I'd seen this before of course, but I'm now noticing the tuxedos and the calicos. It's really interesting to see such patterns portrayed in such old paintings. I can turn to look at my cats and know that people in history also marveled at their lovely, distinct, or even funny patterns. You know there were people in history who laughed because a tuxedo has a "mustache" marking. They likely admired a perfectly circular spot on their cats butt, or delighted in the marbled pink and black toe beans on each foot. And the calicos???? I cannot be the first person in history to stop dead to admire the beauty of a passing calico's pattern.

Our relationship with cats is such a phenomenal through-line in human history..
