Lexx’s Top 10 Audio Plugin Recs

I get questions a lot about which software and whatnot I use, so I figured I’d just make a “holy grail” list of my 10 favorite audio plugins for mixing and editing music in a DAW.

So in no particular order:

1. Melodyne: The industry standard for tuning vocals. Melodyne is famous for being “invisible” in a mix (aka not obvious like auto-tune).

2. Ozone 9: Ozone 9 is a really awesome “mastering” plugin that I pop on at the end of nearly any mix (unless the song is going to a mastering engineer).

3. Izotope RX: Like Ozone, this takes up a LOT of CPU, but it’s a really awesome tool for any sort of audio repair, de-clicking, de-humming, etc. It was one of the first things I bought, and although I only have the basic version of it, it’s still very useful (though I can’t wait to be able to upgrade).

4. Valhalla Plate: Valhalla, in my opinion, has the prettiest reverbs. Their plate is my go-to reverb and I love it and put it on almost everything.

5. Kazrog True Iron: I love this saturator. That’s all I can really say.

6. Soundtoys Decapitator: Real tea I love all of Soundtoy’s plugins, and I was really really hard to pick my favorite. But Decapitator is one of their more famous plugins for a reason. This thing is an absolute beast at making any sound “pop” out of a mix.

7. Soundtoys Crytallizer: Oh if you thought I was gonna pick one Soundtoys plugin, you were wrong. Crystallizer is...not sure how to explain it? It granulates and modifies audio in a way that sounds just angelic.

8. Rbass by Waves: Waves is another monster in the plugin world, and Rbass is one of my most-used plugins by them. It creates harmonic undertones that beefs up instruments.

9. H-Delay by Waves: H-Delay is one of my go-to plugins for creating kinda gritty delay sounds, and what I love about this plugin is there are a ton of options if you want to distort and mess with audio delay.

10. Vocalign by Synchro Arts: I’ve worked with it in the past and am very excited that I just was able to purchase it for myself at home. This is a plugin that matches up audio at the click of a button, perfect for any doubled vocal lines.

And that’s my list! It was really really hard to narrow down to just 10 plugins but yeah these are my currently faves. For anyone who’s interested in getting any of these, do yourself a favor and wait for the sales. I legit got Ozone + Izotope RX for $30 lol (and I remember one time Izotope was just like...giving Ozone away for free. Wild).

Also, I want to add in for anyone starting out, there are tons of free plugins online. I use a lot of stock plugins myself! So don’t feel like you have to spend money to get a good sound.

If anyone has any “holy grail” plugins that they love, feel free to lemme know! I have a small list going of stuff I wanna check out.

This VST has more than 70 processors and over 500 active presets, each with their own set of processors and controls allowing you to completely customize and create new sounds.

An especially impressive feature of this VST is the automatic routing matrix: Insert any of the FX processors and the VST will do the routing for you by putting inputs and outputs in the most probable locations. This of course is fully editable, but is definitely a nice feature.

Oggi vi sveliamo una delle nostre “armi segrete” utilizzate in fase di mix per dare colore ed ottenere alcune caratteristiche piacevoli tipiche del suono analogico all’interno di una DAW. Si tratta del “Decapitator” della casa americana Soundtoys, un saturatore a modello hardware che emula il suono delle console analogiche spinte al limite per aggiungere fatness, calore e sporcare piacevolmente i singoli suoni del vostro mix, dalla voce alle drums, dal basso alle tastiere. La sua interfaccia é molto intuitiva, ed oltre a darvi la possibilità di scegliere fra 5 diversi algoritmi basati su diverse macchine analogiche (STYLE) potrete aumentare o diminuire il gain e la distorsione del segnale (DRIVE) attenuare le frequenze non desiderate (LOW CUT / HIGH CUT) inscurire o schiarire il suono (TONE), dosare il segnale naturale con il segnale saturato del Decapitator (MIX) e se ancora non vi basta e volete più distorsione c’è il tasto PUNISH! (don’t try this at home).

Tutto questo per darvi la buona notizia che oltre a poter scaricare la demo e testarlo personalmente fino al 14 Aprile il “Decapitator” è scontato del 50% sul sito Soundtoys (http://www.soundtoys.com) e che se ancora non lo avete ve lo consiglio fortemente e No, non riceverò il free bundle della Soundtoys per questo post... :)
