hi aj! i was rewatching gum drops (such a good one) and i do know that billy had a family emergency and they changed the script because of it but i noticed that while the episode was focused on nick sara did have some attention. like her being suddenly allergic to fingerprint powder and her getting all happy over cupcakes (so cute) so i was wondering what you make out of the fingerprint powder thing cause it never showed up again. thank you, you're the best ❤

so sara's prominent role in episode 06x05 "gum drops" is left over from the original script; she had always been cast in the role of the realist/pessimist csi who doesn't believe that cassie is still alive in contrast to the optimist csi who still believes cassie is alive, just originally for grissom instead of for nick.

as for sara's "i think this print dust is getting to me. would you mind finishing the fridge?" line to greg, i have a slightly different interpretation of it than the one you put forward.

personally, i don't think the implication is that she has an allergy or that it's supposed be a lingering condition.

while she and the rest of the team have spent all morning processing the house and have lifted hundreds of prints, so there is undoubtedly a lot of print dust in the air, she's really no worse for the wear.

after all, this is the girl who once gleefully collected over 1000 prints from a single hotel bathroom (see episode 01x08 "anonymous").

print dust doesn't actually bother her.

if it did, she probably couldn't be a criminalist, tbh.

rather, the line is meant characterize her dynamic with greg.

basically, greg comes over and starts teasing sara about the "gold star" thing, which, as we can see by her facial expression, she is none too pleased with.

in order to get him back and put him in his place, she then foists some scut work onto him, telling him to print the fridge and using the print dust thing as her excuse as to why she needs him to do so.

honestly, the print dust probably isn't irritating her eyes/nose at all.

that's just the reason she gives greg for why she needs him to take over such a monotonous job for her.

it's kind of situation where she is (subtly and mostly lightheartedly) pulling rank, reminding him that he's the csi level i and she's his former trainer and he'd do well to remember as much and show her some respect.

i.e., "oh, yeah, the, uh—" (casts about the room for something she can use to rationalize sticking him with her dirty work) "—the, uh, print dust's getting to me. yeah, yeah, that's it! so why don't you finish up in here for me by taking over this tedious task? that'll teach you."

it's payback for him making fun of her.

check out her wry expression as she gestures for him to accept the job.

greg himself seems to pick up on this fact, given that he offers one last parting blow to sara regarding the stars thing as she takes her leave.

which, as a side note, i think she wants to take at that point because she has a hunch based on greg's observation about the mcbride's absurdly high electricity bill and she wants to explore the rest of the house to see if she is correct.

the issue then never comes up again because sara isn't actually bothered by print dust and she has long since proven her point to greg.

anyway, that's my take, and ymmv.
