been having a little 2521 fics and final blogposts anniversary reminiscence and i just wanted to once again recommend the cdrama lighter & princess for anyone who needs reassurance that a college-to-adult love story with a dual timeline can and does work. it's such a perfect show with wonderful character development, irresistible romance and flawless pacing that lets a slowburn rivalry-to-partnership-to-friendship-to-lovers story reach its fullest potential while providing the angst and heart-to-heart resolutions to make it worth rewatching again and again. the reason i haven't written as much about it here is that it's already so accomplished it hardly needs me to emphasize the writers' and actors' achievements, i can only invite you to discover its warmth for yourself ♡

According to these Lava Rock Bar & Grill patrons
“Awesome happy hour! Bartender was great. Appetizers and fish tacos were delicious.” Greg W., February 2023 “While not right on the water, this place has a nice view from the deck. My friend and I got a seat right on the view side and got to see a gorgeous sunset. I got the poke nachos, and they were really good.” Elsie G., February 2023 “Food is AMAZING. We came two days in a row for breakfast lunch and dinner. We had Joseph for breakfast and he was incredible. He suggested great drinks and food for us. We had Destiny the next day and she was also a gem. And of course Joseph still took care of us even though he wasn’t our server. 10/10 recommend. Will be suggesting this place to all of our friends.” Courtney P., February 2023 “Love Lava! My husband and I spent our honeymoon in Kihei and were looking for a nice breakfast spot to start our mornings. So happy we stumbled upon Lava. $2 mimosas until 2PM and awesome food (Sunrise Burger if you need some help in the morning!) Staff is fun, attentive, and accommodating.” Brianna R., October 2022 “$2 mimosa’s with food! This is the best breakfast spot on Maui with the best breakfast happy hour! We originally were going to another breakfast spot near by but they had a very long line. Lava rock bar & grill was just opening at 8am and we were the second people in line, we were seated right away and the service was quick and friendly. We only got breakfast here, but it was so good that we came back two more times for breakfast! The staff and locals here are awesome, we made friends with one of the regulars and had a great time talking with the staff as well, an amazing group of people.” Miranda S., October 2022 “We went to the Lava Rock during our Honeymoon and we were incredibly impressed by the ambiance and food! When you walk in it feels like any other sports bar in America, but once you get to the outdoor seating that overlooks the beach in Kihei and get a taste of their food, it supersedes most of the restaurants we visited in Maui! Great food! Great service! Great prices! Had the fish tacos and the teriyaki bowl! Also who doesn’t love mimosas for $2 before 2:00 pm every day! Thanks for a great meal!” Khala, November 2021 “On our 10 day vacation in Maui during October 2021, we dined at this restaurant 3 times, once for breakfast and twice for dinner. When we went for breakfast, we were surprised that we we could get seated immediately at an ocean view table. The first time we ate dinner there, we didn’t have reservations and had to wait in line. We did get seated at the bar and had excellent service. We made reservations the second time we went for dinner and got seated immediately at an ocean view table. We were impressed with the view, food and service each time we were there. We would go there again when in Maui.” Nancy L., November 2021 “Tyler was fantastic! He took great care of us on our honeymoon. Food was amazing too. The Hawaiian eggs Benedict was delicious. Hands down would come here again.” Jake L., November 2021 “I prefer this place for breakfast than any other. Food is plentiful, affordable, and not a bunch of annoying tourists in the AM. And the staff is sooooooo nice I even made friends with one of them and told me of some good local spots.” Akemi F., October 2021 “We went to Lava Rock several times during our 5 day stay on Maui. We loved everything we ate and drank there. Our first experience was walking past a huge line for breakfast at another cafe in front of this place to sit down and be amazed with the bloody Mary’s and food at Lava Rock. You can also get $2 mimosas! The view from the balcony is great as well. Highly recommend this place while staying in Kihei!” Sunny T., September 2021 Happy Hour at Lava Rock Bar & Grill Maui is 3pm-6pm daily featuring discounted beer, cocktails, well drinks, appetizers, and burgers.

2521 vs LA LA Land and Why it Hurts so Dang Much
I was trying to figure out why the ending of 2521 hurt like an absolute semi-truck to the face when La La Land (LLL), which has a similar narrative, is one of my favorite movies. It wasn’t that they didn’t get together that was causing the absolute sob-fest into my bowl of cereal, because there are many other movies, shows, or dramas where that is the case and it seems like the perfect ending.
So why does 2521 hurt so dang much?
If we compare the two stories of LLL and 2521 I think it shows us something very interesting. Both LLL and 2521 share the narrative of a couple being together, but ultimately letting go of their relationship because circumstance and the desire to pursue their dreams supersedes the functionality of their relationship. So why did one ending make me cry tears of joy and the other absolutely broke my heart when they were so similar in nature?
I also want to preface this by saying 2521 is INCREDIBLY well written and as a writer and a somebody with a psychology degree focused on marriage counseling, I cannot get over how healthy and beautifully written the relationship between Baek Yi-Jin and Na Hee Do is. Books upon books could be written on how well their dynamic was set up through the lens of a psychologically healthy relationship and we can only hope more stories follow their lead.
But the reason why one story ending hurts so much more than another when they’re so similar in nature lies in the difference between LLL and 2521’s story structure and the perspective used on the relationship. Mia and Seb in LLL are a fully completed Jenga puzzle that slowly gets torn down, while Yi-Jin and Hee Do were two piles of Jenga bricks that slowly got put together. Let me explain.
Tumblr media
For Mia and Seb in LLL, their relationship is presented to us very early on as a fully completed Jenga puzzle. Within the first act of the story we see them jump from awkward strangers to two people in love, living together, and passing their first or second anniversary. The entire development of their relationship is shown in one quick montage and the audience is immediately thrown into the deep end of their relationship. It’s one big “plop” and the entire Jenga tower that is their relationship is presented to us right out of the gate. Then, the story becomes about how that Jenga tower is slowly torn down. Seb takes a job where he works crazy hours? A few bricks are pulled from the tower. Seb feels Mia isn’t supportive of his career? A few more bricks are pulled from the tower. Seb misses Mia’s play? A few more bricks are pulled from the tower. Mia considers taking a job in Paris? A few more bricks are pulled from the tower. By the climax of the film, their relationship Jenga tower is just a skeleton of what it was at the beginning. It had been slowly worn down by time, circumstance, and questionable choices that left it structurally unsound, until eventually they decide to knock over whatever remaining tower is left and go their separate ways. The viewpoint of their relationship is one that starts off completed, and then slowly degrades.
Tumblr media
In comparison...
Tumblr media
The viewpoint of Yi-Jin and Hee Do is the complete opposite. We start off with two separate piles of bricks, and the story revolves around us slowly watching them build that Jenga tower up. Hee Do tells Yi-Jin they can be happy together in secret? A few bricks of the foundation are laid down. Hee Do and Yi-Jin listen to each others messages for support while they’re away? A few more bricks are laid down. Yi-Jin protects Hee Do from his scary coworker during the documentary? A few more bricks are laid down. Hee Do provides a safe place for Yi-Jin to be happy? A few more bricks are laid down. Yi-Jin defends Hee Do by interviewing the ref? A few more bricks are laid down. Hee Do supports Yi-Jin in the tunnel? More bricks. Yi-Jin supports Hee Do in her fencing tournaments? More bricks. Then more bricks. Then more.
Tumblr media
The course of the whole show is watching these two as their relationship is slowly built up over time, in the third act eventually reaching the place where they become a couple and their Jenga tower is finally “complete”; only for us to then watch it get knocked down in the duration of two episodes. With Seb and Mia we were presented with a completed tower that we watched slowly degraded over time. With Yi-Jin and Hee Do we were with them as they fought to build their tower in the first place. We were with them from the very beginning and we hand our hands on every brick as it was being laid down.
Tumblr media
Focusing solely on the aspect of their relationship, (as this story isn’t just about first love), this show was about building. It was about them growing together, about learning more about each other, supporting each other against all odds, leaning on each other more, feeling deeper emotions towards each other, sharing bigger burdens together. They started off as strangers, and we were with them every step of the way as they grew closer and closer – slowly and beautifully building towards something. Only for, at the 11th hour, all that hard work to be quickly knocked down. With an added confusion of us holding on to extra bricks that we never even found a place for. (Who is Mr. Kim? Why is her woodwork shop called 2521? Where is Yi-Jin in 2021?)
The second comparison for why it hurts so much is the payoff. When Mia and Seb part at the end of their story, we see that their relationship was fundamental in them reaching their dreams. It salves the wound because even though they’re not together, their relationship served a greater purpose and they both reached their dreams. Mia becomes and actress and Seb gets his jazz club, and it’s clear that if they had never met they probably wouldn’t have ever made it there. Their dreams and their goals were set up at the very beginning and we see them become a reality when they meet again at the nightclub later in life. And it’s pointed and clear that they needed that relationship together in order to achieve those goals. We see this by how Sebastian names his club “Seb’s” and uses the exact design that Mia gave him. We realize in that moment that Mia was instrumental to him reaching his goal, and that their relationship served a purpose even if it didn’t work out. Same with Mia being an actress, if it hadn’t been for Seb driving to her house and encouraging her to do one last audition, she might not ever have come back and gotten the role. As an audience member we can walk away knowing that their relationship served a greater good.
In addition, we actually get to see Mia and Seb reunite after several years and have true closure with one another. We see how the two of them view each other now, how happy they are even if they're not together. There's peace between them. It's settled. It's okay now. Unlike with the 2009 interview where Hee Do and Yi-Jin appear to have unsettled emotional conflict and desire, and no reunion in the present 2021 timeline.
Tumblr media
Peace vs unresolved conflict.
Tumblr media
With Beakdo though, it hurts so much more because it feels like we’re missing the payoff. We were working towards something that eventually ended and the consolation is that life is hard and nothing lasts forever, that adulthood sucks and love will never last.
Basically just -
Tumblr media
I was waiting for the reason why. Why did Min-Chae even read the diary in the first place? What was the point?
I thought that we might have gotten a Definitely, Maybe situation where the father is telling his daughter about how he met her mother, only for the daughter to figure out midway that her mother wasn’t the person her father should have ended up with, and she encourages her father to go after the one he really did love. But we don’t get that either? Or a Mamma Mia situation where the daughter reads her moms diary and brigns the guy her mom loved back into her life? But...no. Nothing.
In the present day there was no payoff or reason why Min-Chae was reading this story or what she was supposed to learn or take away from this.
We watched the beautiful building of a relationship that ended…but why?
Tumblr media
Knocking over a Jenga tower that had already been sitting on the kitchen table is one thing, but if you were the one that sat there, slowly putting it together brick by brick, it’s going to hurt a lot more if somebody comes up to you and knocks it over just moments after you complete it. And knocking over a Jenga tower so that you can use the space on the table for a bowl of ice cream is one thing. But knocking over a Jenga tower so it can be replaced with a stack of HR forms and W2’s is something else entirely.
In the end, I guess 2521 is a beautiful and powerful story about youth and memory and the painful reality of life and adulthood. It's a commentary on growing up and all the challenges that entails, not a fantasy to escape in. The fact the Yi-Jin’s computer has a security question asking, “Who is your first love”, I think is a painful but accurate representation of something that is so common to the human experience. We all have a first love that we had to let go. And this story took us through the entire experience of that. While Mia and Seb’s story gives us a bit of a crutch by skipping the majority of the building of their relationship, only for us to walk next to them during it’s eventual downfall, we get to experience the rise and building of Yi-Jin and Hee Do’s relationship from it’s conception. And while Mia and Seb offer a consolation and a purpose for the loss, Beakdo doesn’t really give us that.
Tumblr media
And that’s why it hurts so dang much when it eventually ended. Their relationship and story is realistic. It’s life. Life is hard and life can hurt, and sometimes there isn't a resolution or an answer no matter how badly we want it.
Does that make the ending any better? That's up to you to decide. But I hope this helps for anybody that was struggling with why the ending was hitting so hard.

Question for you - I didn’t watch 2521 but followed along via gifs. Would you be able to post a semi-spoilery recap of what the ending was? Thanks!!!
Sure, Anon, spoiler recap below the cut
So, Yi Jin and Hee Do start dating. Things seem to be going well over the year they date although because he's a reporter (he's moved from sports to the news desk), he keeps getting called away on assignments and being late to dates or missing important events.
One of these events is their 600 day anniversary trip which Hee Do goes on alone while Yi Jin gets called to New York to cover 9/11. He ends up staying there to cover the story and it's very traumatic for him. Yi Jin chooses not to confide in Hee Do how difficult it is and this is what begins to crack their relationship.
Yi Jin accepts an international correspondent assignment in New York so he's going to move there. He returns to Korea (again, failing to keep promises of returning) to basically pack up. Hee Do and Yi Jin have a very emotional discussion about the fact that they don't understand each other and decide that it's not going to work.
After the big fight, they end up having a sweet, heartbreaking goodbye.
We fast forward to 7 years later. Seung Wan is working in tv on a variety show. Yu Rim is back in Korea, retired from fencing and opened her own fencing studio. Ji Woong is running a website selling fashion. Yu Rim and Ji Woong are still together.
Yi Jin gets the anchor job for the news when Yi Jin's mom retires and he moves back from New York.
Hee Do is married (we never see the husband) and decides to retire from fencing.
Hee Do and Yi Jin see each other when she wins a gold medal and he interviews her. They obviously are glad to see each other although it's bittersweet.
We move to the present and there's a storyline about her losing her diary in which she wrote to Yi Jin words that she wanted to say to him the day they had their break up fight. The diary was delivered to Yi Jin just after they broke up and he read her entry. He then wrote to her a really nice message about how she made his life better.
The diary is delivered 7 years too late by the owner of the bookstore where Yi Jin worked. He'd put it away and forgotten to delivery it when Yi Jin gave it to him years ago.
In the end, we see grown up Hee Do go to the tunnel where they broke up (and a lot of things happened to them in that tunnel) and she remembers the words from the diary.
An end credits scene shows modern Yi Jin trying to retrieve a password from a website and the password recovery question is 'who is your first love' and, of course, he types in Hee Do.
I don't view that as an open ending, but based on the fact that we never see or hear about her husband in the present, I think he's either dead or they're divorced. There's always a possibility that Hee Do and Yi Jin could reunite but I don't think so as Hee Do still resents all the time her mother was away from her because of her job as a reporter and she'd have to deal with that with Yi Jin.
So, that's a very abbreviated version of the ending. Which, honestly, I liked. I think it fit very well with the tone and nature of the show.
Hope that helps!

Svein’s Event Bio
2022
Svein finds out about the premonition and all the people who received it.
Svein couldn't believe its authenticity, so his investigation leads him to Egypt.
Svein kills an Egyptian witch and steals an ancient book which contains one spell that could penetrate through space and time.
Unsuccessful attempts forced him to move back to Krovs after years of trying.
2030
Svein meets up with another vampire/witch(es) and they successfully perform the spell, proving the authenticity of the premonition.
Svein keeps the book with him, but it will slowly consume some of his life force and he will have streaks of white hair as a side effect.
Svein claims his first slave.
He becomes Marcus's lover.
Svein starts his search of cure for vampirism as a backup plan.
2101
Svein ties the knot with Marcus.
Remus finally gives him his freedom.
He goes to India, and travels the Asia in search of a cure.
2252
Goes back to Krovs as duty calls.
He feels the weakness experienced by other vampires.
He defends the castle but sees himself losing faith in vampires and finds himself questioning his loyalty.
2301
Svein starts making secret deals with the wolves, in exchange for helping him find a cure.
Svein finds a group of witches, who are descendants of the people he killed in his village. He was held hostage for years and learned their ways.
He escapes the witches but promises to come back, now with a defined loyalty.
2370
Svein secretly helps the wolves and witches to take over Krovs Town but fails.
Svein was tried by the council as a traitor and sentenced to death and escapes back to the coven.
He embraces a simple life without a title and reconnects back to his roots and atones for his sins.
2400
Svein feels his vampire part weakened making his witch part more prominent.
Svein continues his search for the cure
2471
His coven was approached by other covens and asked to join the war.
They find out that Svein is a vampire hybrid and attempt to kill him, but he pledges loyalty to the witches. To make sure, they cast a spell to him that should he betray them, he will die a painful death.
2492
The war was finally won, and the slaves were liberated. As someone who proved his loyalty to the witches, he was pardoned and given freedom.
He opens a small shop potion shop on Omyakon Village.
2493
The business was successful after three years and with enough money, he moves back to the castle as a master.
He claims Sanson as his slave.
2521
The hatred for vampires grows again as the rumors of the First Vampire still alive spreads.
Svein is tried for his previous crimes as a vampire and is sentenced to lifetime imprisonment.
2522
30th Anniversary of the third war and he finally escaped with the help of a witch who believed they deserved a second chance.
Along with the rest of the vampire survivors and Sanson on his side, he used the magic spell he learned from the Egyptian ancient book and they performed the spell to send premonitions to others and his past self. He called his name, "Svein! Svein! Svein!" on the process.

WAT CHAIYO VORA VIHAN is situated at Chaiyo District, Angthong Province. This temple was built in the Kingdom of Ayutthaya, and later in between BE 2400 to BE 2409 Somdej Pra Buddhachan Toh made a very large Buddha statue in Mara Vichai Gesture, the villagers called it “Luang Phor Toh” which means “huge Buddha statue”. The Luang Phor Toh was made from brick and coated with white plaster cement, and the statue was in an open area without a roof. This area is a birth place of his mother, “Ket”. As customs and cultural beliefs, Somdej Pra Buddhachan Toh made a Batch of Buddha amulets storing inside the body of Luang Phor Toh in memory and on the merit of his mother.
In BE 2430, Lord Rattanabordintorn (Rod Kanlayanamit) was appointed by King Rama V of Bangkok to the master of the restoration project of Wat Chaiyo. Lord Rattanabordintorn decided to make temple building to cover Luang Phor Toh, and the foundation work had destroyed Luang Phor Toh to crumble to the ground, and “Pra Somdej Ket Chaiyo” amulets hidden in a chamber in the body of Luang Phor Toh spilled onto the ground, the villagers there picked them up and kept them for themselves, but thousands of the amulets were given to Luang Ta Rod, the Abbot of Wat Pho Griiap, Angthong Province and Luang Ta Rod stored them inside a small stupa/chedi at Wat Pho Griiap. After the completion of the restoration work, and Luang Phor Toh, the Principle Buddha Statue of Wat Chaiyo was restored, coated with black lacquer, and patched with gold foils, the new name was given by the King Rama V to “Pra Maha Buddha Pim” , and the temple was Given a new name to Wat Chaiyo Vora Vihan (Ket Chaiyo). At the same time, Lord Rattanabordin (Boonrod) ordered the villagers to bring back Pra Somdej Ket Chaiyo amulets, and put them back inside the body of Pra Maha Buddha Pim, but allowed each villager to keep only few amulets. Those amulets were put back in the chamber inside the chest of “Pra Maha Buddha Pim”. Later in the year BE 2502 (CE 1959), Pra Somdej Ket Chaiyo that Luang Ta Rod stored inside a small stupa/chedi at Wat Pho Griiap was robbed, and the chamber inside the small stupa/chedi was empty.
BEFORE BE 2500 (CE 1957), the batch of Pra Somdej Ket Chaiyo was found inside Pra Maha Buddha Pim together with small numbers of Pra Somdej Wat Rakang made by Somdej Pra Buddhachan Toh, but the historians could not confirm that Pra Somdej Ket Chaiyo amulets were truly made by Somdej Toh. However, the batch of Pra Somdej Ket Chaiyo amulets was authenticated its provenance later in the year BE 2500 (CE 1957) after the chamber of stupa/chedi of Wat Mai Amataros (Wat Bang Khun Prom) was opened and the small quantity of Pra Somdej Ket Chaiyo amulets were also stored inside the chamber with Pra Somdej Bang Khun Prom amulets made by Somdej Pra Buddhachan Toh.

FASTING BUDDHA
After reaching enlightenment at Bodhgaya, Buddha meditated and fasted for forty-nine days. Thus, showing him as an emaciated renouncer relates to his enlightenment and his status as a yogic ascetic who has ultimate control over his body). In Buddhism, fasting is considered a method of purification. Fasting in Buddhism is to develop control of one’s attachments so the mind can be freed to develop higher awareness. Also fasting can be done so that one restricts from a pleasure (food) and dedicate it to someone sick, in need or dying. Basically to restrict one’s body from the normal food intake is to develop discipline, awareness, self-control and even appreciation for all one has.

Happy Weekend to HKers!
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
********************************
Tumblr media
Tabata Training~
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
