I used to do background checks for a living and I want to add one more tidbit for this digital age.

Do not use the same email address for your resume as you do for social media. There is a company called Skopenow, and a few others, that use your locations, names, emails, phone numbers, family members, schools, and former jobs to find all of your internet activity and social media.

So if you have a monster smut blog on Tumblr, don't have that email connected to your professional email, and don't put your real name in the bio. Just use a fake name and a neighboring city, no one here is going to care. If they can't positively 100% identify that a social media account belongs to you, they can't put it in your background report.

Background checks, real ones anyway (Truthfinder isn't a real background check and rarely holds up when they get sued) use real people who have to follow local and federal laws. Fuck with them.

God, at least the responses all find this creepy and inappropriate.

"Toxic Positivity" is another phrase that gets bandied about so much that the whole of us forget what shapes our tongues need to make to form the right sounds.

Toxic positivity isn't smiling through tears or stiffing that upper lip, it's not hearing "the sun will come out tomorrow" on the old warped record player in your head or making jokes after a tragedy. At worst, those things are naivety and at best they're Hope.

If you want to see Toxic Positivity, capitalized and omnipresent, just to see what it looks like, go to any job recruiters' page on LinkedIn. It's a landscape made of rictus smiles and worn down manifestations; each profile is a shiny altar to a god that won't acknowledge it's been abandoned.

unpopular opinion but being able to perform well under pressure should not be a required skill for the majority of job applications if not all. why are we normalizing putting stress and anxiety on people who try to make a living and making them think having to work under pressure is something that is "challenging and good" (hence it takes skills to be able to do so) instead of something that the companies should fix?

This shit sucks. I applied for a job 2 years ago and got turned down at the end of the very final interview. Applied to the exact same job this past week and got immediately rejected for not having the relevant experience, despite having 2 years more professional experience than last time. What??? How???
