here is the spotify link to Robin and Steve's Epic Platonic Soulmate Mixtape (vol.1) I'm going to say they made this version in the early spring of 1985. fic link
track list and explanations under the cut!!
Side A--the queer side
Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler: I'm gonna take a wild guess and say y'all know why this is here
Rainbow Connection by Kermit: also self explanatory. and a bop. AND about rainbows. what more could you want?
Bangkok/One Night in Bangkok by Murray Head (Original Chess Recording version): 1) a banger. 2) from a whole musical written by the Bs of ABBA 3) Steve likes to listen to musical while vacuuming his pool :) 4) queer vibes. "the queens we use would not excite you" "i get my kicks above the waistline, sunshine" also to note they DID probably shave off the first minute of instrumental, but not all of it. I used this version and not the radio edit because in my heart of hearts I believe Steve picked up the Chess concept album in the fall of 1984, vibed with it, (I've answered an ask about stobin and the musical chess where I talk more) and that's the version he has.
Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy by Queen: tbh always sounded gay to me, and it's such a fun song, I think they'd vibe with it and agreed it's a silly little nod to steve's previous rep.
Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard by Paul Simon: GAY GAY VERY GAY SONG "it's against the law...what their mama saw/it was against the law" HMM also it's catchy and has so much potential to be an angsty queer ballad too. (also Robin's dad is 100% a Simon and Garfunkle stan that's just. a fact to me.)
I'm Coiming Out by Diana Ross: iconic song claimed by the gays. for the obvious reasons. bit on the nose but this is for THEM.
Sunshine (Go Away Today) by Jonathan Edwards: About not letting someone control your life. It's catchy and heartfelt, dreams about the future. Steve's Vecna Song for me.
You Can't Hurry Love by The Supremes: stobin are losers in the love department, and it's a great and hopeful song about not rushing into things. The Supremes Version because Robin is influenced by her former Hippie parents, and Steve by his Aunt Evelyn and her love of 50's and 60's music. They have appreciation for the Oldie Goldies.
Lady Marmalade by LaBelle: Disco baby. I also feel this was a song for us queer folk. maybe because I'm queer and I like it. it's great, and robin loves hearing women sing about having sex.
Holding Out for a Hero by Bonnie Tyler: throwback to the first song on the mixtape Steve gave Robin at the very beginning! now with the Upside Down between them it means more too. it's also SO FUN to belt in the car. frantic and with a good beat. I don't think I need to justify this one haha
Believe it or Not (theme from Greatest American Hero) by Joey Scarbury: Robin LOVES this stupid show about a cringe fail teacher with his cringe fail life getting a super suit from aliens and then losing the instruction manual. It just feels like a show she'd like even though it's so silly. The theme song is actually great tho. I think it'd really tickle the part of Robin that feels overly average and a bit trapped in Hawkins, but feels those confines lessen when she's with Steve and getting to feel like there's more out there for her. Personally, I first heard it on cassette of top 100 tv themes (along with MASH, Law and Order, Hawaii Five-oh, Andy Griffith etc) sitting in a booster seat in the front seat of my family's motor home on a long summer road trip in the early 2000's, as my dad drove and told me what show each song was from. (Steve buddy I understand your dream so much ok. There's nothing quite like being a kid and going on a roadtrip with your family. magical.)
Side B--The Besties side
You're My Best Friend by Queen: Love song for your best friend me thinks yes :)
Stuck With You by Huey Lewis and the News: the only anachronistic song on the playlist, but I couldn't NOT put it on. lavender marriage stobin REAL. They're stuck with each other :) also look at Steve. He is a guy who listens to Huey Lewis. We know this. He heard this song a year before it came out and was like robin :') it's us....I'm stuck with you...I'm so Happy about it :))
Stoned Soul Picnic by The 5th Dimension: Robin's parents are former hippies. This song is fantastic. Pure vibes. Steve and Robin are going to get rescue cats that are bonded together and name them Sassafras and Moonshine for this song.
Video Killed the Radio Star by The Buggles: Bop and a half. Sing along song.
Both Sides Now by Judy Collins: 1)gorgeous song originally by Joni Mitchel but this version is a bit faster 2) Robin's former Hippie parents influencing her taste strike AGAIN 3) she tries to convince Steve it's about being "queer like him" and he doesn't buy it but "I've looked at love from both sides now/.../I really don't know love at all" and "Oh, but now old friends they're acting strange/ And they shake their heads and they tell me that I've changed/ Well something's lost, but something's gained" hit different for him
Only the Good Die Young by Billy Joel: I chose this billy joel song because it's 1) catchy as all hell 2) about having sex 3) mentions dying and stobin are like We didn't die!! hell yeah! Steve's a pianist and tbh he loves billy joel. who doesn't. it was between this one and piano man i guess, tho i love many Billy Joel songs that are "deeper cuts" ha. and "I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints/the sinners are much more fun" line is like. what are they gonna do. not be an emotional queer teen about it?
Raspberry Beret by Prince: it's catchy, and whilst originally I had put La La Love You By Don McLean here, I like this one better. Robin is definitely a Prince fan. and a beret fan. happy coincidink. and its a fun song! about loosing your virginity to a hot girl in a barn!
Indiana Wants Me by R. Dean Taylor: okay originally I'll admit I put this on the masterplaylist because. obviously post-s4 Eddie running away angst song even if it's more folk-rock than metal. I think Steve and Robin would listen to it and really vibe with wanting to go home but not being able to. even if it's not literally. also they live in Indiana and like. you've gotta respect a song about where you live. ALSO the cop sounds in it. so good.
Born in the USA by Bruce Springsteen: a song? about being disillusioned with the American dream after seeing the institutional failures of the government??? very Steve. the whole album is great, and I know I've reblogged a post about Steve and the album (My Hometown hits different). It's angry, frustrated, passionate. Being queer in a small town where the government covers up it's human experimentation and alternate dimensions probably makes you feel a lot of things. All with the veneer of Americana.
Where Do You Go To (My Lovely) by Peter Starstedt: purely self indulgent of me. I adore this song. I think Steve heard it, and thought of Robin. The remembering, the deep knowledge of another person, the longing. When he told Robin that it's a song he always associates with her she tears up a bit, because it's so tender and loving, and a bit silly. Like. Steve knows she'll be amazing and can't comprehend anyone not seeing it. It's sooo tender.
Thank You for Being a Friend by Andrew Gold: Golden Girls didn't air their first episode until fall 1985, and obviously when it does Stobin are loyal viewers, (Steve is in love with Bea Arthur. as is right) but this song came out in the 70's. It's fun and cute and catchy! They love each other and are so, incomprehensibly grateful that they found each other.

Home, Vol. 1 by Julio Anta
After being separated from his mother at the US border, a young Guatemalan immigrant must learn to harness emerging superhuman abilities while being hunted by the Federal Government.
JULIO ANTA and ANNA WIESZCZYK debut with a deeply grounded, and heartfelt graphic novel that explores the real world implications of a migrant with extraordinary powers.
Review: I've said this before and I'll say it again -- this is such a good time for graphic novels right now, especially graphic novels featuring marginalized voices and underrepresented stories. From Gene Luen Yang's Superman run, to queer graphic novels like Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me and Mooncakes, it's a good time to be reading. And of course, we can't forget John Lewis's incredible graphic memoirs which you absolutely need to read if you haven't already.
Home by Julio Anta and Anna Wieszczyk is another great entry into this era of impactful graphic novels for young people. It follows a Guatemalan boy and his mother as they seek asylum in America and are met with the cruelty, neglect, and injustice that pervades the American immigration system, including the family separation policy. But in Home, our hero discovers his own latent superpowers, and that's where the story takes a turn. He has powers he can hone and harness, and he is not alone.
The storytelling and art in this graphic novel are incredibly compelling. I read this in one sitting and you likely will too, if you pick it up. The ending does leave many things unresolved, which I assume points to the first volume being part of a larger series. Unfortunately, I don't see more issues coming out at the current moment, so this story will have to be left on a cliffhanger for me.
That said, I'm excited for what Julio Anta does next, and if you are looking for a heartfelt, impactful graphic novel that doesn't shy away from current events, Home is where you'll want to look.
Recommendation: Get it soon!

Alright, let's see if I can craft something mildly coherent about my precious boy Eddie Munson
Lengthy post (and spoilers) under the cut.
I talk about 'The Piggyback' contradicting some core elements of ST and character development, the use of Eddie throughout the season and what happens with him and the epilogue of the ep.
Why Exactly Did He Need A Redemptive Arc?
I can't help but see Eddie's death as a redemptive 'dying as the hero' arc. Why was this crucial for this character? The only people who disliked him was Jason and his friends - and they are antagonists of the Hawkins Squad throughout the season. Aaaaand they are positioned as bad people (and they got much worse in the last ep - the stuff with Jason and Lucas was fucked up). It's not like Eddie had to redeem himself to the Hawkins Squad either. They protected him throughout the season and then he jumped in Lover's Lake with the rest of the Fruity Four towards the end of Vol.1. The 'he needs to believe he's a hero'-moment already happened in the conversation with Steve in the Upside Down. Why repeat that and have him die? He never did a 'bad' thing - people only thought he did and we (the audience) knew his side/perspective, it's not like his character was ever up for debate.
Punishing 'The Freak' is a Contradiction
This is obviously where we get into queerbaiting territory. Eddie was a queer-coded character. His last moment with Steve was clearly going to be something directly to him but then he hesitated and instead just spoke about Vecna. I'll die on that hill. Eddie dying also completely ignores the countless parallels with Robin, an openly gay character.
What I think I hate the most about him dying was that we know that he isn't this evil 'freak' that the town and Jason label him. He uses 'freak' multiple times in a queer-coded manner - or perhaps just in an attempt to own the moniker for his own sake. But the season was so overtly critiquing the Satanic Panic of the 1980s through Eddie and Hellfire so I find it this MASSIVE contradiction to then kill the every character the Duffers are using to criticise/explore a damaging moment in American culture. I find it even more fucked-up seeing as Eddie is queer-coded because the obsession with the Satanic Panic (something 'happening' in US society that completely made up) happened simultaneous to the AIDS/HIV crisis (which was a very real issue).
I don't mean to sound like I need to be babied through tv, but for me ST has the whole good vs. evil in a fantasy or sci-fi manner running through it. And Eddie was never bad. Bad people (if we can categorise into that binary for a moment) thought he was bad/evil etc. And the town still thinks that, more so now that the 'murders' are news. Example: you can't tell me the dumb Wheeler parents knew who Eddie was beyond Mike talking about him (as the cool leader of Hellfire) and yet, now they are at home watching the tv seeing him portrayed as a murderer.
Throughout this series, people's differences are their strengths, they are embraced through stuff like the found-family trope and they find goodness in each other and FOR EACH OTHER. We literally saw that in 'The Piggyback' with the Jonathan/Will exchange and also El's whole arc of rejecting both Vecna's and Brenner's influences on her power. Mike's love for her (in terms of his and the party's more pure intentions about her powers) literally becomes the very element that resolves this season. I find it sooooooooo contradictory to be continually using these elements and peppering in other similar media (Eddie loving Lord of the Rings) throughout the season and then just completely go against that in this instance. I cannot see any reason why this was done.
The 'Two Days Later' is Dismissive
As more time passes and I consume more television, the more I think flashing forward as a conclusion/epilogue to a series or season within a single episode positively suck. I'm actively pissed off about the epilogue to 'The Piggyback'. You cannot tell me that the Hawkins Crew wouldn't have recovered Eddie's body, the fact that we didn't get that (or at least a reunion between Steve and Dustin) is soooooooo weird to me. I almost feel like at the last-minute Eddie was kinda cast aside. In these last two eps in general I found the pacing to be off where scenes with El and Brenner then El and Vecna to be excessively long rather than building tension (not saying I dislike El, I'm talking about the writing).
Possibly the biggest problem here was that there was no acknowledgement of any Hellfire members about Eddie other than the (genuinely touching) exchange between Dustin and Wayne. But then that was it. Where was a scene of Mike finding out? And to be a Steddie/Fruity Four feral for a moment, there was also NOTHING from Steve and Robin about him? The two people who totally embraced him into the crew and fought and plotted alongside him.

Theories and hopes about Jancy’s reunion? By the way I’ve been rereading your fics for comfort so if the writers fail us I’m at least glad we have amazing AO3 writers like you to make up for it
guys there are so many messages like this in my inbox including from like the day that vol. 1 dropped so let me publicly apologize now for everyone i have NOT responded to, i am such an ass.
so let me get this out of the way at the top: while my ENTIRE SOUL craves their reunion as soon as possible, i do actually value the plot of this show above all else (hell, putting plot over feelings is what makes season 1 and season 2 so delicious; while i screamed at nancy going back to steve in the s1 finale it also made for the most incredible angst and tension for s2, i love it) and so feel like some of these following thoughts may surprise?
i don't expect it to come early. i expect it after the (first?) big vecna battle because...
i think the (first?) big vecna battle might happen simultaneously across all american locations; so you've got jonathan, will, mike, argyle and el in nevada with el going into max's mind; nancy, steve and robin (g1) and eddie and dustin (g2) in the upside down; and lucas, max and erica in the creel house in Real Hawkins. and i think/hope that el's entrance into max's mind comes relatively late, thus surprising vecna and causing what appears to be a false victory for our heroes because...
i think vecna is still going to be the primary threat for season 5, and i think/hope that he will also either be using el or using... will...
because i think that's what will's "he's not going to stop until he kills everyone" line is really about in the vol. 2 trailer. i think (i hope?) the first season ends with will getting got in vecna's spell, and being used as vecna's minion, because i think it's vecna who wanted him all along. that the demogorgon scared him in season 1 episode 1, but that vecna is what got him in the shed. what brought him to the other side. because i think (i hope?) will has powers, too.
i realize that NONE of that is jancy but i needed to get that out of the way because what i want for jancy is this:
i want nancy to be able to express her relief that jonathan is finally, finally there because i think the subtext of her entire attitude this season, especially since fred died, has been "i miss him and i wish he was here with me" and she has been afraid or unwilling to say it aloud, for whatever reason. so i want the relief to be on her face, on her body, hell i want it to come out of her mouth. i want her to hug him with her entire soul because she is finally, finally safe in his arms again.
i want jonathan to apologize for not calling, to explain why they are there and why they had to be so silent about it, to fill THE ENTIRE teen gang, but especially nancy, in on what happened with them this whole time. i want nancy to do the same in return.
(i want the argyle in person introduction to be funny. please. this is gonna be heavy. let us laugh.)
i want them to get a quiet moment to themselves, and i want them to talk. even if they can't resolve everything now, i want them to trust each other enough to express their fears about the future, worries about college, concerns about their ability to be long distance. and i want them to reaffirm that it's hard but it's worth it; they made a vow at the end of season 3, and i want them to reiterate it. because they meant it. i was there, i saw it with my own damn eyes.
and i want them to fucking kiss.
and then i want the entire world to go to shit as will rises into the air under vecna's influence and for the season to end on a motherfucking hell of a cliffhanger.
will i get what i want? lolololololololol no fucking way. i never do. but i hope i get at least some of that. i think my desires for the reunion are reasonable. it's not asking too much.
and, you know, if i don't get it, well, i'm gonna go stand on some lawns and do some really loud, angry shouting. (jk, i'm gonna write a million fanfic about it)
i'm not gonna say any of these are really theories (beyond the will stuff and the plot stuff, i really do feel like they're laying that foundation and oh my god, if it does go that way then season 5 is going to be devastating), but these are my hopes, at least. what about you guys?

Top 10 Songs Trending on Music Chart this week!
Tumblr media
Here Whatson editor Tama has selected the top 10 songs that are trending on the global music chart. You can listen to a mixed genre of music which can refresh your mind so, start and to your playlist. 1. Kilbil by SZA American singer-songwriter SZA's second studio album, SOS, contains the song "Kill Bill" (2022). The martial arts film duology Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003) and Kill Bill: Volume 2 (2004), which centers on an assassin dubbed the Bride and her desire to destroy her ex-boyfriend, gave the song its title. https://youtu.be/MSRcC626prw 2. Unholy by Sam Smith and Kim Petras Sam Smith eventually made the song "Unholy," which featured Kim Petras and was already well-liked on TikTok, available for purchase. Those few seconds had 193 million views by the time the song was released on September 22nd, and they were still trending at number 2 on the top chart. https://youtu.be/Uq9gPaIzbe8 3. 'Bloody Mary' by Lady Gaga "Bloody Mary" is one of the few tracks on "Born This Way" that is definitely not meant for the dance floor. The song becomes much more melancholy when male vocals are added that repeat "Gaga" in an echoing, monk chant fashion. https://youtu.be/63zSjR_nhNI 4. Metro Boomin’s ‘Heroes & Villains’ Metro Boomin, whose star-studded Heroes & Villains collection this week earns him his third No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 albums list (after Not All Heroes Wear Capes from 2018 and Savage Mode II, his 2020 collaboration with 21 Savage). https://youtu.be/_WCD3Z9UmJ4 5. Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53 Colombian superstar Shakira and Argentine DJ Bizarrap's "Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53" was quietly released on January 11. Within 24 hours, the session had amassed over 15 million Spotify listens, placing it at the top of the service's Top 50 global playlist. In addition, the video had amassed over 55 million YouTube views, setting a record for a Spanish-language song. https://youtu.be/CocEMWdc7Ck 6. ‘Maan Meri Jaan’ by KING Modern love song Maan Meri Jaan by Indian musician KING, taken from his recently released album Champagne Talk. The song has received over 21 million audio streams since its release in October, achieving an astounding 1.1 million+ daily streaming in India alone.   https://youtu.be/VuG7ge_8I2Y 7. Besharam Rang by Shilpa Rao, Caralisa Monteiro, Vishal & Shekhar Ravjiani On social media, the freshly released "Besharam Rang" song from "Pathaan" has drawn a lot of criticism. Bollywood diva Deepika Padukone received a ton of trolls for sporting some suggestive swimwear in the song's music video. On YouTube, however, the song broke all previous records by receiving millions of likes and views. https://youtu.be/huxhqphtDrM 8. Anti-Hero by Taylor Swift What has received over 30 million views on YouTube and is filled with critical self-reflection? That's accurate. Taylor Swift's "Anti-Hero," the first single and music video from her most recent album, Midnights, was released on Friday (October 21) still trending in the top ten. https://youtu.be/b1kbLwvqugk 9. Rema & Selena Gomez’s ‘Calm Down’ As the song ascends into the Official Singles Chart Top 10 for the first time, Rema's Calm Down has become the UK's No. 1 Trending Song. The Afrobeats prodigy has been a rising star for a while, but this next year could be the most thrilling of his career so far thanks to his first real breakthrough track. https://youtu.be/WcIcVapfqXw 10. Under the Influence by Chris Brown Chris Brown, an American musician, has a song called "Under the Influence." It is the third song from his ninth studio album Indigo's extended version, which was made available on October 4, 2019, by RCA Records. Together with producer Kiddominant, Tiffany Mckie, and Nigerian vocalist Davido, Brown wrote the song. Commercially, "Under the Influence" was a sleeper hit before TikTok helped it go viral in 2022. https://youtu.be/pfxyk1glEq4 Read the full article

Hello! Do you have any "real world" timeline of Wanda's backstories (particularly her origins). I know she was created in the 60s, and her first origin seems to have her as the biological daughter of two golden age American heroes. However most wiki pages only describe her latest "in-universe" history. Im curious to know how many actual real-world years she spent as a White American, German Jew, Serbian Romani, Mutant, Witch, Avenger, etc. Thanks!
I’m choosing to do this as a chronicling of backstory retcons (plus a couple of important firsts) because it would be too much to do the whole thing, and I’m going to include the various changes to Magneto’s backstory because they’re kind of necessary. The dates listed are release date, not cover date.
March 1964 (X-Men vol. 1 #4) -- It’s Wanda, no last name. She’s a mutant, part of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. She’s from Central Europe. She has an older brother named Pietro, and he promised their parents that he would take care of her.
March 1965 (Avengers vol. 1 #16) -- Wanda’s an Avenger now.
November 1966 (Thor vol. 1 #134) -- We learn that Wanda and Pietro, who are now twins, are connected to Wundagore Mountain and that there was a massive “blinding light” on the night they were born. This was maybe an aborted attempt to retcon them into not being mutants (their powers are referred to as “mutant-type” for some reason), but it goes nowhere.
May 1974 (Giant Size Avengers #1) -- Wanda and Pietro finally have a backstory. They are the children of US-American superheroes Madeline and Robert Frank (aka Miss America and The Whizzer). They were born on Wundagore Mountain, but their mother died and their father abandoned them. They were subsequently raised in the High Evolutionary’s citadel, but they ran away because it was weird being around all those talking animals.
June 1974 - February 1975 (Avengers vol. 1 #127-134; Giant Size Avengers #2 & 4) -- Agatha’s here, and she’s teaching Wanda magic. Wanda is now a mutant AND a witch.
December 1977 - September 1979 (Avengers vol. 1 #166 & 181-187; X-Men vol. 1 #125) -- Origin Story: The Good One. Wanda and Pietro are not the Franks’ kids and were not raised in the High Evolutionary’s citadel. They were raised by Django and Marya Maximoff, a Roma couple from Bulgaria (Transia, the town they’re from, will later become a country of its own), and it is implied that they don’t remember this because they suppressed their own memories. However, Django and Marya are not their birth parents. Their birth mother came to Wundagore Mountain, heavily pregnant, fleeing their father. She gave birth in the citadel, then left because she did not want to be alive anymore.
Meanwhile, Chris Claremont comes up with the idea for Magda, Magneto’s mysterious dead wife, but before the issue introducing her can even come out, John Byrne and some other guys go behind Claremont’s back and make Magda Wanda and Pietro’s mother. Which makes Magneto the husband their mother was running from and thus... None of the living characters know they are related, and it is editorial’s intention that they will never find out, though the connection is acknowledged openly in the letters column.
August 1981 (Uncanny X-Men vol. 1 #150) -- Claremont begins the long process of turning Magneto into a hero, and with that, we learn Magneto’s backstory as a Holocaust survivor. Claremont continues to add to this for the rest of his initial X-Men tenure (through 1991), but crucially, he never has him say that he’s Jewish. You’re supposed to understand that he is, and most of the audience does understand. It is very, very obvious (we even get a trip to Israel), BUT he does not say the exact words, “I am Jewish.”
November 1982 (Vision & the Scarlet Witch vol. 1 #4) -- The characters aren’t supposed to find out they’re related? Forget that. They all know now. I would argue that this issue also makes it obvious that Magneto is Jewish, but whatever, he doesn’t say, “I am Jewish.”
October 1985 (Vision & the Scarlet Witch vol. 2 #5) -- This is the earliest reference I can find to Magda being Romani. It feels like that can’t be the first time that was confirmed, but this post needs to get done some time.
October 1987 (New Mutants vol. 1 #61) -- Another “earliest reference I can find” scenario. I think this is the first time Magneto mentions being from Poland. At any rate, it is a time he mentions being from Poland, and it gets retconned anyway.
July 1993 (X-Men Unlimited vol. 1 #2) -- Due to editorial meddling, Magneto became a villain again in 1991, and according to comic book legend, editor-in-chief Bob Harras thought that Magneto being Jewish and a supervillain was proooooooblemaaaaaaatic. And if he can’t be both at the same time, one’s gotta go. Enter Gabrielle Haller, who is here to give a Ted Talk explaining Magneto’s new backstory. He’s Sinti Romani. That’s the change.
December 1997 (X-Men vol. 2 #72) -- It is revealed that the Erik Lensherr identity was an alias created by document forger Georg Odekirk in order to help Magneto hide from the authorities and find Magda... by pretending to be Sinti. Which, to me, implies that Magda herself was Sinti specifically, not Roma. Either way, Magneto says he’s not Romani, but once again does not say he’s Jewish.
September 2008 - January 2009 (X-Men: Magneto Testament #1-5) -- Magneto is officially, definitely Jewish. For real this time. No more ambiguity. He’s also German now, instead of Polish, and his name is Max Eisenhardt.
December 2014 (Avengers & X-Men: AXIS #7) -- Rick Remender, who is clearly invested in Wanda and Magneto’s relationship, is forced, possibly at gunpoint, to make them not related. This is revealed via a spell going wrong and not affecting Magneto when it’s supposed to affect Wanda’s family, which is the dictionary definition of “plausible deniability.”
January 2015 - June 2015 (Uncanny Avengers vol. 2 #1-5) -- Wanda and Pietro go to the High Evolutionary to figure out what their brand new backstory is. Turns out that, according to the High Evolutionary, they are not mutants and got their powers from being experimented on by him as babies. Their birth parents were their adoptive parents Django and Marya all along, which would make them Roma (not Sinti)... but something is weird about this reveal because Vision finds out there is more to the story and refuses to tell Wanda what it is or that he discovered any information at all.
March 2016 - January 2017 (Scarlet Witch vol. 2 #4-14) -- Nevermind, Django and Marya weren’t Wanda’s biological parents. Django is her uncle. His sister Natalya is her birth mother and a witch, and “the Scarlet Witch” is now a legacy title. Wanda was born in Serbia, but how that intersects with the Chthon thing is not explained. And Wanda’s dad is... the guy who murdered her mother. Who? Doesn’t say.
December 2017 - July 2019 -- A bonus! Marvel gives up on pretending Wanda and Magneto are not related... but mostly outside of comics. The official Marvel website runs articles just... saying they’re related. Official merchandise says they’re related. The mainline comics don’t touch it, but things are very suspicious.
