What films do you unironically enjoy that are renowned as bad?

Every time I watch Wild Wild West (1999) or The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003) I have a good time and I will not apologise for this.

I feel like I’m weird for making it through seasons 14 and 15 only to fall off after. Idk, I enjoyed 15 well enough barring a few rough jokes early on that really didn’t land. I guess I just sat on it after and came to the conclusion that the blues and reds felt underutilized as villains? Like Temple’s great, but like all the rest don’t really do more than be really one off jokes that don’t really highlight the growth that the reds and blues have had over the years I feel. Like I came out the other side positive enough but the more I thought on the season the more I felt it’s writing missed the mark on various character plots, some real missed potential there.

The stuff I saw of 16 and 17 looked pretty cool? Whenever it filtered through my dash? But idk something about 15 killed my momentum and the neat stuff about the next few seasons got really tempting but somehow didn’t quite get me hooked back. I’m sure there are/were general rt things that have happened over the past few years that soured my drive to come back to it somewhat too.

Maybe I’ll finally go and watch 16 and 17 when I’ve got some free time someday soon, it’s not like they’re making more seasons anytime soon as far as I know.

it’s not weird, anon. i honestly thought more people did that, till i saw the actual numbers. i think the ending of 15 was… weak? it definitely had some good moments but it was the climactic finale that had to follow up 13’s finale and, like, that was never gonna happen. like, season 11 respected that it wasn’t going to hit the highs of season 10 in terms of, like, big epic drama, so it kept its stakes relatively low. but because the climax’s stakes are so much higher than the rest of the season’s stakes were while still having a good ramp up to them, it still feels very dramatic. it doesn’t stack up to 10’s climax but it’s not trying to. 15 on the other hand was desperately trying to top 13’s climax and it just. it didn’t stand a chance. the ramp up wasn’t horrible but it also wasn’t great and the stakes shot to the fucking MOON (and will just get higher from here). i think i had more to say but i lost it ANYWAY i totally get why someone would fall off after 15.

you’re SO fucking right about the blues and reds i literally. i am literally trying to rework them into my own horrible little men bc i like the concept of them A LOT but they’re executed so fucking bad in canon. i don’t know if you’ve read this post of mine but i talk more about my problems with the blues and reds there

as for continuing to watch. i think 17 is genuinely a good piece of fiction. not a GREAT piece of fiction, but given what it was handed it did a pretty solid job. “solid” is really the word i would use to describe 17. it’s a solid season of red vs blue.

16, however, is a hot fucking mess. i like 16 bc i LOVE hot messes and i have big “i can fix him” energy towards stuff like 16 but i can definitely understand why people think it’s the worst season of rvb. would say it’s my third least favorite. honestly if you (or anyone else) wanted i could let you know what parts to skip bc quite a few just offer absolutely no narrative, character or comedic value whatsoever.

#### An anti-war activist was visited by California Highway Patrol officers after posting video of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s bumbling comments on Israel-Palestine. The action, which AOC denies triggering, was initiated by a call to US Capitol Police.

As he waited for a food delivery at his home in Los Angeles on April 8, Ryan Wentz, an anti-war activist and producer for the online viral program Soapbox, heard two men calling his name from over his front gate. When he approached, he realized they were not delivery drivers, but police officers flashing badges of the California Highway Patrol.

The cops informed Wentz that they had received a call from the Capitol Police, the federal law enforcement agency tasked with protecting the US Congress, about a tweet he had sent that allegedly threatened Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Wentz told The Grayzone, “The officers said, ‘We got a warning about a sitting member of Congress. And it was because of your tweet, which tagged them in it.’ And then they just wouldn’t back down from this accusation that I threatened to kill her.”

Though AOC’s office has denied falsely informing Capitol Police of an online threat by Wentz, the Democratic congresswoman has in the past asked her supporters to report critics to social media censors.

Whoever called the police on Wentz furnished law enforcement with a patently false allegation, as he has never threatened violence against any member of Congress.

In the tweet that triggered the police action, Wentz merely posted video of AOC delivering a vapid and embarrassingly convoluted answer to a question about resolving the crisis in Israel-Palestine. Describing her answer as “incredibly underwhelming,” he let the congresswoman’s cringeworthy commentary speak for itself.

Asked by Michael S. Miller of the New York Jewish Community Relations Council about actions that could be taken to support movements towards peace between Jewish Israelis and Palestinians, AOC responded as follows:

And I think that when we talk about peace, centering people’s humanity, protecting people’s rights – it’s not just about the what and the end goal which actually gets a lot of focus, but I actually think it’s much more about the how, and the way we are coming together, and how we interpret that what, and how we act in, you know, the actions we take to get to that what. > > So what this really is about is a question more than anything else about process. And we really need to make sure that we are valuing a process where all parties are respected and have, you know, a lot of equal opportunity to really make sure we are negotiating in good faith, etcetera. That being said, you know, I think there’s just this one central issue of settlements, because if the what – if the what has been decided on as two state, then the action of settlements, it’s not the how to get to that what. > > And so, you know, I think that’s a central thing that, you know, we center. And that we value Jewish and rather, we value Israeli, uh, uh, uh, we value the safety and human rights of Israelis, we value the safety and human rights of Palestinians, in that process that is similar, and that is on equal footing. And so all of that is extremely important in that process.

The video that Wentz tweeted of AOC’s long-winded dodge of a fundamental question about resolving the Israeli occupation of Palestine prompted a flood of online mockery and contempt, mostly from leftist Twitter users. Many derided AOC as a careerist who had abandoned progressive causes like Palestinian liberation in order to curry favor with Democratic Party power brokers, while others ridiculed her meaningless word salad.

Within hours of the online pile-on, someone reported Wentz to the Capitol Police for tweeting the video that embarrassed AOC. Because Wentz does not provide any information about his personal identity in his public Twitter profile, the social media giant appeared to have provided his private details to federal law enforcement.

“Another weird thing is usually I would get a report [from Twitter],” Wentz said, “because I’ve gotten my tweets reported before. But I didn’t get any notification about this.”

AOC’s staff has previously appealed to social media censors to suppress online criticism. On February 4, 2021, her campaign sent a mass email to supporters asking them to “scan your social media to find posts with misleading information” about the congresswoman, and “use the built-in report feature to flag them for moderators.”

Team AOC issued its appeal for supporters to police social media in response to right-wing mockery of a [dramatic livestream][15] in which AOC suggested that the mob which stormed the Capitol building on January 6 nearly assassinated her.

“I just hear these yells of ‘WHERE IS SHE? WHERE IS SHE?’” she recounted in the livestream. “This was the moment where I thought everything was over. I thought I was going to die.”

However, the source of the yells which had terrified AOC turned out to be a Capitol Police officer who had been dispatched to protect her. Further, the congresswoman’s office was located in the Cannon House Office Building, which had not been penetrated by any rioters on January 6.

Right-wing activists and other political foes of AOC [exploited these points][16] to launch a viral hashtag likening the congresswoman to Jussie Smollet, the actor who faked an attack on himself. After [attempting to challenge][17] her critics directly, AOC delegated her staff to dispatch its army of supporters to report critics en masse to Twitter and Facebook censors.

Weeks earlier, podcaster Jimmy Dore had initiated a [“Force The Vote”][18] campaign to pressure AOC and fellow members of the progressive congressional “Squad” to withhold their votes for Rep. Nancy Pelosi as speaker of the House until Pelosi agreed to bring a bill for Medicare for All to the floor for a vote.

According to Wentz, the police officers that visited him asked if he had any violent intent behind his tweet, then left. “If this was like a purely intimidation thing,” he reflected, “then I guess it did its job. It’s not comforting to be on the receiving end of that. But at the same time, they’re not going to shut the left up.”

Wentz’s disturbing encounter with law enforcement appears to be part of an emerging trend. On the same date law enforcement visited him, a Twitter user posted photos of alleged federal agents on their front lawn and claimed, “FBI just came by my house for a tweet to Ted Cruz.”

6. Robert Jay Lifton’s Eight Criteria of Thought Reform

“I wish to suggest a set of criteria against which any environment may be judged — a basis for answering the ever-recurring question: “Isn’t this just like ‘brainwashing’?” – Robert Jay Lifton

“Ideological Totalism” is Chapter 22 of Robert Jay Lifton’s book, Thought Reform and the Psychology of Totalism: A Study of ‘brainwashing’ in China

Dr. Lifton, a psychiatrist and author, has studied the psychology of extremism for decades. He is renowned for his studies of the psychological causes and effects of war and political violence and for his theory of thought reform. Lifton testified at the 1976 bank robbery trial of Patty Hearst about the theory of “coercive persuasion.”

His theories — including the often-referred to 8 criteria described below — are used and expanded upon by many cult experts.

First published in 1961, his book was reprinted in 1989 by the University of North Carolina Press. From Chapter 22:

8 CRITERIA AGAINST WHICH ANY ENVIRONMENT MAY BE JUDGED:

Milieu Control – The control of information and communication.

Mystical Manipulation – The manipulation of experiences that appear spontaneous but in fact were planned and orchestrated.

The Demand for Purity – The world is viewed as black and white and the members are constantly exhorted to conform to the ideology of the group and strive for perfection.

The Cult of Confession – Sins, as defined by the group, are to be confessed either to a personal monitor or publicly to the group.

The Sacred Science – The group’s doctrine or ideology is considered to be the ultimate Truth, beyond all questioning or dispute.

Loading the Language – The group interprets or uses words and phrases in new ways so that often the outside world does not understand.

Doctrine over person – The member’s personal experiences are subordinated to the sacred science and any contrary experiences must be denied or reinterpreted to fit the ideology of the group.

The Dispensing of existence – The group has the prerogative to decide who has the right to exist and who does not.

Eight Conditions of Thought Reform as presented in 
Thought Reform and the Psychology of Totalism, Chapter 22.

1. Milieu Control The most basic feature of the thought reform environment, the psychological current upon which all else depends, is the control of human communication. Through this milieu control the totalist environment seeks to establish domain over not only the individual’s communication with the outside (all that he sees and hears, reads and writes, experiences, and expresses), but also — in its penetration of his inner life — over what we may speak of as his communication with himself. It creates an atmosphere uncomfortably reminiscent of George Orwell’s 1984…. (Page 420.) Purposeful limitation of all forms of communication with outside world.

The control of human communication through environment control.

The cult doesn’t just control communication between people, it also controls people’s communication with themselves, in their own minds.

2. Mystical Manipulation The inevitable next step after milieu control is extensive personal manipulation. This manipulation assumes a no-holds-barred character, and uses every possible device at the milieu’s command, no matter how bizarre or painful. Initiated from above, it seeks to provoke specific patterns of behavior and emotion in such a way that these will appear to have arisen spontaneously from within the environment. This element of planned spontaneity, directed as it is by an ostensibly omniscient group, must assume, for the manipulated, a near-mystical quality. (Page 422.) Potential convert is convinced of the higher purpose within the special group.

Everyone is manipulating everyone, under the belief that it advances the “ultimate purpose.”

Experiences are engineered to appear to be spontaneous, when, in fact, they are contrived to have a deliberate effect.

People mistakenly attribute their experiences to spiritual causes when, in fact, they are concocted by human beings.

3. The Demand for Purity The experiential world is sharply divided into the pure and the impure, into the absolutely good and the absolutely evil. The good and the pure are of course those ideas, feelings, and actions which are consistent with the totalist ideology and policy; anything else is apt to be relegated to the bad and the impure. Nothing human is immune from the flood of stern moral judgements. (Page 423.) The philosophical assumption underlying this demand is that absolute purity is attainable, and that anything done to anyone in the name of this purity is ultimately moral.

The cult demands Self-sanctification through Purity.

Only by pushing toward perfection, as the group views goodness, will the recruit be able to contribute.

The demand for purity creates a guilty milieu and a shaming milieu by holding up standards of perfection that no human being can attain.

People are punished and learn to punish themselves for not living up to the group’s ideals.

4. The Cult of Confession Closely related to the demand for absolute purity is an obsession with personal confession. Confession is carried beyond its ordinary religious, legal, and therapeutic expressions to the point of becoming a cult in itself. (Page 425.) Public confessional periods are used to get members to verbalize and discuss their innermost fears and anxieties as well as past imperfections.

The environment demands that personal boundaries are destroyed and that every thought, feeling, or action that does not conform with the group’s rules be confessed.

Members have little or no privacy, physically or mentally.

5. Aura of Sacred Science The totalist milieu maintains an aura of sacredness around its basic dogma, holding it out as an ultimate moral vision for the ordering of human existence. This sacredness is evident in the prohibition (whether or not explicit) against the questioning of basic assumptions, and in the reverence which is demanded for the originators of the Word, the present bearers of the Word, and the Word itself. While thus transcending ordinary concerns of logic, however, the milieu at the same time makes an exaggerated claim of airtight logic, of absolute “scientific” precision. Thus the ultimate moral vision becomes an ultimate science; and the man who dares to criticize it, or to harbor even unspoken alternative ideas, becomes not only immoral and irreverent, but also “unscientific”. In this way, the philosopher kings of modern ideological totalism reinforce their authority by claiming to share in the rich and respected heritage of natural science. (Pages 427-428.) The cult advances the idea that the cult’s laws, rules and regulations are absolute and, therefore, to be followed automatically.

The group’s belief is that their dogma is absolutely scientific and morally true.

No alternative viewpoint is allowed.

No questioning of the dogma is permitted.

6. Loading the Language The language of the totalist environment is characterized by the thought-terminating cliché. [Slogans] The most far-reaching and complex of human problems are compressed into brief, highly reductive, definitive-sounding phrases, easily memorized and easily expressed. The cult invents a new vocabulary, giving well-known words special new meanings, making them into trite clichés. The clichés become “ultimate terms”, either “god terms”, representative of ultimate good, or “devil terms”, representative of ultimate evil. Totalist language, then, is repetitiously centered on all-encompassing jargon, prematurely abstract, highly categorical, relentlessly judging, and to anyone but its most devoted advocate, deadly dull: the language of non-thought. (Page 429.)

Controlling words helps to control people’s thoughts.

The group uses black-or-white thinking and thought-terminating clichés.

The special words constrict rather than expand human understanding.

Non-members cannot simply comprehend what cult members are talking about.

7. Doctrine over Person Another characteristic feature of ideological totalism: the subordination of human experience to the claims of doctrine. (Page 430.) Past experience and values are invalid if they conflict with the new cult morality.

The value of individuals is insignificant when compared to the value of the group.

Past historical events are retrospectively altered, wholly rewritten, or ignored to make them consistent with doctrinal logic.

No matter what a person experiences, it is belief in the dogma which is important.

Group belief supersedes individual conscience and integrity.

8. Dispensed Existence The totalist environment draws a sharp line between those whose right to existence can be recognized, and those who possess no such right. Lifton gave a Communist example:
In thought reform, as in Chinese Communist practice generally, the world is divided into “the people” (defined as “the working class, the peasant class, the petite bourgeoisie, and the national bourgeoisie”), and “the reactionaries” or “the lackies of imperialism” (defined as “the landlord class, the bureaucratic capitalist class, and the KMT reactionaries and their henchmen”). (Page 433.)

The group decides who has a right to exist and who does not.

The group has an elitist world view — a sharp line is drawn by cult between those who have been saved, chosen, etc., (the cult members) and those who are lost, in the dark, etc., (the rest of the world).

Former members are seen as “weak,” “lost,” “evil,” and “the enemy”.

The cult insists that there is no legitimate alternative to membership in the cult.

It’s time to come forward.

I've been going through a lot, lately. Ever since late June. I'm making this thread right now, and I hope I don't regret this. I want to make myself right again, and I feel like my mental health is deteriorating. So, here's the thread for my mutuals & friends:

They used to be my friends. Very good friends I consider. But because of my behavior, I went too far and treated them poorly that they cut me out.

You might know that I interacted with @/Curvishsundown a lot. An artist I've known since Tumblr, and we followed each other on there and here for 4 years and became good friends with. You may know her because I interact & talk with her friends and followed other content creators she follows, and liked & replied to her tweets. Both main and art accounts.

I became too obsessive with her and her husband, @/JRcmxtm for the past 2 months. I made them uncomfortable and I kept "checking" on them too much on an alternate account.

I would see her liked tweets, and RT them. Liked & replied to each of them. Followed the people she knows, because I'm interested in their content. I went through her account and kept tabs on her. That's where the line was crossed, and I walked over it. They were unintentional. I never meant to be a stalker and watched her like a hawk. And you may know this if you've followed me for a long time, my emotional outbursts made her even more uncomfortable.

(Trigger warnings) When speaking to Sundown about this, I would shutdown. Draw a blank. I would...even contemplate sui/cide. It was too much for Sundown to bare and I put too much emotional baggage on her. So she separated herself from me. We moved forward with the fact that we needed the space. But because of how stubborn I am, I didn't respect her wishes. The conversation we had on Discord should've stopped when she said "Be safe." to me. I responded "I will."

But I still went through her account. I even kept sending her messages on Discord repeatedly for days. From July 16-17 to the 28-30. It was there the final straw was pulled, she blocked me. After a single day, I made a new alternate account on Twitter. I was LoopDusk, Corvin. I followed her and JRcmxtm again, followed their friends, and liked & RT'd their posts.

That's when JRcmxtm messaged me on LoopDusk, confronted me and found me out. To try and throw them off, I messaged JRcmxtm on my main to "block that guy". Now they won't speak to me anymore. I deleted my persona account afterward.

Still being out of line, I argued, bargained and negotiated with JRcmxtm that I wanted to be friends again. His answer was no. I sent Sundown two last messages through Discord. But now she's scared of me. And she has the right to be, and I don't blame her. I have unstable emotions, I break down, and I fear of being abandoned. She said her piece to me, and blocked me for good.

Curvishsundown and JRcmxtm is no longer affiliated with. And if you're affiliated with them and me, you should probably think about leaving me as well. She know's I'm not a bad person at heart. But I feel like I'm not a good man after everything I have done. So now, I have a distinct feeling she will be blocking anyone close to me. I don't blame her. If you're friends with me, I will allow you to take the time to think this over. I'm also friends with two other people they cut out of their life. That was about half a year ago or so.

Again, if you're mutuals/friends with me, I will allow you to think about my side of the story.

Sundown and JRcmxtm may no longer be my friends anymore, but I hope they know I still care about them. Sunny, Joshie, if you ever read this, I truly, honestly, genuinely am incredibly sorry. You deserved a better friend than me. I will always consider you guys my friends. So good bye. I hope you two will stay safe, even during the BLM protests.

Do you think zeke have a “god complex” or he arrogant?

I know next to nothing to the “God Complex”, so I don’t feel like talking about something I am not knowledgeable in, especially when it comes to something as personal and complex as psychological analysis. I would love to read a psychologist’s analysis on Zeke and other characters, but unfortunately, I am not a specialist, so I can and will only spend words on the aspects that I do have some knowledge about.

By reading this page, though, I would say that no, he doesn’t suffer from God Complex.

As for his “arrogance”, I think it’s mainly a trait that comes up in relation to his actions on the battlefield, right? But aside from that? He was a kind-hearted child. Even at 16-17, he wasn’t arrogant in daily life or when it comes to how he perceived himself.

I would call him (overly-)confident rather than arrogant (the same I’d say about Levi, and Mikasa). The reason, as far as I’m concerned, is simple. Even if he was a weak kid when it came to physical strength (probably also because he unconsciously didn’t even wanna succeed), he worked hard and became a warrior and after that, a warchief everyone respected. I don’t think he cares if others look up to him (if anything he may feel saddened by this), but it is true that he is one of the strongest warriors, who was used by the military to settle difficult and desperate situations. So, of course, he may feel like he has the upper hand in combat.  

I think he isn’t arrogant in the traditional meaning of the word, if at all. He doesn’t think he is better than others, that other people are always wrong, that his plan is infallible, nor he dismisses people if they tell him he's wrong (nobody has told him as much until this point), etc. He just wants everything to stop and he has convinced himself (for the reason I have already explained in all my posts about him and his childhood) that he has the best solution. And this has roots in depression, not arrogance.

He comes off as arrogant maybe because of how he treated the SC in RtS, but I see it as a coping mechanism, as much as Annie’s. She too came off as arrogant when she was smiling at the soldiers she used as yo-yos, but the truth is, she hated doing that. Bertolt also felt arrogant in RtS to me, but I know he really isn’t. It’s all about forcing themselves to act that way, to believe that what they’re doing is the only option, and to dehumanize the enemy, or they would lose it. I think I’ve read once upon a time that it’s a mindset that soldiers welcomed in real-life wars, to stay sane.

But as a warchief, as a comrade? What we saw in Marley when he interacted with the other warriors or with Eren…it wasn’t arrogance. I feel he acted either really professional - especially when higher-ups were around -, or quite reliable and, dare I say, soft? He’s like a big brother in the position of superior officer amongst the warriors, to the point that they felt comfortable enough with him to let their distaste for Marley slip every now and then.

I don’t know how much of his personality is genuine, but that’s what happens when one has to constantly keep their guard up since they were a little kid. Surely his behaving upbeat, or jokey, or his diligent warchief attitude are all partly faked traits, because we know in reality he is a deeply depressed man, managing to go on only because of a mission, that we could say is his life-goal.

But as far as I’m concerned, I feel like his caring for Eren, being off-handedly worried about Gabi and Falco and protecting the warriors from exposing their hate for Marley when Marley was overhearing their conversations was him feeling genuinely involved.

THE EPISCOPAL RESPONSE TO THE CLIMATE CRISISFROM THE GREEN TEAM

The care of God’s creation is a priority of The Episcopal Church on every level. Locally, the Saint James’ Green Team suggests small ways to help our environment. But the entire organizational structure of national and international Church is deeply concerned about climate change and recognizes our responsibility as Christians to care for God’s creation.

Here are some ways the Episcopal Church is responding to the creation crisis.

THE DIOCESE OF VIRGINIA

The Diocesan Annual Convention, which will be held on November 14-16 in Arlington, will have as its theme “Wonder in All,” a phrase taken from our baptismal covenant and reflecting our respect for God’s creation.

There will be two keynote speakers of great interest, both of whom are active in environmental activism. The Rt. Rev. Marc Andrus, Bishop of the Diocese of California, is the author of “Heal This Planet; Heal Our Souls” in the most recent Virginia Episcopalian. The Rev. Melanie Mullen is the Director of Reconciliation, Justice & Creation Care for the Diocese of Virginia.

At the Convention, the diocesan Creation Care Task Force, the “umbrella” under which the Saint James’ Green Team operates, will host a workshop and have a table in the hall. And Green Team members will be there to help! Stay tuned for news from this dynamic and interesting event.

THE EPISCOPAL CHURCH

In 2018, the triennial General Convention passed Resolution C008: Advocacy for Creation Care. The national Church has also developed “An Episcopal Vision for Creation Care.”

THE ANGLICAN COMMUNION

The Lambeth Conference, which draws together bishops from the worldwide Anglican Communion, occurs every decade. Archbishop Justin Welby has just announced that the 2020 Conference will focus on climate change.

UK Police Say Prince Andrew Has No Case to Answer in Sex Probe, But the Damage is Done in the Eyes of the Public

The fact London police won’t pursue Prince Andrew over sexual assault allegations made by a young woman will not have a major effect on his future. The court of public opinion has no wish to see him in a prominent role ever again.

What, precisely, is the purpose of Prince Andrew? What does this bloke actually DO? I mean, his working day consists of what, exactly? Will Britain be depleted in any way by his permanent removal from the world stage? Nah, I don’t think so.

The most toxic of royals is ninth in line to the throne, and there would have to be some serious carnage in the House of Windsor for his pampered backside to ever truly be required to sit on the United Kingdom’s throne.

But before we proceed any further, it’s important to be very, very clear: as odious as he is, Prince Andrew has done nothing illegal and he has not been found guilty of any crime in a court of law. The Metropolitan Police have now decided he has no case to answer in the face of historic sexual assault allegations arising from his friendship with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Yet in another respect, he has already been found guilty – of being an unpleasant, entitled arse. That’s a unanimous verdict in the court of public opinion from the people who have paid this bloke’s bills for the entire 61 years of his life. Few people like the man, and even fewer want to see him hanging around doing royal business.

Most Brits, I’d suggest, share the opinion of Prince William – who is, according to the Sunday Times, “not a fan of his uncle Andrew.” Andrew has an “ungracious and ungrateful” attitude towards his position, and Prince William considers him “a risk” and “threat to the family.”

A source told the Sunday Times, “Any suggestion that there isn't gratitude for the institution, anything that could lead anyone in the public to think that senior members of the royal family aren’t grateful for their position, [William thinks] is really dangerous.”

And Prince Andrew, well, he serves no function whatsoever. He is, as my granny used to always say of feckless types, “neither use nor ornament.”

Anyone who saw his ‘car crash’ interview on the BBC’s ‘Newsnight’ programme a couple of years ago can have little doubt about the man’s character. I watched it and thought it confirmed what I had been told by several people over the years. People who actually knew the guy told me that he was, essentially, just a pompous fool. Aloof, arrogant, and self-absorbed.

And if anyone had a high regard for the bloke’s intelligence, that was soon dispelled by the news that the “buoyant” prince apparently told his mummy, the Queen, that the interview was a “great success.” Righto, Andy, righto.

At the centre of the controversy surrounding Prince Andrew is a woman named Virginia Giuffre, who plans to sue him in a US court over allegations that she was forced to have sex with him three times when she was only 17.

Police in London studied these claims and have concluded that they would be taking “no further action.” The age of consent in the UK is 16 so, even if the allegations were true – and Prince Andrew denies having ever met Giuffre – he would not have done anything illegal. Any argument over ‘procurement’ and definition of consent would be for a court to decide. Not you and I.

But in terms of Andrew’s public perception, the police’s decision is largely irrelevant. Most British people agree with Prince William that he should be kept away from public life with a very long stick. Yet Prince Andrew is so deluded, he apparently still believes he should be able to return to business as usual. As The Mirror’s Royal Editor Russell Myers so aptly put it on the ITV show ‘Lorraine’: “I think he is the only person in the entire world at the moment who is clinging to the aspect that he could return.”

Ah, but, you see, in his princely mind he’s done nothing wrong because, well, he’s a prince, and princes can never do anything wrong. That’s why it’s so cool to be a prince; you can do what the hell you like.

Oh yeah? Well what about dragging your family name through the sewer by the company you keep?

All this stems, you see, from the prince’s relationship with financier Epstein, who took his secrets with him to the grave when he killed himself in prison in 2019. There’s a photo of Prince Andrew with his arm around the girl who made the allegations. Another good chum of Prince Andrew’s is also in that photo, hanging around in the background: Epstein’s former girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell. She is, basically, accused of being Epstein’s ‘madam’ and of finding the twisted pervert his prey.

The main takeaway from that ‘Newsnight’ interview with Emily Maitlis was a bizarre claim by the prince that he doesn’t sweat, or at least he didn’t at the time he was alleged to have been with Giuffre. That was, apparently, due to some weird, improbable condition caused by being shot at when he was serving during the Falklands War (notice how he sneaked in the fact he has served his country in a warzone). The bovine prince, allegedly, danced a bit and sweated all over the poor teenager during those three sexual events that, allegedly, never happened in New York, London, and the financier’s private island in the Caribbean.

Ghislaine Maxwell’s trial is coming up next month in New York. Whatever the UK police think, reckon Prince Andrew might sweat a bit during her time in court?
