ive been getting really into blender recently, i followed a humanoid tutorial wednesday night and ended up really liking it so i painted her into my toontown oc, i have a finished rigged and posed photo to post on my art blog but here are progress pics ft. the very shitty, very minimalist bones for her. she looks very goofy and i love her
and here is my current wip of a julian tiefling model! made from scratch. his model is REALLY fucked because i kept messing around with dissolving faces and vertices and edges to make it smoother and messing with fill tool to make certain edges which i think totally fucked it up, im planning to just paint over the mistakes and pray

his terrifying 282638946 poly horns, which i swiftly smoothed out to just a few faces
and the final product (needs to be uv wrapped and painted, dreading figuring this one out because of how many pieces he is)(rita was only one big piece, i split julian's head, hair, body, tail up)
when rigging him i don't think i'm going to add bones to the hair bc 1. psychological torture technique and 2. i think it'd look cuter and fit the low poly aesthetic if his hair didn't move lol. going for as few bones as possible, just as much is needed

screenshot quality is scrungly, but oh well.
This is Winzy Duke! The design on the left is the first one, the right is the update. I'm playing around with the hair and am glad that vroid had more options for thicker strands. I'm still not happy with the lack of options when it comes to weight or muscle mass (there isn't an option to change the waist or stomach measurements, the one that says waist actually alters the hip width) but perhaps in the next update. I'm still really happy about the hair.

The cage has a chain now! Also a temporary floor so I could make sure the chain goes, uh, on the floor instead of through it XD
#the great artscapade of 2025#art#my art#blender#blender render#blender 3d#cycles render#cg fast track#hard surface modeling boot camp#the chain took a lot of trial and error tbh#I had to start and redo four or five times#I honestly lost count lol#but I figured out how to get it to agree with me! :D#''work backwards'' :D#specifically I kept moving where the chain *started* instead of where it *ended* bc moving the *end* made the mesh stretch weird#but by moving the origin point I was able to maintain the size of the links and more easily control where they went :D#also had to fix the modifier that duplicates the links bc it was rotating slightly on the Y and Z axes which was making things EXTRA FUCKY™#but I figured it out! Yay! :D

im back in the fucking building of having a LOT of work (due friday) but being completely paralysed and unable to do any of it.
i dont want to do it because it's boring and im tired and mentally checked out of the semester. ive been in finals season for a month now. but i want to want to do it because it's technically interesting and ill learn a lot and itll teach me good skills for architecture, so why's it so hard to just get started??

THERE IS. a website. that takes 3D models with seams and pulls it apart to make a plushie pattern and informs you where things need to be edited or darts added for the best effect. and then it lets you scale it and print off your pattern. and I want to lose my MIND because I've lost steam halfway through so many plushie patterns in the mind numbing in betweens of unwrapping, copying all of the meshes down as pieces, transferring those, testing them, then finding obvious tweaks... like... this would eradicate 99% of my trial and error workflow for 3D models to plushies & MAYBE ILL FINALLY FINISH SCREAMTAIL...
