NAT prevents the internet to have an initial connection with the instances. 13. What is SNS? Amazon Simple Notification Service (SNS)is a web service provided by the AWS. It manages and delivers the messages or notifications to the users and clients from any cloud platform. In SNS, there are two types of clients: subscribers and publishers. Publishers produce and send a message to the subscriber instance through the communication channels. Subscribers receive the notification from the publisher over one of the supported protocols such as Amazon SQS, HTTP, and Lambda, etc. Amazon SNS automatically triggers the service and sends an email with a message that “ your EC2 instance is growing” when you are using Auto Scaling. 14. What is SQS? Amazon SQS stands for Simple Queue Service, and it manages the message queue service. Using this service, you can move the data or message from one application to another even though it is not in the running or active state. Customization: Elastic Beanstalk allows users to select the configurations of AWS services that user want to use them for application development. Management and updates: It updates the application automatically when it changes the platform. Platform updates and infrastructure management are taken care of by AWS professionals. 30. Define regions and availability zones in Amazon EC2. regions and availability zones in amazon ec2 Amazon web service has a global infrastructure that is divided into availability zones and regions. Each region is divided into a geographic area and it has multiple isolated locations called availability zones. 31. What is Amazon EC2 Root Device Volume? When the developer launches the instance, the root device volume is used to boot the instance that contains the image. When the developer introduces the Amazon EC2, all AMIs are propped up by an Amazon EC2 instance store. 32. What is Server Load Balancing? A Server load balancer (SLB. provides content delivery and networking services using load balancing algorithms. SLB distributes the network traffic equally across a group of servers to ensure high-performance application delivery. 33. How does a server load balancer work? aws server load balancer The server load balancer works based on two approaches. They are: Transport level load balancing Application level load balancing 34. What are the advantages of the Server load balancer? The advantages of server load balancer are as follows: Increases scalability Redundancy Maintenance and performance 35. Explain the process to secure the data for carrying in the cloud. One thing that must be taken into consideration is that no one should resize the data while it is moving from one point to another. The other thing to consider is there should not be any kind of leakage with the security key from the multiple storerooms in the cloud. Dividing the information into different types and by encrypting it into the valid methods could help you in securing the data in the cloud. 36. What are the layers available in cloud computing? Everything and Nothing
I've been thinking about the question for a solid month now. What about building websites has you interested this year? The question pervaded my solitary thoughts and played in the background during my conversations. I’d love to just tell you the answer I’ve come to, but the more interesting part was my thought journey in getting there.
I jumped at the opportunity to write up my thoughts on this because in general, I am delighted to dive into a conversation about anything that gets me excited. Writing, though, is heavy with irony in my life. There are so many exciting things that I'd love to write about, but I never get asked to write about them. That is of course, until I do, and my mind goes blank.
Even when I properly sat down, cleared my desk, and got out a fresh notebook out to brainstorm and reflect... I still couldn't really come up with an answer. It worried me.
I thought that maybe my answer would be too meta. Or maybe I couldn't really notice the thing I’m interested in the most because it's already seamlessly integrated into my workflow? Nonetheless, I started by collecting thoughts by way of the insta-question-answer technique, where you rapid-fire ask yourself a bunch of questions and say the first thing that comes to mind. This is a great technique when you want to get a quick, reasonably honest answer about something. If you can go fast enough, your brain's first answer is fairly genuine and generally, the one you have, consciously or subconsciously, spent time thinking about. You also have to place an injunction on your rational brain's inherent desire to veto your real answers (what if someone sees!) and replace them with more polished ones.
Let's Play: This Year's Favorites
What's your favorite song from this year? Old Town Road. I want more black cowboys wearing yellow to exist. I didn't realize how much I wanted that to exist until I saw that performance.
What movie did you like the most? Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Obviously, even though that little girl should have died like 20 times. I know I probably should have said Avengers End Game because that movie was everything but it's Godzilla. King of the Monsters. So he has to win.
Favorite tech upgrade? Automating my lights. I was a little behind the curve on this one but it's been great.
Mobile App? Kami 2. Super fun to play.
What about building websites has interested you this year? Um...
My brain shut down. There was no answer, only silence.
I thought of the answers I should want to say. That the increased focus on accessibility is encouraging. That the new edition of Ember feels pretty nice once you get over not having magic anymore. That design systems done right, paired with a framework done right, is pure productivity bliss.
Truth is, I probably could have made any of those answers work, and no one would be the wiser. After all, they are satisfying answers. Deeply satisfying. Years of passion, patience, and persistence is yielding the fruits of our labor. But none of these answers set isInteresting to true for me. So I kept thinking. Surely the answer would come to me if I let it hang around in my sub-conscious a little more.
A week came and went, but there was still nothing.
I started to become a little anxious. What did it mean? Was I burnt out? Was I just not interested in building websites anymore? Have I lost the spark? Maybe I was just not talented enough to write an article like this? Did I say "yes" to the wrong thing? As tempting as it was to crawl into bed under my covers and continue this downward spiral into the endless black hole "what does it all mean", I decided to make a strong cup of tea and lean on the skills I have developed over the last 20 plus years of building for the web.
Problem Solving Skills
We already have everything we need. There is no need for self-improvement. All these trips that we lay on ourselves—the heavy-duty fearing that we’re bad and hoping that we’re good, the identities that we so dearly cling to, the rage, the jealousy and the addictions of all kinds—never touch our basic wealth. They are like clouds that temporarily block the sun. But all the time our warmth and brilliance are right here. This is who we really are. We are one blink of an eye away from being fully awake.
This quote is from a prominent Zen Buddhist and one that I reach for when I get stuck inside myself. I remind myself that I already know the answer, I just need to use the tools I have to bring it out and let it shine. I needed to trust the process that has worked time and time again for me: slow up, write everything down, and just ship it.
Part 1) Slow Up
I had become so engrossed in the every-day mundane I was missing the inspiration. It's easy to get bogged down in lines of code, JIRA tickets, and quarterly goals, all the while explaining ad nauseum that developers should reach for semantic HTML first. I recognize the signs now and knew what I needed to do. I needed to slow down to get faster. Sounds counter-intuitive, right? But it’s the same in software engineering: slow is fast. We have proven, time and time again, that when we rush solutions we incur technical debt that we are unlikely to ever repay.
So I took some time to catch my breath and feed my creativity.
I read a book. I watched an interview with an author. I learned from a video series about a standup comedian talking about their process in creating. I sat still and listened to some cello music.
Part 2) Write Everything Down
The next part of my process is to write things down. When creative inspiration is missing, I turn to functional discipline. I have learned that they are the yin and yang of my creative process as a whole. So, I started to make lists. I listed all of the things I have shipped so far this year. I listed all of the conferences where I gave talks and the conferences where I wanted to give talks but didn't. I wrote down the things that gave me confidence this past year and the things that made me feel like an imposter. I looked at my goals from the start of the year and made a list of the things I'd done for each goal.
Then I started writing a little more, this time in paragraphs. I transcribed one of my talks and took notes on where I would do better next time. I write a review of one of my annual goals and thought a bit more deeply about what motivates and inspires me.
Part 3) Just Ship It
Then it came to me. I knew the answer.
It was nothing, but it was everything.
Nothing specifically about building websites has specifically interested me this year - but I'm still as interested as ever in building them. The answer to "what about building websites has interested you this year" is simply a resounding "Yes".
Yes, because I still love thinking about design, components, and the perfect information architecture. Yes, because as much as I swear at my code, I keep coming back to it, keep finding new things to love about it, keep feeling energized when that idea just clicks and something great happens. Yes, because despite doing this for 22 years, I still want to get up and do it again tomorrow.
And that’s when I knew that I could just ship it.
The tech of today, the tech of tomorrow
We are at a specific time and place in tech. Those of us who are building for the web have become more aware of how the tech we create effects those around us. We are starting to accept our responsibility for the lines of code that we write, and see that we cannot merely pass the buck to our supervisors and bosses to make ethical decisions. We are demanding more of ourselves, demanding more from the code we write and the systems we use, demanding more from the giants of technology who seek to abdicate responsibility for how their tech is used.
At the same time, we are figuring out how to climb the proverbial mountain together, while recapturing the fun we had back in the days we called ourselves "webmasters". We are learning to be kinder to ourselves and others. We are figuring out how to make creating for the web easier to learn and to do and we are breaking down the walls that kept far too many people out for too long.
I was watching my son while he was absorbed in lightsaber battles in virtual reality and thinking about how his childhood is so different than mine. The tech I had back then isn’t anything near the tech I have today, and the tech he has today won’t be the tech he has as an adult. What do I imagine that will look like? Even bigger than that, what do I want to help bring into existence?
The truth is, it's all interesting to me. All of it. I can't wait to see we do next and I’m so here for it.

Interview: Jorn and Koen of Framer X
The holy grail of web design used to be a three-column layout where every column had equal height. Now, the holy grail is making it so anyone can design a website or app. Visual design apps abound, one of the big names in the Mac community right now is Framer X.
Framer X isn’t staying on only the Mac platform, though. The team has big plans, and it involves more than making it easier to push pixels. They reached out to WDD to see if we wanted to get a sneak peek of what’s coming next, and since I am one of the resident app nerds, I had the pleasure of interviewing them.
WDD: Tell us about yourselves.
Framer: So Jorn and I (Koen) worked at our first company, Sofa, together in 2009. Things really took off after we won a few Apple Design Awards, when we got a call from Mark Zuckerberg. The rest is history, as they say — our company and team were acquired by Facebook in 2011, where we ended up doubling their product design team.
We spent two years there helping launch some major product features but eventually moved back to Amsterdam and co-founded Framer in 2013. It’s been both challenging and extremely rewarding to stick to our guns and build this company in the Netherlands, even raising our Series B last year.
WDD: I’m a Windows user, so I have to ask: when is Framer X coming to Windows?
Framer: It’s in the works! We have a team working hard on this and it’s part of our plan to open up Framer X to a wider audience. I can’t give you definitive dates but you can expect something in 2019. And until then, you can sign up for the waitlist here.
WDD: What inspired you to build Framer? What’s the origin story?
Framer: When we were working at Facebook, we found ourselves pitching these innovative product ideas using traditional presentation slides. It was really frustrating to try and convey responsive, interactive design ideas to board members through static imagery – it’s just counter-intuitive.
As design has evolved, so has our thinking around tooling
Unfortunately, that’s just how things were done at the time, as interactive design was still relatively new and static images were the norm. Which is why, shortly after leaving Facebook, we co-founded Framer to focus on helping everyone better express digital product ideas.
As design has evolved, so has our thinking around tooling. While Framer Classic captured a large share of the very best designers in the world, it was only accessible to a small subset of all designers, as it used code to express ideas.
So we launched a whole new product, Framer X, which opens up interactive design to everyone, regardless of coding ability and offers interfaces for everyday design tasks like wireframing, visual design and interactive work.
WDD: What other design apps most inspired your feature choices and design?
Framer: I’ve always been very inspired by Unity – especially how accessible it is. In a sense, we are building an interactive IDE for product design that anyone can use, much like Unity has done for the gaming industry.
WDD: Your software is big on sharing and centralizing libraries of design assets, and by extension, design systems. How do you, as designers, balance the benefits of design systems (consistency and speed) with the desire for experimentation most designers feel at some point?
Framer: It is definitely a tricky balance. As a company, we have a big maker culture, with a huge emphasis on shipping. A lot of of this is because we genuinely love solving hard product problems, but just as much because our community has come to expect this of us.
As we’ve grown, we’ve come to see the value of adding some structure to this process, including creating our own React-based design system, Fraction. Everyone is still very much empowered to try and test — we even have an R&D team and leave time on Fridays for more experimental projects.
WDD: Out of all the features currently on Framer X, which are you most proud of?
Framer: We’re most proud of the features that make our app so collaborative. For example, Framer X contains a built-in store where users can publish components that can do practically anything, from media players to advanced interactive controls to entire design systems.
This means that new users can instantly leverage the work of advanced users, which provides immediate value to all users and offers incredible network effects. Our community has always been at the core of our product, and the store allows us to bring that into our product in a meaningful way.
WDD: Which feature do you most wish you’d done better with on the first try?
Framer: Interactive design is always evolving, so of course our platform is as well. Framer X’s Interactive tools — Link, Page, and Scroll — have undergone the most changes, thanks in part to the feedback we got from our beta users.
Everything that used to require lines of code in Framer Classic can now be created using the canvas tools we have. I’m not sure we would do anything differently, but hindsight being 20/20, perhaps we could have done some things sooner.
WDD: You can export elements as CSS and SVG code in Framer X. Any plans to support CSS Grid for layout?
Framer: We are planning to launch a grid tool in 2019! Stay tuned.
WDD: Where do you see Framer going in 2019?
Framer: We’re going to bring Framer X to Windows and the Web to give more people access to our interactive design tool. We’ll still be focused on making it the best tool for interactive design and with that, the best place for your team to build out your design systems.
My belief is that people are way more creative than they think and with the right platform, anyone can design. So I’d love to head toward a direction where Framer X becomes accessible enough to appeal even to people who use Powerpoint.
Thanks to Jorn and Koen for taking the time to answer our questions.

50+ Free Marketing Tools Every Digital Marketer Needs
If you work in digital marketing, or if you’re currently searching for a digital marketing job, chances are you’ve heard the question: “What’s your marketing stack?”
When potential employers or your peers in marketing ask this question, what they mean is: What combination of tools do you use to execute your marketing strategy? How does your email platform work together with your social media scheduler, etc., etc.?
Every marketer has favorite strategies they swear by, and a stash of free marketing tools they couldn’t be effective without (mine is the CoSchedule Headline Analyzer!).
If you work at a large company, some of your marketing stack will be decided for you. Companies invest tens of thousands of dollars per year in email management tools alone. However, there are plenty of free marketing tools out there. If you’re a freelance digital marketer, or you’re working at a small company without a huge budget, you’ll need to be able to build a reliable marketing stack without breaking the bank.
So, how do you choose? Here are our favorite free marketing tools to get you started:
Free Email Marketing Tools
Email marketing is one of the more technical niches in the digital marketing world, which can be exciting if you want to work in a technical role without becoming a developer.
As an email marketer, you’ll hone your dev chops, using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to code up emails. You’ll also need to manage a database of users and analyze data about the emails you send.
If you work in email marketing at an established company, you’ll likely develop a specialty in a few specific tools. These can be expensive, however.
Here are some free email marketing tools you can keep in your back pocket to boost your email performance.
Free Tools for Sending Emails and Managing a List

TinyLetter is a simple, completely free email marketing tool (owned by MailChimp). It’s great for solo projects and small businesses where you’ll send newsletters, but it may not work if you need to execute more complex email marketing strategies.

I built and launched a startup in 24 hours and streamed the whole process on Twitch to thousands of viewers. Some numbers from the launch:#1 on Product Hunt#1 on Show HN (Hacker News)15k uniques9,000 Twitch views1,000 registered users18 hours of continuous streaming12 La Croix’sA screenshot of me streamingI started the day with ZERO lines of code, and ended the day with a submission to Product Hunt.During the live stream, I decided on an idea, bought a domain, planned features, wrote code, got feedback, tested, and ultimately launched it - all in the same day. After it all went down, there was a ton of buzz on Twitter about it, so I wanted to write an in-depth post about the whole process. I also wanted to write about a couple of things I believe made the stream so successful. What sparked this crazy ideaFirst of all, I just want to say that I had NO IDEA this was going to blow up - I just wanted to build something.I came up with the idea to build a startup in 24 hours while I was on a run last Tuesday. Sidebar - a couple months ago, I set a goal to go for a run every day for 100 days.Running tweetRunning is a great way to come up with and challenge your own ideas.During my runs I think a lot. I come up with little ideas on how to improve my life and my projects. Why build a startup in 24 hours?I have a full time job and I run StarterStory.com on the side. My time is super limited. But I have a lot of ideas, and no time to implement them.Even though I’m busy, I get bored sometimes. I want to BUILD STUFF.This idea I had - to create a blog “powered by Google docs” had been in the back of my mind for a while, and it kept coming back every so often. I was getting antsy to implement it.But how could I justify spending a few weeks building it? I couldn’t.The only way I could justify it was getting it done AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. I realized I had a free weekend and I was already ahead of my work on StarterStory.com.So I thought.. how can I actually build this as quickly as possible? Also, I need to hold myself accountable! How can I hold myself accountable?By streaming the whole thing!Inspiration and influenceObviously, the idea to stream is not new.I had heard before of people building startups while streaming. For example, Pieter Level’s talks about it on his book Make Book. And also Andrey Azimov streamed his launch for Make OS X Great Again.I was also recently inspired by an initiative from Matt Henderson and a few friends, who are launching 24 startups in 12 months.I think it's really badass to have the confidence to work on tons of different projects, fail quickly, and be able to worry less about the outcome (and the ego).My impulsive tweetMy impulsive tweetSo I’ll be honest, I wrote this tweet on a complete impulse. I wanted to get this project done and this idea out of my mind. The only way I could commit to finishing this project was by tweeting that I would do it.I’m not sure if it’s a good thing, but I kind of have a knack for saying I’m going to do something before I actually do it. I think it’s my way of committing. Then, the tweet totally blew up.Pieter Levels liked it, then it hit Ryan Hoover’s feed.Ryan Hoover's (founder of Product Hunt) responseOnce Ryan Hoover commented, the tweet went semi-viral.My reply to Ryan Hoover was actually how I felt at the time. Before the tweet went viral, I was thinking I would probably just have a couple of people and I didn’t have to really commit to this. But, that was clearly not that case anymore.I didn’t even have a Twitch account. I had no idea if my computer could handle streaming. I had (and still don’t have) any external microphone and camera setup - just my laptop webcam and internal mic.Commit to something and let the world know! Do crazy stuff and figure it out later. The night before / the morning ofNow that this tweet was going viral, I was getting excited but also nervous. I was thinking - What if my computer died tomorrow? I guess I would have to go buy a new one. I can’t back out now!I realized I had to switch to Twitch because YouTube has a 24 hour holding period for new accounts. This was actually a blessing in disguise which I’ll get into later. This is Friday night. I went to a bar by myself and had a couple beers to calm the nerves. Then I went to the grocery store to stock up on La Croix’s and food. The night before:Night beforeMy friend Leeron also texted me after seeing the tweet:Text conversation with my friendI was also nervous about my workstation setup.Right now, I’m in between apartments and I don’t even have a desk.I did this whole thing from an extremely uncomfortable futon with a makeshift desk-chair.The worst workstation of all timeThe streamI woke up the next morning, got a matcha latte and a bagel, and got mentally prepared.I started the stream and instantly 20-30 people joined.I think people were waiting for me? This is crazy. I heard some people even woke up early in their time zone to catch the beginning. This. Is. Nuts.Spreading the wordThe most important thing I did, other than my original tweet, was to immediately share the stream across the internet. And I actually did this all on stream, too.A clip from the stream talking about sharing and building audienceI explained to the folks watching the importance of sharing what you’re working on and building your audience. I literally typed up tweets and reddit posts on stream.I replied to my original tweet, made a new tweet, posted in a few subreddits, posted on WIP.chat, and I even posted on my own personal Facebook. The ideaThe idea for the product was a blogging platform powered by Google Docs.As I mentioned earlier, I had an idea of what I wanted to build, but I was still hazy on how I planned to implement.A little background on the idea:This idea came from the fact that I use Google Docs religiously for StarterStory.com. It’s excellent for feedback, commenting, revisions, sharing, etc.Since all my interviewees write out their interviews on Google Docs, I use the Google Drive API to extract that text, convert it to markdown, and make it a blog post on Starter Story. But I thought maybe I could take it one step further... and use Google Docs as the CMS?I have also struggled with learning WordPress. I tried using it as the backend for Starter Story, but I found it painful to learn how to customize.A few months ago, I also saw someone do something similar with Dropbox.Talking about the ideaComing up with a nameAs I explained on stream, I wanted to have a name that was catchy and controversial.I knew that my product was going to be limited in features and not very polished, so I needed something to catch people’s eye. This is a play right out of Pieter Levels or Andrey Azimov’s style, for example Pieter’s Go Fucking Do It uses a cuss word in the name. Or Andrey’s Make OS X Great Again is a pun on Donald Trump’s slogan.I chose the name You Don’t Need WordPress because I knew that people would have mixed opinions on it. I anticipated WordPress advocates getting triggered by the name, but others getting excited about the utter simplicity of it.Talking about the nameIt was at this point that I had around 100 concurrent viewers.Holy shit… I’m not fully aware or thinking about how many people that is, but it seems kind of crazy. But I was just very stressed about getting it done. I knew I had a lot of work ahead so I wasn’t really thinking too much about the amount of people watching.I also started getting more “used to” streaming, being more of myself and forgetting that so many people were watching. It’s funny, because I would be a nervous wreck if I had to speak in front of 100 people in person…A couple of streaming tips:Click Popout on the chat to have a permanent chat window in sight at all times.Put links below your stream on what you’re building and other common questions you will get. When people ask in the chat, you can tell them to look below. My Twitch video description thingA lot of people will be joining and asking the same questions. You don’t need to answer everything. Over time, my loyal streamers would help field many of the newcomer questions in the chat.Planning featuresI wanted to plan features at the beginning so I could take viewers through that process. We had a working google doc (which I linked to below the video). We started out by planning out these features:The features we planned to work onAs you can see, we planned out the features at a very high level. These features were simple, mostly CRUD stuff so they didn’t need much thought on design.Know what technology you’re going to use but don’t think about technical implementation.Planning out features with the streamersLanding pageFor me, this part was easy. I pay for premium Launchaco - a landing page builder - so I was able to mock up a landing page with ease. Then, I just exported the HTML and put it in my app.I tried to spend as little time on this as possible, as your idea isn’t even built yet - I just describe the main points and got a general layout.I figured I could polish it later. I wanted to save the final copy and assets once I was close to launching - plus, I wanted to get right into the coding. Here’s what my original homepage looked like:Original landing page built with LaunchacoAs you can see the copy and images changed with my final product, but layout and color scheme are the same.CodingThis was by far the longest, most tiring, and hardest part. The ups and downsI was confident at timesAnd I was slow, pathetic, and embarrassing at times, and I forgot basic shit like how media queries work in rails and CSS !important tags.Me being an idiotDeploy in the beginningI do this with all my projects regardless if I stream them - but I make sure to get my production environment set up and deployed before I get started. This also helps because you can deploy your landing page before you even start coding and viewers can more easily understand what you’re building.People will help you! This was was a pleasant surprise. When I was struggling, people on the stream helped me so much. Especially with CSS.I also struggled a bunch with the google API and hooking up oAuth. I almost gave up like 10 times. I would not have been able to implement it without a few of you guys in the chat. When a viewer saved my ass from a horrible bugPeople want to hear you THINK!I think talking while you code is super important.I tried my best to explain all of my decisions. Showing people your thought process is why they are watching. Also, most people won’t actually understand your code in the context of a stream, so talk! You are sharing viewers your mental models on how to get things done, how to research and solve problems and how to communicate your goals and progress. This is what will keep them here.Explain everything. Talk about your other projects and businesses, tell people who you are.I think some of the most important skills in the world are the ability to teach, and to tell a story.Instead of telling people how to do something, show them, teach them, explain different points of view, and let them have input and ownership.Pick a language you knowIf you’re going to do something like building a startup in one day, you should be very confident with your framework/language.For me, that’s Ruby on Rails, and although I’m not a great engineer, I know the ins and outs of the framework from working with it for many years in my full time job and side project.Commit your codeJust commit your code. I was so frantic that I barely did it.I actually lost some important code for being stupid and had to rewrite it.Take breaksStreaming for 18 hours was mentally exhausting. Like nothing I’ve done before. There were many times where the lines of code on the screen became blurred. That’s when I needed to take a break.I took a lot of breaks.During this time, I answered tons of questions from the chatters, checked Twitter, Reddit, email, etc. I did this all in front of the audience. I told stories about myself and talked about my other businesses. Be an open startup!Taking breaks and shooting the shit with the viewers was the best part.I also made sure to continously tweet as I "checked things off" the list. One of many tweet updatesFeedback and testThis was one of those moments where I remember being awestruck.Once I deployed the code for the first version of the MVP, I had like 10 people actually testing it immediately. They were able to find most of the bugs within 15 minutes. Shoutout to everyone who made accounts and tested.People helping me testPreparing to LaunchAt this point I’m at like hour 15 or 16, or like 1:30AM EST.I know it will be perfect timing to launch on Product Hunt, as their submissions open up at 3AM EST. So just one more hour and then I can sleep.I was close but still needed to re-do the creative and copy on the landing page and make a logo and images for Product Hunt and all that. It’s getting late, so many people are starting to drop off. But they all wish me good luck and that they will check and upvote in the morning.Writing at 2AM sucks! This was one of the worst parts.Writing the Product Hunt description and intro comment (you can see how tired I am at this point):Mentally and physically exhaustedI was so brain dead. Finally, we launched.Once I hit submit on Product Hunt, I checked back a few minutes later and it had nearly 30 upvotes. Nuts! There’s something to say about having this audience rooting for you.It had been 17 hours of continuous streaming at that point.I shared on Twitter that it was done and linked to Product Hunt. I was so tired I barely remembered writing this tweet.Little did I know, that tweet would go viral. Before I started the stream, I also created a quick newsletter. I had a link for that below my video. Anytime people let me know they were going to leave the chat, I let them know I would email them when the product was launched.Sleep! & the next dayTo be honest, I had a few bad dreams: like thinking that I got so many early upvotes that I tricked Product Hunt’s algorithm into thinking I was cheating it, and as a result didn’t even make the front page.Luckily, that wasn’t the case!I woke up at 11AM on Sunday to #1 on Product Hunt and hundreds of notifications, messages, and emails.Product HuntMy Twitter was also going bonkers. It honestly felt surreal. I spent the whole day on Twitter and email trying to respond to everything.I inspired people?I still don’t understand this…I received loads of tweets and messages about this live stream inspiring people, including from people that I really admire:Pieter Levels shoutoutProduct Hunt commentReddit DMTwitter commentThis was the best part for me.The product is cool, but inspiring tons of people to build their own products is a much bigger thing. And if I can do that by just showing the world the process isn’t as crazy or hard as it sounds, then that’s fucking amazing!I also inspired a website to be created?shipstreams.comBut of course, I got some haters too:Hater 1Hater 2I’ve learned from posting on reddit that having haters is a good thing.Having haters means that you are polarizing and being yourself. It also means people are taking notice of what you’re doing. My takeawaysCommit now, figure it out later. You’ll always find a way.Doing crazy stuff has big rewards.Streaming is not easy!Have a stated goal for your stream - something your viewers can stay excited about.Tell the world about your stream.Play some music.Twitch is probably better than YouTube since they promote your stream to other Twitch users.Talk and think out loud while streaming.Get anyone to watch - share on your personal Facebook and with friends.Engage the audience.Your viewers are your lifeline when it comes to bugs and getting through tough times.Take breaks and just talk to the audience.Push live and commit early and often.Be open and show everything.I don’t think that streaming your afternoon of coding is particularly valuable. There’s plenty of videos on YouTube if people want to learn to code. It’s important to have a well planned out stream and do something that will get people excited.I’m doing it again!Yep, you heard that right. For those that missed it or want to see it again, I will be launching another startup in 24 hours this weekend! Two weekends in a row!Come hang out, code alongside me, and watch it happen again. This time, it will be a SaaS app, and the idea was actually inspired by something that happened after my stream! The stream will start this Saturday, 9/29 at 10 AM EST. It will be streamed here.Follow me on Twitch and Twitter. If you want to be notified via email right before I go live, you can sign up here. I will never spam you :)Thanks for reading!
