or any energy) indefinitely. It has a natural nobility and fluidity. You can think of silver as a stream—anything poured into it will linger for a while, and then pass on. For this reason, silver doesn’t ever need to be “cleansed” in the traditional sense. (Though you may still wish to attune used items to your specific purposes.) To keep them working effectively, recharge your silver tools every lunar cycle.

Elderberry Offers Edible and Medicinal Benefits

My first experience with elderberries came when my husband and I moved to the country to build our first home. We purchased land that was pretty much untouched as far as wild edibles went. My mom, a natural forager, went with me to take a look at the land. “You have a paradise here,” she said. Mom pointed out a copse of elderberry bushes along the side of our property. That summer and for years after, we made batch after batch of beautiful, tasty elderberry jelly. I was hooked on this gift from Mother Nature.

The common, edible, elderberry bushes are Sambucus Canadensis and Sambucus Nigra, also known as American elderberry and black elderberry. But these dark purple berries go beyond the kitchen. Elderberry syrup and tea are healthful, natural, and might I say yummy medicines.

Easy To Grow

Elderberries are so easy to grow that you may find volunteers sprouting. Elderberries will tolerate many growing conditions. And if you’re looking for flowers that attract bees, elderberry is a bee magnet.

Even a small patch of elderberry bushes provides shelter for small animals. Birds are constant visitors, but keep in mind that deer like them too.

Not All Parts Are Edible!

Elderberry flowers are on my edible flowers list, and fritters, cordials, and liqueurs made from flowers are a gourmet treat. Berries should be eaten when fully ripe and not eaten raw. Roots, stems, and leaves are toxic and should not be eaten.

Use Scissors to Harvest

Elderberry fruit will hang heavy on the stem when ripe. Snip the entire cluster. We use our gloved hands (to prevent staining) to “rake” berries from stems.

I’m sharing my favorite elderberry recipes and hope you find them as delicious, and useful, as I do.

Elderberry Jelly

Jelly is at the top of the list when it comes to using elderberries. This recipe makes about five eight-ounce jars

Ingredients

3 cups prepared juice (3 pounds ripe elderberries)

1/4 cup lemon juice

1 box dry fruit pectin, 1.75 oz.

4-1/2 cups sugar, measured into separate bowl

You need lots of berries for jelly!

Instructions

Remove and discard large stems from elderberries. Place stemmed berries in the pan. Crush the fruit.

Cook on medium heat until juice starts to flow, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Pour into a jelly bag. Hang and let drip into bowl until dripping stops. Press gently to exude juice.

Sterilize jars and keep them hot.

Pour boiling water over flat lids and rings in pan off the heat. Let stand in hot water until ready to use.

Measure exactly 3 cups prepared juice into 8-quart pan or jelly pan. (If necessary, add up to 1/2 cup water for exact measure.)

Stir in lemon juice.

Stir pectin into juice. Bring mixture to a full rolling boil (a boil that cannot be stirred down) on high heat, stirring constantly.

Stir in sugar. Return to a full rolling boil and boil exactly one minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat.

Skim off any foam with metal spoon.

Skim off foam.

Ladle immediately into hot, sterile jars, filling to within a quarter of an inch of tops. Wipe rim of the jar with a wet cloth to remove any traces of jelly, which may prevent a proper seal. Cover with lids and screw bands on tightly.

Jelly ready for sealing

Turn upside down on the counter for five minutes to remove any bacteria that may be on the inside lid.

Place upright to cool completely. After jars cool, check seals by pressing the middle of the lid with finger. (If lid springs back, it’s not sealed and refrigeration is necessary.)

Store in pantry up to a year. If you decide to make elderberry jam instead of jelly, you may wonder just how long does jam last. No worries, same as jelly — up to a year.

Tip

Elderberry jelly sometimes takes a while to set. It may set right away or take up to a week.

Elderflower Cordial

Elderflower Cordial is sometimes called elderflower syrup. The citric acid/fruit protector acts as a preservative. This is non-alcoholic and can sub in for elderflower liqueur in recipes.

Ingredients

25 to 30 elderflowers

1-1/2 quarts water

2 pounds cane sugar

3 tablespoons citric acid or produce protector, like Ball’s Fruit Fresh (optional)

2 each organic lemons and oranges, sliced thick

Instructions

If necessary, rinse elderflowers gently and drain.

Place water and sugar together in a pan. Bring to a boil. Let cool.

Stir in the produce protector, lemons, oranges, and flowers. Stir to combine.

Cover with a cloth and let infuse on the counter for one to two days, stirring occasionally.

Strain through cheesecloth or a fine strainer (you may have to do this a couple of times to clarify cordial) and pour into sterilized jars or bottles.

Store in refrigerator up to six months or freeze for one year.

Serve in small cordial glasses

For a dinner cordial, I like to serve in cordial/liqueur glasses straight up.

It’s also delicious with a splash of sparkling wine or champagne or stirred into a chilled glass of staghorn sumac lemonade.

Elderflower cordial.

Elderflower Liqueur

Give credit to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry for giving this venerable liqueur a popularity boost. It was one of the ingredients in their wedding cake. This liqueur is expensive to buy but budget-friendly to make.

Ingredients

20 large elderflowers

Zest of 1 large lemon

1 liter vodka

1/2 cup water

1/2 to 3/4 cup extra fine granulated sugar

Instructions

If necessary, gently rinse and drain elderflowers. Snip flowers from thick stems, leaving only thin stems attached to the flowers.

Place in a large sterilized jar.

Add lemon zest and vodka. Vodka should completely cover the flowers and zest. This keeps the flowers from turning brown. (I like to crumple a piece of parchment on top of the mixture to keep everything under the vodka and zest).

Let infuse in a cool place away from light for two to four weeks.

Place water and sugar in a pan. Bring to a boil to dissolve sugar. Let cool.

Strain infusion through cheesecloth or fine strainer. (You may have to do this a couple of time to clarify the infusion).

Stir in half the sugar syrup and taste. Add more if you like. I add all of the syrup.

Pour into sterilized jars or bottles.

Let mature in a cool place away from light for at least two months or a bit less.

Store in pantry up to a year.

Serve straight up or add to drinks and recipes.

Elderflower liqueur

Elderberry Tea

You can use either flowers or berries. I like fresh berries for the color and taste they impart.

Ingredients and Instructions

For every 8 ounces of boiling water, use about 2 tablespoons fresh berries or 1 tablespoon dried berries.

Honey or sweetener to taste

Pinch cinnamon (optional)

Let steep 10 minutes or so. Strain. Enjoy hot or cold.

Benefits of Elderberry Tea

Your body absorbs liquids faster than solids, so this tea is good for a lagging appetite.

The tea hydrates and may shorten the duration and severity of colds and flu.

Medicinal Elderberry Syrup from Berries

Rosemary Gladstar and I met when we both presented at a conference. Rosemary talked about winter ills and natural ways to cure them. Elderberry syrup is one of her recommended medicines. It’s an effective natural cold remedy and can also be used for flu and upper respiratory ailments. It tastes yummy!

Ingredients

2 cups fresh ripe elderberries or 3/4 cup dried berries

4 cups water

1-inch piece smashed ginger root

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon cloves

Organic raw honey to taste

Instructions

Bring everything but honey to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and cook until reduced by half.

Pour through a strainer, cool to room temperature and add honey.

Store in refrigerator up to three months or freeze up to six months.

Standard Dose for Adults

Enjoy a tablespoon daily to keep the immune system strong. At the onset of a cold or flu, I’ll take a tablespoon every four hours.

Standard Dose for Children at the Onset of Cold or Flu

It’s recommended to take a half to one teaspoon every four hours.
