hi lauren. i was the anon before that asked if you were ok with answering writing advice. lately i've been dealing with a lot of self doubt with my writing. and as much as i hate to say it, the amount of reactions i get on here has been making me think i'm just shitty at writing. do you have any advice to combat writing insecurities like this?

and i want to first start off by saying that every writer goes through this, even published authors have self doubt and struggle just as this. i go through this, i'm currently going through this. it's hard to combat especially if you're dealing with it alone. it's always nice to have friends and followers and mutuals to help combat these feelings. but sometimes not even that can kick the self doubt in the ass.

with that said i don't think there's a 'fix all' for this. there's things you can do to kick it to the curb and push through, but just remember this is all a part of being a creative being. we hold ourselves to high standards because we know we can create great things, we have before. and it's hard. not everyone is blessed with the ability to create, whether that's writing, art, designing damn buildings. so just know you're absolutely amazing and talented for writing at all. writing good, writing bad, it's all writing, creating, and that's fucking amazing!!!

i've seen fics on here that are not ones i enjoy, i don't click with the writing, the prose, what have you, but the note count will still be high. the interactions amazing and i think: damn am i the problem? and no i'm not. people like what they like. just because i thought the story was meh does not mean every one does. just as the four mutuals who read my stuff and interact with it NOT interacting with certain stories of mine because it's not their cup of tea, does not make them bad or mean i wrote something bad.

every pot has a lid and sometimes you ain't that lid. it's a tough reality you gotta face sometimes, BUT IT DOESN'T MEAN YOU'RE A BAD WRITER OR ANYONE IS BETTER THAN YOU ON HERE.

do not compare yourself to ANYONE on here. we ain't stephen king. idc if this other author has 5k notes on each fic, has turned one of them into a published story: NO ONE IS BETTER THAN ANYONE ON HERE. do not compare your talent and story telling to anyone else's because it's only going to make YOU miserable. why be miserable when you can be writing stories YOU love? for YOUR friends, followers, mutuals, FOR YOURSELF. life is too short to keep that negative mindset. so ignore it (harsh but you gotta if you wanna create bby).

there is no easy or simple way to get notes or interaction. i can post in fandom A and get a lot of traction, but if i post in fandom B i get barely 100 notes. there's new people who gain traction so easily, there's accounts who constantly have interaction but then they write for a different fandom and that traction goes away. it's literally a yoyo effect on here, you never know if somethings going to be up or down, if this will work or if people won't be interested in the way you wish, hope. we can't fix that. hate to say it but we can't. it's the reality of being on this site.

it's something you gotta know does not = your talent. does not determine your talent.

people who say 'write for yourself' mean well, and yes i do think at the end of the day no matter what you're writing it is self indulgent; we post for people to see. if we didn't want people to see our writing we would leave it in the drafts or get a diary. our work is NOT just for ourselves. we want others to enjoy these little headcanons and prose and what we made. and that's beautiful, amazing, the best thing about creating. and it feels like crap when we get 2-100 notes at most. but it doesn't mean what you're writing is bad. that you have no talent.

and as hard as it is you gotta keep writing, babes. don't let anything stop you from doing what makes you happy, from your passion and creating. it's so so fucking hard. but you gotta find the joy somewhere in it or you'll only feel negative feelings when it comes to writing.

so ignore the notes, ignore the ghost readers, ignore the popular accounts who act like it's all sooooo easy, hell ignore the paragraph where i talked about people liking this that who they whatever!!! remember why you started writing in the first place. make friends, mutuals, people who understand this feeling. support each other. talk it through with them. scream into a damn pillow if you need to. but don't let anything take away this blessing of being able to create, to write and share your stories.

there will be good and bad days on here, there will be writers who annoy you and make you feel like shit. but there's also good on here. good people. good stories that YOU are helping to create. curate a safe space for you to write and feel amazing about it <3

some more advice after ranting:

block anyone who makes you feel bad/jealous/any negative way about your own writing. if they get butt hurt over it that's on them. it's not personal, you're protecting your own mental health, love.

read every. single. story. you've ever written that, while writing it, made you feel proud or reminded you 'oh yeah this is why i like writing'

make friends!! this can be hard but trust me you'll find your people, and if you haven't yet hi i'll be one of your people!!! <3

make a playlist that boosts your creativity and listen to it while writing or to get yourself in the mood for writing. happy, sappy songs that make you smile and cheer and swoon when you think about writing scenes to them.

rejection is a part of writing, even fanfic, and you gotta accept and ignore it. be like 'oh ok' and move on to the next thing or you'll be in the same spot and it'll take longer to get out of it.

can't write? feeling like shit over it? watch a favorite movie, ya know the one that has you kicking your feet and twirling your hair or makes you laugh until you cry, or cry like a baby because it's so emotional: WATCH IT!!!

writing in the bathtub feels amazing. try it. that is all.

you could be the next stephen king but you're not right now so stop putting so much pressure on yourself to BE something. just write what makes you giddy and happy and smile or clutch them pearls because it's filthy as hell.

dance! put on some playlist and just move your damn body. literally make yourself sweat and gasp for air, you'll release endorphins AND your brain will be too distracted to make you think of negative stuff. or workout if you like that kinda thing lol.

go for a walk, write somewhere new, by yourself a yummy little beverage because you deserve it <3

read physical books. please please pleaseeeee don't JUST read fanfic. not to say it's bad to only read it. but consuming published literature actually helps in growing your trade and it's an amazing habit to get into to help combat a lot of mental health issues (personally for me at least).

selfcare days work better than you think. eat junk food (unless that makes you feel worse then stay away from triggering foods), watch comfort shows, face mask it up, paint your nails, draw, color, knit, reorganize your room, whatever gives you joy do it for a whole day. don't talk to anyone. just be with yourself and remind yourself that yeah life doesn't always suck. or if you hate doing stuff alone call a friend and have a selfcare day together (or in person).

read the struggles from published authors. look up how they got through the self doubt. know that you're not alone.

you could also, with the previous point in mind, look up their writing routine and challenge yourself to do it for a couple days, a week, whatever. it'll be fun!

post the fic. close the app. do something else. don't look at the notes when replying to those who comment or rb. literally do not let your eyes look at that stupid irrelevant number. or hell, even post and then forget about it and move on to the next thing. queue reminder reblogs for your followers, but forget about the fic for a day or two and then reply to interactions. no interactions? sad, annoying, but let's write the next one love. let's keep that writing high going!!! maybe the next one will be the one everyone goes gaga for, or maybe it won't, but hey we are literally growing with our writing and creating and those who do enjoy it are screaming from all these posts!!!

take breaks!!!! write for three days and then don't. or write for a week and then don't for a week. breaks = rest. rest = a fresher mind.

tumblr is nothing in the grand scheme of life bby, but the art you make and post and share and take your time to give yourself and whomever else see's it, IS EVERYTHING. notes don't pay the bills. they give us joy. but NEVER let them take away the joy or happiness. because it's NOT THE NOTES that keep you writing, creating. it's that little beautiful creative mind of yours <3

we always stand up for the classic. personally, i fucking love the guy. he's one of those characters who may seem really boring at first but i ended up being thoroughly charmed. i especially love him in zeta. and he's quite relatable! i too want to take a nap for 50 years and hope none of this shit is a problem when i wake up. my boy is pretty moody and depressed and i stan a king. i could go off really hard but im stopping here for time so 15/10 for milf lover amuro

im a huge fan of the feral teenager energy here. kamille will kick anyone's ass, including his own. of course i think he has every right to kick jerid's ass, that bitch was standing next to a guy named kacrikon mccooler or whatever and had the balls to be like "oh Kamille is a weird name" shut the fuck up. kamille is the personification of the creature within me that wants to bite people and the general rage that comes with being a teenager. can't get better than that! 10/10 bc i loved the multiple times he punches char

my foray into ZZ is rather short at the moment. consider me charmed, though! judau seems like a funney guy who would be cool to chill with and also probably the most emotionally well adjusted main pilot of the entire lot. i've actually seen him more in SRW and he's basically a little therapy dog. i rank 10/10 for being just a good boy

i feel like i would dislike him more if he were a consistent character or something. can't say i like kou, but can't say i dislike him either. i lack the energy to muster up any real hatred for him. nina is way out of his league, too. 4/10 perfectly meh

this kid is hilarious. in the melodrama that is WING, heero is gunning for that #1 spot of "dramatic bitch" and that's a spot with competition. i think it's great that he didn't know how to talk to a girl so he tried to blow himself up. 8/10 being a terrible friend to duo deducts points like why would u do that to my boy duo

i have no respect for this guy. my hatred of him is largely theatrical, but i simply cannot give that much credit to a guy who betrayed his ideals almost instantly over the hint of pussy. okay, aina is pretty good and i like her, but come ON, shiro! get it together! im aware that hes supposed to be a genius and a good pilot or whatever but honestly all i remember his him being all like ohh zeons are people too after meeting a hot one. 3/10 get outta here!!!

LOVE HE!!! 100% GOOD DUDE!!! i haven't gotten far into turn A but i love this poor little accident prone boy. loran is the kind of person who struggles with basic tasks but so do i so i forgive him. we love a GNC king! 10/10 gives him kiss on forehead and some of keith's bread

also gonna be real, i hated unicorn, and in no small part because of banagher! i feel like he's what a lot of weird people think amuro is when they complain about amuro being a whiny baby. the entire plot revolved around telling me that banagher was the most special boy but like. was he? wishy washy bitch. i would knock him for betraying his ideals for pussy if he had any ideals to betray. basically the best scene with banagher was the one where he was all "oh i cant kill the zeon mass murderer to stop her from murdering more bc she has feelings too :(" and riddhe was like "well i can!" and does it. that's the most worth i got out of banagher as a character! 1/10 come on stop making shiro look better

Mikazuki

LETS GIVE IT UP FOR MY SWEET LITTLE GUN DEMON!!!!! i love this kid bc he gives zero shits its so funny. most of these other pilots have a little thing called "strategy" when they attack and mika basically goes UNGA BUNGA like a caveman and smashes enemies with his giant stick. everyone else thinks they're traumatized and messed up and mika is like well i don't know what a 'trauma' is but hold my juice box. i struggle to be coherent about mikazuki bc hes just, so much, in a tiny little package. 21/10 BABY BOY YOU CAN HAVE ALL THE WEIRD SPACE PRUNES YOU WANT

she's the closest thing we get to "female character" and "main pilot" when it comes to gundam so she goes here (G WITCH PLEASE BE GOOD) and she was a severely underutilized character. for being the real out of the box thinker of the try team, it's absolutely wild that yuuma and sekai get all the credit of being like. good builder and weird tactician when fumina is RIGHT HERE!!!! the show is obsessed with humiliating her. 8/10 bby girl you deserved more

Hathaway

i mean i guess he's basically a regular main pilot, but idk. vibes are different and this is a very vibe-y based ranking. hes a little bit bland as main characters go but there are worse crimes for him to commit. like being a fuckign terrorist. i do like the part where he doesn't seem to think things through much. 7/10 here's hoping the other movies come out sometime this century!

1. Lucas L. He's got a great balance. Dark eyelashes, perfectly spaced out, thick, able to see them clearly while his eyes are open. He's got it all. Good for you bby

2. Matteo. So he does have really light eyelashes, but it helps him immensely that his eyes are rarely completely open. He be like 🙈 all the time. So those eyelashes are doing a lot of work. Also really long and spaced out

3. Cris. Baby girl wears mascara A LOT. So that gives her an unfair advantage. But that's fine. Without mascara her eyelashes are still quite long and dark. And she knows how to apply mascara like a boss

4. Rubio. We love a thick eyelash KING. Not as easy to see when his eyes are open but you can still spot them. Very dark as well

5. Shay. Her lashes are super hard to see when her eyes are open, mainly because they're pretty short. But they're really thick and dark, and she knows her mascara

6. Isak. Literally can barely see them when his eyes are open. Like, where did they go? I think it's his face shape because they're pretty dark and long. So the lashes are good but we just can't see them half the time. Tragic

7. Robbe. Meh. Pretty light. A little sparse. Giving me no life. Bland. Unfortunate

8. Martino. I expect more from an Italian. Can barely see them, especially with eyes open. Do better

9. VDH. He did not win the eyelash lottery at all. Very light and literally can't see them when his eyes are open. Like, they disappear. Where did they go. Idk.

Gosh finally i am back.I Know it's been a long ass time but I can tell you finally what's been going on in my life since I left the farm.

So, after we left the farm we travelled around for a week,looking at geysers and wandering through some nationals reserves.We looked for a job and found a job in a city called Opotiki which isn't really a city,rather a village.We drove to the riverview lodge where we would sleep and have a kitchen shower etc.When we arrived we got told to wait because for some reason we couldn't work right away. After a week of sitting around (and paying rent,80$ a week) she told us that our boss called her and said they don't need any more workers.We were pretty mad and she was just like we'll I'm sorry but u need to look for something else.So we were a bit panicking bc we don't have that much time.In the morning she then told us that there is work bc someone else called her who needs some workers.So finally we had a working place.

We worked first from 7-16:30 and after a while from 8-16:30.it was a ducking shit job lel.Standing under kiwi trees and do something called bud thinning.Like there are like 10 fruits in one spot and u need to pick so many that there are 2-4 left ,but depending on how many leafes are In that part and meh idk hard to explain.It was just so plain and boring.But we did it and worked for around 6 weeks.

During that time we befriended with 2 girls,Paula and Sabi, and 3 guys , Nic and Steffen and Krischan, all from Germany. We made a cooking group with them which meant that the 2 girls cook while we cut the food they need and wash the dishes after it lel.Amd sharing costs of course which was a lot cheaper.You know food is so super expensive here in NZ,it's crazy.

So yeah then it happened that Mel,the woman from the lodge who organizes the workers and the bosses and shit told the people that were sleeping in tents that they have to move out of the tent by 8 in the morning bc court said it's not allowed to have so many tents blabla idek.By that it was like 7pm and ppl were pissed that she comes up with that so short before.so yeah this whole place was messed up generally bc there were like 70 people and 4 toilets and 4 showers and 1 kitchen.Just way too many.Apparently police was there too and said to Mel that she can't have that many people in her place bc she doesn't have enough toilets and showers.She didn't care.Police stopped her also drunk driving.Man she was always drinking beer whole day and then driving around.

So what I am trying to say that this place was kinda messed up,so many people and paying 80$ each person for , meh idk not much.Like we could just put our car there and sleep in it.Some people rented a tent like Paula and Sabi and there were a few rooms which were already full but of course u payed more for that then sleeping in a car.

Paula and Sabi were pissed bc of that and they couldn't even sleep in their car.So they told us about their friends who are at a camping ground just 5 minutes besides this lodge.We decided we will leave Mel's place together and live together in a Bungalow at this camping ground.So we moved and it was fucking crazy.We live now in a Bungalow in our beds,have a TV, a small living room and right at the beach like 70m in front of our house.And we pay 87$ for it lool.I will put some pics up here so u can imagine.

Today is Sunday and yesterday we had our last day at work.On 1st December we booked the ferry to the south island.We will drive down there and spend the December there .At New years eve there is a 5 days festival we booked with the 3 guys together which I am so excited about.We get along so well and after spending almost 2 months time with them,we are friends.

So yep we paid for this place since Tuesday so we stay until that and then we all separate and meet for Christmas again which we will celebrate together.We booked an airbnb house.

I'm sorry I didn't write a text in so long but now I am back and when we will begin the true adventure and leave this place I promise I will keep u updated of the crazy things I see.Ive got finally free space again on my phone so that isn't a problem anymore.

Oh also,the plan is to just travel around with the money we earned till half of January and then return to Jonkers farm where we want to spend a bit of time again and sell our car n'shit and on 10th February I will come back to naziland.

I know this is a very long post but I hope it's okay,I tried to put it short but it's been a long time.

Weekly Market Recap Jul 16, 2017

Market bulls continue to make anyone even moderately cautious (hand raised) look a fool.  A technical breakout mid week on the indexes took the market out of a sleepy range that was looking a bit dangerous.    Monday and Tuesday were the normal sleepiness we’ve come to expect from this slow and steady grind up of 2017 but some fireworks Wednesday and Friday.   Earnings season began in earnest late in the week with major financial stocks reporting “meh” results but the market shook it off.  For the week the S&P 500 gained 1.4% and the NASDAQ 2.6%.

Janet Yellen had been SLIGHTLY hawkish the past few months but her Congressional testimony mid week was viewed as dovish and traders saw that as a reason to BUY BUY BUY.

Yellen said “the evolution of the economy will warrant gradual increases in the federal-funds rate over time to achieve and maintain maximum employment and stable prices.”  Yellen’s remarks come as other central bankers have been expressing a desire to taper easy-money policies that have been in place in the aftermath of the 2008-’09 financial crisis. A so-called more hawkish tilt by global central bankers also had led some to believe that the Fed might be encouraged to ramp up its pace of rate increases despite sluggish inflation.

“It seems like [Yellen’s] dialing back a little bit of the hawkish sentiment from last time,” said Karyn Cavanaugh, senior market strategist at Voya Financial. “She’s back to looking at inflation a little bit more. The market was a little worried but she’s back to the same dovish Yellen.”

That’s the central banker we’ve all come to know and love!

Economic news light and non essential so we will ignore it other than retail sales on Friday which was ignored by the market despite being weak.

Sales at retailers fizzled out in the late spring after getting the season off to a fast start, likely dampening U.S. economic growth in the second quarter.  Sales at retailers nationwide fell 0.2% last month to mark the second straight drop and match the biggest decline of the year, the government said Friday.  Economists had forecast a 0.1% increase in June sales.

Internet retailers continued to grab market share, mostly from traditional department stores whose sales have fallen sharply over the past year. So-called nonstore sales rose 0.4% in June.  Retail sales have climbed a scant 2.8% in the past 12 months, about half as fast as they were rising at the start of the year.

Emerging markets went bonkers late this past week:

The percent of people invested in stocks is at very low levels; the scares of 2008-2009 remain.

44 millions people have side jobs in the U.S.  Wow!

Among those in this group of side-hustlers, 28% of younger millennials — ages 18 to 26 — are the most likely age group to have a side hustle, such as working as an Uber or Lyft driver or connecting with online marketplaces, such as TaskRabbit, which match freelance labor with local demand.  Eighty-six percent of all side-hustlers do it at least monthly, and 36% of them earn more than an additional $500 a month.  Younger baby boomers (53 to 62), many of whom lost their jobs during the recession and are scrambling to make up the income difference as retirement nears, are the most likely age group to earn at least an extra $1,000 a month.

The week ahead…

Earnings season will continue to be in focus as we have a few weeks heavy on S&P 500 type companies:

John Butters, senior analyst at FactSet, projected earnings per share to rise 6.5% in the April-June quarter.

Among notable earnings to watch are Bank of America, Goldman Sachs Group, International Business Machines, Morgan Stanley, Visa, Qualcomm, Microsoft, Netflix, and General Electric.

Economic news in the U.S. will be light and non essential.

The European Central Bank will announce on Thursday. While the central bank is not expected to announce policy changes, any comments by President Mario Draghi in the post-meeting press conference will be closely eyed for any hints of more hawkishness.  “Draghi is likely to remain steadfast in maintaining its ultra-accommodative policy stance, but again recognising a more balanced outlook,” National Australia Bank said in a note.

Investors will eye China’s latest GDP data. China’s economy is estimated to grow 6.8% in the second quarter, according to a Reuters poll of 65 economists, down from a 6.9% pace in the first quarter.

Index charts:

Short term: The breakouts over a downtrend line on the S&P 500 Wednesday and the NASDAQ Thursday are definitely things technicians love to see!

The Russell 2000 popped it’s head yet again out of “THE BIG YELLOW RANGE ™” Wednesday – this has led to IMMEDIATE failure after failure since early June.  Let’s see if we have a change in nature in the week ahead.

The NYSE McClellan Oscillator hit its highest level since late April on Friday.

Long term: Here are 5 year charts on the major indexes; for “non trader types” this is all gravy.

This is starting to get hilarious.  But let me repeat “It was a week – therefore brick & mortar stocks – despite the overall market rally, got hit!” On Monday, Abercrombie & Fitch (ANF) shares lost more than a fifth of their value after the retailer early Monday said it terminated a potential buyout of the company, and Best Buy (BBY) tumbled 6.3% amid worries about heightened competition.

There was some good news in the sector Thursday as Target (TGT) said it now expects a surprise “modest increase” in same-store sales for the fiscal second quarter, citing improved traffic and sales trends. Its stock climbed 4.8%.

Tuesday, Amicus Therapeutics (FOLD), surged 26% in heavy trading after the Food and Drug Administration cleared the company to submit a new drug application for its Fabry disease treatment.

Wednesday, NRG Energy (NRG) soared more than 29% after the company launched transformation plan to cut costs, slash debt and divest assets.

Remember how Snap (SNAP), the parent of SnapChat was going to be the next big thing? Not so much in the stock market at least.

Friday, CyberArk Software (CYBR) shares dropped 16% after the cybersecurity firm reported weaker-than-expected earnings, weighing upon other computer security shares.
