What is your Skamverse Story?

I found Skam in the winter of 2020, when the world was a bit strange and scary. After binging the series, dragging two friends from a previous fandom with me, and then signing up to the 2021 Big Bang (despite promising myself I was just having a look on AO3, I wasn’t going to write anything…) I have volunteered to mod for a second time. The fandom and community have been so wonderful and welcoming, and I’m so happy to be a part of it.

Why are you excited to participate in the Skam Big Bang?

The Skam Big Bang is such a wonderful event, showcasing incredible work from so many talented people. This will be my fourth bang, and I’m so grateful for its existence and would love to see it continue and thrive.

What would you say to someone nervous about joining?

Welcome! The community I have found through the Big Bang has been so lovely and welcoming, and especially friendly to new faces. We mods will also be around to help and guide you if you have any questions, but each year I have had so much fun and hope you will too.

Even doesn’t really need a bot.

What he needs is an actor. One who won’t bitch about the concept or the lighting or quit suddenly to follow a hook-up to Barcelona.

He won’t be cruel or irresponsible. Even just has to make some films again soon before he forgets how or gets too scared to.

Later on, when the Bot is sitting on the living room couch, one hand, soft and unexpectedly gentle, at his thigh, Even will think, shit.

The angles are boring, the lighting is terrible, there is no mise-en-scène and he finds himself zoning out on some unseemly aspect―an ugly bedspread, bad music, or an insistent cell phone going off―mid-jerk. Someone overdoes the moaning or says something ridiculous, and it’s just not believable enough. It's not Isak.

Thursday 20 October, 15:10

JONAS and ISAK walk out of the school yard after the last class of the day. Around the corner is a bunch of people dressed in neon clothes, yelling about tickets for a revue party. IMPRO they’re loud.

JONAS: That revue thing, man, it reminds me of a sect, I’m getting, like, weird Christian vibes, it’s not right, man

ISAK tries to laugh: Agree

ISAK’s phone beeps, he takes it out, it’s a text from Vilde: Hey, how many people can you host at your place? Here’s a preliminary list of those who said they’ll attend the revue party tomorrow: Chris, Eva, Sana, Julian 1STB, Marianne 2STC, Emma 1STB, Silje 1STA, Eline 1STA, Sara 1STA and Even 3STB. Is it ok if I try to push for 5-6 more? It’ll be cooler if we’re more people.

ISAK’S heart skips a beat when he reads EVEN’S name.

JONAS (off): Should we try setting up a pre-game with Emma and her friends tomorrow or?

ISAK looks up: Yes! Or, tomorrow?

JONAS: Do you have plans?

ISAK stressed: No, or like I don’t know, maybe

JONAS: What are you doing then?

ISAK feels pressured: Just Eskild’s organizing some dinner thing in Kollektivet, like it’s tradition or whatever, I kinda said I’d be there

JONAS: The whole night?

ISAK: Uh yeah, or, I don’t know how long it takes

ISAK and JONAS cross the street and walk towards the tram stop. At that moment ISAK discovers EVEN, who’s already there waiting for the tram. ISAK panics, he can’t deal with EVEN potentially talking to him right in front of JONAS, he can’t mix those two worlds, what if EVEN starts talking about the revue party.

ISAK slows his steps.

ISAK: Let’s just chill here.

JONAS looks over at ISAK with confusion, ISAK looks down at the ground. JONAS sends ISAK an inquisitive glance.

JONAS: What’s the deal with you and that dude?

ISAK stressed: What are you talking about, there’s no deal

JONAS: It’s like you hate him or something

ISAK: Oh okay, no I don’t hate him, he’s just like really annoying

JONAS: How so?

ISAK: How?

JONAS: Yeah?

ISAK: Like, he’s just like… ISAK can’t think of a single thing about EVEN that’s annoying… I don’t know, he’s just annoying.

JONAS: Ok

ISAK goes for convincing: You know, like, some people are just annoying

Unfilmed scene from the SKAM Season 3 raw script. English translation below.

THURSDAY 17 November 01:55 am

ISAK is lying in bed. It’s completely quiet, but he still can’t sleep. He turns over on his side.

—JUMP

He turns to the other side.

— JUMP

He kicks off the duvet

— JUMP

He sits up

—

He opens the door to his room. NOORA is right outside sleeping on a mattress on the floor. He tiptoes past her.

—

ISAK enters the kitchen. He opens the fridge and vacantly stares inside. He’s forgotten what he was doing. He spots a litago (chocolate milk) with ISAK on it and checks the date. It expired two days ago (DATE). ISAK smells it, it smells fine. He takes a gulp, it tastes fine. He brings the litago with him and takes a seat by the kitchen table, but he doesn’t drink it, he just sits there, staring at nothing. He hears a sound and looks up. He jumps. ESKILD is at the door with a face mask and a towel wrapped around his head.

ISAK: Jeezes!

ESKILD: What are you doing up?

ISAK: You scared me

ESKILD studies ISAK for a moment and sees that he’s tired. He walks over to the kitchen counter and turns on the kettle. There’s an elephant in the room, they haven’t really talked since ESKILD explained Pride to ISAK.

ESKILD: I’ve got this Yogi tea that makes you tired, do you want some?

ISAK: Sure, thanks.

Silence falls again. ISAK takes a gulp of the litago. Perhaps it’s gone bad after all, he smells it again. ESKILD looks at ISAK.

ESKILD: Are you having problems sleeping?

ISAK lies: Nah… there was just some noise outside the window

ESKILD nods but doesn’t believe him. He takes out two cups from a cabinet and opens a pack of Yogi tea. He puts the teabags in the cups and pours boiling water over. ESKILD hands ISAK a cup and sits down. ESKILD adds two spoonfuls of sugar to his own tea and looks over at ISAK, ISAK shakes his head. It’s quiet again. They both take a sip. Large two shot of them, where they’re sitting at the table (both facing the room, not each other), ESKILD with a face mask and a towel wrapped around his head, ISAK with a tired, withdrawn face. ISAK understands that he’s got to say something. He looks at ESKILD and finds his courage.

ISAK: Hey, sorry about what I said.

ESKILD looks at ISAK

ISAK: Dissing gay pride, I didn’t mean it. Seriously.

ESKILD calmly: I know you didn’t mean it.

ISAK looks at ESKILD and nods. It’s quiet between them again. ISAK takes a sip of his tea. ESKILD tries to find an in to what he wants to say.

ESKILD: When I was in 4th grade, Olav from my class said I sounded like a girl.

He doesn’t hook up with friends, or the friends of friends. He sticks to Grindr and people he doesn't know—he’s not looking for anything more than something quick, temporary, for one night. That sweet release that comes with sex, with two bodies moving together.

When he meets Even, he breaks that rule. It's so easy with him, and besides, neither of them wants anything more. They don’t even specify why; they don’t have to. They have no obligations to do that, and that’s good. That suits Isak perfectly right now.

Hello, hello!!

It’s been a long time since I wrote anything, hasn’t it? But that is over now! The 2021 @skambigbang​ got me writing again and it’s finally time to show you all my work, NUMB WITHOUT YOU with the amazing artwork of  Stewit234!

It’s a piece of work I stared back in March 2020 and picked up this year. It was the first thing I started writing with Isak & Even, so it’s my baby (even if it took me a year to post it).

Here’s the summary if you’re interested to give it a read:

Even has a citizenship in the USA. Isak needs a green card for a fellowship. As always, Sana is the one with the answers and sets them up. A fake marriage that leads to them living together in another country and stuck with each other during quarantine. With time, feelings change and none of them knows how to deal with it. So, obviously, Even turns to Reddit for answers. The rest is a love story.

So guilty as charged, I am one of those people who always waits for fics to be finished before reading (serial binger here) but I've got a problem now, there's so many good ones that I don't know where to start 😅 I had started with your fic and loved that so much, I was wondering if you had any suggestions or any favorites you may recommend? Top 5 or 10? I'm sure I'll get thru them all eventually, but I'd love to have some good ones to start with 💙 Takk!

I totally get you about the binge aspect—waiting for updates can be rough. I know a lot of people prefer to read completed fics, and now that all of the 2021 Bang fics are complete there sure is a LOT to choose from.

I gotta be honest with you though, as a moderator for this year's challenge, it really isn't possible for me to single out favorites. What I can assure you, however, is that there is a lot of variety in the collection. A collection that I am immensely proud of.

26 complete works, with word counts ranging from 11 to 213k! Multichapters as well as one shots; AU:s on different themes as well as canon compliant fics. I daresay there is something for nearly everyone in there. So, my recommendation would be to head over the AO3 collection and let inspiration guide you. Look through the tags, read the summaries, or let the different artworks catch your eye. And enjoy!

What is your Skamverse Story?

I came to SKAM by way of YR. Scouring YT for more interviews of the actors, I looked at the video comments, one of which suggested watching SKAM, and the AllofSkam website. That was November of 2021. A strange time for me, in my personal life, where Even’s condition, how it was treated in the show, how HH interpreted it, and Isak’s plight came to fill a lack of understanding that I didn’t know I needed to fill in my own life. In my search for more, I saw announcements of SKAM Big Bang in 2021/22. I’ve become an avid reader of the stories being written for this fandom. That pushed me to take on the challenge from Anna_Driesen2121 to write for the Bang in 22/23. In the process I’ve met with authors of some of my favorite fics, some of whom graciously agreed to beta my very first story.

Why are you excited to participate in the Skam Big Bang?

I’ve wanted to give back to this fandom. The people I have met on this journey have been very generous toward me. The Skam Big Bang 23 event last year was an amazing experience. I’d like to think that we can make it as interesting this year, hopefully improving and opening expanding the fandom.

What would you say to someone nervous about joining?

I was nervous too, but I found community and support while doing it. Part of the Bang is being surrounded and being able to ask questions of people that have done it a few times. And commiserate with others, for whom it’s the very first time. Be organized, have a plan for your story, be open with your beta, be grateful for your artist. The rest will work itself out. Don’t be discouraged by language, remake, or ship of choice. First and foremost,are writing for yourself. You need to like it.
