UM. what a weird first actual post for my blog for this year... this is long, and i miss making ACTUAL blog posts instead of small threads... And i've explained on my twitter my thoughts on Hazbin / Helluva from a critical standpoint and artist from art separation, yadda yadda yadda---

ANYWAY... Episodes 1 and 2 of Hazbin are (Officially) out now, and i have some thoughts on the characters i wrote down after watching (In bullet points, because most of these are fresh-from-the-brain thoughts i wrote on my tablet from my bed)

(Spoiler alert, Sir Pentious isn't ruined and I AM SO GLAD. my snake babygirl... ilu)

CHARLIE NOTES

-Charlie is good., Charlie is cute, but i fear for her safety, not everyone can new redeemed. she's like steven universe at points i stg 😭 (not a jab but i think it's funny)

-i like how they gave Charlie bags under her eyes a lot, she is a tired princess just like all of us

-She gives off elementary school teacher vibes but in a wholesome way

-Charlie's hair is SO CUTE MESSY..

(Where do those fucking tentacles come from, also weird monochrome demons)

-Interesting he was gone for 7 years. 7 is an angelic number. HMMMMMM (sealed away by angels somehow??)

-Punchable (Vaggie please)

-Weirdly enjoyable and not genuinely hateable like some of the other characters, but i also want to see his demise, maybe his sadism is rubbing off on me, but i want to see it badly...

Anon’s crack AU about Alastor having Roo, Lilith, and Lucifer existing/arguing in his head. I propose we call it Relationship Therapist Alastor AU (bolded so mods don’t have to read). That is what Alastor’s life has devolved into.

Did Lucifer figure out he could do this before or after meeting Alastor in canon? I like to think it was before so whenever Charlie talks about dreading talking to her father because he thinks she’s a failure, Alastor is genuinely tweaking. He has not been able to get Lucifer to shut the fuck up about how much he loves his kid for eight months straight, and he knows all too well about the parental alienation Lilith pulled because that has been a topic of arguments for a solid year. 

Alastor has to decide if he’s going to resolve this conflict himself by revealing he’s got both her parents and also Roo in his head, or borderline force Charlie to call Lucifer to get the man out of his head for at least an afternoon and get the conflict resolved that way.

I have seen two episodes of the new Rings of Power season so far and I love so. Spoilers for those ones (I will be getting on to the rest)

Charlie Vickers I have no idea how you manage to become an ageless terrifying alluring evil but kudos. Because even just in his eyes, you can see it - that sense of not even immortality but beyond time, beyond space. And also how Sauron works! Like thank you for the terrifyingly competent evil!

it's been almost 24 and i've collected my thoughts:

1. this was insane (as i've stated)

2. the eddie munson hare was not what i was expecting (although i should have seen that coming), i was definitely thinking bug was thinking he was selling to dustin. it was heartbreaking. her little brother! her code blues! i've been WAITING for bug to be on lucas's side about this and i've been WAITING for steve and bug supporting lucas (i definitely don't have top secret plans to write my steve fic as a parallel to lumax...)

3. the arguement was insane. i had forgotten that you said it was coming and i was SHOCKED AND APPALLED to say the least. it genuinely killed me. this is what i am still speechless about. it hurt my heart to see them actually fight, with both of their abandonment issues!!!

4. the phone call? was nuts. in that state i would not be as strong as bug. i would be questioning everything. also... FINAL? words to your best friend? is this foreshadowing? is bug dying? i don't exactly know how one would continue an x reader fic without the reader but i feel like you could do it tbh. i definitely think this is unlikely but i do have questions that i don't expect you could answer rn and i needed to raise this.

i loved this chapter and i am so excited for everything yet to come!!! ilu

…so…. Thoughts on the last two season 1 episodes of Hazbin? 💀 I didn’t really like the finale and need someone to talk to about it-

@yumiburrito I got your other ask and don't worry about it. I have no problem talking about Hazbin on this blog too being both shows are sorta connected with each other in some way. Anyways, thoughts under the cut being there will be some spoilers:

My views on the last two episodes, and really the whole season as a whole is meh. I didn't hate it, but I sure didn't love it. It's a show that has it's moments but it's undercut by it's crazy fast pacing plus some of those moments just don't feel earned because there's no build up for a true pay off.

I will say this tho: I'm glad Sir Pent got into Heaven if only because how underwhelming and stupid his death was. It was played as a joke and I'm suppose to...care? Sir Pent deserves the world however and I hope him and Emily become best friends and she tells Charlie about him so Frank (the last of the egg bois) can reunite with his dad. Ilu silly snake man you deserve better by Viv.

Carlima or whatever her name was is cool I guess and she had more chemistry with Vaggie than Charlie does.

And as much as I love watching Vox screaming and being unhinged watching Alastor getting his ass kick as if he was watching The Super Bowl, I felt the moment with Vee's took me out of the seriousness of the fight (or at least how serious you can take it with how much cursing is flying back. I have a sailors mouth and I'm no where this bad). I love Vox, he's a lot of fun and the highlight of the show for me.

If anything, I find Hazbin more frustrating than anything else. There were moments that dare I say I was having fun watching and the music while still a mix bag still had some bangers in there. I think the music was honestly the thing Hazbin has going for it putting aside each song varying in quality.

Will I watch the second season when it airs? Most likely being I'm invested enough regardless if this trainwreck continues to stay on the rails or not. That's more than I can say with Helluva Boss which at this point I'm done with outside of writing my AU and interacting within the RPC because all the show does for me now is piss me off. I may still watch an epsoide or two if Fizzorali and/or Ozzie pop up being their my faves but even then Viv kinda butchered them and took away their bite.

I'm gonna yank them out of her coldhearted hands! They're mine now. So is the rest of the cast minus Stolas. She can keep that sad stack of shit.

Overall, I'll give Hazbin and 4 or 5 out of 10. Maybe it's too generous of a score but I can't make myself hate the show itself. Vivizpop herself on the other hand is a whole other can of worms but I think there are those who do a much better time digging into how much of a horrible person she is than I am. I just want to talk about this silly trashbin of a show(s).

Some thoughts on Heartstopper s2:

Overall, I liked Tara and Darcy's arc, but I wish it had been set up better. I got the impression in s1 that Tara and Darcy have been dating forever, maybe even since they were like 13-14, and I just can't believe that the ilu issue hadn't come up yet. Particularly on a show like this when even platonic friends will say ilu to each other all the time. I think a better way to set up the sl would've been:

show Tara saying ilu to Darcy without expecting reciprocation, portrayed like it's something she does all the time.

show Tara longingly watching Nick and Charlie saying ilu to each other.

have Tara say ilu to Darcy now with the hope/expectation that Darcy will say it back.

everything else takes place exactly as it did on the show.

Similarly, I loved Tao and Elle's arc. I was really looking forward to their getting together after s1, and throughout the season I was 😍😍😍😍. I just didn't connect with Elle's mood after the movie date. I guess I myself would've been disappointed, but not to that extent, and so that part didn't work for me.

While I'm glad that Imogen will be wlw (more in a sec), a part of me wishes she hadn't been just to compare the way people reacted to her character in s1 vs s2. Because really, Imogen acted exactly the same in both seasons (it was the way the dude treated her that changed), but I can't imagine people would have the same reactions towards her with Nick vs towards her with Ben.

I do hope Imogen will be a lesbian, mostly because of the lesbian lighting. That being said, I wish it was Sahar who got the self-discovery arc. In the end though, I want a wlw to get the Heartstopper self-discovery arc, and I look forward to whatever happens with Imogen (and Sahar!).

I was also looking forward to Isaac's arc and it didn't disappoint. I think Isaac is the first explicitly ace character (maybe also aro?) with a self-discovery arc I've watched, and I was really interested in how it was going to be portrayed. I love Isaac's actor's smile, I think he's so cute.

Olivia Colman put her whole pussy into that family dinner scene, whew! Nick's mom's role wasn't that large, but she stole the show with her facial expressions and her whole "I just don't know wtf is wrong with this man!" attitude.

I feel sorry for Ben despite his whole evil Mark Owen thing, but I also like that Alice Oseman chose not to redeem him. I am mighty tired of bullies and abusers getting half baked redemption arcs (hi Druck s7 and s8), and it's plausible for Ben to just not be there yet. I think Heartstopper as a comic and show has people being lovely more often than not. So I think it's a brave choice not to redeem Ben, and let us give him a happier ending in our mind if we so wish.

And on that note I really appreciate that Heartstopper allows its characters to call out bullies, abusers, bad parents, and tells its audiences they don't have to forgive bad treatment if they don't want to. For a show that's been so criticized for being wholesome (i.e. sexless) and, for that reason, not ~challenging~ enough, I think allowing its characters not to forgive is actually a subtly subversive choice. I think just about any other teen show would've made Charlie allow his former bullies into the party because the ringleader had been a bit nicer in the Eiffel Tower. Imo it's details like that that show an actually queer person is behind the show, compared to the shows produced, written or directed by straight people.

I WANNA HEAR ABOUT LEIT MOTIF THAT IS THE COOLEST FUCKING NAME EVER

Well I didn’t really come up with the name, @tealottie did (hai Missy ilu), but I came up with basically everything else. Leit Motif has sound manipulation powers which I haven’t fully worked out yet.

His backstory so far is that he got a career in the music industry but ran into some conflict with his label. Motif wanted to be a full on popstar (his ideal image is inspired by the likes of artists such as Electra Heart era MARINA and Charli xcx) but the label wanted a softer image. He gave in, but the album flopped because he didn’t put much effort into it.

Eventually Motif discovered that the songs he wrote were given to another singer (who in my head is named Valerie Valentine, but she mainly exists as a concept at the moment) and by then he had developed a massive ego so he tried sabotaging her career. Valerie was beloved by the industry and the general public, so Motif became infamous even before gaining powers and becoming a super villain.

I haven’t fully worked out a lot of the story stuff, but I still rotate Motif in my head like crazy. He’s a bitch and thinks himself better than just about everyone, except the Fearsome Four (not the Five, as his ego is almost enough to rival Negaduck’s own ego and their personalities clash a ton). I originally made him for the sole purpose of shipping with Quackerjack and I LOVE their dynamic. They are peak ‘I can make him worse’. And they do make each other worse.

Can you tell from the length of this response how much brainrot I’m having over this dumbass
