21/08 to 26/08
this week was absolutely riddikolous. i slept less than 48 hrs the previous week so this week my brain decided to just... shut down and sleep so thats what i did. i got barely 4 hrs of studying done everyday except yesterday and thats because i had a test this morning.
ofcourse me being the dumbass i am didnt record everything so it aint reflected in the graph above and this app doesnt even have the option of manually adding records so imma considering taking up another app
the test went well tbh, i completed it within 30 minutes and spent the rest of the time staring into space ignoring my terrible headache and talking to the physics teacher who for some reason judged my calculations as i did them by hovering behind me
what all did i do this week? well
physics- magnetism and matter- catalyst solved
physics- electromagnetic induction- some questions
physics- magnetism and matter- module read
chemistry- group 15 notes
chemistry- group 15, 16, 17, 18- ncert level
chemistry- group 15 and 16- questions solved
chemistry- metallurgy- ncert level + notes
botany- read molecular basis of inhertiance from ncert and module

Capturing Today
How did I take care of myself today?
Went to church, Spent 1 hr outside, napped for 30 minutes, no big chores + just relaxed (as much as possible with kids). Went to bed early to recoup lost sleep from previous night.
My favorite moment of the day:
Watching new movie with the kids and everyone laughing together. Josh stroking my hair while we hugged in the kitchen once he got home from work.
Some challenging moments:
incredibly tired and grumpy in the AM from a sleepless night and early wake-up.
Response to those challenges:
Prioritized nap time right after church and are sure to go to sleep before midnight.
Something(s) I’m grateful for:
A beautiful sermon by a humble, relatable pastor who admit-ably doesn’t have all the answers to the tough questions I have too. My children being best buddies and able to play with one another well. My grandma being relocated to a better facility.
Summarize today in one word:
Rest
Imagining Tomorrow
My intention tomorrow is:
New gym class (barbell) + Family Time
It’s important to me because:
Be fit/healthy, spend quality time as family unit since Josh worked all weekend.
How will I embody it?
Go to the gym and give maximum effort, block out time in our afternoon/evening to let kids pick what they want to do for family time.

25/30 dop~ 15/7/22 ( late post)
Today was a shitty day. ok well not completely but hear me out. first half of skl was ok and the second half, Jack in the box came out so obvi I was hyped up( equal sign<<<<). I came home and practically did nothing for an hour except for attending a class. I had too much shit to do and I felt rlly overwhelmed and anxious. With my exams in less than 10days and the debate being on mon ,I was just feeling lost and my mental health was deteriorating.(idk if that makes sense) Ig I just needed a breather. As if my day wasn't already getting worse, one of my debate mates texted and said that they CHANGED THE TOPIC. Like excuse me? Aren't u like supposed to ask my opinion too and wdym u just changed the topic without asking me? I spent 5+hrs researching and reading endless number of articles and was almost done with it and u dare to text me and say u guys changed it? Like u could've atleast told me that when we were in skl. I wasn't angry that they changed the topic it was just they've could've asked me if I was okay with changing it and like they just changed it just like that, as if I'm not a part of the team•_•

Bcoz of this chaos, I totally forgot that I had to pick up my anxiety meds from my doc, so I had to rush tot he clinic 20mins before they closed to get em. Just revised some phy and did olevel past Yr qs and researched for the debate. I could've not given a fuck abt the debate and should've prioritised studying for exams but I had to get extra credits:[

Today was a much better day. I surprisingly woke up around 630 without my alarm and went on morn run. The weather was rlly chilly and calm. I did a deep study session for 3hrs after. Did a whole lot of physics and practiced Ray diagrams, since that's my weakest link. Had a grp call with debate mates to discuss and finalise the speakers for the debate. We're doing it in British parliament style this time ,which none of us has ever done before so we're all a bit nervous( mostly me lol) I also watched some debates that was on the topic we had and got some rlly good arguments and counterpoints. So that was it for the debate. Went for dance class later and we learnt this new piece which was sm different than the other pieces we've learnt. It's a fusion of various types of dance forms and we're gonna perform it in a upcoming event so I'm rlly excited for that!( atleast I have one thing I can look forward to after exams lmao). Came back home and did some qs on polygons and mensuration. I'm also done with her last mistake, this was the first book I've read in the Gina Harte series and I loved it. I might even check some of her other books too.

Something sad happened to me, almost 6 months ago, which still cuts today as it did on the 18th December 2023. My father passed away. His name was Alan Perry.
A friend of his Peter Thabit, asked me to write a few pages about his life for a poetry publication - the following is my attempt to put into words:
Alan Perry, son of Griff and Edna, retired Art teacher, writer, poet and extraordinary artist, but also Husband, Dad and friend to many he knew. To me, my father’s life was an enigma, he saw things others cannot, he uniquely expressed himself via poetry, writing, sculpture, photography and art. I am not going to try to outline his work or his creative processes, the artwork and the books and publications should speak for themselves. I am not going to write about the missing stories about his time as an aspiring art student in Swansea art college where he made lifelong friends and where he met the love of his life and future wife, my mother Jean. Or of his job as a comprehensive school Art teacher, inspiring kids in both Penlan and Morriston. Instead, I am going to write about the man I knew as my Dad. If I am honest, my Dad was just a sweet intelligent boy who grew up in Swansea surrounded by friends and family. He had a loyalty and love of family that kept him in Swansea. His mother wanted him to attend Oxford University, and as many of his accolades show he could well have been capable of going to Oxford and leading a different life. I don’t think he ever regretted not leaving.
He grew up in Post War Swansea, attending Bishop Gore Gramma School. Once he told me, of care free times he played cowboys and Indians with his brother ‘Andrew’ in Singleton Park and on the sand dunes between the Cenotaph and Black Pill. Although things were not all plain sailing, he got into trouble by putting a fake message in a bottle, after being inspired after reading Robinson Crusoe, he launched it off Swansea sands near Black Pill, only to be found out and after the emergency services spent time and resources on a fruitless search. I remember him telling me of the time when his Spanish teacher predicted he would fail his Spanish exam, but as with most things in his life he proved him wrong by passing with an ‘A’. I think this recollection may have been more to set an example for my attitude to education. A pitfall of having both parents as Teachers, high standards are always expected, but I digress. Dad had a wonderful sense of humour, we would watch many comedies on TV together, Monty Pythons flying circus to the Young Ones to ‘Laurel and Hardy films or Father Ted. He had an infectious laugh, if you were upset and annoyed you couldn’t stay that way for long once he had that silly grin on his face.
He was also very competitive, trying to beat me at chess and snooker or running, he always had that glint in his eye if he thought he could win. One time my Dad was asked to play soccer with his teacher colleagues, but he was overweight and out of condition, mainly through inactivity and he had struggled to play. Dad being Dad, his competitiveness streak spurred him to change. So much so, I must have been about 9 or 10 at the time, he took me and my brother our Labrador cross ‘Gypsy’ down to the ‘slip’ on Swansea front, where he attempted to run along the promenade. We were laughing because both my brother and I were able to run longer and faster than our Dad. But unphased that was the beginning of my Dad’s running career. He trained every single day, taking Gypsy and running, come rain or shine. He lost so much weight to the extent none of his suits that he used to wear to school would fit him. As a teenager I would run 3 miles with him some evenings, but my Dad had gotten so fit he would leave me for dust the last 400 yards as we raced to the bottom of Constitution Hill.
And by the age of 40, he had run the London Marathon – 26 Miles in the impressive time of 3 hrs and 14 minutes. I was 44 when I completed the London half marathon in the same time, bringing home the reality of how fast my Dad had run the full race, twice the distance in a faster time. And although Gypsy eventually could not keep up with him and sadly passed away, my Dad continued to run most days well into his 60’s, he would jog along the sea front or run his usual 3 mile loop.
Snooker was another of his sporting loves, always watching Pot Black and eventually the World Snooker Championships at the Crucible in Sheffield. One Christmas I remember getting a 5ft snooker table, and the hours of fun we spent, trying to become the next Welsh Champion to replace Terry Griffiths. Over 20 years he played his best friend JM in a running snooker tournament. He wrote this poem to commemorate their partnership:
In the Green Baize For John Davies
The kids all back at school, these days we have the top floor to ourselves...
No horseplay, no high-jinx, no boisterous talk - no sound at all but the click of balls, the scratch of chalk.
We can hear ourselves breathe. We can hear ourselves soundlessly walk from pocket to pocket...
Twenty-five years - and less than a score of frames between us! Yet we haven’t improved one jot - except now we botch our shots and fiddle the scoreboard with far more finesse.
Sometimes we argue. Sometimes we joke. Sometimes we curse our luck or pull off a miracle stroke.
Sometimes it feels like we’re stranded in space - two minor deities, two unranked Sysiphuses - sending these colourful spheres on their fruitless errands, not permitted a rest or a break until we’ve exhausted every possible configuration.
Sometimes we snooker ourselves and sometimes each other. Sometimes we play the percentages game and sometimes go for the pot. And sometimes, as one lines up a shot, the other, grown bored, looks beyond the rectangle of light to the back of the hall, where tabletops lie motionless and mute ranged in their dark like slabs
The stillness there is monolithic, absolute.
He was also a passionate Welsh Rugby fan stemming from his days of playing for the Bishop Gore School rugby team, many a time I would get a photo of him proudly wearing a Welsh Jersey and holding a leek on the start of the six nations.
Whenever I needed something or some help he would drop everything. I remember when we bought our first house in Kingston upon Thames (a very small mid-terrace two bedroom working men’s cottage from the 1880’s) and were having a new kitchen installed. Cecile and I both had work commitments and Dad stepped in and offered to look after the Plumber installing a new sink and washing machine. At 12pm I got a phone call from my father apologising that due to a spate with the Plumber, the Plumber had walked off the job. When I asked what happened, he explained that the Plumber had been complaining about the small space he had to work in, all morning, and that the Plumber’s language was very colourful every other word was F’ing this F’ing that, swearing about everything, but mainly about the small area he had to work in. Finally, it came to a head when the Plumber turned to my father and asked if he had a drill bit, he had not brought with him to complete the job. My father is normally a patient man, it takes a lot to push my father’s buttons, but on this occasion, he turned to the Plumber and replied, ‘No, he did not have a spare fucking drill bit, any fucking Plumber worth his salt would come prepared for every fucking eventuality and would carry the correct fucking toolbit in his tool box in the first place.’ The Plumber was take aback, he said ‘ you can’t swear at me like that’, my father said ‘ you have been F’ing and blinding and complaining ever since first thing this morning, I am just talking back to you the way you have been speaking out loud. And that was that, the Plumber turned face, packed his tools and left the job unfinished. And that was my Dad, he rang me sheepishly to tell me what he did, and I could not hold it against him, he did what he thought was right, he was acting in our best interests as always. We eventually got the kitchen installed, by the same company just a different Plumber who could not believe my father had upset his workmate so much. Afterwards my Dad, Cecile and I laughed about the whole thing as we celebrated over a meal, finally getting a new Kitchen.
Another hobby my Dad loved was to swim, but as an added quirk he sometimes would also go swimming in the middle of the night in the sea. Every summer we couldn’t afford holiday’s abroad, so most summers would be spent in a tent on a campsite down Llangennith or in a rented caravan down Burry Holmes. We would sit by the gas light whilst my father took an evening swim with only the stars and moon for light. It inspired many of his night swimmer paintings and also his Solo Exhibition at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery in Swansea in 1993 titles Shards.
The hours he spent working for charity after he had retired and the hours of interviews, he undertook remarkable stories from the down and outs and homeless for his book ‘Music you do not normally hear’, the proceeds all donated to charity for the homeless. Or the amount of time he devoted to editing and organizing poetry readings for ‘Cheval’ and ‘When young Dodo’s meet young Dragon’s’ giving back to young writers and developing young talent in Wales. I wish I had taken more note and paid attention.
Was he selfish with his time he spent with his family, dedicating hours to art and writing, some could say yes, but no he was always there for us.
So in summation, there is no summation, my Dad lived a full life, I wish it had been longer. Living in Texas meant that we only met up a few times a year, we had weekly phone calls, but I always believed that I would return and we could spend more time together. His health had progressively deteriorated over the last couple of years. My Dad, was sometimes very unhappy and depressed when his both his parents and Brother eventually passed away, he was the last of his family and this affected him deeply. Last year, I visited him just over a month before he died, with the intention of trying to get to the bottom of his health issues and to try to ensure that he had support if he needed help. But due to certain circumstances that was not to be, however, I did manage to spend some quality time with him, which I shall cherish. My Dad was a lifelong Dylan Thomas admirer, and much as I would like to think my father fought against his passing like Dylan’s poem ‘Do not go Gently into that Good Night’, he slipped away quietly. Hopefully to be with the Father, Mother and Brother he missed so much.
It has been hard reminiscing, many a tear shed remembering all the good times, maybe I will try to write some more fond memories, It should get easier, and the last thing my Dad would want is to be sad for his passing. Adieu, until the next time we meet.

Ireland Software Development Market Drivers
• Setting business across Ireland
In October 2020, IDA Ireland and Leo Varadkar TD, the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, announced the creation of 206 jobs across seven high-growth enterprises from Europe and the United States in Dublin, Kildare, Sligo, and Cork. Another recent development saw cloud solutions vendor Genesys announced plans to create 100 software engineering roles over the course of the year, largely at its Galway offices – but some would be remote positions as well. Additionally, before the end of 2021, Genesys will shift to larger headquarters in the Bonham Quay development. These announcements show that the software industry isn't just centred in Dublin and there are plenty of firms all around the country.
• Expansion Plans
Even in the midst of the pandemic, software companies continue to launch in Ireland. For example, on January 26, 2021, HR software supplier Personio announced intentions to more than fivefold its personnel in Dublin by the end of the year; the company sees this facility as its international business and software engineering centre. Personio's Dublin office began in April of last year and has already grown to 40 employees. The decision to open their fourth office in Dublin was easy because of the city's business-friendly environment and reputation as a well-established international talent hub – one that has already helped many successful tech companies better serve the European market, according to Hanno Renner, co-founder and CEO of Personio. Stripe which has around 300 employees in Ireland, has announced in Oct 2020 that they are moving their payment processing for European customers to Ireland from the UK. In April, 2022 the U.S., based Remitly Global Inc has announced strategic expansion plans to create around 120 jobs, bringing the total to 230 employees. Another US company NS1 also announced plans to establish operations in Ireland, by hiring around 30 employees.
Ireland Software Development Market Challenges
• Data and the Security Concerns that come up with it
Cybercrime against large corporations is on the rise, and it frequently results in high-profile brand damage. This makes IT sector nervous because management is worried about their company's data and how to protect it. It's one thing for employees to bring their own device to work; it's quite another to share commercially sensitive material via file-sharing networks. People increasingly use social media for work on a regular basis. For file sharing and storage, 36% use Facebook, 26% use Twitter, and nearly one-fifth use Dropbox or a comparable software. Employees are likely to desire to use these services because it is simple to use and efficient. However, IT sector must ensure that the integrity of company and consumer data is preserved. Factors like these are some of the major challenges that are restraining the growth of the underlying market.

The new territories have five cities that are encapsulated we estimate they'll be evacuated by the end of the day and they will flow out and we are putting up a wall now we put up a wall last night

If you turn 30 in 5 years or less, I need you to understand something.
Tumblr media
My best friend, who's 26 and a self-started small business entrepreneur now, told me her deepest wish & biggest dream was being on the Forbes 30 under 30 List.
Like a best friend, I hyped her up & told her it was inevitable - she'd definitely get there.
But then we marinated on the truth that she only has a few years left (now even less) to make it happen ... It looked too difficult.
In response, I assured her there's enough time because I didn't know what else to say. I didn't have the words that I should've used at that time, until today when I came across a stupid LinkedIn post which brought back the memory.
The post was from your stock footage old HR recruiter complaining about Gen-Z's tendency to prioritise all the wrong things. Yes, cue the eye rolls already.
She talked about how buying an iPhone for 1L is okay for us but using that as capital to start our own business feels too risky.
How we always complain about salads being expensive but going on a dinner date is okay.
How enrolling for a 3L course to upskill feels too costly but we're cool with spending that amount on traveling/vacations.
I usually just scroll past by, because I can't take LinkedIn less seriously nowadays - it's become Facebook at this point - but in this case I wrote back in the comments.
See, I did go on a fancy dinner date last month! *wink wink*
Omg this was my first one EVER. I'm turning 25 soon and I've never done something like it because I was always studious in school & then prioritised my career right from day uno of my first job, so I always told my friends that I find getting into a relationship something bored people do - I said dating is for kids & I'll look out for someone once I'm well settled.
But I was lying to myself. Of course I wanted to know & be with someone - emotionally & physically, too. Of course my body understands attractions & has certain needs, and my mind craves companionship from time to time.
So I did follow through with my Bumble match & we had sat down at a fancy café named Poetry in Powai - and we talked for 3 goddamn hours nonstop. I've become very health conscious but that day, the person's presence loosened me up & I had fried junk food & TOTALLY LOVED IT.
In passing, they said the most beautiful thing anyone has ever told me - they said they could watch time passing by as the Sun set outside the window but they let it go because they were so lost in me (and so was I in them).
Someday I'll talk about my first kiss because writers gotta milk out every opportunity bwahaha but the point is that this goes against everything the God-fearing, traditional mindsetted, 20-year-old Manik believed in. If he saw the future, he'd curse me for wasting my time on irrelevant useless stuff and ask me to focus on myself.
Secondly, I've been taking myself out on solo dates on the weekends (still do now, and my partner totally understands). I fell in love with this gorgeous mall called Phoenix Palladium & I spent 3 hours walking every square meter it covers last weekend after office. In April, I'm saving up to go on a Goa trip with friends. But the agenda is the same - I no longer hustle on the weekends. I'll either sleep and do my gym sessions in between, or I'll get myself out of my room. I have fun.
Thirdly, I did buy a fancy phone too because it had a good camera. I'm very camera conscious but one of my new year resolutions was to push myself out of that awkwardness & click a selfie every day - I've maintained that streak so far.
I'm saying all of this because it feels great.
It's what I'm supposed to do when I'm 24. I'm supposed to fall in love, go on dates, be intimate & get my heart broken just to see how the hurt feels like (although dear partner if you're reading this, don't break up so soon please!).
I'm supposed to start loving & respecting my own body & realising that while being healthy & working on fitness is definitely so important, the composition of my body doesn't define how beautiful I am so it's totally ok if I give into my craving and have that pizza today.
I'm supposed to be doing goofy things. I AM SUPPOSED TO BE WASTING THIS TIME OF MY LIFE PRECISELY BECAUSE I CAN AFFORD IT. Silly shit. I'm supposed to be failing & making silly mistakes so I can learn from them & pass the lessons to the next generation.
Why. The. Fuck. Should I feel guilty about having fun & doing things that made me happy? Why should I always take life so seriously? Where has that gotten me so far?
I lost my childhood because I was always focused on growing up. My parents first, my teachers next & my friends afterward - everyone has had these unsaid expectations from me that I'll become successful in life. And I'm grateful that they believe in me. But I was talking to one of my interns & was telling her I had a wild Friday. She said that she couldn't imagine me partying & dancing because Im always so focused & serious at work.
And she wasn't exactly complimenting me. It hurt that people can't imagine Manik Rege being a party person. And I don't like that.
All my hard work has always been steamrolled with obstacles politics & failures. Life has always pushed me down on the floor & laughed as I mustered the strength to stand up again, and start from scratch. I have rebuilt myself a thousand times but now I'm done with the hustle.
I'm not giving up on my dreams & ambitions.
I'm just throwing away the sand glass that emptied itself at the mark of turning 30 years old.
Because I didn't confess this to my best friend back then but being in Forbes was my biggest dream too and not reaching there in time to qualify was my darkest fear.
I personally know people who've been featured in the Forbes list. I'm happy for them. But I felt so jealous because that was my idea of being successful too.
My idea of success, as fed to me by others, was having a well paying job and a wife and a kid and a house by 30. My idea of success was fame and money and stability and career growth.
So every time someone asked me to do something that didn't directly contribute to those holy goals, I used to back out. I didn't realise how much I was missing out on. Because I thought it was all pointless.
Almost every fourth Reel I see on IG is about some entrepreneur repeating my uncle's wisdom about how I shouldn't waste this time of my life in anything else apart from building my career.
And i respect that but I've also secretly just wanted to be a goddamn teenager for once. And do teenagey stuff.
Why did I always feel guilty about it? Why did I regret having junk food once in a while. Or trying to find someone good on dating apps. Or just not working & exploring the city. Because it didn't make me successful?
Ok you know what I'm going to list down shit that I think makes me very successful. These are my achievements in the past few years:
1. I battled a severe health crisis & basically came back from the dead. I was 108kgs, now 84kgs and the transformation gave me so much confidence. I now love the gym, look forward to trekking in the monsoon, and feel good about my own body.
2. I made peace with my parents. They're lovely & have always loved me but like any parents, they're flawed & sometimes irritating too. But we talked about our differences in opinions & perspectives & agreed to co-exist. We worked on our past trauma - stuff we never had the courage to discuss because I felt it would make me look like an ungrateful kid. But we apologised for what we know was wrong & we're slowly healing.
3. I had sex.
4. I made a few new best friends who have become the strongest support system I've ever had. We have so many beautiful mature conversations & always hype each other up so much that it looks cringey & overdramatic but we love each other painfully to shreds.
5. I lost my well-paying job abroad because of COVID & had an year long gap but I fearlessly fought my way back into the industry. I'm 3 years behind if I consider my original timeline that I used to believe in when I was 20. I don't even earn half of what my friends do. But I now have a job & am figuring out my career all over again despite have faced such a deadly blowback years back.
There are so many others but my point is that I never stopped to congratulate myself on these achievements. AND THEY ARE ACHIEVEMENTS.
Finding so much body confidence & having the courage to fall in love with yourself is an achievement. Because I know so many people who struggle with it.
Healing difficult relationships is an achievement. And being able to talk about such mature themes so openly is achievement.
Experiencing real intimacy is an achievement.
Failing in your career but not giving up is an achievement. Regardless of whether your attempts are showing results or regardless of how slow the progress is. Changing professions and following your passion or simply surviving in a job until you have a better one. It all takes balls.
Gathering the strength to make your bed in the morning when you're so sore & hurt. Or just keeping the pillows correctly. Or making yourself breakfast or cleaning your room. Or just bloody smiling when everything is going wrong in your life. Or facing your anxiety by placing your own order at Subway in person.
These look trivial but I promise you, they're very difficult for a lot of people. And for once, I just wanted to tell YOU specifically that I'm so proud of you. You're doing amazing sweety.
HAVING THE COURAGE TO LIVE & BREATHE & EXIST IS AN ACHIEVEMENT.
I want my friend to know that she'll always be the most awesome entrepreneur I know. Because she's the first friend of mine who had the balls to step out on her own.
While I hope she does get into the Forbes list, it's nowhere in my list of priorities or expectations for her or myself now.
Because I know her. I've seen her struggle. And the fact that she carried on is reason enough to say she's awesome.
I also want her to know that she was the first one to take me clubbing. And I don't want all this hustle to take that special part away from her. She's a party person. Now so am I.
And I wish for both of us to continue finding happiness in that totally unproductive space.
I want us to be happy about doing something without calculating how better it makes our lives in the future.
If watching Netflix, for example, is your sin, please do enjoy it. Reading books isn't the only way to learn. Nor should learning every day be a norm. YES, it's okay to not grow & just experience normal fun stuff.
Pursue your ambitions with all your grit but do not let anyone guilt trip, gaslight or shame you into thinking that you must constantly be at it every single day.
I have been through multiple burnouts. I have seen others burn out too. It's not pretty trust me. It's not at all worth it.
Sure your job is your survival but please treat it only as that. It is what you do to afford the life you like or want to build. It is not the definition of your worth & talent because baby that is infinite.
So you know what, screw this, I no longer care about competing. I want everyone to be successful & I'll be successful in my own way. And we'll celebrate each other.
I am done with this bullshit tutorial tution class mentality where they used to separate us into the class of smart kids & the less smart kids. I was in the smart ones but now I realise how toxic that distinction was. And those adults do it because they love watching us fight with each other. They've always made us all compete against time because they don't understand the repercussions of running too fast.
I am now realising how powerful I become when I stop trying to win myself & reach out to help others from the bottom of my heart. Let me lift you up, and I'll tell you when I need you too. Let's support each other. Let's communicate our needs & figure out how we can work together rather than fighting to one-up each other.
And let's work together on the Forbes list. If we make it, great. If one of us does, great. If we don't, great because then we can accept it means absolutely nothing.
If you're going to turn 30 in 5 years or less, understand that 30 is not the cutoff.
You are on time. You have a shitload of time left.
You are on track.
And you deserve to have fun.
30 is actually when you start growing. 30 is when you set the foundation. And so is 60 - there is no such thing as being late.
30 is only the beginning. Are you excited for it?

The Births of Abraham Lincoln and Charles Darwin, February 12, 1809

"On February 12, 1809, Abraham Lincoln was born in Kentucky. Exactly 100 years later, journalists, reformers, and scholars meeting in New York City deliberately chose the anniversary of his birth as the starting point for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
Supporters of the project included muckraking journalists Ray Stannard Baker and Ida B. Wells, and sociologist W. E. B. Du Bois, who had been a founding member of the Niagara Movement, a Black civil rights organization formed in 1905. In 1910, Du Bois would choose to leave his professorship at Atlanta University to become the NAACP’s director of publicity and research. For the next 14 years, he would edit the organization’s flagship journal The Crisis.
While The Crisis was a newspaper, a literary magazine, and a cultural showcase, its key function reflected the journalistic sensibilities of those like Baker, Wells, and especially Du Bois: it constantly called attention to atrocities, discrimination, and the ways in which the United States was not living up to its stated principles. At a time when violence and suppression were mounting against Black Americans, Du Bois and his colleagues relentlessly spread knowledge of what was happening.
That use of information to rally people to the cause of equality became a hallmark of the NAACP. It challenged racial inequality by calling popular attention to racial atrocities and demanding that officials treat people equally before the law."
"In 1944 the secretary of the NAACP’s Montgomery, Alabama, chapter, Rosa Parks, investigated the gang rape of 25-year-old Recy Taylor by six white men after two grand juries refused to indict the men despite their confessions. Parks pulled women’s organizations, labor unions, and Black rights groups together into a new “Committee for Equal Justice” to champion Mrs. Taylor’s rights."

"William English Walling is my great-grandfather. The family story about the founding of NAACP is that Walling and his wife Anna Strunsky Walling were speaking at Cooper Union in NYC about the Russian revolution. (They were committed Socialists and had spent time in Russia.) They were both to speak with my great-grandmother following to talk about the women's situation in Russia. But as I heard it when it was her turn to speak her heart was heavy with the news of the Springfield lynching and that's what she spoke about. As she was speaking she worried about how her husband would respond. After that speech Ida B Wells approached my great-grandparents and the plan for the first meeting was held. I thought it was at their Greenwich house.
Thought it would be fun to add this story. And I note, how my great grandmother's role gets overlooked. :)"
+ "
Real democracy. Lincoln's understanding of the black race was far from perfect, but he understood the evil that was slavery was consuming America's soul.
"What constitutes the bulwark of our own liberty and independence? It is not our frowning battlements, our bristling sea coasts, the guns of our war steamers, or the strength our gallant and disciplined army? These are not our reliance against a resumption of tyranny in our fair land. All of those may be turned against our liberties, without making us weaker or stronger for the struggle. Our reliance is in the love of liberty which God has planted in our bosoms. Our defense is in the preservation of the spirit which prizes liberty as the heritage of all men, in all lands, everywhere. Destroy this spirit, and you have planted the seeds of despotism around your own doors. Familiarize yourselves with the chains of bondage and you are preparing your own limbs to wear them. Accustomed to trample on the rights of those around you, you have lost the genius of your own independence, and become the fit subjects of the first cunning tyrant who rises." -A.Lincoln
& "Two tenacious NAACP legal bulldogs, Thurgood Marshall and his extraordinary mentor, Charles Hamilton Houston, targeted Plessy v Ferguson, 19th century Supreme Court ruling that ‘separate but equal’ was OK for African American students. Their focus was to eliminate racial discrimination in education.
Theirs was a decades long struggle. When Houston, the first NAACP legal counsel died, Marshall succeeded him. He pursued a deliberate policy of gradually chipping away at Plessy v. Ferguson bit by bit. He won 29 of his 32 cases on racial discrimination before the Supreme Court.
His monumental triumph was the 9-0 1954 Supreme Court Brown v. Board of Education that totally overturned PvF. While implementation of this decision has been a long and tortuous path, it remains one of the truly precedent-changing rulings in Supreme Court history.
Marshall was the first Black to be appointed to the Supreme Court. He was a liberal on the Court. Following his death, after a contentious Senate hearing Clarence Thomas was named to fill the ‘Marshall seat.’ "

________________________________________________
Taggart laid still in the darkness, propped up against what           was left of a wall, slumped over her M90 as the ash continued           to fall. It had been some time since the fighting had ceased.           How long exactly was unknown to the ODST, as her helmet’s           visor had cracked, and there wasn’t exactly anyone around to           ask. Well, no one alive, that was. The disconcerting quiet pretty           much confirmed that.           Truthfully, there were many people around. Numerous Marine           and Army troopers, multiple civilians, and of course, her own           squad of ODST specialists. Yet Rebecca Taggart remained the           only living soul in sight. The rest were long gone, either killed           in combat, or crushed by collapsing skyscrapers. Bec found           herself to be one of the fortunate ‘lucky’ one, who survived it           all, and was now left to sit, surrounded by bodies, spent           ammunition, and coated in a sticky combination of ash and blood.           Injured, dazed, and not even sure if she was alive or in some           form of strange purgatory, the Sergeant waited. What for?           Well, either death, or help. Though hope for the latter was           quickly fading. Her IFF Transponder had been active since           the night the glassing started, but with such heavy interference,           she was not exactly optimistic a signal would get through. Now,           she had to contend with the idea that she had been left behind           altogether. Frankly, she didn’t blame them. The rest of her squad           was dead, and soon she would be too, as the heavy footsteps           approaching her position loudened even further.            The weary Helljumper barely moved to ready herself, instead           grasping her shotgun with one hand, and dragging it across her           body to an uneasy firing position. The weapon clattered against           her armor as she did so. Her strength had very much faded, but           she was going to try her best to get one last good swing in. Through           the ash she croaked what she believed would be her final words,           voice hoarse and dry, but containing what could very well be the           absolute last of her resolve to fight to the end.           “Bring it on split-chin.”

Some tips on eating as a poor person that aren't "live on dry beans and rice that take time and effort to make"
Food Banks Exist For YOU!! I don't need one anymore but am so thankful for them. You may hesitate to go to them bc you don't think you need it as badly as others... but from someone who spent years with their dad going to several, the food is there and they want to help. It isn't embarrassing; the people who volunteer are doing it for a reason, and ime treat you as a shopper, not a charity case. There are sites to find food banks. If you go to one, they usually have pamphlets for all the ones in the area. We never had to prove income or anything like that. They want to help, I promise.
If there's a local farmer's market, check to see if they have a subsidy program for people on food stamps. Another thing my dad and I used. At two separate markets 5 hrs apart, both had a program where you could DOUBLE your food stamp money in farmer's market coupons. Healthy, fresh, local, ethically raised food for less than the grocery store
If you go to a store more than once in a blue moon get the discount/membership/whatever card. It's usually super easy and almost always saves you a LOT of money
When in a supermarket, look at price per ounce if comparing items. Do not look at total price vs visual package size. Companies are experts at packing less and less food into larger packages. Grocery stores with a price per oz on the tags are so so helpful, but if they don't, sometimes it honestly makes a difference to use your phone calculator
CHECK IF YOU HAVE AN ALDI IN YOUR AREA. They sell actual seriously good, usually healthy food way cheaper than crappy stuff at other stores. This is for a lot of reasons I won't get into. But, it's also just a more ethical system for their workers, who make well above minimum wage. Aldi is Life. Tip: if you don't have reusable bags, keep an eye out for empty boxes as you shop. They don't bag anything for you.
BIG LOTS or other similar clearance/discount stores. They get an ever-changing stock of things at deep discounts. Lots of nice luxury and/or healthy groceries at half price as well as your normal staples. Also my go-to for home items and pet supplies
Shop Sales. This one is obvious to some but others just aren't in the habit. I almost exclusively buy things on sales where I save at least 1/3, usually 1/2. You can have a fully stocked pantry and freezer and spend half as much as if you only buy things when you want to eat that particular thing. It does mean less fresh food, but y'know. Just develop a laser eye for a sale tag and know where the clearance section is. Second nature to people who grew up poor but I was amazed shopping with college friends who bought full price name brand food and had trouble paying rent
I haven't done this but my brother swears by it. He went in with a few friends on a communal Costco membership. Could also do this with Sam's Club. They shop together, and then split bulk items if there's a great deal on something one person couldn't eat on their own. Bulk is the way to go if you can find a way to have the up-front cash. Impossible for many which is why the communal thing is so genius!
If this helps even one person it was worth writing out! I've realized last year, I learned a Lot growing up under the poverty line. It doesn't just appear in your brain when you're 22 and can't pay your bills for the first time.
Please feel free to add other tips if you have them. Just don't shame people for eating what they choose to eat like those "vegan dollar cookbooks" or whatever.

1. Went to office and had a small orientation session with the business head
2. Worked on the video for their LinkedIn acc.. spent several hrs on it 💀 made it in orange n black n the combination was just 🔥 but the company's logo is in blue so had to change it but still looks good.. n then showed it to the Business Head as well as the CEO andddd they like it n appreciated it 🎉🎉🎉
3. Also made severalllllll creatives/flyers for tomorrow's celebratory lunch party (which I later found out is a party) so had to later change it n make it more "funky" 🤣
After all of this had half n hr free with no work but was too drained to do my business work sooo didn't 😶‍🌫️

Mahabaleshwar is a famous hill station in the Satara district of Maharashtra. Situated in the Western Ghats, this place is one of the most beautiful hill stations in the world. It is one of few evergreen forests of India, which remains green throughout the whole year. In 1828, it was established as sanatorium and health resort. The word Mahableshwar has been derived from Sanskrit word meaning ‘God of Great Power’ (Lord Shiva). was originally named Malcolmpeth in the honour of Sir John Malcolm, the Governor of the Bombay Presidency.Mahabaleshwar served as the summer capital of Bombay province during the British Raj.Mahabaleshwar is not only famous for Sightseeing points but also famous for strawberries and honey. Strawberry with cream is the most popular drink.
Duration Of Trip: One day
Time of Visit: 26 th December 2021.Winter season is best time to Visit Mahabhaleshwar
Place of Stay: Ashoka Villa Resort .Which is 1.5-2 kms inside from Mapro Garden Panchgani.Resort is nice but road condition is worse.
Note:Book Hotel in  Mahabhaleshwar main market which will be near for sightseeing points.(MTDC Resort, Hotel Treebo,Shreyas Hotel )
Mode of Travel: Two Wheeler
Day-1
After having Tea and Breakfast we started our journey.Kates point is the first point of our one day trip. We reached here by 8 am.
Kates Point & Elephant Head Point
At a distance of 7 km from Mahabaleshwar Bus Stand, Kate’s Point and Elephant’s Head Point are the most picturesque viewpoints of Mahabaleshwar in the Satara district of Maharashtra. It is among the best
Babas cafe restaurant is at the entrance of Kate’s point. They serve varieties of snacks and drinks..Strawberry with dryfruit and cream was very good. Many Bollywood stars had visited this cafe earlier.
We also met with one guy whose name was Shahrukh who owns shop here. He explained very nicely about Kates Point.
Kate’s Point area has 3 points in total; they are Kate’s Point, Echo Point, and Needle Hole Point or Elephant’s Head Point. Kate’s Point is named after the then British governor Sir John Malcolm’s daughter. The original name of the point is Nake Khind and is situated at an altitude of 1290 m. Dhom dam, as well as peaks of Kamalgadh and Pandavgadh can be seen from Kate’s Point. It is one of the must include places in
Elephant’s Head Point or Needle Hole Point is another popular vantage point in Mahabaleshwar, situated next to Kate’s Point. The overhanging cliffs of this point are similar to the head of an elephant and its trunk. Thus the point got its name as the Elephant’s Head Point. One can see a natural rock formation with a hole in between, thus giving the name Needle Hole. Kate’s Point and Needle Hole Point are often confused with Elephant Head Point which is near Lodwick Point. From this point, tourists can also get a view of the Sahyadri mountain range.
We spent here one hour approximately at this point. Next we proceeded to Old Mahabhaleshwar. We reached Mahabhaleshwar Temple by 09:25 hrs
(2) Old Mahabhaleshwar Temple
At a distance of 6 km from Mahabaleshwar Bus Stand, Mahabaleshwar Temple is an ancient Hindu temple situated in the Old Mahabaleshwar in Satara district of Maharashtra. Temple parking area is very big and for two-wheeler parking charges are 10 rs and for four wheelers charges are 40 rs. In this premises we have 3 temples and Ashram. Outside this premises within 500m distance we have very old Krishnai temple.
Mahabhaleshwar Temple:
Mahabaleshwar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the important pilgrimage sites for Hindus. The temple was built by Chandarao More in 16th century and is a model of the Hemadant architectural style of South India. The hills have been named after Lord Mahabali, whose name stands a symbol of strength. The temple is enclosed by a 5 feet wall and is divided into two areas, inner room and outer room. The sanctum sanctorum has Shiva linga made of black stone, which is 500 years old swayambhu lingam. This self-originated lingam is in the shape of Rudraksha and is called Mahalingam.
Pechanga Temple: At a distance of 6 km from Mahabaleshwar Bus Stand, Panch Ganga Temple is a holy site situated near Mahabaleshwar Temple at Old Mahabaleshwar in Satara district. The Panch Ganga Temple is constructed at the confluence of five rivers, Krishna, Venna, Savitri, Koyna and Gayatri. All the rivers come out from the mouth of a statue of a cow in this temple, thus the place being called Panchganga Mandir.
Atibaleshwar Temple: This is a small Shiva temple which is often overlooked by most tourists who visit the temple complex at Old Mahabaleshwar. As one walks up to the Panchganga Temple,Atibaleshwar temple would be on the left hand side, about 200 metres before reaching the Panchgaga mandir. There was a narrow passageway between the wayside shops to reach temple. there was a large Nandi bull at the entrance to this temple. The main Mahabaleshwar temple is on the right hand side. Both these temples were supposed to have been originally built 2500 years ago, but the Atibaleshwar temple still has the original structure.
Krishnai Temple At a distance of 300 m from Mahabaleshwar Temple and 6 km from Mahabaleshwar Bus Stand, Krishnabai Temple is an old temple situated few meters away from Panch Ganga Temple in Old Mahabaleshwar. Krishnai Temple is supposed to be source of the Krishna River. The temple was built in 1888 by a ruler of Ratnagiri on a hilltop overlooking the Krishna valley. The temple has a Shiva lingam and a beautiful statue of Goddess Krishna. A small stream of the river flowing from a cow-face (gomukh) falls in a Kund or water tank which is the source of River Krishna. One can also visit Strawberry farms which is located close to the temple and can purchase fresh Strawberry.
After spending one to one and half hour we moved to our next destination Elphinstone Point.
Elphinstone Point
At a distance of 10 km from Mahabaleshwar Bus Stand and 5 km from Old Mahabaleshwar, Elphinstone Point is one of the famous viewpoints situated atop a hill near Arthur Seat Point in Mahabaleshwar.one has to walk for 5 mins from parking area to see the viewpoint. There are small stalls which provide snacks like Maggie, Bhel and Corn. Sugarcane juice and cooldrinks are also available.
It was discovered in 1830 by Dr. Murray and has an old mansion in its vicinity. The viewpoint got its name from Mount Stuart Elphinstone, the then Governor of Bombay Presidency. The mansion now lies in ruins and local authorities are planning to demolish to erect a picnic shed in its place for tourists.Elphinstone Point is one of the highest points in Mahabaleshwar overlooking the two valleys, with rivers Koyna on the left and Savitri on the right. The lofty cliff commands a panoramic view of the Pratapgarh Fort, Koyna Valley and nearby plains. One can also admire the ravine, which lies between Elphinstone Point and Arthur Seat Point.
Beware of Monkeys here as they can grab your food or water (if kept unattended).
Duration of Visit: One hour.
On the way to Arthusr seat Point there are few small points like Marjorie Point,Savitri Point,Monkey Point and Castle Rock Point.
Marjorie Point
Marjorie Point is about 500 meters below the valley with drop-offs from this point arising from the valley itself. Offering enchanting panoramic views of the Sahyadri Range, Marjorie Point is named after a prominent British administrator who found this location and served in these parts before independence. After clicking few pics we moved to Savitri Point. After reaching Savitri Point we came to know that this point was closed for few days, so without wasting time we moved to Arthur Seat Point.
Arthur Seat
One has to walk nearly 20-25 minutes from parking to reach Arthur Seat Point. That is the final point at Arthur Seat. Outside toilets are available at this point.
At entry point as well as throughout the point there are many stalls which serve Corn,Bhel,Maggie,Strawberry, cool drinks etc.One can enjoy this items.
Note: Arthur’s Seat Point area has 6 points in total viz Arthur’s Seat Point, Echo Point, Hunter Point, Tiger Spring Point, Window Point and Malcom Point. Hunter Point as its name suggests was used for hunting by British Officers.
Echo Point returns back one’s voice when shouted loudly into the valley. There is one more Echo Point in Mahabaleshwar at Kate’s Point which is more popular of the two.
                    Tiger Spring Point
Tiger Spring Point has spring having natural cool and safe potable water. Wild Animals used to drink water here. Original name of this point is Gayatri Taake. I had water from this point in a glass which was clear and cool.
Malcolm Point is a great place to view Toranagad, Pratapgad and Savitri Valley.

Window Point is in front of Arthur’s Seat Point. It got its name because of its naturally formed window shaped mountain. This Point was closed during our visit.
Arthur’s Seat is the most popular point in Mahabaleshwar. Although, popularly it is called as Queen of the Points, original name of the point is MadhiMahaal. Located at around 13 Kms from Mahabaleshwar Market, Arthur’s Seat point is at height of 1470m
It is famous for floating of light objects. If you throw light things like cold drink cap in the valley, it comes up again due to air pressure. This point is named after Arthur Malet who lost his wife and 1 month old daughter in a tragic ferry accident in Savitri River. Arthur used to sit here and stare at the river. From Arthur’s Seat Point, one can see picturesque vista having Konkan on one side and Desh (Deccan) on the other. The stratification of rocks on southern side looks like world famous Grand Canyon of Colorado.
Beware of Monkeys here as they can grab your food or water (if kept unattended).
After spending for 2 hrs around 3pm we reached Venna Lake.
Venna Lake
Venna lake is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Mahabaleshwar. Venna lake is man made lake and not a natural lake. Row and Peddle boats are available for the tourists. We reached this point around 03:45 pm. From parking area there is a broad pathway which leads to this point after walking for 10 mins. Located around 5 km west of Mahabaleshwar, Lodwick Point is another vantage point on the list of numerous viewing points of the city. Offering unparalleled views of the cityscape and surroundings, this point is popular among tourists. It was known as Sydney Point until the British officer General Lodwick climbed to it. The point was renamed to honor his achievement and a 25 feet memorial pole was erected at the point. The head of General Lodwick sculptured in marble is positioned at the base of the pillar. You can enjoy impressive views of the Pratapgarh Fort and Elphinstone Point from here. Wrapped in lush greenery it is the perfect spot to unwind.
There are two Elephant’s Heads in Mahabaleshwar. One is an obviously shaped elephant trunk at Kate’s Point which has been wrongly posted as the Attraction Photo for the Elephants Head at Lodwick Point. The other Elephant Head is a ridge just beyond and below Lodwick Point which with a bit of imagination, does resemble an elephant’s trunk.
 Bombay Point/Mumbai Point/Sunset Point
This is our last point of day. We reached here by 05:15 pm.This is perhaps one of the oldest viewpoints in Mahabaleshwar, and it is also called Bombay Point, or Mumbai Point. The Promises I’m Making (2021 Edition)
So how about we all just pretend that 2020 did not happen and we all call it good to erase the year from our memories entirely? I’m game. But I’m also not going to let 2020 totally ruin a long-standing tradition (14 years as of 2021!), so here are my 50 resolutions for this year! When writing promises this year, I decided to go easy on myself, so if the promises aren’t quite as adventurous as normal, well... you know what happened.
2021 Promises
1) Complete the window well on the new basement window so I can finally call that project good.
2) Get the Utah house sprinklers working again to prevent dead grass.
3) Get the back fence back into place and the greenery trimmed.
4) Get the patio replaced before it honestly does just fall down on someone.
5) Get an official exercise routine including walking/jogging, please.
6) Related to the above, lose 15 pounds. Teaching from home basically meant I spent all of 2020 sitting in front of computer, not moving, and it shows...
7) Successfully use the new Roomba my parents got me to keep my floors cleaner. (So much... dog hair...)
8) Get my wisdom tooth removed. (Holy shit, please Echo...)
9) Get a haircut. (No, really, I didn’t get a haircut at all in 2020 and my hair is so long I’d make Sailor Mars jealous.)
10) Find a real doctor to renew my medicine prescriptions so I don’t have to use an asthma inhaler that expired two years ago... please...
11) Fix the back Texas lawn because I let it get pretty bad.
12) For that matter, uhhhh, let me fix the front yard too.
13) Find a credenza for the foyer. Even if it’s expensive, just buy one already Echo.
14) Finish at least seven new books this year. (This goal feels so small, but when do I ever get time to just sit down and read nowadays?)
15) Organize my documents (especially student papers)—my desktop and documents folders give me nightmares just looking at them.
16) Get a decent paper shredder to shred old mail.
17) Talk to an HR rep about my retirement savings so that I can consolidate my retirement accounts.
18) Do at least one artwork to actually use that new paint program I bought.
19) Get the dishwasher fixed... even if I don’t quite know what’s wrong with it.
20) Pay my credit card down by at least 1/2. I made good progress this last year but I need to get it down a lot more before I’ll really be feeling good again.
21) Have all class changes and updates done before classes begin so I only have to worry about grading, not prep too. (There’s always new prep... I never get a break...)
22) Get the toilet in the Texas house fixed as well as the water heater checked because the shower in the back bathroom is cold, blech.
23) Help King lose weight to help with his arthritis. Aim for 85 pounds!
24) See a groove-billed ani. (It’s another type of bird.)
25) Make it to 3000 followers on tumblr. Can I do it? Maybe if I posted actual content once in a while…
26) Update HaaH at least once. Please. At least once...
27) Force Convince my father to fix the fixture in my parents’ front bathroom so my mother will finally stop complaining to me about the leaking sink.
28) Buy a new pair of shoes. I’ve literally worn the same pair of shoes almost every day for the last four years and it’s like... time to let them go.
29) Finish streaming the Fruits Basket remake with Kacchan.
30) Finish the other two QEP courses I was offered because bonus money...
31) Save up to finally buy one of those Ember heated tea mugs.
32) Help my parents save money on their bills by consolidating their services and making some calls to retention of these companies for them.
33) Get vaccinated for Coronavirus as soon as the vaccine is available.
34) Play the new TWEWY game (if it isn’t delayed)--I’m so excited!
35) Find a way to spend more time with my coworker. She does so much for me; I really need to repay her kindness more.
36) Do a video chat and bake with Kacchan since we can’t meet in person to bake together this year!
37) Learn to take better FFXIV screenshots. I need to learn how to use Gposers. XD
38) I will go birdwatching at least six times this year.
39) I will use the exfoliating mask and sugar scrubs I was given for Christmas. I will this time, I really will!!
40) I will get my kitty Gremory to the vet because there’s something not quite right with his claws and I want it checked out.
41) Get a bedframe for the new guest bedroom bed I was able to buy.
42) Eat fewer snacks in 2021--stop buying Oreos, Echo. You can do it.
43) Help ensure that the Todoroki family zine makes it out to everyone who ordered and we are able to close out that zine project strong!
44) Get all of the wolf mounts in FFXIV, finally. I never bothered to grind these at all lol.
45) I will help my mother go through all the family’s Christmas things because the house is so overloaded with Christmas stuff it’s actually becoming a big nuisance. (My family’s Christmas obsession could probably be a plot of a Christmas comedy movie at this point...)
46) Actually watch the Downton Abbey movie, finally.
47) Take ten “really good” photographs this year.
48) Spend more time with my aunt; we don’t see each other nearly enough.
49) A promise provided by a friend: “Try a new Mexican dish. One that doesn’t have mole on it, for once.”
50) I will keep these promises. LOLLLLL.
