final verdict: waking-cloud and follows-chalk are great, joshua graham is an extremely funny character, daniel is nothing to me, the area is cool, the plot is dumb as hell, the whole thing is racist, the quests are boring. 3/10

looking through your account all the honest hearts hate and fuck like yeah i remember the first time i played honest hearts i was like "waowh cool" then like a few months later we played it again and was like "oh fuck this is really racist" i feel like honest hearts *has* the materials for a good story (the survivalist) but its mostly relegated to side quests and background stories. the main story of honest hearts is the most boring ass cliched weirdly pro mormon evangilist racist thing and its so weird and out of place in the rest of the game

dead money, old world blues, and lonesome road all have that really strong central theme of holding on to the past etc, and then there's honest hearts....? like.

joshua as a character i think is really important to the game, especially because of how he basically turns "caesar" into "edward sallow" he completely recontextualizes his entire character.

the survivalist is really interesting too cause unless im brainfarting really bad thats one of the most explicit records of any immediate post war things in the game.

i think a story centering more on joshua graham and the survivalist, rather than the conflict between the white legs and the sorrows and dead horses, would be a lot more interesting and thematically relevant to the rest of the dlc and the game as a whole.

the white legs and sorrows are i feel poorly developed, the factions and the characters within them. theyre just sorta boring cliched (and racist) tribal stereotypes which were outdated even by the time the game came out

If they were ever to remaster or remake New Vegas in any way, it would probably be a good idea to do away with Honest Hearts... or actually have Native Americans on your writing team if you want to write something about Native Americans. I am not sure what else I can say besides that. Also like, have it so our only option isn't to side with Mormon missionaries. Benny:"so you telling me that u went all over mojave just to find me and you are scared to ask bartender for nukacola?" He will tease you for it, and be confused, like??? Curier is so strong and smart why are they so shy??? But Beni boi likes to talk so no problem he can easly talk to people if Coureir cant.

Arcade:"uhh sure?okay?" I feel like He was shy too when he was younger so he can relate. He probably still sometimes stresses before Talking to somone for first time, but its not that bad. He will probably think that Courier is scared of people due to past or something so he wont bring this topic up(even if they are just shy without reason)

Vuples:"if you are too scared to order a drink how are you going bring pride to Legion" if Courier gives him puppy eyes/accualy feel sad, he will loudly sign and order the drink for them. After that he will try to "train them out of this behiviour" (thats vulpes, dont expect anything wholesome) but if it really upsets Courier he will just silently hate it, but wont bring it into conversations

Raul:"yeah sure boss" he had younger sister okay, he knows how to behave like normal human being. He completly understands the idea of being too shy to do something. Im gonna asterisk all my points cause i want it to be more organized. This is things i wish square would patch into the game, (15's way)

*first thing first, my roomate had a pretty solid point about the terrence dion goodbye scene. We care for dion, they showed us plenty of him, but terrence, not so much. (or their relationship beside that one kiss scene), but not about their pure bond- which i agree, for dion involvment in the ending, he should have more screentime, also with the involvement of the empire in the plot- it shouldve got the witcher 3 approach with the siri segments, show don't tell- i think there should have been a playable section in the bahamut vs odin, to get to know dion and his dynamics better. - that scene wouldve hit so much harder.and like my kiss argument my straight roomate agreed, that if terrence at least went back for a last kiss teary that'll pull the tear gear.

*joshua-oh god they let us play as him when he was a baby, why not just letting us playing as him when the player discover that he is alive, with jote and the undying, even for small section not wanting to reveal the cards too early. I think that should be a part of the game, the base game.

*jill- if it must be a dlc so be it, but at least add some cutscenes to when she talks about the iron kingdom, we as players would be so much more hyped to join her vengeance quest, she have the potential, you showed us the horrors bennedikta went throgh which is why at least i became to love her in the end, why not a main character like Jill, she have so much potential, if not making a palyable iron kingdom section (like before she reunited with clive maybe when she grew a bit)at least add the cutscenes square.

*for god sake make it possible to switch party members like you did in 15, L1+L2 is no combo anyway so patch that thing, it'll be so much more refreshing especially in the first half of the game when the quests are dry and the gameplay loop is repetitive.

*make the ambrosia quest mandatory, so many pple dont even know they can unlock the chocobo, or at least let the player know that the + green quest are important if they want to upgrade their gameplay. This isn't an mmo most single player players will look at that and thing that the + is an extra non important (had an irl talk with a friend who thought that)

*dlc- make it season pass only,one time pay and thats it. the game is 69.99 it shouldn't even need a dlc, but at least do a full on season pass in like 19.99 with like at least a cid dlc(dont yall wanna see his time with the empire, taking small mid otto gav and making the hideaway happen, also, i wanna know who from the boys have a spicy history with cid cause quinten suggested it and some other npcs as well), dion dlc(not only to get a look at the first official not hinted gay character's love life, no not for that-but i think we need a real look into the empire pre and post Annable. what we saw of his dad was tereible, i wanna know why dion is so atrached and looking highly of him, also like ive said in previous post i have to know dion pov on branded), jill dlc(cause bae need a redemption i fucking hate how square treat a strong female character once she's a love interest of the protag)

And a gav dlc, like something happens in the end that if you dont choose gav in the quest you wont know, but gav tells a bit about his past and i think especially since he is our main scout, dlc of him and byron maybe could be cool, after the kanvar event.

*enemies variety- im pissed theres no Cactaur hunt or tonberry. Like really really pissed. You kept the freaking flann but not the cactaur?!please for the love of fucking god patch them as a hunt or something.

*animation fixes- so many quests that had a higebuildup ended looking cheap. Fix that-asap, especially the quinten quest, it could have hit so much harder if the lipsync wasn't so cursed looking while the model was kinda static they had quest with proper cutscense like theo's, why not Quinten since its a freaking end of a huge chain quest. Also, in general fix the freaking lipsync that shit is cursed af.

In conclusion i know pple like shitting on 15 but i thino 16 will only bemefit from the 15 treatment, especially for the proce we as consumers payed.

This game doesnt feel finished, it feels rushed, i think 2 more years in the baking wouldve benefit it, but well its out, so why not patching it. I think it'll boost the sales cause now the game feel bare, and many things feel like placeholders. So i hope the team didnt pop the champagne yet.

I dont blame Yoshi p or the team, i think they did an amazing job, but i do blame square's higher ups tendency to announce and release a teiple A game too early, they need to understand that atech advances, it need and will take more time to develope a game. And if you want to take the money that you are asking for at least make sure that the dough isn't raw.

Have you ever thought about Stigmata in Fallout New Vegas? Like not as things that mark you as an outsider but like Stigmata in the Biblical sense?

Obviously we have the wounds of crucifixion an obvious marking for enemies of the legion, also there are at least e few canon characters that canonical survived attempted crucifixion so logically at least a few people should be walking around with scars like that.

Also depending on the way you choose and the DLC´s the curior not only has the headwound of being shoot by Benni, the head being another important place for Stigmata of the Thorn crown, but literally a scar surrounding the whole head (from having their brain removed) resembling a thorn crown in an almost uncanny manner, on the same notice the chest wound of having their heart ripped out, another Stigmata scar

Im going absolutely nowhere with this except that I think it would make for some really cool art and also piss of Joshua Graham specifically and I think thats the most important part

i wanna go back to that weird time period where i literally only dreamt abt kh and it gave me some Wild shit all around but some of em were genuinely cool like

in one i got to play a New KH Game where u play as Sora in this weird mix of Quadratum (did i spell that right. it looks wrong but im going with it) (also wanna mention that i had this dream Before the remind dlc came out so like. shout out to my brain for that i guess) and Toy Box, sort of like that one boss battle area in Toy Box but HUGE. and better. like a massive actual city made of toys. there was a section in the city that was in some kinda perma-night or something, which is also where u start out the game demo, and there u can barely tell its a toyland bc it resembles the real deal so well. sora is found there by a kid that may or may not have been Joshua from twewy (genuinely dont know if it was him but im going with it) and u can use a lightning-based combo attack with him that also lets u climb walls. one building in this dark area has a weird,, giant purplish-black creature on top of it that im pretty sure was Supposed to be Ursula but dreams are weird so it ended up looking more like some shapeless horror creature. when u talk to it -- and this game brought back dialogue boxes for minor cutscenes but everything is still voiced which was interesting -- it just taunts sora about something that hed apparently done and specifically says "... Now what would Riku think about that?" to which Sora expresses confusion and tries to ask why it would bring up Riku, but mid sentence starts to complain about something hurting and walks away

btw i wanna mention that Sora had customizable clothes (!!!!!) and i gave him a half-cape thing that looked really cool and flowy when he attacks. and a crop jacket thats reminiscent of Cloud's outfit in kh2 (the name of the ff thing its from is escaping me rn). this is one of the most important details please bring back this feature

but anyway if u put down the controller for even a moment the game will start to do shit on its own. Maybe-Joshua moved away by himself and Sora went to follow him, and even when u try to get back control it takes a couple seconds. im pretty sure this feature was a way to keep u on track in the storyline?? it was weird. anyway when this happened as i was playing the went to the brighter area that more resembled Toy Box, complete with every inch of the floor being multi colored puzzle pieces n block n such, and it was right next to an ocean for some reason. also had a ton of minigames and other interactions, including random toy dogs that u can pet (the other most important feature). Maybe-Joshua disappears sometime during ur exploration of this place which takes up the rest of the demo as u cannot go beyond the area

ok so!! this courier is my house courier! hes not like Big Capitalist in Fancy Suit or anything. he’s more “man in his early 40s is tired and just wanted to help people while simultaneously not wanting to wake up to getting shot at”. he doesnt wear suits often, either.

in terms of his personality, hes kinda abrasive but a well-intentioned abrasive. it sometimes comes across as being a huge dick but hes genuinely not trying to be- most of the things he says is just to help. he also thinks VERY long term, which is why he sided with house. hes more relaxed in regard to the ncr, but he doesnt like the legion all that much. he finds house’s ego kinda not great but he still respects him a lot more than the others.

hes really good with scientific stuff and repairing weapons, but hes not a nerd or anything. he doesnt even like math. he just knows what hes talking about. he uses guns, too, cause he doesnt like to get close enough to people when fighting them.

his protegee!!!! is an ex-fiend. shes in her late teens, and she wasnt like. born into the fiend stuff. she just got high a lot and made fiend friends so thats how she became a fiend. but she tended to be a lot chiller than the other fiends. thats why the two didnt like. fight or anything. cause shes not like automatically hostile, they gotta shoot first and he didnt so. and plus she wanted to see vegas and take a shower.

shes actually pretty quiet and introspective once shes away from the fiends. shes kinda a social chameleon tbh. like around the fiends shes loud + obnoxious as hell but around everyone else shes just chill + mildly reserved. just relaxed. and she wont really talk to anyone except when shes spoken to, aside from the courier or the companions she got close. she really likes the courier since he got her to vegas + got her inside the lucky 38 + shes not a fiend anymore and shes just happy about that p much.

shes not TOO scientific, she cant do math to save her life- BUT shes really good at medicinal stuff. thats her strong point. very good at it. and she can also pick almost every lock she comes into contact with. doesnt matter.

and some fun lil facts:

the courier did the honest hearts + dead money + lonesome road dlc BUT his protegee accidentally went and did the whole big mt stuff. she was gone for almost 3 months. so like. whoops [but he cant get too mad bcus combined he was gone for longer. he can get extremely worried though]

the courier gets along with joshua really well, despite him being ex-legion. the protegee really likes 0, despite him hating the couriers boss.

the protegee Does Not Like Boone At All. she just doesnt. she doesnt trust first recon people. raul and arcade are super cool in her book! veronica was too. Was.

speaking of companions, the courier doesnt travel with most besides ed-e, since he does his traveling with her instead [cause what better teaching is hands-on-in-the-field experience?]

and also shes never met house. she wants to. the courier wants him to talk to her at SOME point. the courier has mentioned her to him before multiple times. but house wont. at least not until the 2nd battle of hoover dam. but she still does do quests and stuff for him [as a way of hands-on “show me what you learned and PLEASE DO IT RIGHT” and also “im gonna go to new canaan i know my boss wont talk to you but just heres some important stuff please do all that because i cant its important and if you need anything talk to raul or arcade or cass or lily or maybe boone if you want okay bye see you in a bit”. and also its easier to have 2 people than just 1]

here’s the thing, its not gonna happen, but HOW COOL would it be to have TWEWY in Smash?  Like, for one of the DLC characters, I Mean.

Haven't decided if I’d prefer Neku or Joshua as the fighter character though, i think they booth have their merits.

With Neku, you could have a neutral B move like Shulk does that could do different things related to different psychs, and then his final smash could be his and Joshua’s Level 3 fusion (because thats my favorite)

and then with Joshua as a fighter, he could be a psychic fighter, like Ness, with a down B jesus beam ala pikachu’s down B, and i haven't figured out a final smash move except maybe smoothing spoilers for TWEWY

(and then it would be cool to add Shiki, Beat and Rhyme or the reapers as spirits)

dead money has a fun atsmosphere and good story tell and a nice feel for your companions and their stories! all while keeping you in a smaller area compared to the other dlcs

old world blues is silly and fun and with a lot of referances and goofs while still having that edge of showing off the backwards thinking of people stuck in the past before the war  and so much more

Even in the legion, the burned man used guns. He was of the special privelaige to do so, as he was in Caesar’s favor. He was told to train some recruits, and all he was able to teach them was to fight with their hands and to pistol-whip someone. Literally. We had a whole group that didn’t need ammo, just guns so they could pistol-whip people

I can see joshua using like, impromptu stuff and grab anything in his vicinity to bludgeon people to death. Like ulysses using a flagpole, i think he would get that idea after joshua...but thats cause like when joshua fights in the dlc he just goes and never stops

I have beaten OWB! i found it greatly enjoyable! i got the good end (where im in control of the think tank and mobius is ok), and i got basically all the maxed slides except for the location one. i was ONE off getting the top tier slide, rip. oh well! it was honestly good. certainly my favourite of the dlc so far, excluding what ive played of Lonesome Road, which ive also found really enjoyable. i think thats because i really like the characters in both owb and lr. i DID like the characters of DM on the whole, i especially liked Christine, Dean, and Vera’s ghost, but that gameplay fucked it. i also generally liked the Honest Hearts characters, but theres only like.... 4 of them..... follows chalk, the tears lady (walking cloud?? i think), joshua, and daniel. and, well..... yknow...... i find missionaries uncomfortable for a variety of perfectly justifable reasons, which leads to a HUGE strike against Daniel. also hes a whingy git. also the fact the sorrows have to go full militant if you kill the white legs is some fucking bullshit. also it crashed like a mother fucker.

i also have some stats! i took 8.1 hours to beat Dead Money (minus a little since i didnt save directly after exiting, so my ‘end’ save is at the start of honest hearts). i took 3.9 hours to beat Honest Hearts (plus all the time i lost from the multiple crashes, so id say 4 hours is fair). and i took 11.1 hours to beat OWB! youd THINK thatd put them in ranking from best to worst. and i wouldnt be able to tell you if thats true or not without dicussing dead money and honest hearts with some friends to see what they think.

the only bad thing is i wont be able to calculate lonesome road stats since i started playing it WAYYYY earlier, before doing any of the other dlcs, so i could get a few of ED-E’s upgrade. or itll be REALLY imprecise to work out how much ive done. im going to say roughly 3 hours so far?? idk. i can try and check, im sure i saved before entering the divide and im sure theres a later on divide save i can use to calculate some rough ass shit. give or take, yknow.

id like to see if i can beat lonesome road over the weekend but we’ll see? im due to be fucked right the fuck up in like, 2 days, plus we might be going out for dinner with grandma and grandpa (and POSSIBLY thelma and rick as well, is the assumption. which would be kinda nice as i certainly havent seen rick in years if ever and its been ages since i last saw thelma. unless they were both at the vow renewal.... but i didnt talk to basically anyone there, haha). and i have some homework. but it would be nice! :D

There’s definitely issues in hh with writing and id actually say that while its my second fav overall its because of the setting and exploration, it really does have the poorest writing. Like i really love running around and seeing low poly zion and finding the survivalist’s journals, but the sidequests and main quest ware way to simplistic and lacking

But really what i love is that the writers/developers are transparent. They said they allocated their resources and time to the environment, and the issues with the engine. Theres no pretending they knew what they were doing. I wish there was a lot more dialogue and development, but its so hard to blame it on anything but time and constraints. 10k dialogue for all dlc, only months to work on it, and the game engine only being able to do so much are just hurdles they had to go through, and it shows.

Like i get where people come from when they think its about joshua’s redemption, pitying him or respecting him but i also feel like that isnt the core message at all and thats totally overlooking the actually interesting message. Its about him being hypocritical, obviously. Its about how he wont change on his own, but youre in a position where you can change him, so will you or wont you. And i think thats pretty interesting. That core theme of war never changes, but people can through the roads we walk. Showing that influence and power you can have on someone, whether its good or bad. And then theres the option to leave zion with daniel, but there’s repercussions. Yeah killing people is bad but doing absolutely nothing isnt a great answer either. So idk, i just like how it shows that no matter what you do, things change inevitably. And thats neat.

If the dlc was about joshua redeeming himself or having us as a player feel sorry for him, tbh i wouldve hated it. In fact the first time i played it i thought thats what they were building up to and ignored joshua and just fucked around in the caves most of the time. The only time you really hear anything about sparing joshua is from ulysses, and that seems more of a nod to ulysses character and maybe his guilt... not really saying you should just write off everything hes done as the legate. But like i said i can see where people see it like that...
