Because Gerard was cursed when he was what, nine?? You don’t curse a nine year old into being a frog in the hopes of teaching them a Lesson about Manners or whatever. Most likely scenario, they Die but if they do survive, what you’re teaching a child is that people’s tolerance of them is Directly tied into their physical appearance and every single person and creature that meets them are At Best deeply disgusted or just outright want to kill them if they Don’t have that perfect golden appearance. sorry but this conversation between rhaenys & rhaenyra in episode two makes me roll my eyes so much because of how dumb it is.

those lords who bent the knee weren't given an option, lol. viserys was widowed and because of how daemon was viewed, people were pushing for viserys' only surviving child at the time to be before him in the line of the succession even though she was a girl.

furthermore, after aemma arryn died those same lords were trying to marry off one of their daughters to viserys so she could be the next queen. so, basically they bent the knee because a) they didn't have a choice b) she was viserys only child and preferred to his brother c) they clearly saw her as temporary because otherwise why the rush to get viserys remarried and to have more children? (aka the sons he never got with aemma)

if you say it was to keep the royal line secure and from dying out well sure that would be a reason. but at the same time do you really think corlys was purely concerned about that alone, lol?

in contrast to all of this rhaenys not being named heir actually came about from a great council where the lords were given a choice. in the end they chose viserys, and yes sexism played a role even though rhaenys had a better claim than both viserys AND daemon

tid but jem actually does die and will is somehow touched by heavenly fire that makes him immortal. the bittersweet element is the fact that they're not only forced to bond over jem's death but that will must come to grips with his new immortality in a world without jem. will and tessa get together after a few years and get married, because they realize that jem would not want them miserable. they're still a power couple in the modern day content, and they still visit jem's grave every year to keep his memory alive. will and tessa lost james and lucie and have not had any children since, but when they see kit, they know they have to adopt him, so they do. cue will teaching kit all kinds of wild shenanigans
