Does anyone have any tips to help stop yourself from comparing your artwork to others, or equating your value as an artist with likes and reblogs?

I've struggled with this for a while and it's getting old, I don't know how to just shrug it off. Any genuine advice would be nice

#its just bygging me bc i know rationally they dont matter i knoe they dont #but i still feel it in my bones that im not good enough because my work doesnt circulate on platforms #i paint for fun and then i post and i get these feelings and theyre so goddamn annoying #i know to just keep posting anyway and try to enjoy the ride but my Depression Brain is such an asshole #i wish it would be quiet #i never used to feel this way either until likes and reposts/reblogs became so integral to social media #on top of needing commissions to get by while looking for work and attending school soon #idk maybe this is just a vent and ik no one can Fix it that simply #i guess im just speaking 2 the void rn and maybe others feel the same #*bugging #and i really am so grateful just to know anyone likes it or comments on it and reading feedback really really means so much #but i feel like unless im pumping out specific fandom stuff that doesnt really happen #but the negative thoughts and feelings can b rly strong sometimes and im just tired #im sure this is a depression thing too #hoping i can get into therapy thru school but it depends on finances as everything else in this world does 🫠#ill keep going tho #and please if you are someone who does comment or reblog and say something about the work please do not ever stop #it means so much to me and others im positive it does #i see you and i appreciate you so so much #thank you and thank you to anyone who reads or comments some ideas

Having a really long-term hyperfixation that has since faded is terrifying yes but it's also so embarrassing. Hi I used to think about Scrimblo Splungus 25/7. Yeah, for 2 years straight. Nah, I don't think about them anymore except for with a vague sense of melancholy as I recall how they used to make me feel. Anyways this new one, Blimpkins McGee? I'm gonna think about them forever and the cycle will NOT repeat in 2 years. Trust me guys.

edit: people are starting to say some "my worst nightmare" or "eeeww no that one is yucky and scary" comments on this like they do on any bug post and id like to say. it's fine if you don't like bugs it's fine if you're scared of bugs but don't put that on MY post clearly talking about how much i like them and how cute i think they are. you can make your own damn post about how much you hate wasps or spiders or whatever. i'm blocking people who make these kinds of comments.

One of my favorite stories to tell about myself from when I was a kid is the story how my grandma’s “Catching Fairies” game was banned because of me

So when I was really little my grandma had this game she made up, she’d give me and all my cousins jars and containers and tell us that in her garden there were fairies but they were smart and tricky so they disguised themselves as caterpillars and butterflies and as grasshoppers and worms.

Whoever caught the most ‘Fairies’ won but we had to set them all free because they tended to the garden

One summer day my brothers were at the age they were dreading ‘girly’ stuff so I was playing alone

At this point I had met all the fairies in the garden and I was getting bored without any competition and with finding the same old fairies

But then just as I was begrudgingly heading back to my grandma with the same fairies as usual I found a new fairy!

I thought she was so beautiful! She was resting on the sparkly thread in the leaves and her black body gleamed in the sunlight, she had long legs and a cool red spot on her back

Excited I coaxed her onto my hand and was so giddy I found a new one! I rushed back to the farm house to show my Grandma and Dad, gently carrying my new friend.

But when my Dad and Grandma turned around to see what fairy I caught I saw the color drain from their faces and both of them freeze, I could tell something was wrong but didn’t understand

My dad congratulated me and asked me if he could see the pretty fairy, I let him but felt a little nervous seeing how terrified he looked as she moved into his hands from mine.

Slowly he walked back towards the door, my grandma clutching my shoulders then my dad LAUNCHED the fairy back into the garden which I thought was rather rude

Then we had a nice long talk about Black Widow spiders
