AI Augments HR, but a Human-First Approach Is Indispensable
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/ai-augments-hr-but-a-human-first-approach-is-indispensable/
AI Augments HR, but a Human-First Approach Is Indispensable
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to break new ground in HR, it is enjoying growing acceptance. A recent study revealed that nearly half the workers surveyed in the UK and the US believe AI could help reduce bias and unfair hiring treatment; many even think that AI could outperform humans in ensuring fairness during the hiring process.
With the increasing integration of machine learning (ML), natural language processing (NLP), and other AI technologies, we’re witnessing a visible, favorable shift toward smarter, more efficient ways of working. And, as a result, AI skills are growing in demand.
Yet, even as AI continues to reshape the way we hire and manage talent, the heart of HR will always be human—rooted in understanding, compassion, and connections that make each workplace unique.
AI: A new era of efficiency
Right from talent acquisition to employee advancement and retention, HR functions benefit greatly from AI. This is not only through the automation of various tasks but also via data-driven insights and recommendations in real time.
According to a recent survey, AI is expected to offer significant benefits in areas such as people analytics, talent recruitment, and learning and development. HR leaders recognize its potential in automating tasks such as candidate communication, resume screening, and assessments—activities that would otherwise demand significant manual effort. By taking over these repetitive jobs, AI allows HR teams to dedicate their time to strategic initiatives like shaping talent strategies, boosting employee engagement, and driving organizational success.
From automation to augmentation
As IBM rightly puts it, AI technology moves beyond automation to augmentation. AI’s transformational prowess lies in enhancing and amplifying human abilities, thereby unlocking a new level of efficiency that will allow the HR department to give consistent and equal attention to employees across the organization.
By leveraging AI, HR professionals can ensure that every employee receives personalized support and development opportunities based on their unique needs and career aspirations. Its ability to analyze data in real time and provide actionable insights means that HR is in a better position to proactively address issues, identify high-potential employees, and prepare strategies to foster growth and engagement. It’s not just about ticking boxes; it’s about demonstrating a commitment to building a more equitable workplace where every employee’s contributions are recognized and valued.
AI gets personal
AI’s potential goes beyond automating tasks; it empowers HR to make tailored decisions that enhance the employee experience. For instance, AI tools can track employees’ career trajectories and suggest potential career paths based on their skills, interests, and past performance, enabling HR managers to identify those with the potential for roles beyond their current positions.
Similarly, AI can recommend personalized learning and development programs tailored to employees’ skills and career goals, upskilling them and preparing them for future roles and promotions. Consider the impact of targeted development opportunities for an employee so close to meeting the qualifications for promotion but unaware of a skills gap that a well-designed learning program could easily address.
Don’t forget the human in human resources
There are numerous qualities that make humans, well, humans. The role of an HR professional requires them to channel many of these qualities to connect with employees and build meaningful relationships. In a way, they anchor employees to the organization, providing support, and guidance, and fostering a sense of belonging.
Preserving the human touch
According to recent data, only 41% of employees feel cared for in their workplace. Other studies also indicate that as many as 92% of job seekers prefer organizations that demonstrate empathy when looking for a job. Especially today, when many organizations operate in remote or hybrid models, where screen time mostly replaces in-person interactions, the need for human contact—even through online exchanges—is more important than ever. This makes every interaction an opportunity to connect and reinforce a culture where all employees feel valued, heard, and supported. Achieving this requires emotional intelligence, active listening, and an understanding of individual needs—qualities that no machine can replicate.
AI tools excel at streamlining workflows and analyzing data, but they fall short in areas requiring emotional depth and context. After all, solutions cannot be unidimensional or imposing. Conflict resolution, for example, requires an understanding of personal dynamics and addressing sensitive situations with empathy. Similarly, managing organizational change or supporting employee growth calls for insight into motivations and fears that can’t be gleaned from data alone. Problem-solving requires close collaboration and a genuine understanding of triggers and pain points, along with the ability to create an atmosphere that welcomes diverse and often challenging perspectives.
Only a human can truly empathize with another, offering comfort in times of distress, encouragement when somebody needs a boost, and appreciation to reward good work. Moreover, understanding and navigating cultural nuances and individual differences requires human discretion. Ultimately, when you think about reaching out to someone in the HR department, you think of a person and not a machine.
Let AI do the boring stuff so humans can do what they do best
Time-consuming, tedious, and repetitive tasks take up a lot of time, leaving little time and energy to spend on more meaningful employee interactions and activities to improve engagement.
What AI can create is a balanced workflow by taking over the monotonous must-dos, enabling humans to focus on key touchpoints in the employee lifecycle—onboarding, performance reviews, conflict resolution, team building, and so on. These are areas that cannot function adequately without human involvement.
That said, individuals who understand how to maximize the benefits of AI while maintaining the human touch that is crucial to their role will be in greater demand. As organizations increasingly turn to data-driven insights and automated processes, these professionals will be valued not only for their technical expertise but also for their ability to balance their innately human skills with the advantages offered by AI.
An ideal human-AI collaboration would look something like this—humans, with their creativity, intuition, and empathy, continue to excel where they shine brightest, while AI tirelessly sifts through data, uncovers hidden patterns, and fine-tunes each task to run like clockwork.

Web Development Company in Dubai  always factor in SEO best practice when developing, such as optimization of page speeds and meta tags, ensuring that your website is mobile-friendly and also clean coding. They are constantly improving your search engine ranking. More visibility brings more organic traffic or leads and sales.
5. Cost-Effective in the Long Run
A well-developed website minimizes the risk of technical issues, reduces maintenance costs, and ensures scalability as your business grows. Additionally, a professional website helps generate higher returns by attracting and retaining customers more effectively.
6. Focus on Core Business Activities
When outsourcing Web Development Company in UAE needs, you have more time to focus on core business activities. Professional companies handle everything from the initial design and development stages of a website through maintenance and updates, thus providing one with more time and resources to devote to important matters like customer service, marketing, and business expansion.
7. Support and Maintenance
Websites need to update and maintain themselves regularly. Otherwise, they get outdated and insecure. A professional website development company keeps providing support to solve problems, implement updates, and keep your website running perfectly. This proactive approach may avoid downtime and keep running your website smoothly, with a seamless experience for the users.
8. Competitive Advantage
Competition in the market is at its peak here in Dubai, and therefore, designing a professional website for yourself will keep you miles ahead of the competition. Well-performance of the website lends an impression of your business and brand with respectability and professionalism to your customer who tends to associate them. With this, your position further gets stabilized by strengthening their trust on your self.
Conclusion
In terms of succeeding in the currently trending digital world, a company of Dubai would need to enter partnership with a professional website development agency. Starting from providing solutions tailor-suited according to the client's business needs to improving the customer's experience and providing post-launch support so that you lead the market, these professional website development agencies are quite the backbone of your thriving business. This investment in professional website development will help you have a good standing online but also in generating long-term growth and profits.

Still thinking about "Dot and Bubble."
Specifically, I'm thinking about how the racists of FineTime aren't just written to be cruel and entitled, but downright childish too. Lindy - in a move that dovetails nicely into the episode's commentary on social media - has the attention span of a toddler, going on and on about how boring work is even though, from what we're shown, she doesn't have to do anything other than sit there and socialize, which is presumably what she'd be doing if she didn't have to work, right? But since this is something she has to do per orders of the gross old people, she complains. "You're no fun!" she yells at Gothic Paul, the only one in her group taking a mature stance on this issue (and, notably, the only one with a very small number of subscribers).
Lindy lacks the maturity and critical thinking skills we would expect from someone her age. Again, this is definitely a layer of the social media side of the episode's thesis, but she nevertheless demonstrates a kind of emotional dysregulation that's usually only seen in younger, developing children. Lindy does not think for herself and cannot adapt to changes in routine/the way things are "supposed" to be. When told a fact - the police are unavailable - Lindy repeats, "but I really need the police" over and over as if her need is going to magic up a change in reality. She parrots rules and rejects them in equal measure, driven solely by her current desires: "We don't do that [lower the bubble]."/"I can do whatever I want!" She moves from disgusted to infatuated to angry in the blink of an eye, with her anger characterized by childish outbursts and language: "Now shut up I hate you, I hate you, I hate you!" When faced with something life-threatening, Lindy's response is to a) distract herself (by watching Ricky) and b) find a hiding place. Even taking her terror into account, she responds to these situations like someone far younger would. If I cover my eyes the bad thing disappears. If I hide under the bed, I'm safe.
And of course, Lindy's body is monitored in the way you would a child's. She's constantly watched by others, both her peers and, presumably, by the Homeworld. She's told when she needs to use the restroom which for me was VERY evocative of a parent speaking to their potty training child, trying to get them to articulate when they need to go by informing them of when it's most likely. Hell, Lindy literally can't walk without the assistance of this AI parent.
Yes, there are plenty of moments that evoke the very stereotypical, entitled teenager - talk of "partying," bragging about clothes, being obsessed with the guy online - but even more, I think, evoke the child. When Lindy plays the recording of "Mummy," smiling shyly at the praise before throwing out the kind of insults you'd expect to hear on an elementary school playground - "You're stupid" - she reads like she's a kid. Which is a hell of a commentary on her racism. The episode doesn't say that Lindy is literally a child (she's not, she even snaps as much). The episode also doesn't try to claim that being childlike equals harmless (quite the opposite). But equating racism with a childish, dangerously inept, can't-even-walk-or-use-the-bathroom-by-herself white woman... damn if that's not a statement.

Opened Reddit by accident while trying to type in a bands youtube channel and saw this:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ChatGPT/comments/1guhsm4/well_this_is_it_boys_i_was_just_informed_from_my/
Well this is it boys. I was just informed from my boss and HR that my entire profession is being automated away. For context I work production in local news. Recently there’s been developments in AI driven systems that can do 100% of the production side of things which is, direct, audio operate, and graphic operate -all of those jobs are all now gone in one swoop. This has apparently been developed by the company Q ai. For the last decade I’ve worked in local news and have garnered skills I thought I would be able to take with me until my retirement, now at almost 30 years old, all of those job opportunities for me are gone in an instant. The only person that’s keeping their job is my manager, who will overlook the system and do maintenance if needed. That’s 20 jobs lost and 0 gained for our station. We were informed we are going to be the first station to implement this under our company. This means that as of now our entire production staff in our news station is being let go. Once the system is implemented and running smoothly then this system is going to be implemented nationwide (effectively eliminating tens of thousands of jobs.) There are going to be 0 new jobs built off of this AI platform. There are people I work with in their 50’s, single, no college education, no family, and no other place to land a job once this kicks in. I have no idea what’s going to happen to them. This is it guys. This is what our future with AI looks like. This isn’t creating any new jobs this is knocking out entire industry level jobs without replacing them.
Don't ever let any AI-supporters try to claim that AI will 'never make people lose their jobs!' because it's already been happening before this, and now this thread is full of stories of people talking about people being laid off from jobs they'd worked for 40 years to be replaced by AI :/
*this* is why it is so important to not tolerate generative AI, even when it's "just a joke" or "for a meme" I'm just eternally greatful that Tumblr hasn't been completely swarmed with AI generated images the way facebook has...

Ppl will complain about Pressure updates and devs while forgetting Pressure is NEW.
Ik tumblr has more users with common sense but the amount of tiktoks and tt users say that the game was at its PEAK two weeks after the game's release just bc you could climb Sebastian, he wasn't (visibly) married (it was always written into his character), and tolerated the players slightly more is INSANE.
Most games, at that, aren't at its peak gameplay and story a month after release!!
"The anti-climbing mechanic doesn't even fix anything!" Yeah because you climbed Sebastian several times over ofc at SOME point you're gonna get softlocked bro. Maybe try playing pressure for a reason aside from harassing seb.
I genuinely feel like the pressure fanbase tend to forget that Pressure is from roblox programmers in a small developing group. This isn't Hoyoverse or DevSisters where the game is fully polished with information on all characters and a finalized world building upon release because the company has more time, money, and skilled labor to develop that. It was made in ~1 year and a rushed release.
Not only that, but Pressure is a passion-project. It isn't driven by money, which means there's not much of an incentive to please the playerbase with fan service content that changes lore/characters so people can buy it. (Fan service as in any content made to make ppl happy) So, developers are going to choose what they want to do with the game bc they don't care whether or not you play. Zeal said so first thing in his interview with Breadian.
Amazing features that enrich gameplay and world building such as Sebastian killing walldwellers and the DiVine being able to kill you, Navi-AI turning into a new character, and several new room types are hinted to come to Pressure but nooo!!! Its somehow cooked and unsavable because of ONE form of characterization YOU deem incorrect not even knowing the character's lore. Right.
Edit: Pressure has a future as a roblox game that values storytelling and immersing the user in it's world. We need rblx games like it that put work over profit so people stay on the platform. Especially when older and new games have become money hungry over time.
Its really crazy how people be biting the hand that feeds them. Seb could easily be replaced with an expendable or unknown void like jeffery as a merchant npc if this continues. Online users will really be out her acting like the person who wrote and designed their favorite character is all of a sudden BAD!! And their favorite character is RUINED!!! And TAKEN AWAY FROM THEM!! Because their personality wasn't made to please the fanbase.
Yes, Sebastian hates you. Not pouty tsundere hates you, he is literally keeping you alive against his own will by mr. Lopee. He not tryna fuck bro 🔥

Determined to use her skills to fight inequality, South African computer scientist Raesetje Sefala set to work to build algorithms flagging poverty hotspots - developing datasets she hopes will help target aid, new housing, or clinics.
From crop analysis to medical diagnostics, artificial intelligence (AI) is already used in essential tasks worldwide, but Sefala and a growing number of fellow African developers are pioneering it to tackle their continent's particular challenges.
Local knowledge is vital for designing AI-driven solutions that work, Sefala said.
"If you don't have people with diverse experiences doing the research, it's easy to interpret the data in ways that will marginalise others," the 26-year old said from her home in Johannesburg.
Africa is the world's youngest and fastest-growing continent, and tech experts say young, home-grown AI developers have a vital role to play in designing applications to address local problems.
"For Africa to get out of poverty, it will take innovation and this can be revolutionary, because it's Africans doing things for Africa on their own," said Cina Lawson, Togo's minister of digital economy and transformation.
"We need to use cutting-edge solutions to our problems, because you don't solve problems in 2022 using methods of 20 years ago," Lawson told the Thomson Reuters Foundation in a video interview from the West African country.
Digital rights groups warn about AI's use in surveillance and the risk of discrimination, but Sefala said it can also be used to "serve the people behind the data points". ...
'Delivering Health'
As COVID-19 spread around the world in early 2020, government officials in Togo realized urgent action was needed to support informal workers who account for about 80% of the country's workforce, Lawson said.
"If you decide that everybody stays home, it means that this particular person isn't going to eat that day, it's as simple as that," she said.
In 10 days, the government built a mobile payment platform - called Novissi - to distribute cash to the vulnerable.
The government paired up with Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) think tank and the University of California, Berkeley, to build a poverty map of Togo using satellite imagery.
Using algorithms with the support of GiveDirectly, a nonprofit that uses AI to distribute cash transfers, the recipients earning less than $1.25 per day and living in the poorest districts were identified for a direct cash transfer.
"We texted them saying if you need financial help, please register," Lawson said, adding that beneficiaries' consent and data privacy had been prioritized.
The entire program reached 920,000 beneficiaries in need.
"Machine learning has the advantage of reaching so many people in a very short time and delivering help when people need it most," said Caroline Teti, a Kenya-based GiveDirectly director.
'Zero Representation'
Aiming to boost discussion about AI in Africa, computer scientists Benjamin Rosman and Ulrich Paquet co-founded the Deep Learning Indaba - a week-long gathering that started in South Africa - together with other colleagues in 2017.
"You used to get to the top AI conferences and there was zero representation from Africa, both in terms of papers and people, so we're all about finding cost effective ways to build a community," Paquet said in a video call.
In 2019, 27 smaller Indabas - called IndabaX - were rolled out across the continent, with some events hosting as many as 300 participants.
One of these offshoots was IndabaX Uganda, where founder Bruno Ssekiwere said participants shared information on using AI for social issues such as improving agriculture and treating malaria.
Another outcome from the South African Indaba was Masakhane - an organization that uses open-source, machine learning to translate African languages not typically found in online programs such as Google Translate.
On their site, the founders speak about the South African philosophy of "Ubuntu" - a term generally meaning "humanity" - as part of their organization's values.
"This philosophy calls for collaboration and participation and community," reads their site, a philosophy that Ssekiwere, Paquet, and Rosman said has now become the driving value for AI research in Africa.
Inclusion
Now that Sefala has built a dataset of South Africa's suburbs and townships, she plans to collaborate with domain experts and communities to refine it, deepen inequality research and improve the algorithms.
"Making datasets easily available opens the door for new mechanisms and techniques for policy-making around desegregation, housing, and access to economic opportunity," she said.
African AI leaders say building more complete datasets will also help tackle biases baked into algorithms.
"Imagine rolling out Novissi in Benin, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Ivory Coast ... then the algorithm will be trained with understanding poverty in West Africa," Lawson said.
"If there are ever ways to fight bias in tech, it's by increasing diverse datasets ... we need to contribute more," she said.
But contributing more will require increased funding for African projects and wider access to computer science education and technology in general, Sefala said.
Despite such obstacles, Lawson said "technology will be Africa's savior".
"Let's use what is cutting edge and apply it straight away or as a continent we will never get out of poverty," she said. "It's really as simple as that."

ok chipping away at this AI workshop and here is a first stab at articulating some learning goals. in this two-workshop series, I want students to:
explore and discuss the limits of AI as a research tool (including issues around AI hallucinations and “overcertainty”, sources consulted & source credibility, data privacy and security, etc)
develop concrete strategies for using AI more effectively in research contexts (including how to coach AI tools to give more rigorous search results + how to prompt AI to give substantive feedback rather than generating content for you)
differentiate between situations where using AI is shortchanging your learning/growth vs. helping you automate rote tasks that free up energy to do substantive work. maybe we’ll evaluate different hypothetical scenarios here and I’ll ask students to argue both sides before deciding on a stance… I think we can also work in some discussion here about the underlying emotional stuff that might drive us to use generative AI in inappropriate or unproductive ways—imposter syndrome, fear of falling behind or not measuring up to others, poor time management, etc.
practice having conversations about the use of AI in research with faculty mentors and peers (basically I want them to understand that adults are also learning this stuff in real time and also have a wide range of attitudes towards generative AI, and may not know how to have productive conversations about it with students… I certainly feel that way myself!! so I want to give them some tools for starting those conversations and clarifying mentor expectations around AI use)
can’t figure out how to articulate this as a learning outcome yet but I am hoping that we can do a mix of this focused work on “here are concrete strategies for dealing with these tools” + bigger-picture reflection on what learning is for and why we are personally driven to learn/develop expertise/create new knowledge. I want one of the big overarching aims of the summer seminar to be helping students articulate their identity, purpose, and values as researchers… and then we’ll think together about how all this skill development stuff we’re doing fits into that larger framework of why we care about this work and why we’ve chosen to pursue it.
