All the questions in F, J, P and Y for the character(s) of your choice!
Okay, I decided to do two characters, i can give you a quick run down of who they are briefly before I do the questions:
Varius is from Daemon’s Fault, and is descended from an Ent. He has plant control powers, although this mostly extends to trees, and is generally much tougher than an ordinary human. He’s a slow thinker, often mistaken for a bit stupid, but he’s actually just quiet and comes to conclusions a little slower than others sometimes. He’s a member of the protagonist group, who joined up after a year of living out in the woods to avoid working a job in retail.
Mycelia is a fae from Fourteen Souls, specifically one who was raised around mushrooms, and takes on a lot of fungal properties herself. She is currently under the employ of a dystopian corporate entity known as SladeCorp, as a member of a secret police group, known as the Black Coats. Her specialties are in interrogation, surveillance, and poisoning.
Varius:
F: Fun
1. what do they do for fun?
Varius likes to read, but he’s not above Vidja games when Maddy or Dulan rope him into them, or board games when they have the time. His favorite games are cooperative, not competetive.
2. what is their ideal party?
Honestly, he’s not much for parties, he’s just happy to hang out with his friend group.
3. who would they have the most fun with?
Of the group, probably Sacharissa (Descended from a Rusalka, she’s kind of like the unintentionall Team Mom).
4. can they have fun while conforming to rules?
Yeah, probably. Does he often? No, mostly because the group grafs him out on their hijinks.
5. do they go out a lot?
Like partying? No, not really. There’s probably a lot of takeout going on at their home base. The group lives in a city where most of the story takes place, so they do have a lot of opportunity to get of the house.
J: Joy
1. what makes them happy?
Varius is happiest when he’s at peace, surrounded by his friends, and just… Existing in the same space.
Beyond that, he does very much enjoy the feeling of solving a puzzle or mystery.
2. who makes them happy?
His friend group, the main character group. So Miles, Dulan, Sacharissa, Maddy, and Ash.
3. are there any songs that bring them joy?
For Varius specifically? He’s probably a fan of Always Take The Weather With You by Crowded House.
4. are they happy often?
Since he joined the main character group, yeah. That wasn’t always the case, though, since he did run off to live in the woods after about a year working in retail.
5. what brings them the most joy in the world?
This is a complex question. I think that Varius gets a profound sense of joy and satisfaction from helping people with things that are important.
P: Personality
1. what is their best personality trait?
The fact that he’s apparantly slow, but actually just careful.
2. what is their worst personality trait?
Others will complain about him not really tending to act with any urgency. They tend to get impatient with him easily.
3. what of their personality do others love?
Those that know him appreciate that he takes time to really observe a situation before taking action.
4. what of their personality do others envy?
Probably his patience.
5. do they hate anything about their personality/about other’s personalities?
Not particularly, no.
Y: You
1. how old were you when you created them?
He was probably one of the earliest characters I created so, maybe around fifteen or sixteen?
2. what inspired you to create them?
The initial idea was to have the main character group represent four basic elements. Varius for Earth, Dulan for Air, Sacharissa for Water, and Ash for Fire. And then Miles is also here. (I watched a lot of Avatar: TLA growing up, and being a fan of Golden Sun helped with the four elements thing.)
3. were they different when they were first created?
Yeah. Initially, a lot of the story was different. The concept of them having inherited aspects of mythology wasn’t present yet, and Varius was a lot more of a throwaway character than he is now.
4. do you enjoy writing them more than other characters?
On a scale of one to ten, where one is “I always prioritize writing them last, because it feels like a chore” and ten is “I will always prioritize them above writing about other characters”, Varius is about at a 6.
5. what’s your favorite thing about them?
Sometimes he sneaks casual tree puns into conversation, and people don’t notice until months later. He gets a kick out of it.
Mycelia:
F: Fun
1. what do they do for fun?
“Fun” isn’t really a concept Mycelia has had a lot of exposure to, but in her free time, she’s trying to develop a truth serum as her own personal project.
It’s uh. It’s not going well.
2. what is their ideal party?
Mycelia fills a very versatile role, with both high defense, and a wide variety of status moves at her disposal. She likes to believe she works best on her own, but in truth, she works best with a close-range melee fighter, and a long-range mage, to distract her opponents and take the final shot after she’s weakened them significantly.
…Oh wait, did you mean social parties?
3. who would they have the most fun with?
Mycelia is extremely antisocial. I might even go so far as to say she’s misanthropic. She genuinely hates the people she works with, on account of the other secret police being literal boogeymen, much like herself, and she views the humans in Slade City as animals to be observed and controlled.
So who does she have the most fun with? Honestly, no one.
4. can they have fun while conforming to rules?
She kind of has to, being a member of a high-stakes secret police organization.
5. do they go out a lot?
No. At least, not unless it’s for “work”. (Usually doing very bad things)
J: Joy
1. what makes them happy?
Genuinely this is difficult. She’s a bit of a tragic character in order to show off how evil her employers are.
But…
Fashion. She enjoys carefully styling her appearance, and even grows new fungal ‘accessories’ to help with her look. Currently, she wears a wide-brim black hat (with a few mushroom growths on top), and a pink “boa” except instead of being made of feathers, it’s all fungal matter,
2. who makes them happy?
Currently, the only person who supports her is her “Boss”, Slade himself. A mysterious and very powerful individual whose mission statement is to kill and replace the gods, in order to salvage the broken world.
Slade promises her that she will be able to, as one of Slade’s New Gods, right the atrocities that humanity has committed against the fae in the past. This is genuinely one of the biggest things she has to cling to.
3. are there any songs that bring them joy?
She… Does not listen to music.
4. are they happy often?
I would say… No. Probably not a lot. Even though she’s an antagonist, she is still somewhat of a victim, and doesn’t know anything besides her corrupted ideals.
Also the fact that she has steel bone grafts, which cause her constant, searing pain. (Fae are allergic to non-naturally occuring metals & alloys)
5. what brings them the most joy in the world?
Honestly, she does take a little catharsis in human experimentation, while developing her truth serum and any new poisons or toxins she happens to think up.
In her mind, it’s only fair. Humans have been doing this sort of cruel experimentation to the fae for centuries, so she sees it as a kind of payback.
…Even though her victims are entirely innocent of the horrors committed against faekind, but nevermind that.
P: Personality
1. what is their best personality trait?
Probably her bluntness, to be honest. I dunno what else I would say since she’s evil.
2. what is their worst personality trait?
Probably the fact that, as a Fae, she has an inherent hatred of humanity, to the point of genuine racism. She views humans as beneath Faekind, and is NOT interested in exploring ideas to the contrary.
Also, on top of that, arrogance.
3. what of their personality do others love?
She’s at the very least blunt and practical with the other Black Coats. She does not joke around, and she is never sarcastic. She always does what it takes to get the job done, often in the coldest possible way.
…That’s the best I had. The Black Coats do not have a great fondness for each other, in fact they kinda fucking hate each other.
4. what of their personality do others envy?
They… Do not.
5. do they hate anything about their personality/about other’s personalities?
Mycelia does have a bit of a temper at times, when things don’t go her way. She has been known to get into screaming matches with some of her colleagues, or even her subjects, for the undesired results of her experiments.
Y: You
1. how old were you when you created them?
She’s a relatively recent addition to the cast, only about two ish years ago? So probably like, 25, 26?
2. what inspired you to create them?
A lot of @feefal’s drawings. I realized they meshed a lot with the worldbuilding I had done of the Fae, so I did a bunch of research on mushrooms specifically, applied a bunch of different properties to a fae, and gave her a shitty pun for a name.
3. were they different when they were first created?
No, she’s been pretty consistant. She’s a bit more sympathetic in some ways than she used to be, but thats it, really.
4. do you enjoy writing them more than other characters?
On the same scale of one to ten mentioned above, she’s probably about a… Seven.
5. what’s your favorite thing about them?
Honestly, rather proud of the amount of research I’ve put into her set of abilities, which turned out to make her a very frightening antagonist. She can shoot spore bullets or clouds from her hands, which can be laced with poison she can control the symptoms of. She can remotely connect with spore clusters she lays down as a part of her surveillance. She’s entirely fireproof. And if you were to take a bite out of her, which I wouldn’t reccomend, she tastes like chicken. (All real mushroom traits that i found!)
