you two meet in college, and it’s a rocky start at first. you two do NOT like each other— you’re both tennis players, fighting for the top spot on the woman’s tennis team. you guys push each other to be the best, which obviously creates tension.

you guys can’t seem to escape each other either. whenever you’re in the food court, she’s just a few tables away with her boyfriend and his friend. when you’re entering the locker room, she’s always there before you, already in uniform. you began to loath her and she felt the exact same.

you guys weren’t friends in the slightest, not until her injury. you remembered the sound of her bone cracking, the yelling coming from the infirmary, how it was the first time you saw her cry. you were lingering in the hallway, something in your heart pulling you closer and closer to the room— but you couldn’t enter. it felt too… intimate for you guys.

however, you forced yourself (as her teammate) to go see her. she was in the infirmary for days on end, and every day you came to keep her company. even sleeping over one time when it got too late to walk back to your dorm. you never expected to become tashi’s friend, but that warm feeling in your stomach whenever you were around her was nice and you didn’t want it going away.

you guys continued to spend every waking second together even after she left the infirmary, spending the night at each others dorms, playing on the court together, studying for classes. it was like you two became attached at the hip.

and you were still teammates. but you didn’t know how to explain to your friends that you two were the type of teammates that kiss whenever they say hello or goodnight, that one time tashi almost let an ‘i love you’ slip out of her mouth, and how you two talk about your guys future late at night when you can’t sleep.
