With Max gone, you were the one subject to the wrath of Jos Verstappen, especially when you stopped karting after a couple years. So while your brother was off winning grand prix after grand prix, you were continually reminded that you aren’t good enough, that you were the dud of a child.

“Maxie, tell me a story,” you call your older brother in tears one night, you don’t blame him for the fact that you are a failure. You love your older brother more than anything.

With a heavy sigh, Max dives into a made up story, like he was a poet trapped inside the body of a race car driver, except he is an awful storyteller. He does but doesn’t want to know the BS your lame excuse for a father told you.

Max is your best, and only friend, your consolation prize for surviving this far. You stopped really leaving home years ago, only leaving to go to the grocery store. Even to your job, you were just another remote employee.

Max only ever wants the best for his sister, you haven’t seen Victoria since you were so young that you don’t really even know if she actually exists, so he is all you have. Victoria doesn’t really remember you either, seeing as how you were the child of an affair. Max always tries to bring you to races as a lucky charm, but your response is always the same ‘i don’t believe in good luck, maybe next time’. It’s like you are scared to leave home, safer in the comfort of the walls you’ve only ever known.

You pull out your headphones and listen to music, tuning out the world. You hate it here, you hate your father, but you only know of one way to escape. You close your eyes and go to the little paradise in your mind. You read about something similar when you were a kid from a book Max you. It sits on your nightstand, the spine worn and frayed from years of use.

That’s similar to how Max finds you when he arrives a couple weeks later. By now he is used to finding you in that state, you spend most of your free time in your own mind.

“Y/n? Where do you go? In your mind,” Max asks, laying beside you in your bed.

“A little garden, you need a key to get in though,” you say, a little dazed.

“And how would one get a key?” He asks further, trying to keep you engaged.

“There is only one, mine,” you reply, moving to grab your headphones again. Max quickly, but gently takes them.

“Charles was asking about you. He wanted to know how you were, since he hasn’t seen you since I joined F3,” Max continues, you just look at him, an oddity in your dark room.

“Charles?” You ask and Max nods.

“My friend, you thought he had a silly accent, and thought he was cute,” Max elaborates, searching your face to see a look of recognition. You just shrug.

“We used to play games, travel back in time to different decades. You loved the 1800s,” Max says, not ready to give up.

“I was a debutante,” you whisper causing Max to smile brightly. You just shake your head, you read once that nostalgia is a minds trick. “I bet I hated it, it is always freezing in the palace,” you say, unknowingly giving Max a glimpse into the secret escapes in your mind. In your fantasies you travel everywhere even to space. Secretly you love it, but you are more than content to stay at home, even if you hate it here.

“Come to the FIA Prize Giving with me, pretend it’s one of your fantasies,” Max says, you nod your head, already away in another world where only the gentle survive.

“Max? Am I going to die?” You ask out of the blue, well out of the blue for Max. He doesn’t know how to respond before you turn back into yourself. He stands up, watching you for a minute. You stayed out of your depression a minute longer than usual, a small win for him.

“Leave your poor sister alone,” Jos says, Max just glares at him. Jos is the man who made you like this and Max will never forgive himself for it.

“Y/n is coming with me to Monaco, for good. Since you don’t care about her, I will take care of her,” Max says, prepared to stand his ground.

“Whatever, if you want to tolerate her worthlessness, that’s up to you,” Jos waves his hand, one less failure in his home.

“Don’t call her that,” Max grits his teeth. He was going to wait a couple days, but perhaps it’s necessary to expedite it here.

“Yeah, yeah, she’s your problem now,” Jos walks away. Max returns to your bedroom, getting a suitcase from your closet. Only the essentials for now, the rest can be picked up tomorrow. He packs up as much as he can in an hour before somehow convincing you to go with him to his hotel. You just stare out the window of the car as he drives, clearly uncomfortable. Max gives you the bedroom and takes the pull out couch. He immediately dials Charles.

“Max? What happened?” Charles can hear the exhaustion in Max’s voice.

“I’m bringing Y/n back to Monaco with me, she’s basically being left to rot by Jos. She’s lonely and bitter, but swears she’s fine. Y/n gets lost in her mind on purpose, there’s this fantasy land that she saves the good parts -her romanticism- in her mind. I’m losing her,” Max chokes back a sob.

“Max, what do you mean, losing her?” Charles asks, more alert.

“She doesn’t eat, she’s depressed beyond imagination, doesn’t leave the house, spends the time she isn’t working remotely in her mind. This house, our father, makes her feel worthless. If I didn’t come tonight, she might’ve died. Charles, she asked me if she was going to die,” Max has your image ingrained in his memory, a little too thin and pale.

“I just texted Maman, she will come over and visit her for a little every day, make sure she eats,” Charles says, holding back his own tears. He remembers you fondly as the little girl with pig tails, always excited to spend time with her big brother.

You struggle with the move to Monaco, one you didn’t get a say in it, likely because you spend most of the year in your mind. You have come to grow more comfortable with the woman who visits you and uses food from your brother’s fridge to feed you.

“Y/n? Feel like talking today?” she gently asks, setting the food in front of you, like she does every day. You look up, and Pascale nearly cries, seeing you start to breaks through. Your blue eyes pierce hers.

the 1960s were also known as the swingin' sixties, and that name could not be more appropriate. while some other decades had moved towards comfort, the 1960's truly embraced it. some of the youth simply threw on a tunic and stepped into some pants and walked out the door! the popularity of television broadcasted different styles and trends across the country and the world. new materials like acrylics and polyesters were cheap to produce and to buy, and made fashion more accessible than it ever had been. the swingin' sixties brought the youth miniskirts, striped sweaters, the boxy "mod" look, and the bright, fun makeup associated with famous artists like twiggy. some older women tended towards the skirt + suit jacket combination worn by first lady jackie kennedy, but the comfort of the youth was appealing to all ages. beatnik fashion was also popular, with trim black trousers and dark sweaters. in 1964, hairspray was the most popular beauty product on the market – and it showed in the elaborate updos of the era. as the decade drew to a close, the "hippie" style was a popular look among the youth, with loose fitting tops and baggy pants, as well as maxi skirts. many of the hippies incorporated crafts into their fashion, with patchwork and beadings becoming popular.

this is only a very brief summary – the trends and influences of the 1960s are vast and complex, just as the 1960s themselves were. the social revolutions mirrored the revolutions in fashion, and i could write essays about it. but i am tired and i moved in today.

ohoho, an enabler. i take every opportunity i can to talk worldbuilding and canon divergence in-character so this is great actually. may your harvest be bountiful or something. thank you!

this is probably going to be incredibly long-winded and ramble-y, so bear with me. i love talking about this guy.

to start, i completely threw out the "expand the land" bit. that's goofy. not as bad as archie's thing, but still. and that's the main thing--rse-era maxie does NOT give you much to work with in terms of character.

however, the stuff that is there is... interesting i guess? and i started with that for the basis of the personality he has in both my fic and this blog. first off, he's the antagonist you have the most contact with once he's introduced. you have to battle him the first three times you meet him, before ever having to battle archie. second, he has some great lines during the climax--pointing out to the player his own hypocrisy when he criticizes archie has stuck with me since i was literally ten years old. he's convinced he can't actually do anything about groudon and kyogre fighting, but he also doesn't just give up.

and he and archie both do try to help in what way they can. they don't accomplish anything, but they do try.

and THEN there's the way he was portrayed in oras, which i also pulled from despite the fic and blog being based on emerald. in oras, he acknowledges his role as the antagonist in the player's story, and leans fully into it. he's pretty clearly having a good time throughout the story and seems genuinely fond of the player, acknowledging their talent and explaining his plan to them when you meet him at chimney. he even has a speech in seafloor cavern about how it's silly but he wanted the player to be there to witness his moment of triumph--and it's worth noting that archie does NOT have an equivalent moment. oras maxie is much friendlier and more open than people give him credit for in my opinion.

so let's get into the stuff i extrapolated from all that.

in the fic, he works as an archivist in mauville, which is how he has access to information on how to wake up groudon without causing her to rampage. he's very intelligent--my friend, the mod of @official-team-magma, jokes that he's high intelligence, low wisdom. he's affable and energetic but kind of hotheaded and impulsive. i struggled with untreated adhd for most of my life, so he does too because i need the representation. he's friendly with may to the point of trying to recruit her to team magma and being open with the fact that he and his team aren't a danger to her (she's from johto and used to team rocket). he's not comfortable being perceived as threatening, especially not to a young and anxious immigrant woman who's just trying to do what she thinks is right. he's still friends with shelly and speaks highly of her despite them being on opposite sides of a conflict now. he's a safe driver.

i said once on main that if maxie asher had a d&d class, he'd be a paladin. part of the backstory for hoenn in this fic/blog is that it was almost colonized by kanto back in the early 1800s, like johto and sinnoh were. the kantans landed in the eastern islands, and when they started aggressively pushing west, the native hoennic people (including the draconids, who do exist in this continuity) pushed back. a war broke out, and only ended once someone gained groudon's favor and partnered with her.

in the present, there's no war going on, at least not in the traditional sense. but maxie's definitely trying to gain groudon's partnership to grant himself legitimacy for what he wants to accomplish--the idea being that if he has her on his side, people will listen to him.

as for what he's doing with that favor, i guess we'll see!

Day 19 - Holy Toledo

We woke up and left Madrid and went to Toledo. Was known as a city where multiple cultures got along back in the day when there where very few if any like it. Jews, Christians and Muslim. So there was a cool combination of old architecture around. The church was really cool and speccy. Then headed off and drove for ages towards the coast. We went to Valencia which was the first coastal town. We had a swim but it wasn’t too exciting so then headed along the coast to Peñíscola. This was an awesome coastal town with a castle on the peninsula. We found a nice camp spot on the coastline over looking the water and relaxed.

Day 20 - Barcelona

We left Peniscola early to get to Barcelona. Along the drive we saw a few castles along the hills and the biggest warehouses I had ever seen. Huge porcelain production factory which was massive. There was also a incredible amount of orange trees all along that coastline. We arrived in Barcelona and had book a camp ground 40mins outside of the city by train. It was nice area as we could wash our clothes, shower and they also had a pool and day chairs which could be used. Pretty good little area that over looks the ocean. We headed into the CBD and we looked at Gaudi architecture works in the city which where pretty cool to see as it is very unique and fun. We saw the Sagrada Famila which was pretty epic as it has been under construction since the late 1800s and you could see the evolution of design and style on the building. We had some cheap sangria and then had a delicious pasta meal for dinner where you build your own dish by choosing the pasta type, sauce and add ons. Had pumpkin and caramelised onion ravioli in a beacon carbonara sauce. Thalz had Pesto gnocchi with pesto which was really nice but I choose better this time around. We walked around a bit and headed back to the camp site after walking along the waterfront.

Day 21

We left the car at the campgrounds parking area as it was pretty cheap and we could use there services when we came back. The next two night we book to be in the city. We headed in and got our accommodation. We headed to a gig a little bit out of the CBD which felt like a bit of a gamble but ended up being awesome. Was in a cool mansion at the top of the hill behind the Barcelona city. Was setup with a Bar, Africans food. A few artists trying to sell there work and then a cool three piece band who played some great music. Meet some people there who recommend another gig later that day and we headed off to go see that. The other on was a block party which had really good sound and the live band was amazing. There was a conductor leading them which was interesting to see as it was seven piece band jamming out. They had some guest artist come up and sing. One French girl who had amazing vocals. Then a Spanish rapper who brought great energy. Couldn’t understand any of it but it was wicked to see and hear. After this we got my first pizza on the trip which was sold by the slice and it was huge. Was delicious, probably better than any tas pizza I had eaten. Great base and simple yet delicious toppings. It was the start of daily pizza eating while in Barcelona form this joint. After the big day and steadily doing 20k steps a day we crashed.

Day 22

We found the best breakfast. Maxi Americano and Birchy Musli. Consisted off delicious yoghurt musli. The American was pancakes with maple syrup. 4 scrambled eggs. A heap of beacon. Then potatoes, sausages. Huge feed which was delicious. We headed into the city to go to a optical illusion museum called Paradox. This was pretty funny and had a great time in there which will be seen in the piccies. Afterwards we walked along the water front and checked out the city park which was really busy and a beautiful park. Got some more pizza slices again which where delicious. Then walked up to the top of the hill that over looks the port of Barcelona. There is the old garrison/ port defence at the top and has huge canons for ships and some anti air canons. Afterwards we watch the sunset over the city from a view on the hill and then headed back to the accommodation to get our last sleep in accommodation with a bathroom and shower again.

Day 23

We packed up and left the accomodation and left our bags there to explore the city some more. Had the American maxi again then walked around aimlessly. Grab a while pizza and headed back to the campground to grab the car. We had a swim and relax on the day bed. Then headed back into the city as we where boarding the night ferry off to Mallorca.

So, I came across this Pokemon post on here earlier today....

It's interesting how the quality of Pokemon's villains is in inverse proportion to the amount of dialogue they have.

Oh really now? 

Giovanni was a compelling villain because he was simple. He's a crime boss. He wants to treat Pokemon badly for financial gain. Simple, straightforward, and your conflict with him is primarily because he is directly in your way at different points of your journey.

Giovanni's Dialogue in Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow? 250 Words

Uh, Giovanni was not a very compelling character in the original Red/Blue/Yellow, and he gets a lot more dialogue in the remakes (FR/LG and Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee) as his character has gotten more fleshed out, so I’m not really sure this really holds up.

Maxie and Archie started the trend of ham-fisted philosophy and are almost charmingly stupid in how they don't understand the danger they're about to unleash until it's too late and you get to feel smug about it.

Maxie and Archie's dialogue in their respective games? About 800 words.

Again, Emerald and OR/AS are a thing to be factored in here as well.

Lusamine is about as "middle ground" as you can get, at least having a mostly personal story without any ham-fisted pretenses to idealism. She's just a controlling mother with empty nest syndrome, and that works. She'd be more interesting if the player was playing AS Lillie or Gladion, but whatever.

Lusamine's Dialogue in Sun/Moon? 1,300 words.

And what about Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon?

Lysandre is where shit gets obnoxious. He doesn't even know what he's trying to do. Nobody in Team Flare knows. Their motivations shift constantly almost trying to emulate Team Rocket and Team Magma simultaneously.

Lysandre's Dialogue in Pokemon X/Y? 1600 Words

I actually agree completely about Team Flare, but Lysandre knew exactly what he wanted to achieve - use the Ultimate Weapon to decrease the amount of human and Pokemon life in Kalos and possibly beyond so that all the “filthy parasites” who take, waste resources, and make the world uglier are erradicated and only the chosen true elite are spared so that they can set up the new order over an “eternally beautiful” world. It’s insane but pretty clear.

Ghetsis is arguably one of the worst, because most of what he says ends up being a complete and total lie and he's just a Saturday Morning Cartoon villain because Game Freak was afraid players might actually start questioning the ethics of Pokemon battling.

Ghetsis' Dialogue in Pokemon Black/White? 1800 Words

But...that was the whole point? That Ghetsis was a narcissistic megalomaniac and a charlatan who used a seemingly just cause such as examining the ethics of Pokemon battling and making corrections if need be in order to consolidate power for himself and disarm the masses so that none would stand in the way of him propping up a new regime over the world? Other members of Team Plasma weren’t lying when they claimed to be championing the freedom and well-being of Pokemon and standing against the whole Pokemon trainer system, but Ghetsis was knowingly using, decieving and exploiting those people and their beliefs through a ruse of believing in the same ideals as them. And that is scarily realistic, as so many instances of similar evil in modern politics has shown us.

Cyrus is the single most Black and White, evil for evil's sake villain in the entire series. He's the kind of character people imagine Giovanni to be because the mafia's pursuit of money and riches apparently isn't noble and obtuse enough to be considered a motivation. Cyrus waxes poetic about the world being terrible, but everything he says just flat out isn't true and not even in the misguided way like Maxie or Archie. He's just out of his mind being cruel for cruelty's sake.

Cyrus' Dialogue in Pokemon Platinum? 1900 Words

OK, this person has got ZERO reading comprehension if they came out with this blatantly false take. Cyrus waxes poetic about the world being in a state of decay and being made terrible because of human nature, or “incomplete spirit” of “the weak, faulty human heart” as he calls it. He seeks to destroy the existing world in order to do a total purge and reset button/system restore on all of reality, envisioning his new world to be a superior version of the old one he tore down in order to bring it into being - a world without spirit holding back any living being of living and functioning to their fullest potential. Yes, the man is out of his mind, but he thinks that by breaking the universe as is, he can fix it. And he is far from the cruelest of Pokemon villains, nor is any cruelty in his actions the point. In Platinum, US/UM, and especially in Pokemon Masters, Cyrus is a deep, properly motivated character far beyond what Giovanni in the original Gen 1 games was.

N is even worse because he waxes poetic about his ideals regarding ethics in Pokemon Battling, but it's an ideological dead end because the game never once challenges the player to consider what he's saying and contrives a reason for all his goals to fail, and his ideals are built off a faulty premise that Game Freak only entertains out of the illusion of a deeper story that ultimately reassures the player that they're already doing the right thing. Pulling the same con they did with Ghetsis but with even more dialogue and more interruptions and more wasting the player's time on a premise that you were never expected to take seriously. Game only wrote N's story because they were salty about PETA trolling for attention.

N's Dialogue in Pokemon Black and White? 2700 Words, oh my god somebody get a ballgag for this kid!

And here’s the final coup d’grace of bullshit. N dislikes Pokemon Battling and seeing his friends get hurt, but also understands that it’s in a Pokemon’s nature to want to fight, so he allows it when he feels it necessary or unavoidable. What he truly hates is the system of Pokemon training and how humans exploit Pokemon for research, sport, entertainment, menial labor, keeping them as pets or in Safari Zone zoos, etc. He hates Poke’ Balls, which is why he never uses them to catch any Pokemon himself - his team is different each time he’s battled. And the thing is? In B2W2, he has not changed this view. He and the remnants of Team Plasma who follow him now are still striving to make a world where Poke’ Balls and such things are not needed, and Pokemon can co-exist alongside humans without any exploitation or abuse from humans. What he’s learned is that he shouldn’t instinctively reject views and ideas about Pokemon that differ from his own, and should not try to force everyone else into accepting his views and ideals as the One And Only Truth. Gen 5 did have a deeper story that gave players plenty to think about, but this yahoo is among the whingy, pretentious lot who just didn’t get it.

Starting in a few weeks, I’m going to begin Season 2 of my Big Brother Sims challenge for Sims 4. I’m going to be running this as a ‘filler’ while I get things set up for the Codex Files.

I need your sims to make it happen. If you’d like to submit a sim to participate, here are some things to know:

All sims must be a presenting human. (No anthro sims, but alien sims are fine as long as they have a human disguise. Yes, merfolk are allowed, etc, etc.)

Big Brother has had a long and time-honoured tradition of diversity in their contestants. I firmly intend to uphold this. This means I will be looking for eight sims that will present me with the widest spectrum of humanity, from ethnicity, age, gender (or lack thereof), sexual orientation (or lack thereof), personality (or lack thereof), traits, etc. I will be hand-picking my eight contestants on this basis. The more interesting and different from the rest of the pack you make your sim, the more likely I am to select them.

I own all EA/Maxis packs for Sims 4 ( except for that stupid pet stuff one), so knock yourself out with game content. I would prefer minimal CC (as that saves my lazy butt from needing to go around and grab it all).

Just leaving a small project here  I was a little annoyed when I wanted to build a hotel yesterday in island living style and then found out we have a shower, bathtub and a sink but not a god damn toilet why EA? 😭 maybe it’s not that perfect but now it’s fitting the rest I actually used parts of the tubs texture to make it fit better 😂

23. What’s the story idea you’ve had in your head for the longest?

fanfic: I have had an idea for a series in my head called “The Grand Tour” for...hmm maybe 3 years? (for cabin pressure hehe) i thought the title was really really clever bc it has a double meaning. the “Grand Tour” being something that rich europeans did in the 1700s and 1800s, where they gallivanted around areas of antiquity as a tradition, and a “tour” in modern aviation being a series of usually short-haul flights conducted by the same crew in the same airplane (or something like that)

but i literally haven’t said what it’s going to be about ahah it’s going to feature the triad (i mean douglas, martin, and theresa) just tripping their way around the wonders of the world. it’s supposed to be a series of funny oneshots but mostly it’s incredibly self-indulgent bc i love traveling and researching different places :)

i’m actually in the process of writing it (I’ve got 1 done so far) so it’ll be on ao3 with all my other stuff lol

original writing: I’ve had a story about a different trio in my head for 2 years: it was going to be an epistolary novel written in text messages and handwritten notes among two brothers and their friend. it was going to be called There’s Another, (Not) a Sister and it was supposed to follow them over the course of four years. may or may not have been based on true events, haha.

20. Tell us the meta about your writing that you really want to ramble to people about (symbolism you’ve included, character or relationship development that you love, hidden references, callbacks or clues for future scenes?)

fanfic: so the prospect of douglas and theresa being absolute pals has lived in my head rent free for...well, the first fanfic I have regarding them was written back in 2016, so I’ve had 4 years to think about exactly why they do live in my head rent free. I mean, other than extreme self-indulgence, but let’s just take that as a given.

bear with me here because i could be INCREDIBLY wrong, as i expect to be incredibly wrong about a lot of things: in my head, at least, douglas and theresa share in common one brain cell a fondness for martin. by extension, it wouldn’t be a stretch to assume they would have other things in common, since being fond of martin is not totally universal. because let’s face it, the ordinary weakling would find martin very off-putting (especially in the first couple of episodes, my god, he’s actually pretty awful. but don’t tell 2016 Em that just yet, let them simmer in it for a while just for the experience.) but what would a princess of a politically insignificant microstate and a former Air England “Not-a-perfect-life-perhaps-after-all-I’m-sitting-next-to-you” pilot have in common? this is the point where speculation goes into the muddle of Em’s brain rot

i don’t believe martin ever had the kind of power that douglas or theresa had. number one, he’s a commoner (rules out equivalence with theresa’s brand of power, which relies heavily on her inherited wealth, titles, and status as the upper-crust of Europe). number two, he’s in no large airline with any opportunity for upward movement and rank-building within (i mean that changes but in my head this triad lives in a limbo period between vaduz and yverdon-les-bains do you see why this is so self indulgent now?) and to top that off martin has no inherent charisma or anything of the sort, ruling out equivalence with douglas’ brand of power, which relies heavily on the gift of gab, smooth talking, or quick fixes. but the ultimate linking point is that douglas and theresa have both lost their power, or at least the efficacy of it. sure, douglas is still a smooth-talker and he gets mjn out of all these tight scrapes, but he’s aging out of the system and is nowhere near where he once was. sure, theresa still has some power as a political figure, especially as maxie won’t come of age for a while, but come on. liechtenstein?

douglas and theresa have that kind of “hey we’ve been screwed up; we’re still a little screwed up. let’s chill” vibe in a way martin doesn’t, and that’s because they both, at least at one point, were in possession of some consequential power that they no longer have.

tl;dr. douglas and theresa know what it is like to have power, and to have lost it, or at least any material benefits of having it. maybe that provides an integral clue into why they would understand each other—and why they could find a friend in each other. also i am shiny and dumb but i will continue to think this way bc. come on. they’re buddies

Nance turned to the Programmer, “Sir, if you could stand here, and everyone else form a V shape leading up to him.”

Akira opened his mouth to argue with her, but Jak stepped in. “She’s right. Do as she says.” He turned to Nance, “You have 5 minutes to get your photo, and not a second more.” Nance nodded and started grabbing people by the shoulders and forcibly placing them where she wanted them. She did not touch Akira.

Akira looked unhappy but fell into line next to Viv. A girl with rainbow-colored hair, who Viv would later find out was named Ulie, was eyeing the building while Nance finished prodding people into place at the other end of the line. “I just hope when we get up there, we find some planters on the other side of that balcony with some good, treated soil so we can grow food to eat,” Ulie said.

“I just hope whatever killed the last group of colonists doesn’t eat us while we’re standing here taking this damn picture,” said Akira.
