Things currently on the first page of the "hot right now" section of knitting patterns search page on ravelry:

Several basic raglan sweaters

Mesh/fishnet sweater covered in sequins.

A dissected rat; complete with internal organs

Cute vest with stylized flowers

Two different sweaters (one pullover, one cardigan) with the same unicorn tapestry design by the same designer. Each pattern is $13 and there isn't a discount for buying both and neither pattern description mentions the other pattern. Designers can and should charge what they want for their work but this feels like a wild choice to me TBH.

Thong/Speedo "bulge" version-- ie designed for people with a penis. This pattern is no longer available??? Why is it on the hot right now page?????

Man I have gone thru every emotion with this project but it finally has ended happily!!

This is 2 oz of the 4 that I got at Black Sheep this year, first spin on my new (to me - she's 35 years old!) Schacht Matchless wheel. I really had a hell of a time with this fiber - it was very well prepared but with my health problems I had a really hard time keeping it consistent. It's overspun and under spun, overplied and under plied, slubby thru some of the silk portions and suddenly way thinner thru the purple. Which is why I was shocked that it was perfectly balanced when I took it off the noddy. I'm thrilled bc I was giving up hope on it being suitable for the intended project - I think it'll make a beautiful warp! I was intending to have the other half be the weft and make a fun weird plaid but seeing it in the skein I think that will be too busy and I'll use plain black alpaca instead. It's 282 yards so it'll have to be a pretty big shawl but that's hardly a problem! I'm just so relieved that it's actually balanced.

Remaining kitties for the garden

Here are all the kitties who didn't make it to the website and their pet screens c:

^The regular kitties (The nothing option would make Error show up and just kinda glare at everybody lol and there would be mirror and paper bag options to see Dust and Horror again)

^The winter kitties (The snow option would bring out Blue and Dream, the christmas lights brought Fresh and the stocking was Ink)

^The special pairs (I don't think any of these made it to the polls lol but putting out a bed would bring Horror and Dust together, putting out a rainbow cushion would bring Color and Killer (this was how you would finally be able to pet him) and putting down comic books would bring Epic and Cross, who would finally purr when pet with his bestie)

ok! It took me about 6 tries to do the first short row shaping at the beginning (not the patterns fault it just took me 6 tries until I gave up and looked up a video on how to do my wrap and turns bc I was fucking up somewhere lmao) but we got there! Behold my little froggy is starting to form

This guy is actually a practice run, these are not the recommended yarn or needle size for the pattern but I knew I'd want to do a first go before my nice version and figured the larger size would be nice and he's actually not a bad size! I think I may stick with a worsted/dk weight rather than fingering and just go down a needle size or two to make him denser :]

I want a lace weight top (probably short sleeve) and I have some handspun yarn

I don't have enough of either on their own, sp they have to go together (I've got another ball of the grey too). I should also probably weigh what I have and compare it to the sweater I made out of the grey just to be sure, but that's tomorrow-me's problem.

And started a swatch.

I tried out some two colour rib (uses less yarn than brioche rib) and some stripes (one row each colour which works fine in the round) and then started the pattern (and messed it up a little because one row each colour not in the round is finicky) and then got bored swatching so this is as far as I've gotten

That doesn't show the striped bits very well

I don't hate the stripes as much as I thought I would. I actually like how they play in the lace.

I'm going to cast off the swatch and block it and then do some math.

The pattern will probably be based on EZ's saddle shoulder technique, just because I like how that fit. Likely stockinette at the yoke and then lace starting just above the bust.

Maybe.

venting but there's a coworker of mine who offered to teach crochet to any other coworkers that wanted to learn and i decided to go along as well bc why not? it'd be a good few hours of crochet time and we'd all be making granny squares for a blanket and donating it

so i walk in and:

the yarn she is having BEGINNERS use for their squares is the red heart all in one granny square yarn. yarn that is notorious for being difficult to learn even when you know what you're doing. WHY didn't you get a different color skein for each potential person that'd be there and have them make a bunch of solid colored squares for a blanket??

she's given everyone a SMALLER hook than they need for the yarn when anyone who's tried that damn yarn knows to go a size up on the hook if anything

everyone makes their granny squares differently but red heart's granny square pattern has GOT to be the worst pattern to learn ever.

one of the first things she says when she's starting the class is that she has been signing up for some markets and such and has been making plushies/amigurumi. great! good for you! not my thing, but cool! BUT THEN she says 'this is my logo, i just threw something into chat gpt and got this 🤗'

Lover's Mittens, two pairs of colorwork done in the traditional rose/snowflake pattern seen in Selbuvotter, a type of stranded mitten patterns from Selbu, Norway.

I made two pairs of mittens, one for my friend and one for her fiance, plus a mitten my friends affectionately call the "Smitten", where you can hold hands! Note on the pattern: when making the Smitten, the join between the cuffs leaves a giant hole. I chose to use a sew-on label to cover that, it says Love in Every Stitch.

There are a little under 18,000 stitches in this pattern, one for every day of fifty years of happiness.
