NaNoWriMo 2k17 update 1

Oh hi, it’s been a while.

I’m working on NaNoWriMo so my time has been consumed with it. I think every 7 days or so I’ll post an update on my progress so far. 

Title: Dark Heart (title subject to change) Word Count: 644 Notes: The premise is that the MC is flashback to when her parents died. So character death and a few dark thoughts are in here. But kinda mild to what I have in store.

“Sweetheart. Sweetheart, wake up.”

Kailyn groans at the sound of a woman’s voice. Her body felt light, almost a complete opposite for what it was before she passed out.

“Let her sleep.” said a male voice, “She had a tough meet today.”

The voices sounded so familiar. But it was impossible to hear those voices again. Kailyn groans again before waking up. She notices that she’s no longer in the room with the vials of fluid. But rather, she’s in the back seat of a car. The skies were clear and bright as she was being driven. A look at her hands she realized where she was. Instead of her black undershirt and leggings, she was dressed in a light sweatshirt and shorts. Around her neck was a silver medal while beside her was a medium sized trophy. Her hands touched the engraving on the trophy, shaking while reading the words.

‘This can’t be...’

“You’re awake now, my little firefly. What would you like for dinner tonight?” asked the woman.

“Mama, listen-”

“Your favorites right?” she asked, “You deserve it after that long run. Isn’t that right Dear?”

The male nodded in agreement. “Of course. That last leg was quite the upset. But you’ll do better next time, right Firefly?”

“Mama, Papa we need to turn around right no-”

Kailyn’s words were cut short by the sound of a car horn. Bright lights filled the vehicle before the overwhelming sound of metal crunching. She screamed as the car spun and tumbled. Shards of glass from the window splintered and cracked before shattering at the rough impact. She felt the shards pierce her bare skin. She felt her right knee buckle under the impact before going numb. It felt like minutes of the car tumbling before it finally stopped. There was an eerie silence that filled the scene instead. Kailyn wheezed in pain before fully assessing the situation before her. It was destruction around her. Everything was broken or torn. Her eyes widened as she noticed the lifeless look of her mother’s eyes. Pain was frozen on her body.

“M-Mama?”

Somewhere deep in her mind, she knew her mother wouldn’t answer her. She tried to look away, but she soon saw the crumpled mangled body of her father beside her. Parts of the, now bent, trophy was embedded into his body. Kailyn let out screams at the scene in front of her. Reality was sinking in for her that she was the only one alive for now. Screams and sobs racked her body. It hurt her mangled body so much to cry. She wanted anything to get rid of this pain, the raw emptiness that was consuming her heart. She couldn’t stop herself even if she wanted. Even if with minute movement brought waves of pain to her. Time had no concept to her. It was just her, her sobs, and the corpses of her parents. She cried until her body physically couldn’t cry anymore. The cries soon gave way to thoughts.

‘How long have I been here?’

‘Does anyone know that we’re here?’

‘Why am I still alive?’

“There’s a survivor.” said a faint voice.

Kailyn groggily lifted her head at the sound of the voice. Her body had a spasm in protest of the movements. She winced at the bright light shining on her face.

“Hey...are...ou okay?” asked the voice.

Kailyn blinked slowly. She tried to reach her hand out to the source of the voice, but they were pinned from the accident. The shock from her injuries and emotional turmoil had finally caught up with her. She felt dizzying sensations in her head. It was getting harder for her to stay conscious. She needed to sleep. That much was clear to her.

“Hey!” called out the voice, “Don’t pass out no-!”

‘At least I won’t die alone.’

2k17, Thank you for the lessons

As 2017 closes, i reminisce on the good and bad that this storm of a year has brought and washed with it. 

The year started of great, ending med school? Heck yeah. Graduation? HECK yeah. The great big travel plans? HELL YEAH. I couldnt have wouldnt have pictured a more perfect year - a year for me to catch up on things i love, and to finally tick boxes off my procrastinated bucket list. The thought of finally being free and able to find myself, to love and to be at peace with the war inside me, away from the toxic bigotry surrounding me for the past 5 years, was an immense joy. Oh sounds a lot like roses and sunflowers. I was a dog, promised the fake freedom of being out of a leash, to be left astray in a park. 

Months in the year passed, the uneasiness began. Its a subtle, almost unrecognizable tinge or crack in social strands. Conversations falter, efforts became one way and long past it, i grew weary. Weary, tired, exhausted, emaciated from putting 100% into maintaining social relationships i felt that was of immense worth, and yet feeling only a measly 20% return. Maybe its just me, maybe i’m tiring company, maybe i expect too much, maybe i’m a special brand of snowflake that gets easily offended or maybe a special strawberry that is spontaneously bruised. Ah well, its something i felt i have to live with - people suck; even those you feel closest to you; and thats that.

Living a month long, later in the year, with repeated anxiety attacks was new - although i knew the triggers to it, it was sadly not under my control. Arguments/spats/betrayal/back stabs/mental block became an absolute day to day norm in November. At days my heart would race like a jetstar plane from overthinking - Atenolol stat! Did it help? Absolutely not. But to my doctor, of course it did. Reasonable anticipation for a psychiatric referral but id rather do it on my own terms. Being wronged by my best friend in the worst way possible was heartbreaking. Felt like my anxious heart was ripped off my chest, stepped on, stabbed and clawed out of existence. With the end of the phone call, i could feel my self worth and self esteem dwindle out. Even as i type this, it still remains as a stinging reminder that disloyalty knows no boundaries and lies and bad faith knows no time. The crack soon became a wide split. 

Oh look December already? What happened to your travel plans? Saved up some cash to travel, but could never find the time to do it. Looking at instagram on how everyone seems to flex their parents’ money travelling just made me feel better about myself. At least when im going to do it, it comes from my own pocket -  and in the least way burdening to my parents, who have had to raise this man child till he’s 24 (and counting!). Id rather not siphon out 20k hard earned $$$ for my own personal, selfish, worldly gains.

Problems were solved, promises made but promises were not kept. Did the spat resolve though? Feels like a rough patch, feels more than that sometimes.Grateful to have someone who understands me and shares my troughs and waveforms, and i wasnt going to mindlessly lose that. Might not be a healthy resolution, but its a risk ill take for the time being. I forgave, but i will never forget. This scarred heart carries a splinter that no one will understand. And from this day forth, i make a stand to step away from everyone and everything i’ve known. I will watch bridges burn silently and nod to excuses people make for not keeping in touch.

“Oh nothing changes, youre still my friend. We can go out drinking soon - but oh you should plan it and why dont you drive down to KL every weekend while you’re at it - no biggie right if i dont at least offer to make an EFFORT in this?”

“ Haha youre joking right? i thought you knew me well enough to know i do ghosted relationships. ya know the one where we dont talk at all but i text you or call you ONLY because i need your company or beneficiaries that come with you?”

i will learn to be alone, i will learn to love my own company and i will survive solitude. Because in the end, people will break you. They will break all your hypothetical emotional bones in your body and play victim at the same time. People suck and they leave. They always do

TW PANIC ATTACKS

"I can't-" Leo's chest was heaving like he'd run a marathon but hardly any air could be heard moving through his lungs. "C-can't fu- b-brea-the-!"

"You can, Leonardo," Splinter was soothing, familiar, but panic was making his old hands shake. The grip his eldest had on his robe was so tight he could hear the fibers creaking from strain. "My son, please."

Leo hiccuped, shook his head, turning more pale by the second. His eyes were terrified. Screaming silently for help-

"Da-d-" wheezed through a throat clamped tightly shut. "P-pl-ease-"

"Breathe with me." Splinter's old paw curled around his son's shaking hand, trying to ground him so he'd stop trying to rip the plastron from his own chest. Leo keened. "Follow my lead."

Waking up out of a dead sleep to find that you can't fucking breathe is never fun. Leo has been blessed with night terrors and sleep paralysis.. This is "go get dad" level.

The turtles in 2k17 start going through the Big Plot type shit when they’re in their early twenties, which is all fun and games until I need plots and stories before the first Big Traumatic Shredder Plot. I can’t ignore the dumb teen years forever!
