The fragrances she uses are most often are vanilla scented. And, if not that, she tends to gravitate more towards sweet &/ or fruity scents or spice scents, such as: coconut, black cherry, berries, cinnamon, coffee, pumpkin. . . Bath & Bodyworks had two seasonal fragrances I always pictured her loving ( 1. Pastel Skies — "soft cloud berries, pink spun sugar, & coconut musk" and then 2. Sweet Whiskey — "golden amber, vanilla-infused whiskey, & sweet red berries" ). That said, what she views as overly sweet, such as birthday cake or frosting, she tends to avoid.

I actually don't think I've brought up her favourite colour ! Amazing. Obviously, she loves red, it's her whole ✨thing✨, but if you actually asked her to pick out ONE favourite ? It's #facbdf ! It's the colour she painted the walls in her and Lindsay's first PI office, and she's incorporated into every office she's had since. Makes her nostalgic, a little at peace for a few seconds.

The venom that courses through Jessica's veins is what turns her irises the green colour they are. Naturally blue, her eyes fade back to their genetic shade whenever powers are weak ⸺ like when she's brought back to life and her abilities fluctuate. Or, to a lesser extent, whenever she needs some time to recover from a fight, they fade juuust a little while she heals. It varies if it's noticeable or not.

three things your character likes doing in their free time: 

Riding around Manhattan and Queens on her motorcycle, somehow there's always something new to see ⸺ as well as the comforting familiar.

Puzzles ! Solitaire ! Sudoku ! Brain teasers ! Crossword ! Simple problem-solving games and things of the like. Basically anything you can find in an adult activity book at the gas station.

Rewatching some of her favourite movies, such as: Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan, Alien, The Karate Kid, Short Circuit, Total Recall, Heat, Sean Connery era Bonds, or really any 7/8/90's era martial arts, action, sci-fi or horror movie. She's got a lot of genres she likes the most and couldn't chose between if you asked her to, but most carry some significant theme to her: such as the main character being a detective or spy, a science experiment gone wrong, the strength of friendship and how much it can mean, standing up for your morals and values, or it's got a mentorship of some kind ⸺ usually a paternal one. It's not something she really realises she does.

two things your character regrets:

A lot of her anger, and the way that causes her to reaction in some situations and towards others. How she lashes out, and how venomous fists and words are always her first instinct. . . And how this has occasionally hurt those she holds closest.

Retiring her private investigator agency in Madripoor. After some time, her and Lindsay return to San Francisco, where Linds begins taking classes to become a professional stuntwoman, and Jess starts to take up more jobs wherever she can find them ( including all the way to places like Istanbul ! Lindsay went along for that one — ). This leads to her being on the east coast / in New York more often than she'd have ever thought. And, the more she's out there, the more she's encouraged to allow HYDRA restabilise her powers, which she eventually agrees to ⸺ only for it to turn out to by the Skrulls in disguise. So, tl;dr, she feels leaving Madripoor lead to her getting abducted, and allowing the Skrulls to fully return her powers resulted in the Skrull Invasion since Veranke, the queen, chose to impersonate her. After that has been a mixed bag that has a lot of good, but sometimes, she wonders. . .

EXTRA butter — this is the woman who ate sixteen sticks of butter in one sitting while she was pregnant, so she wants that popcorn so buttery she can see her reflection in the sheen on her fingers.

The salt is deffo covered by the butter at the rate she uses it, I'd say.

No colour, she gets just regular popcorn when she goes to the movies — except she goes over and loads it with all that butter just mentioned. Occasionally she'll flavour the popcorn with buffalo or nacho cheese from the shakers they've got in cinemas. But she's definitely most about the classic butter taste. She kind of likes caramel popcorn, but she's more into savoury flavours.

Unless she's got a reason to unpack, the clothes come out as she uses them, and then into the wash. Things that make her unpack as soon as she gets home: there's another mission / assignment / ect shortly after she returns, she'll unpack to clean and repack. Or, she got something really nice while she was away, like a gift, or a dress (👀👀), then she'll want to take it out, and she might as well unpack the whole way when she's started.

Also, speaking of vacations and packing, as a little note, this is also how she packs up her suitcase:

I imagine this technique was something mentioned offhandedly to her one day by a friend ( i.e. Carol, Fury, Logan, y'know ), and she ends up loving it — finding the fact she it takes up less space, as well as makes her clothes less wrinkly, to be awesome. She only does it with shirts and pants, though. Because, "socks are socks and underwear is underwear, it takes up the same amount of space whether it's balled up or folded."

BUTTER

This has taken me so long to answer because I didn't want to just be like "it's everything", but truly she enjoys just about anything so much, that there isn't really a favourite. Cayenne, garlic, paprika, Cajun, salt, from various mixes and rubs, savoury and sweet alike, even down to coriander/cilantro ( she doesn't get why people think it tastes like soap ) — all of it. There's hardly anything she doesn't like.

Say she has to be up at 8:30? Her alarms have to go 8:05, 8:10, 8:15, ect all the way up until the time as she's very prone to hitting that snooze button, and she can't quite manage to fall asleep in five minutes before the next alarm goes off. She's up since the first one, and after enough alarms, she's done enough with them to get up and grab some coffee.

She uses an alarm clock for a really long time, like just a regular old:

one of these mo'fos, she thrifted it back in the San Francisco days and she's had it ever since. I'm like, 90% sure this can be set to the radio as an alarm? If so, that's definitely what she does. If not, it's that god awful beeping iykyk.

SOMEONE, likely a significant other at some point, finally gets her using her phone - either because radio has a loud DJ and they don't wanna get up yet, or so they don't have to hear that beeping.

She does fast food a lot — it's cheap, easy and, well, fast. Her life is basically one big exercise routine. Which, this is also why she's so hungry: she's got that healing factor, and so her cells are able to regenerate that fast. . . imagine how much energy that uses in the body ?? And Jessica refuels her energy from food. She would be ( and was ) a foodie even without her powers, but constantly healing from traumatic bodily harm everyday certainly helps.

Loves, loves, loves greasy — within reason. A fresh, greasy, meat-lovers pizza ? A double-stacked bacon cheeseburger ? Absolutely. But greasy fries ? The ones that soak the to-go bag ? No, no, not those.

Jessica's favourite places to go are joints like Shake Shack, Five Guys, or just the most nondescript food truck in some random part of the city ends up serving the best food. Plus, bonus for local business ! Makes her feel good.

Long shower or short?

I imagine for a long time, the solitude of a shower was the safest place Jessica had. A place totally to herself, a place to wash away the grime and filth of her day ― to feel rejuvenated, fresh and new. She has a regeneration healing factor, and as it works on repairing her cells, I picture the warmth of a long shower would be incredibly relaxing.

So, long showers ― not only for the peace and solitude, but also because the heat, warm water, and steam all feel nice, too.

Which movies do they like?

She really loves '70s & 80's kung fu / martial arts movies. They were some of the first movies she watched once she was free from Hydra. And, given her exceptional background in martial arts, she enjoys the fight sequences a lot ― especially the ones that are absolutely unhinged, where people are just flying around.

It takes away the realism of the film for most ― but, ironically for her, since she's able to do things like spider-crawl straight up the sides of buildings, as well as "fly"/glide (she glides, she doesn't fly), it adds to the realism of it.

That being said, despite enjoying the over-the-top nature of some martial arts films, her favourite is The Karate Kid. It had recently came out when she'd escaped, and it's what got her into the genre in the first place. It holds a special place in her heart, she could quote it line for line.

Do they run to the door when the food arrives or wait for the delivery guy to knock?

You know those little kids that stand there with their hands against the window, giant grin plastered to their face as they refuse to leave? Just stand there in waiting?

For a long time, Jessica didn't know if her mother, Miriam, was dead or alive. After a few decades passed, she assumed her mother — if she had been living — died of old age. However, her more prevailing theory was that her mother had been killed by Hydra. It made sense to her, having been in stasis for so long, the Wundagore lab torn to shreds when she finally awoke. And Hydra came for her not long after that, knowledgeable on herself more than even she was (Though in actuality, her mother was killed the night Jessica went into stasis — going for a walk on the mountainside only to be killed by a neighbouring werewolf.)

There was a brief incident when Jessica was still young, when facing the Viper (Ophelia), both the women had been tricked into thinking Ophelia was Miriam, but this had turned out to be false memories implanted into her by Morgan Le Fay — all to hurt Jess.

Jessica didn't know her mother for long, having fallen ill when she was only five years old, and being put into stasis mere weeks later. But she does remember her mother doing everything she could to nurse Jess back from her radiation poisoning without forcing her to sleep.

Jess loved her for that.

As for her father, Jonathan, Jessica harboured more complicated and less favourable feelings towards him. While maybe he thought he was doing the best he could, he still condemned Jessica to an unknown fate by pumping her full of his experimental spider DNA. She felt sometimes as though she were little more than a lab rat to him.

At first, she had looked for him, too. Wanting answers, closure, connection. . . But when she found out the truth, she cared only for finding answers and her mother.

She still has difficult feelings towards him, wanting to love or at least miss him, but she felt a stinging pang when she thinks of him.

The first person truly feel like a father to her was Magnus, her sorcerer mentor. He was the first person to treat Jessica like, well, a person: capable of her own thoughts and feelings, her own sense of agency. The two shared a deep fondness for each other.

She admired him. She looked up to him.

Nick Fury meant a great deal to her, too. The man she was sent to kill bringing her out of the darkness, convincing her to go her own path. He always trusted her, always took care of her. Whenever Jessica was put into a position of leadership, Fury always came to mind as someone to emulate.

Jessica has considered Carol Danvers family for practically as long as the two had known each other. The woman who has been to hell and back multiple times, who still has so much love and care to give. Who fought through her own demons, as well as battled the worst from the world — from the universe. Carol she admires most.

Oh yes, she loves spicy food. During her days living in Madripoor, she tried lots of different spicy dishes, definitely developed a taste for them. She doesn't go out of her way to make dishes hot sans a few. ( Like, if she has wings, her dip is going to be BBQ sauce, but she likes hot wings too, you get what I mean?? ). One of the meals she loves hot sauce with is instant-ramen. Just instantly makes the ramen 10xs better.

She grew really fond of Red Leicester when she lived in London - the closest she can get in the States is a sharp cheddar, so she settles, it's good too.

On that note, she's definitely one of those people who has a mountain of parmesan on her spaghetti — and on her salads from Olive Garden.

In general, she likes rice, can't go wrong with it — whether seasoned with lemon and herbs, vegetables, or just salt and pepper. Though as a snack, she prefers it ( and I cannot believe you've given me the opportunity to touch on her butter obsession again ) just white rice with a bunch of of butter thrown in. Half the time she adds some garlic to it, but just rice and butter is more than fine.

So when she purchases chocolate now, she swings for Ghirardelli, or even something a bit more pricey like Godiva — their dark chocolate truffles are her favourite !

i think i've mentioned it in places but never stated in anywhere or tagged it ? but she was in san francisco in the 80's, and i write her as a bisexual woman (it's canon idc), who was either dating or had feelings for her roommate, lindsay mccabe ― so, personally, i think she'd be super into drag. she's really innocent and curious at this time, a whole world of discovery just awaiting her. the sisters of perpetual indulgence had JUST started in 1979, and she arrived shortly after. with her strong sense of justice, i feel like she'd take an interest in them, even keeping up with them after she moves away.

i love that i got this twice, because i have so many favourite tropes. i'm going to go with 'pretending to be a couple for some mission but they secretly have big old crushes on each other'. 10/10, never fails me.
