XVIIth-XIXth Century rugs from the Manufactures of la Savonnerie and Aubusson (and Axminster!)

Part II

These rugs were created by either La Savonnerie or Aubusson manufactures, two prominent and luxurious rugs, upholstery and tapestry manufactures stablished in france during the Ancien Régime.

The set contains 18 swatches in many styles, ranging from Louis XIV to Edwardian, in 2 sizes (5x7 and 4x6) and of course none of then are castable.

This time, I added a small gift to make up for the delay, it's a rug woven by Axminster for the Saloon at Saltram House in Plymouth, England! (1st picture, first rug from left to right)

I started my balcony decorating quest and I measured the length and width and got like 5 feet wide and 10 feet long roughly so I started looking around for a rug to start. found one today at target that was 5x7, and I should’ve known, but I had a gift card that basically covered the whole thing so I got too excited and it just ALMOST fit but the 5’ width was just too wide. So I need to take that back and probably try to hunt down one that’s like 4x8 after seeing that one. But I looked online already and like that really doesn’t seem to exist anywhere. What do you do if the rug you need doesn’t exist

okay since this is just an interior decorating blog for the moment:

I have this 7x10 blue-green rug that I don’t have a home for at the moment but am loath to sell—it’s fairly new still and it’s a really pretty color in real life. If it were a 9x12 or even 8x10 it would be perfect in the kitchen but as is it’s a little too short and looks pretty awkward 😭 what do you think? if I sell it I am considering buying a smaller 5x7 to go under the table (and maybe a matching runner to go along the counter area?). but then I have to face the task of Selecting a Rug, which for me is almost as excruciating as picking paint colors. I never know what colors or patterns to pick… rug selection is a mysterious art

I don’t like that clock there (it was another thing I had handy from the old apartment) but I also didn’t like the blank wall. not sure what to put there. a spice rack? small hanging produce baskets? a narrow little shelf with succulents or small plants? I never open that cabinet door so I’m not too limited by needing to access it.

I think that white strip over the cabinets looks weird but I don’t know how to fix it. do I paint it to tie the two parts of the room together? the white cabinets / white appliances / white counters / white backsplash and strip of wall makes me feel crazy
