GOOD NEWS: Alabama’s new congressional map now includes two Black-opportunity districts.
Previously, Alabama’s congressional map was struck down for violating the Voting Rights Act diluting the voting power of Black Alabamians. Despite Black Alabamians making up 27% of the state's population, only one of the state's seven congressional seats regularly went to a candidate preferred by Black voters.

Jesus said:
‘I tell you most solemnly, anyone who does not enter the sheepfold through the gate, but gets in some other way is a thief and a brigand. The one who enters through the gate is the shepherd of the flock; the gatekeeper lets him in, the sheep hear his voice, one by one he calls his own sheep and leads them out. When he has brought out his flock, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow because they know his voice. They never follow a stranger but run away from him: they do not recognise the voice of strangers.’
Jesus told them this parable but they failed to understand what he meant by telling it to them.
So Jesus spoke to them again:
‘I tell you most solemnly, I am the gate of the sheepfold. All others who have come are thieves and brigands; but the sheep took no notice of them. I am the gate. Anyone who enters through me will be safe: he will go freely in and out and be sure of finding pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have it to the full.’

Jumbo, the Dutch supermarket chain, introduced slow checkouts when it discovered some people enjoy chatting while paying for their goods.

The added personal touch is helping many people, especially the elderly, deal with loneliness. The move has proven so successful that Jumbo has installed the slow checkouts in 200 stores. With the kletskassas or 'chat cash registers', Jumbo wants to contribute to signaling and reducing loneliness, and invite people for a chat in an accessible way.
“Many people, especially the elderly, sometimes feel lonely. As a family business and supermarket chain, we are at the heart of society. Our stores are an important meeting place for many people and we want to play a role in identifying and reducing loneliness. We do this in various ways, including our Kletskassa’s” says Colette Cloosterman-van Eerd, CCO of Jumbo. Hiya!
I'm home! Mom already cleaned up everything when she got here, saving me from more cleaning. The broken windows are boarded up and the internet isn't working, but mobile data is working much better than anything I had access to the past months. Both the windows and internet should be able to get fixed this week.
Unfortunately, my gym is in shambles. It seems inevitable to shut it down, which would be a huge loss. I might be able to retrieve some of the equipment and sell that to make up for it a little bit. It hurts to think about it.
This will be a busy week sorting out everything. I should be able to get back on track and post more frequently from next week onwards. In the meantime, I am posting remaining media from the refuge twice a week in my free members area, to be found under 'join' (or 'feed' when logged in) on my website, linked in my bio.

Two of the disciples of Jesus were on their way to a village called Emmaus, seven miles from Jerusalem, and they were talking together about all that had happened. Now as they talked this over, Jesus himself came up and walked by their side; but something prevented them from recognising him. He said to them, ‘What matters are you discussing as you walk along?’ They stopped short, their faces downcast.
Then one of them, called Cleopas, answered him, ‘You must be the only person staying in Jerusalem who does not know the things that have been happening there these last few days.’ ‘What things?’ he asked. ‘All about Jesus of Nazareth’ they answered ‘who proved he was a great prophet by the things he said and did in the sight of God and of the whole people; and how our chief priests and our leaders handed him over to be sentenced to death, and had him crucified. Our own hope had been that he would be the one to set Israel free. And this is not all: two whole days have gone by since it all happened; and some women from our group have astounded us: they went to the tomb in the early morning, and when they did not find the body, they came back to tell us they had seen a vision of angels who declared he was alive. Some of our friends went to the tomb and found everything exactly as the women had reported, but of him they saw nothing.’
Then he said to them, ‘You foolish men! So slow to believe the full message of the prophets! Was it not ordained that the Christ should suffer and so enter into his glory?’ Then, starting with Moses and going through all the prophets, he explained to them the passages throughout the scriptures that were about himself.
When they drew near to the village to which they were going, he made as if to go on; but they pressed him to stay with them. ‘It is nearly evening’ they said ‘and the day is almost over.’ So he went in to stay with them. Now while he was with them at table, he took the bread and said the blessing; then he broke it and handed it to them. And their eyes were opened and they recognised him; but he had vanished from their sight. Then they said to each other, ‘Did not our hearts burn within us as he talked to us on the road and explained the scriptures to us?’
They set out that instant and returned to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven assembled together with their companions, who said to them, ‘Yes, it is true. The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.’ Then they told their story of what had happened on the road and how they had recognised him at the breaking of bread.
[Luke 24:13-35]

Winning means a sustainable life on this planet!
This decision affirms the value of nature, and protects communities and their resources for future generations. Last year, petroleum giant Shell announced that it would start searching for oil and gas reserves off the nation’s eastern coast. The government had granted the company exploration rights in 2014, renewing them in 2021. Under the ruling, Shell could conduct underwater explosions to locate deep-sea oil and gas reserves. But the plans met with fierce opposition on the ground, and activists took the matter to court. The Eastern Cape high court revoked Shell’s exploration rights, ruling that they were granted illegally. Sustaining the Wild Coast - one of the organisations that took the case to court - described the victory as “for the good of everyone.” Source: Euro News Green (link in bio) #environment #progress #goodnews https://www.instagram.com/p/CiaM-HWrw10/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Romance Author Nora Roberts Donates $50K To Library Defunded Over LBGTQ Books
Award-winning author Nora Roberts donates $50-thousand to help a Michigan library stay open after it was defunded for carrying LGBTQ+ friendly books. The Patmos Library in Jamestown, Michigan, has been under threat from a group of local citizens upset that the library carries LGBTQ+ books and graphic novels. Just this year, the library’s director resigned after being harassed online and then the interim director also resigned for similar reasons. The final straw was when the town voted on August 2nd to revoke the library’s funding, forcing it to close.
As word got out of the library’s closing, a pair of crowdfunding efforts got underway and donations started pouring in from book loving supporters from around the world. The crowdfunds have managed to raise over $250-thousand so far with the largest donation to the effort coming from internationally recognized romance novelist Nora Roberts, who donated $50-thousand to the cause. The author commented that she would have liked to have given more, but “50k is the limit GoFundMe allows for donations,” then she added, “If you’re short of your goal, please contact me. I’ll make up the rest.”
President of the Patmos Library Board, Larry Walton, expressed gratitude for the gifts from Roberts and others and says the money will allow them to continue operating, but isn’t a replacement for funding from the town. They plan to use a small portion of the money to fund a campaign to educate the community on the critical role the library plays. In the meantime, the library has moved some of the “offensive” books behind the circulation desk, but are committed to keeping the books available.
