hello hello hello Jalebi! And I’m sorry it was really weird of me to not say hello in my previous ask :((

In context with the same (ask), I really loved that you pointed out all the scenes with the song, and how it impacted the whole story build up. Yk, Before watching ipkknd, I went through a whole phase of watching the ‘realistic’ romance movies in Hollywood. The ones that make the viewers relate with the protagonists, because we’ve all been heartbroken in some point of our lives, and that all romances do not end up in happily ever afters. The before trilogy, 500 days of summer, eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, normal people and many more. My perspective on love and romance changed completely over the past 2-3 years, and it kind of was good because I got familiar with the real picture. (I grew up watching bollywood films and read wattpad as a teenager, which was obviously, really like a strawberry-duniya) But now, I’m finding myself again going back to my childhood dreams and fantasies, like love is ‘meant to be’, or ‘true romance is aided by the divine’, ‘the red string theory’ and something of that sort. I’m scared that this might end up making me feel that ‘realistic love’ is inadequate. I have fallen in love with the way romance and love has been portrayed in ipkknd, and I don’t think i am getting over it anytime soon.

Ok, time for Jalebi to crack her knuckles and give a drop of two of reality sweetness and advice.

Romance is really about the way you feel. The way you imagine it to be. There's nothing ever right or wrong about the way romance works because there's no one way to define this notion of romance.

You see the best way to understand this is to really understand the way IPK showed how Arnav and Khushi experienced romance.

For Khushi always believed in what films and books sold her - she believed romance to be flowers, stars, seeing the person everywhere and so on and so forth. Thus when she fell for Arnav, she literally felt all this because this is how she was conditioned and believed romance would be.

Arnav, pragmatic in nature, truly never believed in the commercialized version of romance. What he did believe in was care being romance. He did NOT believe in Anjali's definition of romance. What he did believe is what he saw between Anjali and Shyam. The fact that his sister, so deep in love, cannot function if her beloved is in danger. She has a strong physiological response to Shyam. And Arnav does believe Anjali loves Shyam and vice versa. He does not believe love making the heart go fast, but he is aware of how an extreme emotion can affect the body. So the night he understands love (which he has been questioning for some time now) he realizes his care for Khushi was exaggerated, he collapsed at the thought of her harm and his extreme physiological reaction - racing heartbeats to restlessness - it's all due to and for Khushi, leaves him in a sombre realization.

The point here being you can never point out which version of romance is more accurate cause even if fiction, people feel love differently even for the most basic things.

If you are a romantic at heart and now believe larger than life things - from fate to God - play a role at romance, then even the most realistic thing like the person you like dabbing away your snotty nose during a cold will feel like the MOST romantic thing in the planet. You will see fate in this, you will feel the violins.

But if you're a realist at heart, then even at the most GRAND entry of your crush - helicopter and all - you will see the smallest things that matter to you. Such a small smile your hero throws your way before he goes for his day.

What we must understand though is that situations don't lead to love. Your feels and circumstances are two very separate things. I, at one point, used to believe that "Oh I'd get great love only if I go through the intense difficulty and push pull and fight with destiny"

Now that is a problem because a lot of the circumstances in IPKKND are best left to fiction. If realistic love doesn't appeal to you on screen - totally makes sense, heck I'm always down for grander schemes of love ON screen.

But in real life, it's really the realistic love that leaves you with the joy the grander shows love. It's the green flags, the safety, security and just goodness of it all that's really appealing.

Trust me when I say this, an honest intelligent conversation has had my heart racing faster than being backed into a wall 'a la Khushi'.

And the human mind is such, it can frame events into your head based on your definition of romance.

If I'm a hardcore romantic, then I will find divinity in reality and if I'm a realistic I will find realism in divinity. Because when I'm liking someone, I'm trying to find WHAT appeals to me.

And one really important thing to realize is that fate does NOT dictate one to be in your life when they're causing you grief. IPKKND is written as a romance that was not meant to have happened.

If you get an ASR - run. If you get a Khushi - run as well. One is too egoistic and the other is too idealistic.

Also realism does not mean passionless or things not being fated. It just shows you multiple other perspectives can happen. Yes, there's a certain escapism in these fantasy stories, but I also believe remarkable things can happen to absolutely ordinary people as well.

And you don't have to get over IPKKND at all - enjoy the vibes, enjoy the feels. Don't idealize the situations that Arnav and Khushi faced to get to love, but definitely idealize the power in their love.

Love's power is universal.

P.S: Talking about realism, it is interesting to note that the second time Khushi actually falls for Arnav (not infatuation) is when the littlest things happen.

A box of bangles cause her previous one broke, assisting her in serving the guests cause the waiters ditched on her, or simply telling her that the saree she chose first was the better one.

Nothing remarkable at ALL and this is as realistic as love gets, and as beautiful too.

The grand gestures of dance, kiss and mehendi's 'A' make her uncomfortable. His soft smile and showing up, personally, to her house in the morning is what touches her.

The fussy schoolteacher and the chainsmoking playboy find each other in a world gone chaotic in the shadow of the apocalypse. They were my first real, true, I'mma-write-fic-about-this ship. They've spent 500 years finding each other. Tough to beat.

In every movie of Sunny Deol, he comes like a roaring lion with his violent dialogue delivery and demolishes every villain with blows of his massive fists. He did the same in Gadar 2. Manish Wadhwa plays the lead antagonist in this Gadar sequel. His character of Pakistani Major General Hamid Iqbal was intriguing as well as intimidating. I truly missed the late veteran actor Amrish Puri who was the lead antagonist in Gadar (2001). Honestly, there cannot be a villain ever who can match up to his legacy. Ameesha Patel, who was the lead actress in Gadar (2001), convincingly reprised her role as Tara Singh’s wife Sakeena. The action choreography, cinematography, and visual effects in Gadar 2 are outstanding and even surpass that of the 2001 prequel. In Gadar 2, you will witness Tara Singh overturning trucks with his bare hands, breaking down massive poles, and of course, sending villains hurtling and flying in the air. In short, the 2-hour and 50-minute screenplay is laden with action and thrills. However, no one can forget the “hand pump” scene of Gadar (2001) where Tara Singh uprooted a massive hand pump and demolished the masses in Pakistan with it. I liked the songs in this sequel, especially the ones like “Udd Jaa Kaale Kaava” and “Main Nikla Gaddi Leke” which brought back the memories of the unforgettable Gadar (2001), the most violent and thrilling romantic action movie of all time! The Bad: The plots of Gadar (2001) and Gadar 2 (2023) are more or less similar. The story of Gadar (2001) is set in the year 1947, during the partition of India whereas the story of Gadar 2 (2023) is set in the year 1971, during India’s war with Pakistan. In Gadar (2001), Tara Singh goes to Pakistan to save his wife, and the same story gets repeated in the sequel, where Tara Singh is again in Pakistan, this time to save his grown-up son, who has fallen in love with a Pakistani girl, just like him. So, it’s the same familiar story, only remastered with a new level of action choreography. https://youtu.be/2nK6WBcGPOw The Verdict: Gadar 2 is a sure-shot blockbuster and its earnings are causing Tsunamis at the Box-Office collections. It is not a very high-budget movie, like many Bollywood and South Indian movies which have crossed INR 500 Crores, but its profits are sure to reach sky-high! It’s obvious, a movie like Gadar 2, and all Anti-Pakistani Bollywood movies are banned in Pakistan. Who can tolerate his or her own defamation? I bet neither you nor I. So, doesn’t Pakistan. The fact is that the release of Gadar 2 set up an outrage amongst Pakistanis where massive posters of Sunny Deol were burned by them. You may not be aware that Sunny Deol has been banned forever from traveling to Pakistan after the release of Gadar 2. Pakistanis have been considering Sunny Deol as their threat for decades. https://youtu.be/IJ8jJfnL3Sc Overall, the Gadar film series is a mass entertainer, one such movie that is close to my heart and the hearts of every Indian citizen. As for my personal opinion, I would say that it doesn’t matter if you watch this movie or not! You may burn posters of Sunny Deol or any other Indian, shower your rage upon Indians, and try to demean them. But, before you mess with an Indian, always remember what Tara Singh (Sunny Deol) said to Ashraf Ali (Amrish Puri) in Gadar (2001), “Aapka Pakistan Zindabaad Hain, Isse Humhe Koi Aitraaz Nahi. Lekin Humaara Hindustan Zindaabaad Tha, Zindabaad Hain, Aur Zindabaad Rahega!” which means, “We take no offense if you chant that Pakistan is victorious. KISHORE AND RAFI - OF BOLLYWOOD’S BIGGEST ELEPHANTS & IT’S MOST SUCCESSFUL STORY EVER.

Where geniuses recommended geniuses as replacements, not once but three times within the same story!

Story being - Rajesh Khanna had just announced to the world, after his mega successful year 1969, arguably the greatest singular year for a single artist, & one of his 6-7 consecutive years that saw him deliver ~ 50 films, all of which today find proud place in Indies All-Time Top 500-600 Hindi films ever!..that no other singer would ever playback for him, except the great Kishore Kumar! Naturally then, whenever any song for a Rajesh film would be orchestrated, Kishore would be the person to call for blindly. .. Same for this one song in 'Haathi Mere Saathi' (one of Khanna's 25 films royally included among Indie's All-Time Top 100 Hindi Films ever!) ..the Bengali maestro came to the studios, & started his rehearsals. Yet, for some peculiar reason, he found this particular song very hard to get right, such that even after several attempts & rehearsals, he just couldn't get himself to be satisfied. He kept thinking to himself, & slyly looking at the music composers Laxmikant-Pyarelal all this while, when finally Kishore got up & exclaimed "This is Rafi's song! Only Rafi can sing it!". Kishore perhaps in his genius, sensed that this deeply Rafi number was only given to him, coz of the hero's grand media announcement..and choosing to make a gracious exit would be the best course for sake of art. Yet composers & producers now were in a quandary as to how the megastar would react!..to which the meastro asked them not to worry (perhaps knowing that his deep friendship with Khanna would turn the tide), & as exactly how turned out. But the next problem- Twas considered a big insult in music circles then (& those were the finest most sensitive brilliant musical times indeed) for a singer to be the replacement..& here was Rafi the great, put in that position! Wonder how he'd react?! Not to be a worry, as Rafi saab, famous for his super large heart & angelic demeanor, didn't bat an eyelid, & accepted what was offered!

The result- 1. One of the only entries in record books, of arguably the greatest post-independence singer of Bollywood, ever singing, for it's greatest ever actor! 2. A music album that broke all records, winning the producing music company a silver disc for sales, for the first time! 3. A film that not only turned out to be the biggest hit of the year, but counting for inflation (& only competing with Bahubali) remains the biggest ever Bollywood hit by a South Indian producer!
