The Joy Of The Lord
What is our source of joy? We read about it, and we talk and sing about it. The Bible tells us the joy of the Lord is our strength. We also find joy listed as one of the Fruit of the Spirit. The night Mary gave birth to Jesus, angels visited shepherds as they kept watch over their flocks. They came announcing the Lord's birth and revealed the source of our joy. (The angel) said. "I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! Luke 2:10  After talking to Herod, the wise men continued their journey to see the newborn King of the Jews. Filled with joy, they continued to follow the star. When they saw the star, they were filled with joy! They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Matthew 2:10-11 Jesus not only brought joy to the world but to His Father as well. We can read about this at the Lord's baptism and at the top of the Mount of Transfiguration. - After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him.  And a voice from heaven said, "This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy." Matthew 3:16-17 - But even as he spoke, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy. Listen to him." Matthew 17:5
Joy at the Tomb of Jesus
We can't forget about the joy the women experienced at the empty tomb of Jesus. An angel declared to them that our Lord had risen. The women ran quickly from the tomb. They were very frightened but also filled with great joy, and they rushed to give the disciples the angel's message. Matthew 28:8 The Lord Jesus made this same joy available to us today. At the beginning of 1 John, we can read about how to experience the full and complete joy of the Lord.    We are writing these things so that you may fully share our joy. 1 John 1:4  You can sense John's joy because, in this chapter's beginning verses, he made three proclamations. - We proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, v.1 - Now we testify and proclaim to you that he is the one who is eternal life. v.2 - We proclaim to you what we ourselves have actually seen and heard. v.3 Then, in verse 5, John made a declaration. This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all.1 John 1:5 So, John declared that God is light. Why did the apostle go from talking about life to the subject of light? I think we'll see why in verse 7. But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:7
Experiencing Complete Joy In The Lord
In verse 9, John tied the qualities of the Christian life together: fellowship, life, light, and forgiveness of sin. Look what he said.  If we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. 1 John 1:9
Tumblr media
When we look back to verse 4, John told us these things so we could experience complete joy in the Lord. Not to hoard it for ourselves, though, but to share it. In other words, we must take the joy the Lord gives us outside of ourselves. Too many Christians exhibit anything but joy, which turns non-Christians off. Years ago, we used to do a children's song with puppets called J-O-Y. The words went like this: J is for Jesus, O is for others, Y is for you. What a great pattern for our lives. During the Christmas season, and for that matter, any season, we can enjoy the joy of the Lord. Why? Because it doesn't depend on the time of year or the circumstances around us. The Lord fills us from the inside out with His joy. Our circumstances shouldn't change us. We should change them. And we can because of another verse John gave us later in this epistle. But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world. 1 John 4:4 Our original question was, "What is our source of joy?" It started when the angels lit up the sky and told the shepherds, "I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people.
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas, and remember, because of the birth of Christ, your joy can be complete. In fact, there is only one type of joy. According to the Word, it only comes as "great joy." Lord, help us to complete our joy by putting Jesus first, others second, and ourselves last. The liars among us

I’ve been researching scripture more and more now a days, both for my personal growth and my projects I’m working on, and todays another day I take a bit of wisdom to heart. Life is tough. Like seriously tough. And I think that I, like so many people, are so sick and tired of that. We want change so bad because we are afraid of what will happen. But I think that everyone is afraid of something happening, something that will destroy their world. And I need to remember that love does not destroy the enemy; it restores the community, eliminating the fear of the other within me and the fear of me within the other, and allows us to work together to build a better future for everyone. So I will try harder. I need to try harder. We need more to be done. We need more love in the world and less fear. #religiousstudies #religion #religious #religiouslife #1john418 #1john4 #1john #bibleverse #bible #bibleverses #biblestudy #verseoftheday #verse https://www.instagram.com/p/CjJGtchgyBr/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

by H.B. Charles Jr | John 20:30-31 is the purpose statement of John’s Gospel: “Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” The Epistle of John is the companion to the Gospel of John. 1 John 5:13 says, “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life.” The Gospel of John and the Epistle of 1 John are...

Born Into The Family Of God
Tumblr media
Jesus mentioned to Nicodemus that he must be born again. What does that mean? It means a person is born into the family of God. What does it look like? John told us in his first epistle. So now we can tell who are children of God and who are children of the devil. Anyone who does not live righteously and does not love other believers does not belong to God. 1 John 3:10 That verse summarizes the first three chapters of first John. The apostle encouraged us to live righteous lives which we can accomplish because of Jesus. I am writing to you who are God’s children because your sins have been forgiven through Jesus. 1 John 2:12 So John clarified that he directed this epistle to the children of God, hence those born into the family of God. He referred to those who have accepted what Jesus did for them on the cross. According to John’s writings, being born into the family of God must go further than just saying a prayer. It means making a commitment as well as following through with it. In our society today many lack an understanding of what a commitment really means. Therefore one can easily walk away from a commitment as if they had never made one in the first place. The marriage commitment serves as a good example. In front of witnesses, a couple vows or commits their union for life. But, either one of them knows they can end it anytime they want. God views commitments as binding, especially when we make them to Him. So keeping the commitment we make to the Lord upon receiving Christ as our Savior becomes very important.
A Warning Against Deception
Thus John explained the difference between the children of God and the children of the devil. He began by warning us to guard ourselves against deception. Dear children, don’t let anyone deceive you about this: When people do what is right, it shows that they are righteous, even as Christ is righteous. 1 John 3:7 Satan’s deceptions have become an acceptable norm in society, even to some in the church. So instead of using God’s Word as the standard for righteousness, they define it for themselves. Righteousness  begins and ends with Jesus. John continued by stating that our actions define if our lives revolve around Christ. But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil. 1 John 3:8 Someone coined the phrase, “We are sinners saved by grace.”  It has one problem though, that phrase is nowhere in scripture.  John correctly said we are God’s children. Of course, we do sin along the way, sometimes intentionally and other times not. But the devil will try to convince us that all is fine even when living a life of sin. John told us differently. Those who have been born into the family of God do not make a practice of sinning, because God’s life is in them. So they can’t keep on sinning, because they are children of God. 1 John 3:9 The apostle also made a similar statement earlier in this chapter. Therefore we should take this warning about consistently and willfully sinning very seriously. Anyone who continues to live in him will not sin. But anyone who keeps on sinning does not know him or understand who he is. 1 John 3:6
Benefits of Those Born into the Family of God
Tumblr media
We’ve talked about what it means when born into the family of God and what that looks like. But let’s not forget to also mention the benefits that accompany it. God has made promises to us in His Word while we are living on this earth. Some people, however, feel that He has let them down and therefore no longer want anything to do with Him. We must understand that at creation the Lord established certain laws. The law of gravity is one of the most basic ones. Another one is that reproduction happens even when couples live in sin. Something else affecting our lives came when God cursed the ground because of Adam and Eve’s disobedient sin. A relationship with the Lord though can only start while living in this life. So through all the temptations of the enemy and the influences of sinful men, don’t waver in your faith. When facing the results of the curse including sicknesses we must endure to the end. God never promised us an easy life here but He did promise us eternal life. When committing ourselves to Him we experience a new birth, for it’s then we are born into the family of God. See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him. 1 John 3:1
Trust God No Matter What
Tumblr media
Sure, God does miracles and He also promised to meet our every need. So trust Him through your every situation no matter what. Remember the best is yet to come. Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is. 1 John 3:2 You are not a sinner saved by grace. You were a sinner but now you’re saved by grace. And John said as children of God to eagerly live expecting to be like Jesus. And all who have this eager expectation will keep themselves pure, just as he is pure. 1 John 3:3 Lord, I am glad I am born into the family of God. I eagerly await the arrival of Jesus. Help me to stay pure until that day.
