Stargate rewatch: 1x12 Fire and Water
Tumblr media
This episode doesn’t count as a Daniel death, but it does count as a Daniel fake out death, which is also pretty prevalent!
It’s kind of amusing comparing everyone being absolutely destroyed over Daniel’s apparent death here, to the later seasons where everyone shrugs and just assumes he’ll turn up somehow.
By this time the US Airforce was consulting in the show, and they sent along actual officers to conduct the funeral ceremony.
Tumblr media
Do non-military personnel get military funerals?
“Daniel Jackson made this place happen. As a member of SG-1, he was our voice, our conscience. He was a very courageous man…he was a good man. For those of us lucky enough to have known him, he was also a friend.” 😭
Teal’c being handed the flag as the closest thing to a next of kin is very sweet.
“We commend Daniel Jackson’s spirit to the universe he opened up for us.” 😭 😭
Tumblr media
Another Katharyn Powers episode, this is actually one of my favourites.
Where do we think they send the wreath? I would assume the planet where he died, but I suppose it could be Abydos if the gate is buried in such a way that they’re able to establish a wormhole.
Is this standard SGC funeral procedure? We don’t see them send a wreath for Janet even though she dies offworld, but I actually really love the concept.
Nice continuity on Jack’s house from CotG, he walks in carrying the biggest bowl of vegetables I’ve ever seen.
Tumblr media
It’s interesting that Jack recounts the story of Sha’re kissing Daniel on Abydos rather than an anecdote from the first mission (getting dragged by the mastadge comes to mind) or from his time on SG-1 - perhaps he wanted to share an amusing memory from a time Daniel was truly happy, but also perhaps Sha’re isn’t far from Jack’s mind, because if Daniel’s gone, who else is going to remember/search for her?
Or maybe it’s also that Jack doesn’t really believe that Daniel really is gone - it almost feels like he’s ribbing a friend for a PDA with his wife like he’s there and not just retelling a story.
A cute outfit for Sam! Teal’c too.
Tumblr media
Jack smashing a car window and contemplating retirement because of Daniel’s death 🥺
We see Jack start to backslide into grief like he did after Charlie which is a neat parallel - Daniel was part of the reason why Jack was able to heal from his son’s death, and with Daniel gone he regresses.
Great performance by RDA this episode.
In the false memory and the later flashback, Daniel is wearing his helmet - guess we aren’t quite done with them yet!
In the debrief Jack also says that Daniel cried out “Colonel, help me,” but in the triggered memory he says “Jack, help.” Perhaps a continuity error, but also perhaps the conditioned response altering/escalating. The beer reminds Jack of the bubbles in Nem’s lab, triggering the vision of Daniel’s in order to distract him - the more emotionally inflicting the memory, the less likely Jack is to question its authenticity.
But it actually has the opposite effect - Nem underestimated the bond between the team, as they cannot accept that Daniel is dead.
Tumblr media
Daniel’s missing his glasses, so gets up real close to the cuneiform despite it being quite large.
I realise they had to go with the illogical everyone speaks English because this is a tv show, but I do enjoy when there is a language barrier or attempt to explain the lack of one - like the Nox, Nem’s race are advanced enough to learn English after short exposure.
It’s implied the Nox speaking English were an extension of their telepathic abilities, here Nem makes Daniel translate a Babylonian legal system to learn his language, which is neat.
Tumblr media
Kind of swish apartment Daniel has! I’ve read some commentary over on reddit surmising that as an expert civilian contractor he’d actually be on a pretty good salary.
Also that’s a lot of stuff for someone who in the film it’s said that everything he had in the world was in two bags. He probably had stuff in storage inherited from his parents that he got out once he started getting that sweet government money.
“I’ll never get paid” is a nice movie callback.
Daniel has what looks like a painting of Bassin d’Apollon (Apollo’s Basin) at Versailles. The fountain depicts Apollo rising from the sea in a horse-drawn chariot. Apollo is of course the Greek god of light/the sun, keeping in the Fire and Water theme for this episode. Daniel will also rise from the sea at the end of the episode.
Tumblr media
Jack is looking at the photo of Daniel in Egypt - this will later end up on the desk in Daniel’s lab at the SGC, together with the photo of Sha’re (which we haven’t seen yet).
The excerpt Sam reads from Daniel’s journal (“Sha’re is gone”) is in the middle of some random notes on Egyptian games. Obviously this show was made before it was expected that fans would pause and take screenshots, but I also kind of like the idea that Daniel writes in a stream of consciousness way, recording his thoughts even when they stray from something he’s working on to the personal.
Tumblr media
I love the idea of Teal’c and Daniel having game nights.
“I lost my wife - my mate - because of the Goa’uld. They took her from me and I despise them for that.” This episode is probably the most Sha’re has been mentioned so far - between this and Thor’s Hammer I wonder if it was a Katharyn Powers choice or just that it fit into these particular stories.
Why does Nem believe so strongly that Daniel knows what fate Omoroca? Just because Daniel can read cuneiform doesn’t mean he knows all of Babylonian history.
But his distrust of Daniel being rooted in his belief that Earth is still under Goa’uld control because of Teal’c is neatly done.
“It is the fate of humans - that Omoroca could not prevent.” I like that even though Nem has learned English his speech is still a bit stilted. This is a really well crafted episode, imo.
Tumblr media
Nem is played by Gerard Plunkett aka Tuplo from The Broca Divide. He does well acting through the prosthetics.
“I don’t have four thousand years. Maybe you can afford to search all that time but I can’t.” It’s interesting how often Daniel has a mirror character - in Torment of Tantalus it was Ernest, in this episode it’s Nem, but while the former was Daniel learning not to be so consumed by his thirst for knowledge that he’s blind to what really matters, here it’s the reinforcement of his convictions to risk his life if necessary to achieve his goals. They’re almost contradictory lessons, but not quite, because of the differing circumstances.
Here Nem is a cautionary tale - Daniel must be active in his search for Sha’re or he’ll end up like Nem, who out of fear and passivity waited for news of his mate’s death rather than trying to find her himself.
Tumblr media
This episode was directed by Allan Eastman, his only Stargate effort. But he knew what’s what!
There’s good continuity on Daniel’s growing stubble too.
Eastman would however go on to direct several episodes of Andromeda, including the one guest starring Michael Shanks and Christopher Judge.
Dr Mackenzie appears for the first time since autopsying the dead Jaffa in CotG.
We get three versions of the false memory - Sam’s was “help, help” while Teal’c’s is a drawn out cry of agony - perhaps because Teal’c has seen so many more brutal things his memory needed to be more visceral to trigger the same reaction.
There is nothing Daniel loves more than drawing in the sand.
Tumblr media
“And in time Daniel, you will find what fate Sha’re.” A not so pleasant glimpse into Daniel’s future there.
It’s too bad we never see Nem again, not even when the show gets into other memory searching/creating technology.
Tumblr media
“Tell us about it over sushi.” You can tell this was an RDA lib because he, Shanks, and Tapping almost break character.

i just . i don’t get it
#like no ship has baffled me more than z*tara#it's so popular and it's not my cup of tea and i get the appeal but it is just . so Not It#the sun and the moon...... originally were never lovers#in a tale literally as old as time they were SIBLINGS#the ancient greeks made them SIBLINGS for a reason#sun/moon and fire/water aren't yin and yang either??#in the last 3 episodes of book 1 they explicitly said that yin and yang were sky and ocean??#moon and ocean??#like that's why the koi fish were . IN THE NORTHERN WATER TRIBE#k*tara and z*ko never showed that they had feelings for one another either??#k*tara used 99% of her physical affection on aang#and z*ko spent his time missing mai?? or fighting with her but i mean#the line 'that's rough buddy' literally came after him telling sokka that mai was the only part of the FN that was hard to leave#not to mention i think k*tara . would not like to live in the FN and that seems to be the only available narrative#bc no one ever seems to suggest that z*ko abdicate the thrown and joins katara in the SWT#him being romantically involved with her also undermines the importance of his redemption arc#bc in 1x12 or so when we learn about ozai scarring z*ko we see that despite his temper and conquest for the avatar#his crew was more important#he has always cared for people#that's LITERALLY why he was banished to begin with#for CARING#so him taking the lightning for k*tara . isn't a closing arc for his redemption#it undermines it bc he would have done that in season 1#the fact that he did it for her and would have then done it for any member of the gaang#shows that he is now someone who sacrifices himself even for those he once considered LESS THAN#literally called a PEASANT and hunted down#someone he grew up thinking was the enemy#that's the real close to his villain to hero arc??#and the idea that aang getting katara at the end of the series and after the war was a prize like . is zuko getting katara after he saved#her even more of that? guy turns good for girl then gets the girl??

An Incomplete List of Bloom's Flaws
AKA S1-3 Bloom is a Well-Rounded Character Damn it!
Short version: She's short-tempered, impulsive, impatient, gullible, naive, immature, clumsy, terrible at both lying and keeping secrets, loyal to a fault, "a bit sensitive", stubborn, incredibly insecure, and interpersonal conflict avoidant to an extreme degree
Explanations and examples for each point under the cut:
Short-tempered: I feel like this one doesn't even really need an explantion since "angry baby" seems to pretty much be the fandom consensus on early Bloom. She's quick to anger and her anger almost always clouds her judgement. This sometimes works in her favor in the case of her super sayan moments, but mishaps like her emptying that vase over Riven's head in 1x08 are equally common
Impulsive: Attacking Diaspro before properly examining the situation or consulting literally anyone, challenging a fucking OGRE before she even knew she had powers(seriously her dumbassery would have gotten her killed right in the pilot if she hadn't turned out to be a fairy), following that same ogre into a back alley where a bunch of witches could attack her instead of just. Warning her friends, and going after the Trix alone in 2x17. The last point being so dumb that even the captain of the Bloom fan club AKA Stella chewed her out for it
Not to mention the smaller comedic moments that are basically just: "don't touch the water" *Bloom touches the water*, or that time she lit her bed on fire in the name of fashion
Impatient: This one doesn't play as much of a role as some of the others but it's still very much there. It's mainly in the little things like her wanting to use magic to prepare food, or her getting upset when she doesn't immediately master a spell even though her teacher and her friends tell her it's okay(tho the latter is also partially a result of her insecurity)
Gullible and naive: Putting these two together since they often go hand in hand. It's ridiculously easy for villains to trick and/or manipulate her. This is a plot point during several episodes of s1, her s2 storyline with Avalon relies on it, and even Valtor managed to use this to delay his defeat for a few more episodes in s3. Even outside of the villains you have Mitzi using it to play a prank on her in 2x16
Clumsy: tbh I mostly just listed this for the Tangled refference. She is absolutely shown to be a klutz time and time again(3x07 being the episode that puts the most focus on it) but that's kinda the standard flaw for female leads, and outside of maybe contributing to her insecurity it doesn't really affect her character. It's mostly just funny
Terrible at both lying and keeping secrets: It's established as early as the second episode that this girl Can Not Lie. Unfortunately the show didn't do nearly as much with it as it could've. Not that the trait ever goes away(see her pitifull attempt at explaining why they're on Eraklyon in 3x09), but it certainly could have been used more for both drama and comedy if the only the writers had put her in more situations where she's forced to lie
It could be considered a major plot point in s2 as keeping the location of the codex at Alfea a secret does weigh heavily on her and she does crack and reveal that she knows this to Avalon, but s2's weird pacing and lack of structure makes it so that this is really easy to miss if you aren't over analyzing the girl
Loyal to a fault: One of those flaws that doubles as a strength. It's good that she's so loyal to her loved ones, but it's also easy to take advantage of. The most obvious case being the ring or Stella's life dillema of 1x05, but it's also evident in her refusal to even consider Flora to be in the wrong in 1x11, or how Stella can so quickly guilt her into helping her in 1x12
"A bit sensitive": Actual canon quote from Bloom about her storming off after Stella's jabs in 1x09. It's super easy to push her buttons and get her upset. It kinda ties back into her temper, and is probably a big part of why she had at least one bully back in Gardenia
Stubborn: When has this girl ever just chilled out or let anything go, really? Even for practice assignments she will straight up pass out before calling it quits(2x07 and 3x18), and she'll risk her life on a deadly dragon island in an attempt to get stronger and defeat the villain rather than doing something healthy like idk grieving with her friends
Insecure: A lot of her personal journey revolves around this, especially in season 1. She doesn't believe she's good enough for Alfea, or for Sky, especially after she finds out he's a prince. She's so hard on herself for every little mistake she makes, and doubts her ability to do what's expected of her at every turn. Among many other things it's what eventually causes her to isolate herself from her friends and leave herself vulnerable in s1, and partially why she doesn't question the whole Sky and Diaspro mess in s3
Interpersonal conflict avoidant: I mean "Bloom leaves the country to avoid dealing with her problems" is already a running joke in this fandom there's not a lot I can add to that

which "h2o: just add water" episodes centered each character? a quantitative analysis
hello, 2021 h2o enjoyers! lately, i've been thinking about how many h2o episodes focus on a specific mermaid. naturally, i wondered—which main mermaid (cleo, rikki, emma, and bella) has the most episodes dedicated to their character arc? and what percent of the show focuses on that character? so i wrote up this quantitative analysis and... yeah.
caveats:
-there are many h2o episodes that don’t center any specific character, which is why these episodes are not included on the list.
-there are some episodes that focus a lot on on lewis, charlotte, will, et cetera. however, i decided to only compile episode lists for the four main mermaids.
-there’s no perfect methodology for this type of analysis. some episodes that i included in one character’s category also included a substantial plot point for another character. i just tried to use my best judgement; typically, if an episode mainly revolved around [insert character], significantly contributed to a character’s arc, and/or if that character had the most screen time in that episode, i labeled it as [insert character]-centric.
under the cut, you’ll find each character’s episodes!

overall, 50 episodes (or ≈64% of all h2o episodes) focus more on a specific character’s arc, leaving 28 episodes (or ≈36%) that focus more on the group as a whole.
what does this analysis tell us? well, unsurprisingly, far fewer episodes center emma or bella. but 18 episodes center cleo—does this mean that she's the main main character of the series? i'd argue that the writers framed her character this way. still, rikki, emma, and even bella are hardly minor characters. after all, h2o is about the Power of Friendship in this trio of girls who have been brought together by the mermaid secret—and each girl is supposed to play a roughly equal role in all of this.
footnotes:
*cleo and rikki were the only mermaids to appear in all 78 episodes of h2o. therefore, i didn’t break their screen time down any further like i did with emma and bella, who appeared in 51 and 26 episodes, respectively. (no, emma wasn’t in all 52 episodes of her two seasons—she didn’t appear in “the gracie code, part one”.)
**i feel like i should add that most of bella’s episodes are also will-centric. while she has more episodes dedicated to her in season 3 than cleo or rikki, this doesn’t necessarily translate to more character development or meaningful plot lines. i’ll let you form your own opinions on that, though.

3x02 - Give Me One Reason (Details) Part 2
The Home Planet
"The Oasis" is the English translation for the home planet. What follows is the details we see of the Oasis, and the story Jones spins of what happened back on the home planet.
Purple starry sky with three moons!
Tumblr media
Glowy space lizard...with wings!
Tumblr media
There's rocky terrain, like mountains, lush mossy green, purple, and blue vegetation. The color scheme of the alien tech is pretty evident in the landscape.
Nora literally building a pod. Which implies that they're not actually eggs since they're engineered.
Tumblr media
Alien letters in the pod! Similar to the alien letters in the console/bomb thingie in 2x12-13.
Tumblr media
Louise and Nora were rebels (Rebel leaders is somewhat implied, but not confirmed) hiding underground from "The Dictator".
They built the ship to escape and escape to a better place (this language is somewhat consistent with Noah's description in 1x12 too).
Healing/the power of life and death in your hands is unusual even on their planet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"If I healed too much I would get sick." Just like Max. No mention (on Jones' side) of dark/death energy though.
Easter Egg time: this scene where Jones learns he can heal by fixing the broken wing of a flying space lizard is pretty reflective of the first time Max healed in OG Roswell, by healing a bird with a broken wing in 1x11 of OG.
The Dictator came for Jones and wanted to use him in the war.
Jones denies that he would kill to regain strength after healing.
Jones says that the Dictator tortured and killed his parents, and that a part of him died with them.
Jones claims he was being used to fight someone else's war and he hated it, until he found something worth fighting for (give me one reason?).  He claims Max was his motivation for escaping the Dictator and the war.
Jones says that the rift between himself and Nora/Louise was "complicated", but never really elaborates further.
He also denies trying to start a war when he stepped off the ship. He says he was trying to protect Max "from what happened to me". He insists that the men who responded to the crash would have killed them all.
He found out about Max from memory flashes from a half-dead rebel.  They wanted Jones to heal him so that they could keep torturing him for information.
Jones claims that Nora and Louise were the ones holding Max prisoner (chained in the cave).
Nora convinced The Dictator that she was on his side. The Dictator insisted on Jones healing her, which gave her an opportunity to steal his DNA.
Random note: Jones calls Nora and Louise by name.  How does he know their names? Bronson and Walt helped them choose those names on earth.  And he didn't know where they were until the Fair, right? So did they take time to introduce each other in earthly terms?
Jones compares the apocalyptic flood in the bible to what happened to his planet, only with fire instead of water.
The Dictator: unbeatable. Had abilities no one had ever seen.
"And through the devastation walked the one who would become The Dictator.  The flames couldn't touch him. Word spread that he was immune to death, and a world rose in his image from the ash."
He and Max were just a weapon too valuable to be allowed to escape.
Jones insists that he traveled across the galaxy for the sole purpose of saving Max.

The Stag & The Wendigo
"What particular body you currently occupy is trivial." - Hannibal
Hannibal is the wendigo (man-stag). The stag is a representation of Will's "devil" within (just as “The Dragon” is the devil within Francis). Viewed as a separate being due to Will’s internal struggle. I refuse to call it a ravenstag because the reference is absurd. This is my theory on the stag & the wendigo. Feel free to let me know if I missed any.
Tumblr media
“So you set his mind on fire.”
Tumblr media
(1x1: Apéritif) It waits by his side as Will showers.
Tumblr media
(1x2: Amuse-Bouche) It disappears down the hall as Alana’s footsteps are waking Will. It was never in the room with Abigail because it’s too dangerous to be, as shown in 1x3.
Tumblr media
(1x3: Potage) Will dreams he slits Abigail's throat just as Hobbs did. It watches, but disappears when Will wakes. The difference shows in the stag and the way Will wakes. Sudden beeping of an alarm clock, scaring the stag into the woods. Slowly waking Will, stag takes his time walking down the hall.
Tumblr media
(1x5: Coquilles) It walks behind Will when he sleepwalks down the road. It nudges him to keep going. Perfect place to put this line of dialogue: “You drew a man with a freak on his back.” Will is drawn to the stag statue in Hannibal's office. “My brain is playing tricks on me?” He touches it.
Tumblr media
(1x6: Entrée) It walks through the door of his classroom because Will is half-awake. This is shown in Jack's dialogue before the cut: “I know when I’m awake.” Will doesn’t know when he is. “I'm not even sure if I'm awake now." Alana’s voice wakes Will, and the stag disappears.
Tumblr media
(1x7: Sorbet) Will sees it entering the hotel bathroom as he reenacts the crime scene. The devil within a man likes to kill, but he has to remain a separate being until Will accepts what he is.
Tumblr media
(1x8: Fromage) Hannibal kills Tobias with the stag statue because he fears Will is dead: “I was worried you were dead.” The stag left on the floor represents Will’s death, thus... the death of his devil within. This pushes forward to the stag in 2x13, dying on the floor next to Will and Abigail.
Tumblr media
(1x11: Rôti) It pushes him to Gideon’s car because Will knows he isn’t gone, and he plans to take him at gunpoint.
Tumblr media
(1x12: Relevés) Georgia’s murder helps him connect Hannibal’s kills back through to the murder of Cassie Boyle. The stag impales her, then Georgia becomes the stag. “See? See?”
Preparing for the wendigo to appear as two separate beings.
Tumblr media
(1x13: Savoureux) In dream: Will takes a rifle shot at the stag and chases it into the woods. The wendigo appears, kneeling at the tree to look at the blood he left behind. Will wakes as he comes face-to-face with the wendigo.
Tumblr media
(1x13: Savoureux) "Like a thread through pearls." The wendigo is shown throughout, starting with the dream sequence. It lurks behind the one way mirror, it stands behind Hannibal as he and Will replay the events, then Hannibal takes its shape at the Hobbs’ residence.
Tumblr media
(2x1: Kaiseki) It walks by the stream as Will imagines himself fly fishing. The wendigo comes out of the water when Will tells Chilton, "I want to talk to Dr. Lecter." He's in the water because Will plans to catch him like a fish. He sees a stag hoof outside of his cell because he hears Hannibal's shoes tapping across the floor. Similarly to Hannibal taking the stand in 2x3. Focus is placed on his shoes as he's walking into the courtroom. Hearing the animal, seeing the man. He sees the wendigo when Alana tries to help him recover his memories.
Tumblr media
(2x2: Sakizuke) Will sees the wendigo peering through the top of the silo because he knows Hannibal killed the mural killer.
Tumblr media
(2x3: Hassun) As I said of the stag hoof in 2x1, they placed focus on Hannibal's shoes as he entered the courtroom. Hearing the animal, then seeing the man. The wendigo in a person suit. Will comes to a realization in his dream. His cell door opens. When he walks out, he sees the stag at the end of the hall. It wants Will to follow him, so he does. When he reaches the end of the hall, Hannibal calls out to him. Will turns to see him as a man instead of the wendigo. He’s standing by Will’s cell. Hannibal extends his hand, motioning for him to return. Through his dream, Will basically realizes Hannibal isn't the stag. He wouldn’t direct him down the hall only to direct him back to his cell, and he can't be in two places at once. If Hannibal isn’t the stag, this only leaves one possibility in Will’s mind. IMO, one of the most important stag scenes. He now knows what it represents. Will’s knowing gives us the stag scene in 2x5. I should also make mention to the scene prior because it’s the reason Jack gets left behind in the series finale.
Tumblr media
(2x5: Mukōzuke) Will sees the wendigo lurking behind Beverly’s body, cut into sections and placed on slides because he knows Hannibal killed her. Will becomes the stag after sending his admirer to kill Hannibal. Will’s realization in 2x3... the stag is his devil within.
Tumblr media
(2x6: Futamono) Will's antlers grow through the roof of his cage and expand. “He's playing a game and he's not scared, not anymore. That's what's making him dangerous." Indeed. He’s building his rack, preparing to impale on a serious level.
Tumblr media
(2x9: Shiizakana) This episode makes it a little more obvious. "Must I denounce myself as a monster while you still refuse to see the one growing inside you?" Will dreams of using it to kill Hannibal who appears as the wendigo prior to his decapitation. The devil within a man likes to kill, it’s less personal/intimate for Will, and the "good" part of himself remains clean. This scene also acts as an introduction to Randall Tier, a young man who sees himself as an animal. During his crime scene replay, Will sends the stag to kill the couple, then he himself transforms into what I'd call a semi-wendigo.
Tumblr media
(2x10: Naka-choko) Because Will knows Hannibal sent Randall to kill him, his mind turns the bear into a stag, then the stag into Hannibal and the wendigo. When Hannibal puts on his kill suit and heads to Freddie's room, a stag picture is shown hanging above her bed. Foreshadowing. "Are you thinking about getting into bed with Freddie Lounds?" Freddie is at Will's house, the picture represents Will "getting into bed" with Freddie because he has no choice. He's baiting the wendigo. Before I get into the sex scene, pointing out something I noticed while watching 1x13 wendigo scenes: "Wind him up and watch him go. And apparently, Dr. Lecter, this is how I go." There's a certain sound sequence that plays in those scenes when the wendigo winds Will up to watch him go. It winds him up in his dream, after he vomits Abigail’s ear, in the interrogation room, and as he pulls a gun on Hannibal at Hobbs’ house. It also winds him up during their sex scene in this episode. Will is sexually driven by Hannibal. He’s winding him up and watching him go.
Tumblr media
(2x11: Kō No Mono) The opening scene appears to be a dream, but I'm not sure if it's a dream or just a representation. Either way, the wendigo follows a stag. It watches as the stag dies and Will emerges from its belly as a semi-stag. It's basically meant to come off as a rebirth, similarly to Peter’s storyline with the horses at the stable. I believe this scene appears at the open because it follows the final scene in the previous episode. In that scene, I believe Will was eating actual human flesh, as it shows his face becoming Hannibal’s before they cut to black. The wendigo appears as Shiva in Hannibal’s office. “Did you know?” Will's belief that Hannibal is the reason Margot turned to him to get pregnant, so he sees Hannibal as the destroyer of Abigail and the creator of his Verger heir.
Tumblr media
(2x13: Mizumono) "I build forts." Will returns home after meeting with Jack and Hannibal. The side-by-side doesn't show who he's truly siding with, only how he feels. “Good" Will wants to be loyal to Jack, the devil within wants to be loyal to Hannibal. He's friends with both. When he reaches his porch, he sees Hobbs waiting for him. This scene reveals who he's siding with. "See? See?" Will finally sees what he was meant to after shooting Hobbs ten times. He has two options. This episode offers the first: Kill the devil within. He and Hobbs are shown in a tree house. He takes aim at the stag on the ground and fires. Once Will saw himself in Abigail's position (wanted for the murder of Randall Tier), he decided to switch sides and disappear with Hannibal, but arrived at his house too late. At the end of the episode, the stag is shown on the floor right beside him and Abigail because it’s his devil within. They’re dying together. He betrayed the wendigo, and he can’t kill the devil within without killing himself. It’s part of who he is whether he likes it or not.
Tumblr media
(3x2: Primavera) Picking up where they left off in season two. The stag's blood floods Hannibal's kitchen. In his hospital bed, Will hallucinates being stabbed in the gut from the inside out by one of the wendigo's antlers because Hannibal cut into him. Association. Hannibal saw Antony Dimmond as the man he was before Will's betrayal twisted him up. “I'm here to help you untwist to our mutual benefit.” Antony wanted to untwist him as Hannibal wanted to untwist Will. “It's a savage pleasure, and we are born to it. A pleasure we can share." He basically says the same thing when they take off to face The Dragon. "You'd be much more comfortable if you relaxed with yourself." Typically, Will sees Hannibal as the wendigo, but roles reverse with Antony. The eating of the heart. Antony treated Hannibal as Hannibal treated Will. The stag is skinned of his person suit, his broken heart left for WiIl to eat. I made mention to this on one of my rewatch posts. Vide Cor Meum (See My Heart). The soundtrack at the end of 1x13 as Hannibal walks into the mental hospital to see Will. It’s based on Dante’s first sonnet.
Tumblr media
(3x3: Secondo) Antlers behind Will as he sits by the fire. Chiyoh is cooking dinner for her prisoner. Again, perfect place to put this dialogue: “You drew a man with a freak on his back.”
Tumblr media
(3x5: Contorno) Will hallucinates Chiyoh dead in a thicket of antlers. She pushes him off the train. The stag nudges Will awake, then walks down the tracks. His devil within basically telling him to move his ass.
Tumblr media
(3x7: Digestivo) How Will sees the wendigo as Hannibal saws into his head. The way he sees the wendigo and Jack, their faces deformed as they are... it appears somewhat similar to the way he saw Hannibal’s face when he was suffering from encephalitis.
Tumblr media
(3x6: Dolce) The dinner sene. Hannibal as the wendigo. Will on one antler, Hannibal on the other. "They are identically different, Hannibal and Will."
Tumblr media
(3x8: The Great Red Dragon) Behind Chilton in the office as he talks with Alana. Foreshadowing. Because Will’s opinion counts. “Hard to believe an inmate's opinion will count for anything in the professional community." Yes, it’s going to sting.
Tumblr media
The same position as the “pet” photograph in 3x12. I believe “This is the child of a nightmare” is a quote from Chilton’s book on Hannibal. I think Will realized it was a book of lies, and knew Chilton was planning to cash in again by writing a book of lies on The Dragon.
Tumblr media
(3x9: …And the Woman Clothed with the Sun) Hannibal's wendigo reflection in a mirror shard. They don’t show Will’s reflection. I believe they were left with a choice to make. Keep them as they are, or switch the stag to a lion and the wendigo to a tiger.
Will’s second option: Become stronger than the stag. “I’m stronger than The Dragon now.”

Avatar review: 1x12 “The Storm”
I recognise the title, so this one must be important!
Hell yeah, Zuko’s in the previously on, so he must be in the episode, right?
Giant Momo? Oh, wait, it’s a dream, isn’t it?
What happened to their tent?
Yeeeeeahhhh, it’s the funky fire boy and his funky fire uncle!
How does Iroh know there’s a storm coming?
Alright, Zuko calm down
Wait, this is s1 Zuko, that’s not happening
Why is this random fruit saleswoman wearing water tribe garb?
Why do people know about this storm? ‘My joints’? Huh?
Finally someone notices the tattoos! Thank you!
That being said, why does he go from ‘airbender’ straight to ‘avatar’, instead of ‘kid of someone who escaped’, considering that he is a child?
Character bonding? Backstory? This is what I’m here for
That random airbender child has an old man’s face, and it’s disturbing me
So, who are these other four airbender elders? Do we get information on them at some point?
So this is where we get Zuko’s story? This episode is one for backstory, isn’t it?
Baby Zuko is so cute, ohmygodddd
Yes, Zuko, spit on these old wankers
Are Iroh and Zuko the only nice people in the fire nation?
Wait no I forgot about Azula’s two friends
Gyatso is a treasure
Hey, so... what happened to Sokka? Where’s he been this whole episode?
Oh, look, it’s Azula!
Ah, so Ozai is going to burn in hell when he’s killed, good to know
This random old lady has her head screwed on right
Wait a hot minute, how did Iroh do that? What has lightning got to do with fire?!
Zuko, you absolute bean
Aww, now the boat people are listening to him
Yes, Zuko, you prioritise safety over the avatar!
He’s growing, I’m so proud of him 🥰🥰🥰
Aang, honey, what are you doing?
Is that... how storms work? I thought eyes were just in tornados, that sort of thing
Fish... kinda... is... meat... though?
The pathetic fallacy is in full swing tonight, folks
Aw it ended, I was enjoying that... wait, The Blue Spirit is the next episode? Wow, we’re really speeding things up, huh
Thoughts:
This was a great episode. I have missed Fire Lad and Quirky Uncle more than the rest of the characters combined, so I was very happy to see them again. And beyond that, I love character episodes, so I was always gonna love this. Ozai had better fucking pay by the end of this though, jesus christ-
