DMX | Woodstock 1999
"Ruff Ryders Anthem & Slipping"
All the Lads listened to DMX. If you were in middle or high school in the late 90s when DMX dropped his first album and then fucked around and dropped a second Platinum album in the same year then you remember that even white dudes who loved nothing resembling hip-hop and or hated everything about it couldn't help but love The Dog.

Jay-Z - Reasonable Doubt I honestly have pretty mixed feelings on this album. On one end this is incredibly impressive. The beats are all fucking amazing and carefully curated to lend themself to the overall themes of refined success and relaxed elegance. On top of that, Jay-Z simply is one of the greatest rappers of all time, and listening to him right at his start is fucking incredible. He has one song where he intentionally uses the word "To" twenty two times in a verse and then just keeps going, its so incredibly lyrically dense, the flow is perfect, the whole thing is fucking insane. However, on the other hand, I really, really, disagree with Jay-Z's beliefs and what he's expressing on this album. There are multiple times where it's explained that the issue with racism and inequality in the United States is the behavior and decisions of Black People. In that song 22 To's it ends with a woman DJ saying "I smell some reefer, now you see? That's why, our people don't have anything. Because we don't know how to go in places and act properly" and to me, this isn't true. Weed isn't the reason so many black people are in poverty, and that coupled with the verses about bragging about selling crack and other addictive / harmful drugs to other people in order to improve one's own situation reads as blaming addicts for their struggle, blaming poor people for their struggle, and saying I will exploit them in order to become rich myself. No wonder he became a Billionaire! Overall, this is a terrific rap album. I often talk about how a good rap album can totally transport you into the world of an artist, and this album absolutely does that. I just am not sure that Jay-Z's beliefs being earnestly expressed here give me the same joy that a more political left wing lyricist would have, but when you hear that bass, and Jay-Z's voice riding it like a wave, you can understand why Jay-Z has the popularity and acclaim he does.

Guys I've got to come out. I unironically love Vedek Bareil. You know the way we obsess over certain minor characters, like ensign Vorik and stuff. It's like that with him and it's been that way since I first watched DS9. Idk I know he's "white bread" or whatever but I don't care !! I found his death genuinely fucked up and sad. In the episode where Lwaxana was making everyone super horny accidentally he was pretty cute and dorky. Idk I just like him. This is now an anti Bareil-slander zone !
