Know that I am working every day to leave this place so I can be with my boy again. I hope to be there to tuck you into bed again real soon. Until then, with all my love, Mom.

god i cannot express how impressed in general i am with the storytelling that cr is doing with candela obscura but what really strikes me is how evident it is that the storytelling they do is defined by the hearts of those who are putting it together rather than adhering to a specific idea or image of a given story that they want to uphold. there is such a stark difference between the tones of chapter one and chapter two (to the fault of neither, i’ve enjoyed them both immensely because they both happen to hit parts of the supernatural-horror genre that I am so deeply fond of and so happy to see in a real play medium).
there’s the obvious difference in gming styles, matt has fantasy running through his veins and that’s evident in the way that chapter one ends up having a tone akin to something like the scarier episodes of buffy the vampire slayer. spenser outright references mike flanagan in his pre-interview thing and good grief is that so so evident in his narration and the way he emphasizes the themes emerging in the story in the environment of the world they journey through and choices like the letter from sean’s mother that subvert the audiences ability to rely on a character’s perception.
but the energy the groups of players bring to the storytelling is obviously also so important, too. like, even just looking at the groups prior to watching each I probably could’ve guessed which might’ve had a more lighthearted tone. the combination of ashley, anjali, and robbie already would be one i’d guess a more warm/goofy vibe for (not to say they can’t be serious and dramatic, but the tone of the seriousness is still warm and the world that prompts them towards drama likewise feels warm) and laura, despite her propensity for goofs, does tend to be a chameleon with group make ups. likewise i think we all had a certain (affectionate) fear™ when it was revealed that marisha, brennan, luis, and travis would be reuniting in another short form story and that has certainly held up and been incredibly bolstered by zehra’s absolute commitment and immersion into the story (constantly fucking blown away that this is her first real play she’s incredible).
this is all just to say as someone deeply interested in digital storytelling, i am so so enamoured by cr’s commitment to following their own desires as humans telling stories to one another while adhering to the requirements they have as a company. and also if you haven’t you should watch candela obscura, especially now that spooky season is here.

Unrelatedly, if Flint had been as good a weird surrogate father figure to Billy as he was to Eleanor it would’ve solved SO many problems

"There is nothing wrong with me."
We are only 1 episode into "Candela Obscura: Needle & Thread", and these two boys have together cured my art block.
Seriously, you can't combine WW1 themes, soft traumatized boys, and supernatural horror without considering the consequences.
Me. I'm the consequences.
Also, that hug reminded me so much of one of my favorite war photos, and what can I say, lads. I felt inspired.
Big thanks to Brennan and Luis for feeding us such a feast! 💚

I really don’t think we should be treating morality as a linear thing in ASOIAF because what often happens is that we start to stray from the actual conversations that we need to be having regarding the depths of making a moral choice and even the circumstances involved. To try and blankly paint any one character as the “most morally good” isn’t really taking us anywhere. And it certainly isn’t helpful when people in this fandom want to try and prove that characters are “grey” but not moral (what does that even mean??) because they did one “bad” thing. If ASOIAF stans were to have their way, then:
Jon is not a morally good person because he threatened Gilly
Dany cannot be considered to be compassionate because she sanctioned torture against the wine seller’s daughters
Arya cant be good because she has killed people
and so on, and so on….
But this is such a draining, and oft times frustrating, conversation to have because you see just how shallow the above listed examples are? Readers are listing only singular instances across a narrative that spans thousand and thousands of pages, and there’s absolutely no context involved. Why did Jon threaten Gilly? Why did Dany resort to torture and at one point did she do it? Who did Arya kill and why? And why do those singular instances negate everything else in their arcs?
What usually happens when we have the 12847647282th unnecessary conversation about who is the “most good” character in ASOIAF is that we start getting blanket statements with no elaboration. And the only people ever considered are Ned, Brienne, and Davos, and sometimes the children like Shireen or Tommen. Mind you, Ned and Davos are not perfect or without their own faults either; much has been said about Ned’s abilities as a father and it’s implied that Davos was not entirely faithful to his wife. And based on her current arc, Brienne will surely have to make morally tough choices regarding oaths and knightly honor. Plus theres the irony of including literal children when they have not been put in situations where they actually have to make morally difficult choices and live with the consequences.
ASOIAF shows us that people who are capable of incredible kindness and compassion are also capable of doing unpleasant things.
Jon threatened Gilly….because he was trying to save another child whom he believed to be at risk of human sacrifice(!!) and was stuck between a rock and a hard place. But why does that singular instance negate the fact that his arc has been about him standing up for the “lesser than”? Why does that negate the fact that he stood up for Sam against a superior when there was nothing to gain for him? Why does it negate the fact that he went out of his way to equip Arya in a way that society would have deemed inappropriate? Why does it negate the fact that he dedicated the entirety of his time as Lord Commander to fight an institution that had upheld racism/xenophobia for millennia? Why should we filter out all those moments of kindness, compassion, and deep empathy that Jon has even without him thinking?
Dany sanctioned torture….but she was trying to solve the murder of an innocent victim AND this brought her no joy. But why does that negate the fact that when she gained unimaginable power, she could’ve high tailed to Westeros to use it to her benefit and become queen, but instead chose to stay in Essos where she has no personal responsibility just so she could fight the institutional evil that is slavery? Why does it negate Dany who went to personally treat plague victims at great risk to herself?
Arya has killed some….but it’s in self defense or in defense of others who are disenfranchised. But why does this negate that she is one of the few people in the series how goes out of her way to show kindness and friendship to those who are not as economically or politically advantaged as she is (e.g., Mycah)? Why does it negate that she took fellow slaves under her protection when she herself had little power to fight for her own survival at Harrenhall? Why does it negate that when she saw those caged soldiers whom she was angry with for their actions, instead of leaving them to die instead offered them the only kindness she could at the moment: a drink of water?
Trying to have arguments about morality but stripping everything down to ‘x character did y bad thing (regardless of context) and that’s why they can’t be good’ is, to be blunt, ridiculous. And it isn’t a particularly interesting way to engage with the text. Character journeys, especially well written ones, are rarely ever in a straight line. There’s amazing highs and terrible lows. GRRM gives us so many characters like Jon, Dany, Arya, Sansa, Ned, etc. who even in their lows, have gleams of compassion and exceptional kindness. It doesn’t do anyone any good to filter those moments out to make the books more digestible; and I’m being a little generous here, because so many readers have a very shallow level of engagement with the series and it shows in conversation. And we also shouldn’t pit these characters unfairly against those who have never been in similarly difficult situations that required them to make hard choices. Because when we do, we start to completely miss the point all together.

i truly think nearly every my chem song has more than one meaning (this is true of most things) but also that many of those meanings are contradictions and thats the point because that's the heart of my chemical romance: an enterprise which is both fake shrouded costumed performed and also the most genuine thing on planet earth

❝Now now... Just take it easy.❞ Raven spoke in a soothing lower-toned voice, picking up a nearby damp rag to gingerly wipe the access droplets of sweat that lingered on the demon's forehead, and sides of his face. ❝Blue can be quite a calming color, It's one of the many reasons I like it so much.❞ She said, sitting by his side and leaned forward the slightest bit.
He seemed quite distressed, waking up so suddenly like that, as if his fight or flight instincts kicked in. ❝That must've been a pretty bad nightmare, hmm? Why don't you tell me about it...? It might help you feel better.❞ The vampire said, leaning back in the chair she sat in to place her hands in her lap.

This Council is Hereby Called To Order
Tumblr media
(Starter for an ensemble scene within @asongofgoldenfireandblackblood)
Since the dragons first landed in Westeros, one truth has remained foremost within the halls the Red Keep and at the heart of the power held by the Targaryen Crown; The Small Council of the ruling King or Queen were the only members of the court who truly had the ear of their kingdom's monarch.
"You must ensure you arrive after the Lords have had enough time to treat with one another, without allowing their negotiations to turn to madness."
Rhaenyra was skeptical of most of the advice her late father had provided on matters of ruling; the decade she spent as Hand, in truth, ruling in his stead, was more formative of an education than any advice the late King had seen fit to provide. On this matter, however, she had found the guidance sound, and arrived precisely ten minutes after the Lords of her small council had been called to arrive. The new Queen entered in a whirl of silver-gold curls and burgundy toned silk, taking the seat at the head of the long, oak table that filled most of the small council chamber as if it had belonged to Rhaenyra all her life. After all, had it not in so many ways? It was no secret she was still recovering from the attempt on her life, but none would no simply by looking at her, if there was one thing Westeros' first ruling Queen had honed to its pinnacle over her life, it was the presentation of perfection, regardless of what persisted underneath the veneer.
It took no more than a gentle clearing of her throat for the advisors gathered around the table to fall silent, then Rhaenyra offered a dazzling smile, and called the meeting to order. "Good morrow, my lords, ladies, you have my gratitude for your patience, so let us be prompt and see straight to our most pressing business of the day. I believe my Good-Father, Lord Corlys, has petitioned to take the floor first, then their is our Lady-Hand's agenda, updates I have been informed should liked to be discussed by Lord Dalton, Prince Daemon and Lady Mysaria, as well as Lord Cregan, regarding the loyalties of their respective lieges and some ruffled feathers that may need soothing in the Wastelands, and, of course, Prince Jacaerys Ser Stefan, and Prince Daeron's progress on the investigation into the...unfortunate interruption at His Grace, my Father's funeral feast," The Queen forced herself to swallow the lump in her throat that persisted whenever the attempt on her life was broached, even now nearly a moon hence, before concluding. "That said, my Lord Corlys, you have the floor."

Response order is as follows: @lordhusband @calla-celtigar @creganstarkrp @daltongreyjoy-rp @theladymysaria

Pepper isn't one for tampering with things, especially mechanical and technological devices she's not familiar with. But the lab was empty, and she was merely checking in on the progress Tony had made when it happened. A sudden flash of light, blinding and intense. Then her surroundings became rather dark, body going limp, mind slipping into unconsciousness. This perhaps was a classic case of in the wrong place, at wrong time. Or maybe fate had a hand to play. No matter how it came about, one thing is for certain. She' may be in danger if this isn't sorted out.
The redhead stirs to the sound of birds chirping, and the smell of nature all around. Am I outside? Her head feels a little sore, memory is a bit fuzzy. She slowly sits up and blinks into the bright sunlight, a hand lifting to help see better.
Everything looks different... she glances down and realizes she's sitting in a pile of hay? This is definitely not the lab, or Stark Industries.
Pepper stands then, a tad unbalanced until she gains her footing--stilettoes and dirt do not mix--and is able to really examine the place. A barn... I'm inside a barn? How... Panic is beginning to creep inside, but she refuses to let it consume her just yet. There has to be a logical explanation.
"Mr. Stark, if this is some sort of new simulation software you're testing out, I would appreciate the heads up next time," assuming, of course, this is an illusion. "Or maybe warn me not to enter the lab if you're planning on experimenting with new equipment? You know how I feel about potentially hazardous situations..." because lets face it, Tony and risk go hand in hand. "Mr. Stark?"

@mindfcllofmadness | crawling into bed | accepting
send 🛏️ for my  muse’s reaction to yours crawling into bed with them
There were enough bedroom in all of the tower for all of the Avengers. Even spare ones for when their friends would come. He tried to be welcoming. So by all account, Steve should've been in his own room. But for some reason, Steve went to his bedroom. Well, not for no reason. Tony did tease him earlier that day that if Steve felt alone, he could always come to his room and keep him company. Tony never expected for Steve to actually show up, considering it wasn't the first time he had made such a tease. But he wasn't going to let that opportunity go. So when he felt Steve joining him, Tony wrapped his arms around Steve, pressed his lips on Steve's neck, kissing it. Tony's hands pushing at the hem of Steve's shirt, fingers trailing on perfect abs. "This isn't the first time I propositioned you. Why tonight?" he asked between kisses on Steve's neck.
