Today, tumblr taught me that green/blue taako is antisemitism and I had to google what that was and why. Wanted to apologize to anyone who felt hurt by that and felt they couldn't speak up about it. Completely unintentional.

While googling, I found it was a thing that came up (among a lot of issues) when they first released Taako's design (and the other boy’s designs) with a green/blue tint skin and big nose/ witch/wizard hat and criticized by some fans as antisemitism

The comic design is a soft purple hue skin but a lot of the fandom draws taako with brown skin (hes apparently a sun elf, which I didn't know either) but the comic creators felt weird to have a brown skin character named Taako cause that brings up its own racism. And Justin said the name was a joke, a goof for a one off dnd game that turned into what it did and he regrets the name

Anyways, wanted to share what I learned and found out while googling today and being low key called out in the tags of a tumblr post and share this info cause there's people out there who might not beware of this

So I'll re edit these taako artworks I have, so not to have green/blue skin and post them again!

(My Jewish roomie read this and is like:

Him “is taako Jewish?”

Me- “no”

Him- “so what’s the problem with him being portrayed this way, who is it offending if he’s not Jewish and this isn’t a dig at Jewish people on a Jewish character??”

Me “idk??”

Him- “those characteristics are put on Jewish people by nazi, there for just assuming this design is offensive to Jewish people, is in itself promoting antisemitism. You’re enforcing the nazis narrative of Jewish people”

Me- *not a Jewish person and not taking the space to talk on this topic just listening*

Him- “I’m too old for this and I don’t want people getting off on policing strangers on the internet. Your art is amazing”)

My first real foray into watercolor, especially digital watercolor, but im pretty pleased for the most part :)

Febuqueery Day 4: Holding hands

Are they going to a fancy event or to the grocery store? You decide.

First impression: hehehe goofy wizard who talks funny

Impression now: hehehe goofy wizard whos way smarter than he seems and is rlly cool actually and also my dad now?

Favorite moment: call me basic but the whole black tentacle bit/ “junebug”

Idea for a story: ah im not a writer so its probs not the most original but maybe something that deals with his appearance being slightly less pretty after wonderland and further effects itd have on him and his confidence. especially since hes SUPER famous now and people constantly look at him. for the more silly approach tho id like a one off where taako loses his hat and gets really upset over it so the gang has to do mystery hijinks to find out who took it.

Unpopular opinion: this is an opinion thats going to have the fandom go for my throat but drawing taako green or blue really isnt that big a deal. theres a long history of anti semitic drawings of jewish people with pointy noses, being witches, being green and having horns and drawing taako that way if he was explicitly told to be jewish would be REAL BAD dont get me wrong. but nowhere is he really implied or coded to be jewish. if people started drawing angus whos jewish in canon with a pointy nose or green skin, THEN itd be really bad but on taako its like, no biggie. (disclaimer tho: im not jewish so if someone who’s jewish disagrees with this take their word over mine)

Favorite relationship: his relationship with magnus and merle is so good but tbh!! him going from distant and kinda mean mentor to angus practically his dad....oh that kills the man (me)

Favorite headcanon: my fave hc is that he has autism! i KNOW i know i give every character i like this hc but LISTEN!! his voice is pretty monotone, odd way of speaking that seen that lup doesnt have said accent too is probably unique to him, low empathy, i hc his hat is like a comfort item because the weight of it is nice on his head. its all there!!also the hc i have that lup and taako are BOTH trans and that they just switched names because its really funny to me

how many people have thot that Danika and Ophelia were Lucretia and Taako/Lup?

nobody has mistaken danika for lucretia (though i have put some lucretia aesthetic posts on her blog) but ive had 1 or 2 people tag a drawing of ophelia in a witch hat as taako
