Aja Romero at Vox:
One of the things that made Macklemore’s Gaza protest rap “Hind’s Hall” so electrifying when it dropped on May 6 is how unexpected it was. It wasn’t just that Macklemore, who hasn’t really seemed culturally relevant since his notorious Grammy win over Kendrick Lamar a decade ago, was suddenly headline news. It was that no one, relevant or not, seemed to be making protest music anymore, least of all about the Israel-Hamas war. Macklemore’s blistering anthem takes aim at Israel’s brutal assault on Gaza, where more than 34,000 Palestinians have been killed, following the deadly October 7 Hamas attacks. The song comes at a time when student protests around the country are pushing the conflict and America’s role in it to the forefront of cultural debate. Though Macklemore doesn’t have the reputation for political activism that other artists have, it’s not for lack of trying: He’s been producing politically themed music ever since his debut album in 2005.
Macklemore also occupies a rare position: As he himself says in a “Hind’s Hall” verse, his status as an independent artist, as well as a white one, allows him to take a bold political stance. Most artists would risk career-ending repercussions for speaking out, especially about such a polarized subject as Gaza. The post-Trump era has been a fallow period for protest music, though the current revival of campus activism could usher in an adjacent revival for the genre. But if “Hind’s Hall” hints at a return, there are other complicating factors at play when we think about what protest music even means in contemporary America.
Macklemore, surprisingly political
“Hind’s Hall” doubles as a song of support for student protesters across America and as a form of protest against Israel’s Gaza offensive itself. The song title refers both to an informally renamed building at Columbia University, the nexus of student protests there, and to the hall’s namesake, Hind Rajab, a 6-year-old Palestinian girl who was allegedly killed by Israeli troops in January, along with her family. The Israeli military also allegedly killed the ambulance crew dispatched to rescue her.
The first verse takes aim at US police and features footage of student demonstrations all across the country where law enforcement was summoned to disperse the mostly peaceful protests. Macklemore also implies that speech on social media has been suppressed: “You can pay off Meta, you can’t pay off me,” he sings, referring to Facebook’s reported censorship of pro-Palestinian views (Meta has denied that claim). The third verse takes aim at the Gaza conflict itself as well as President Joe Biden’s unwillingness to pressure Israel to change course. “Where does genocide land in your definition?” he asks. “Destroying every college in Gaza and every mosque? Pushing everyone into Rafah and dropping bombs?” — referring to Israel’s military offensive against the city of Rafah, which was supposed to be a safe zone for over a million civilians.
While protest songs experienced a resurgence in the wake of the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests, musical artists have largely stayed silent until now on the subject of Palestine. But while most people know Macklemore mainly from his 2013 hit “Thrift Shop,” a tongue-in-cheek rap glorifying swag finds from Goodwill, he’s not as unlikely a torch-bearer as you might think for this kind of performance. He’s maintained a surprisingly political catalog, starting with his debut album, 2005’s The Language of My World, which included a track called “White Privilege,” years before the concept of white privilege was well-known within the culture. The song addressed Macklemore’s conflicted feelings on the cultural appropriation of hip-hop by white culture, taking aim at everything from white audiences (“White kids with do-rags trying to practice their accents”) to “controlling” music industry corporations and white artists like himself.
Another track on the album, “Bush Song,” was even more overtly political, mocking then-President George W. Bush for everything from bigoted and sexist politics to the economy and war in Iraq. Macklemore’s most notable political move prior to “Hind’s Hall” came with 2012’s “Same Love,” a song that advocated LGBTQ equality and criticized homophobia within hip-hop culture. 2016 saw him return to the theme of racism with “White Privilege II,” a track he recorded with Jamila Woods. The track covers themes of racist police brutality and the 2014 Black Lives Matter protests over the killing of Michael Brown, protests Macklemore himself participated in.
Macklemore hasn’t escaped political controversy in the past, including an incident that complicates his decision to speak out on the Israel-Hamas war. In 2014, he wore the world’s most ill-judged costume during a performance, featuring a bulbous prosthetic nose, a black wig, and fake beard. Macklemore at first called the outfit “random” but eventually apologized for its antisemitism. Macklemore says on the track that anti-Zionism is not antisemitism, but it’s difficult to try to be the one to parse the difference when you’ve previously appeared in this kind of stereotypical getup in public. Still, missteps or not, Macklemore’s status as an independent artist — not to mention a white artist — puts him in a position to take bolder political stances than most artists. Though “Thrift Shop” catapulted him to huge fame, Macklemore primarily used, and still uses, YouTube and social media to reach his core audience. That worked well for “Hind’s Hall,” enabling the track to go viral on Instagram and Twitter before it even landed on streaming services.
[...]
Protest music isn’t what it used to be
We like to think that activism and music have always gone hand in hand, but despite a long legacy of protest music in the US, it’s been decades since we had sustained musical movements of political change and resistance. The ’90s saw plenty of riot grrrls, and the Iraq War generated its fair share of politicized music in response. These days, however, songs like Green Day’s 2004 “American Idiot” or socially conscious rap like Donald Glover’s “This Is America,” 2018’s anti-gun anthem, are rare.
The arguable death knell for protest in pop may have come in 1992, when Ice T’s heavy metal band Body Count released its eponymous debut album, featuring a still-controversial track called “Cop Killer.” The song, which protested racialized police brutality in the era of the police beating of Rodney King, prompted record stores around the country to remove the album from their shelves. It offended law enforcement organizations so much that they successfully pressured Ice T to remove the track and likely influenced Ice T’s label, Warner Bros., to part ways from the rapper at the arguable peak of his success. To this day, authorized versions of the song are difficult to find. “The early ’90s had a lot of really aggressive protest music, and that’s all gone now,” Patch explained in an interview. “And I think a lot of it has to do with the Cop Killer” case.” He noted that in addition to Warner Bros. severing its contract with Ice T, several other artists lost their contracts in the wake of “Cop Killer” for similar politically incendiary reasons. The backlash created a chilling effect over the entire industry.
Vox takes a look at Macklemore’s anti-Israel apartheid and pro-Palestinian protest song Hind’s Hall and its place in the world of protest songs.

Al-Sawai, A. (2013). Leadership of Healthcare Professionals: Where Do We Stand?. Oman Medical Journal, 28(4), 285-287 3p. This study defines leadership as behavior that drives a group towards an identified goal, and it describes a variety of leadership theories (such as transformational leadership, collaborative leadership, conflict management and shared leadership), beginning with the "early Great Man theory" (the idea that some people have the quality of leadership and some do not). Its main purpose is to identify and describe several theories of leadership as they would apply to the health care industry. The finding of the study is that effective leadership strategies should highlight "dynamic relationships between leadership values, culture, capabilities and the organizational context." The evolution of leadership development is such that, today, the most important aspect of leadership is now based on making sure that "a ready supply of replacement leaders" is available at all times within the organization, so that progress within that workplace never hits a wall when a replacement is needed. A brief description of the various theories identified in the study is included and how they relate to nursing is explained. Becker, E., Armstrong, W. (2015). Establishing a Common Vision Among Healthcare Providers. TD: Talent Development, 69(9), 70-71. The delivery of health care is evolutionary and rapidly changing in today's world thanks to the advent of new technology. However, in order to effect sustainable change, strong leadership is a necessary foundation that every nursing organization must have in order to be successful. This study examines the practicality of creating a leadership development program through coordination with Wiley and provides evidence of successful joint efforts that have helped hospitals and health care organizations overcome obstacles and meet leadership goals. The nexus of the effort is the fact that "physicians and administration" participate in "leadership discussions together" -- in other words, all levels of upper tier sections of management are on the same page working towards the same solution. Each learns to respect the needs and concerns of the other and both sides come to have an appreciation for why certain needs must be met. Having administrators work with doctors to develop the appropriate leadership objective is what it means to have a completely ordered and unanimous team of oriented and focused individuals. Instead of working on the same problem from different approaches and getting the way of each other, the two are able to team up and create a single approach that addresses the needs of both participants. It is a style of collaborative leadership that Wiley makes possible through its training sessions and intervention processes as well as its guidance throughout the effort. Evans, J. (2014). Evolving Leadership in Healthcare Design. Health Environments Research & Design Journal (HERD) (Vendome Group LLC), 7(4), 9-12. This study discusses the elements/factors that are "being used to lead the design off the future healthcare delivery model" (p. 10) in today's nursing industry. A number of factors are identified, such as clinical expertise and ergonomic design. One of the important aspects that the study highlights is the fact that more healthcare professionals are taking part in the design process so that the overall schematic is more balanced and in tune with what real-world professionals need. The study promotes the concept of "interprofessional approaches to care and coordination of care" as a way to expand, deepen, strengthen and support any and every new model of care (p. 12). The study concludes with the assessment that more healthcare professionals are needed in a design formulating capacity so that clinical leaders can help in the translation process of theoretical concepts and designs to real-world clinicians. In other words, a more functional process is suggested as firmer bedrock in the design industry when it comes to establishing a facilitating model for healthcare professionals looking to lead and provide solutions to issues that do not have easy answers. Farley, K., Hanbury, A., & Thompson, C. (2014). Gathering opinion leader data for a tailored implementation intervention in secondary healthcare: a randomised trial. BMC Medical Research Methodology, 1438. doi:10.1186/1471-2288-14-38. Retrieved from: https://lopes.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=cmedm&AN=24606877&site=eds-live&scope=site This study focuses on the results of a randomized trial in a UK mental health NHS Foundation Trust. Participants were given two questionnaires: one questionnaire asked for a variety of nominations for opinion leaders as well as information about the respondent's relationship with the person nominated. The shorter questionnaire asked for just a list of nominees or "champions" and no other information. The results were then compared by Chi Square analysis. The low rate of return for each questionnaire, however, indicated that a different method of identifying and evaluating opinion leaders should be utilized as, the questionnaire-based method did not really maximize the potential of the organization's ability to self-determine leaders from within. Thus, as the study points out, identifying opinion leaders remains a challenging and difficult task in the health care industry. "Methods need to be robust, reliable, attract low resources and identify high quality opinion leaders" but the questionnaire method used in this study do not provide the necessary results or meet the expected parameters for a well-defined assessment. The study found that a truly successful assessment would require many more and much lengthier questionnaires. However, the fact that response rates were low for each of the questionnaires given in this study suggests that a questionnaire method of identifying leaders is not the best approach. Garvey, D. (2011). Management and Leadership in the Health Services. Academic Leadership (15337812), 9(3), 1-5.Retrieved from: https://lopes.idm.oclc.org/login?url=http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=ofs&AN=92605765&site=eds-live&scope=site This study examines the ways in which clinical leaders are developed so as to support the overall ability of an organization to the transform itself and evolve or rise to the next level of care provision. The development of clinical leadership is viewed as catalyst or engine for this transformation process. The study focuses on methods of Atrius Health and its health care delivery process and how well it meets the needs of the Massachusetts marketplace. The study also highlights the nature of education/development of healthcare leadership as well as what processes should be considered when drafting and implementing a new leadership program for clinicians in the healthcare industry. The study concludes by identifying a number of methods that can be utilized to more effectively construct an efficient leadership training and development program that will serve both the industry providers and the industry consumers in the new technologically-driven 21st century. As the marketplace becomes more and more digitally-dependent it is important that leadership appreciate the new solutions that technology can deliver especially in the light of teleheath possibilities which are becoming increasingly popular. Hart, P. L., Spiva, L., Baio, P., Huff, B., Whitfield, D., Law, T., & ... Mendoza, I. G. (2014). Medical-surgical nurses' perceived self-confidence and leadership abilities as first responders in acute patient deterioration events. Journal Of Clinical Nursing, 23(19/20), 2769-2778 10p. This study examines the perception of self-confidence that medical-surgical nurses have (as well as their leadership skills/qualities) when acting in first response capacity and treating patients with clinical deterioration ahead of the intervention of a team of emergency responders. The study utilized a prospective, cross-sectional survey to gather data from responders. Participants included nurses who were selected from a system of healthcare providers in the U.S. The survey included a questionnaire that incorporated demographic, leadership and self-confidence level questions. The study found that of the 148 participants, the overall self-confidence level of the nurses was moderate and the leadership ability assessment was equal. The study identified a positive correlation between perceptions of self-confidence and leadership. Likewise, experience (age) and status of certification served as a strong predictors of self-confidence/leadership. The study concludes by suggesting that education could help to support the promotion of self-confidence levels among nurse respondents as well as to enhance their leadership training/abilities in treating patients with clinical deterioration. Likewise, the study asserts that nurses should be certified so as to support this method and to deepen their understanding, skills and ability to meet the needs of patients in this predicament. Hui-Gek, A., Meng-Yeow Koh, J., Jeffrey, L., Yong-Hao, P., Ang, H., Koh, J. M., & ... Pua, Y. (2016). Development and preliminary validation of a leadership competency instrument for existing and emerging allied health professional leaders. BMC Health Services Research, 161-8. This study looks at a way to gauge leadership competency levels among allied health professional leaders. The study examines the properties of a leadership competency instrument that can adequately assess factor structure and validity. A cross-sectional method of data gathering was used among more than 100 Singapore hospital staff members of varying levels. The results indicated that "skills and values formed separate factors" in the overall establishment of leadership ability. The researchers conclude that a good instrument or model of assessing leadership among the selected group is the Aspiring Leaders in Healthcare-Empowering Individuals (AHEAD) and the Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI) which helps to assess competency in this healthcare sector. Kumar, S., Adhish, V. S., & Deoki, N. (2014). Introduction to Strategic Management and Leadership for Health Professionals. Indian Journal Of Community Medicine, 39(1), 13-16. This study observes that leadership is about providing so that the right thing can be done at the right time -- a lesson taught by Florence Nightingale. The problem that the study addresses is a lack of health care leadership in parts of the world such as India, the Middle East and Asia. The study asserts that there is no real leadership training in these areas and their schools and that the typical health care provider only gains leadership skills by trial and error, observation, and self-learning. The study compares management and leadership and notes the distinctions as well as how they complement one another. The study also provides a leadership model that is relevant for health care personnel: the Jim Collins model of five levels of leadership. The study concludes with the observation that in today's health care world, leadership and managerial roles are essential as a result of the impact of globalization in health care. There are rapid changes being introduced in technology, delivery and accountability, and the Jim Collins Level 5 model can help professionals understand what skills are needed when as they move up the hierarchy of development. The study asserts that "leadership can be learned" thus contrasting with the Great Man theory of early leadership studies. The study calls for a "government led comprehensive approach" to creating sound leadership skills by instituting a curriculum that addresses this need in India and other parts of the world where it is lacking. Mabbott, I. (2013). Reviews. Practical Leadership and Management in Healthcare: For Nurses and Allied Health Professionals -- Second edition. Nursing Standard, 27(50), 28-28 1p. Mabbott highly recommends this book for its good advice on leadership. The book acts as a go-to guide for anyone in a leadership position who has questions and/or needs tips on leading. The book's structure is divided into three sections and examines in a straight-forward manner the precise and practical issues that determine the quality of leadership and management today. It does so in a simple way, however, so that any person who is new to leadership in the healthcare industry can easily make his or her way through the book and come to identify and better understand nursing concepts and how they might actually relate to the real world. Case studies are utilized in the book to help to shed light on the concepts as they are discussed. All aspects of management are covered, from budgeting to time management, to recruiting and filling staff positions to clinical risk. The way the book is structured it can be used as an encyclopedia of leadership in nursing. MacPhee, M., Li-Lu, C., Havaei, F., & Wen-Shan, C. (2014). A Descriptive Account of an Inter-Professional Collaborative Leadership Project. Administrative Sciences (2076-3387), 4(3), 373-399. This study examines the outcome of a collaboration leadership exercise between a group of five "inter-professional teams" located at an urban cancer treatment center in Taiwan and the healthcare faculty plus professional development director. This workshop exercise resulted in the development of a new structure and process of workshopping ideas connected to leadership in the health industry. Instruction was provided by the academic faculty and discussions were facilitated by the professional development director's efforts among the five teams. Interactive exercises were also conducted to reinforce ideas and concepts taught by the faculty. Suggestions were made for better overall development of leadership skills, such as the continuation of appreciative inquiry exercises as well as the rotation of team members in leadership positions, so that each member gains more experience as the leader. The study concludes with a discussion of the fundamental elements of leadership as they were covered in the workshop as well as an assessment of the evaluation method, instructional strategies and expected results that a future program for increasing effective leadership in the healthcare sector could utilize. Gaming Communities: The New Social Nexus of Interaction and Connection
Tumblr media
The Rise of Social Gaming and Live Streaming
In today’s digital age, gaming communities have blossomed into vibrant social hubs, driven by the intersection of social gaming and live streaming. Platforms such as Twitch and Discord have transformed gaming from a solitary pursuit into a collaborative experience where players forge meaningful relationships based on shared interests (Hamilton et al. 2014). This dynamic environment fosters not just competition but lasting friendships that often transcend geographic boundaries, enhancing community engagement (Sheng & Kairam 2020).
Tumblr media
The Impact of Streamers and Community Engagement
The rise of live streaming has intensified this community engagement, turning gamers into celebrities and influencers. For example, streamers like PewDiePie or Mixi Gaming - those with millions of viewers have cultivated dedicated fan bases by sharing their gaming experiences live, allowing for real-time viewer interaction (Afi & Ouiddad 2021). This communal experience not only enhances enjoyment but also leads to new career opportunities, particularly appealing by monetising their passions through subscriptions and sponsorships (Johnson et al. 2019). Essentially, these platforms empower and support gamers by transforming into the eSports industry (Edge 2013), creating sustainable careers in an evolving digital landscape.
Tumblr media
Challenges and the Future of Gaming Communities
However, while these communities provide a sense of belonging, they also face challenges, such as toxic behaviour, cyberbullying and harassment (Bodaghi et al. 20223, highlighting the necessity for robust moderation policies and community standards to maintain an inclusive atmosphere (Behl et al. 2024). As gaming continues to evolve with technologies like 5G and AR, the potential for more immersive experiences will deepen connections among players (Hazarika & Rahmati 2023). It is crucial for platforms to prioritize safe, engaging spaces that celebrate diversity while actively combating negative behaviours.

Gurgaon Real Estate Trends 2025: A Booming Market for Investors & Homebuyers
Gurgaon, officially known as Gurugram, has rapidly transformed into a premier real estate destination in India. With its strategic location adjacent to the national capital, Delhi, and a robust infrastructure, the city offers a plethora of opportunities for both investors and homebuyers. As we delve into 2025, several key trends are shaping Gurgaon's real estate landscape.realestateindia.in
1. Surge in Luxury Real Estate
The demand for luxury properties in Gurgaon has seen a significant uptick. Leading developers are launching high-end projects to cater to affluent buyers seeking premium amenities and exclusivity. For instance, DLF's "The Dahlias" project achieved record bookings, selling 173 units worth approximately $1.4 billion within nine weeks. This trend underscores the city's appeal to high-net-worth individuals. reuters.comreuters.com

2. Emphasis on Sustainable and Smart Living
Modern homebuyers are increasingly prioritizing sustainability and smart home features. Developments now incorporate eco-friendly designs, energy-efficient systems, and home automation technologies. Projects like M3M Golf Estate and DLF Crest exemplify this shift towards intelligent and green living spaces. m3mprojects.net.in+1realestateindia.in+1m3mprojects.net.in+1
3. Expansion of Mixed-Use Developments
The concept of mixed-use developments, which integrate residential, commercial, and retail spaces, is gaining traction. These projects offer the convenience of living, working, and leisure within a single vicinity, reducing commute times and enhancing lifestyle quality. Central Park Resorts and Sobha City are notable examples of such integrated townships in Gurgaon. realestateindia.in
4. Growth in Affordable Housing
While luxury segments thrive, there's also a concerted effort to address the affordable housing market. Government initiatives and favorable policies have spurred developments targeting mid-income families and first-time homebuyers. Projects like Signature Global Millennia and Pyramid Infinity are catering to this demand, offering budget-friendly housing options without compromising on quality. reuters.com+1realestateindia.in+1reuters.com+1
5. Infrastructure Advancements
Gurgaon's infrastructure continues to evolve, enhancing its real estate appeal. The Rapid Metro Gurgaon, operational since 2013, has improved intra-city connectivity, especially around commercial hubs. Plans are underway to expand this network, further integrating the city's transit systems. en.wikipedia.org+1en.wikipedia.org+1en.wikipedia.org+1en.wikipedia.org+1en.wikipedia.org+1en.wikipedia.org+1

6. Rise of Co-Living Spaces
The influx of young professionals and students has led to a burgeoning co-living sector. These spaces offer affordable rents, shared facilities, and foster a sense of community. Areas like Cyber City and Golf Course Extension Road are hotspots for co-living developments, catering to the dynamic needs of the millennial workforce. realestateindia.in
7. Commercial Real Estate Boom
As a corporate nexus, Gurgaon's demand for Grade-A office spaces remains robust. The city attracts multinational corporations, driving the need for premium commercial properties. Additionally, high-street retail spaces are flourishing, offering upscale shopping experiences. Projects such as M3M Capital Walk and Spaze Boulevard exemplify this commercial growth. realestateindia.in
Conclusion
Gurgaon's real estate market in 2025 is characterized by a harmonious blend of luxury and affordability, driven by innovative developments and infrastructural progress. Whether you're an investor seeking lucrative opportunities or a homebuyer in search of your dream residence, Gurgaon presents a dynamic and promising landscape.

MSRP 59,99 USD
youtube
It’s a great joy, a rare one, to get the chance to play a non-frills singleplayer game with to-do-point mechanics. Mechanics are vital parts of a game, how it works and how the player is supposed to play the said game, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is on another level, it is super fun, mechanics are kept to minimum, and they don’t get in your way when you’re playing, and everything is steady and consistent. Rift Apart deserves all the praise I can present here and more.
Tumblr media
As a gamer I have never played a Ratchet and Clank game before honestly, this is my first time going into the franchise, this title is one of the launch titles for PlayStation 5, which later released on PC with additional technical capabilities and features. In my playtime I tried to keep the game at steady 60 FPS therefore I did limit some graphical settings to medium, as a result of that, you may see some slight pixelated assets here and there, otherwise the game looks extra sharp and crisp.
Tumblr media
Rift Apart takes the story from the previous game of the franchise, Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus, which was released back in 2013, so it is highly likely that you are familiar with the franchise or the preceding game, the game opens with a short and concise tutorial section which plays as the sequence that sets the tone and scene for the rest of the game. Ratchet and Clank are galactic heroes and a parade is being held in honour of them, yet Ratchet and Clank acknowledge that they have been out of the game for sometime and haven’t done much since their last mission from the previous game. Right at this point the parade gets invaded by Doctor Nefarious, the long-time arch nemesis of Ratchet and Clank, during the fight between them and Doctor Nefarious’s goons, Clank surprises Ratchet by showing that he fixed Dimensionator recently, Nefarious grabs it and opens dimensions one after the other, and we get sucked into them respectively. As parallel universes are created and visited, we find ourselves in a parallel reality where Doctor Nefarious is the beloved and feared dictator of the entire galaxy. From this point onwards, we play as Ratchet, Clank and Rivet (who is another rebel in this parallel reality).
Now I’d like to share some gameplay clips, here is the first boss fight:
youtube
This is one of the high-action scenes, where you’re required to make quick decisions:
youtube
As can be seen in the clips, action-adventure spirit is greatly executed on gameplay level, backed up by superb environmental detail and vivid locations. One thing that stands out prominently is that, I never felt the need to interact with menus in this game, the game is always on-the-go, and the game always guides you to the next location without making you feel ‘okay I should arrive the targeted location’, that’s why the map that can be found in menu is never needed. The world is offered to you before you and the linear story progression takes you to the next place smoothly.
The game makes use of dual-reality setup as well in a number of missions, basically you switch between two dimensions and progress as they allow you.
youtube
Lastly, you can purchase and upgrade new weapons with the currency that you collect by destroying boxes around and killing enemies:
youtube
Also, the menu offers map, cosmetic items for the character and light codex entries that can keep you up with story of the franchise:
youtube
Rift Apart is a great family-friendly action game that will make you fall in love with, it is lively, enjoyable, teeming with energy all-around.

DAWless music production - a tactile experience
Have you ever thought about what makes DAWless music production different? For me "tactile" was one of the first ones coming to my mind. But there are some more. Let's explore them.
DAWless music production differences
I have already posted a little guide on DAWless music production and given some more tips later, let's not spend more time on that topic. The reason why I post about this topic is about touching, turning on and off, pushing, swiping, swinging, and all the other things one can easily do while being DAWless. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y93g49fEgd8 It has been years now since I continuously use PO-33 KO, a simple and budget DAWless instrument. Technically a little sampler that offers me a kind of on-the-go music production experience. And I enjoy taking it with me, jamming then recording it. Imperfect but on-the-spot sketches, which is like drawing with music to me. I often record some noises around and implement them in the beat.
Difference to MIDI-based instruments - though both tactile
Putting it simply: with DAWless you can leave for the moment. MIDI instruments (I use many including both pads and keys) are also tactile but in a sterile environment. As stated above, a DAWless can be easily and effortlessly taken outside. And it subsequently boosts one's creativity as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcS5t1KapiE Despite being tactile, MIDI instruments are built for in-house use only. Let alone you are to have a laptop as well round the clock to enjoy the full potential.
Mobile applications - not so tactile
On the other, if only mobility matters, you may choose to use your phone only, right? It is. I use Koala Sampler a lot for this purpose. My smartphone is with me around the clock, so why not fully benefit from it? Even more, from time to time I think about buying a tablet again (I was a happy owner of the old Nexus 7 2013) to produce more beats. What makes a huge difference here is the lack of any button or slider or anything to boost the production process.
Limitations of DAWlessness
The downside of this music production is simply the mass amount of limitations. Most samplers have their own workflow that is often least intuitive to DAWs. Which requires much more time to own and master. Furthermore, you need to prepare your sampler for your journey, to have enough (and good) samples and instruments recorded in order to jam. Many can save a limited amount of patterns and flows, so you need tools as well (minimum your phone and some cables) to record them. I mean, some can store the recorded sessions easily, but then you are going up with the price pretty fast. And lastly price. We all die of owning a dope MPC, or SP404, but take your time thinking of your dedication before purchasing one. On the other hand, cheaper ones have more limitations in every aspect. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y90Lkk2QTYY All-in-all they are fun to use and a beautiful way for expressing your musical ideas for your audience. An imperfect but cool way. As stated above, to me producing DAWless is like sketching. I enjoy the touch of the gadget, the tactile-ness so to speak. I embrace the limitations of it and ultimately: live for that moment.

GAPminder data analysis on gdp, life expectancy and child mortality
STEP 1: Choose a data set that you would like to work with.
STEP 2. Identify a specific topic of interest
STEP 3. Prepare a codebook of your own (i.e., print individual pages or copy screen and paste into a new document) from the larger codebook that includes the questions/items/variables that measure your selected topics.)
STEP 4. Identify a second topic that you would like to explore in terms of its association with your original topic.
STEP 5. Add questions/items/variables documenting this second topic to your personal codebook.
Answer to steps 1 – 5:
I selected these 3 datasets of the GAP Minder dataset: GPD, life expectancy and child mortality rate. I studied Business Administration with a heavy leaning into Macroeconomic, so a link from GDP to other criteria’s is always something of interested for me.
The first question is: With GDP getting higher does the life expectancy get better?
I would hope so, since with higher GPD the countries will have more opportunities to ensure a better health industry. However when thinking about health issues often adult health issues comes to mind like e.g. Parkinson etc.. . So I was wondering -also as I am a mother of a 9 year old son - what about the health issues that are not adult related?
So the second question is: with GDP getting higher does the child mortality rate get better? I would also like to see that the child mortality rate does go down if the GPD goes up.
I therefore created this excel file: “gdp_pcap_vs_life_expectancy_vs_child mortality” which shows the 3 criterias over the years from 1990 to 2010. It also has one tab each that explains the source and indicators and also includes the link to the original data.
STEP 6. Perform a literature review to see what research has been previously done on this topic. Use sites such as Google Scholar (http://scholar.google.com) to search for published academic work in the area(s) of interest. Try to find multiple sources, and take note of basic bibliographic information.
For literature review I used   http://scholar.google.com.
For the question “With GDP getting higher does the child mortality get better?” I found two articles
*) ”Socioeconomic development and life expectancy relationship: evidence from the EU accession candidate countries” (https://link.springer.com/article/10.1186/s41118-019-0071-0) Author: Goran Miladinov; Published in Genus, 2020
*) “The casual nexus between child mortality rate, fertility rate, GDP, household final consumption expenditure, and food production index” (https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/23322039.2016.1191985). Author: Samuel Asumadu-Sarkodie &Phebe Asantewaa Owusu; Published in Cogent Economics & Finance Volume 4, 2016
*) "Impacts from Economic Development and Environmental Factors on Life Expectancy: A Comparative Study Based on Data from Both Developed and Developing Countries from 2004 to 2016; (IJERPH | Free Full-Text | Impacts from Economic Development and Environmental Factors on Life Expectancy: A Comparative Study Based on Data from Both Developed and Developing Countries from 2004 to 2016 (mdpi.com) Authors: Chen, Zhiheng, Yuting Ma, Junyi Hua, Yuanhong Wang, and Hongpeng Guo. 2021." International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health 18, no. 16: 8559.
Outside of  scholar.google.com I also found this article with regard to the question “With GDP getting higher does the life expectancy get better?”
"Life Expectancy", Authors: Max Roser, Esteban Ortiz-Ospina and Hannah Ritchie (2013). Published online at OurWorldInData.org. Retrieved from: 'https://ourworldindata.org/life-expectancy' [Online Resource]
Health and economic growth: Evidence from dynamic panel data of 143 years. Author: Sharma R (2018)
PLoS ONE 13(10): e0204940.
STEP 7. Based on your literature review, develop a hypothesis about what you believe the association might be between these topics. Be sure to integrate the specific variables you selected into the hypothesis.
Hypothesis: With a higher GDP the life expectancy will go up and with a higher GDP the child mortality will go down.
