do you know if demanding a ceasfire is within ICJ means? i'm not trying to like, idk, defend them or anything, i'm just genuinely curious if they could have actually demanded that, and failed to do so, or if that was never going to be an option
literally speaking? yes, of course it was possible for the ICJ to demand a ceasefire. The South African legal team put up a truly bulletproof case - they would not have asked for a ceasefire if it was not an actual option. Practically speaking? Calling for a ceasefire would've opened up the ICJ to a lot of flack from all the fanatics still moaning about Israel's "right to defend itself". By asking Israel to simply assure protections for Palestinian civilians (which nobody could contest without outwardly seeming like a psychopath), they're trying to walk a safer path.
In doing so however, they've assured that for the next month, Palestinians will most likely undergo the worst barrage of bombing and attacks yet, until Israel has to report back to the ICJ (if they decide to).

Re: the new LOTR movie…
I think it’s worth remembering that there’s a whole slew of (especially younger) people for whom this movie might be their first exposure to Tolkien, just as RoP was for some, and the original PJ movies were for others before that, and the Bakshi animation was for others before that, etc. And anything that inspires someone to pick up a copy of LOTR (or the Hobbit or Silm) and become a fan is good in my book. Fandoms need newer and younger people to stay vibrant and stable over the long run. So even if the movie ends up sucking by my own standards, it can still do some good. And I wouldn’t want the first thing a new fan hears when coming into the fandom to be me bagging on the thing that brought them there. That doesn’t mean anyone has to like or praise any particular piece of content, but I think it’s worth keeping in mind when we think about how we’re going to talk about that content and the people who enjoyed it.

strawberries & lemonade
i have wanted to write something for this month’s @steddiemicrofic challenge, but i have been unable to get my brain to do anything with it for some reason. however! that ended tonight and i was able to write this and now i’m gonna think about witch!steve for the rest of forever. thank you @sailing-through-hawkins and @hammity-hammer for enabling me. alternative title: how much world building can rowan fit into this ficlet? answer: tbd
prompt: charm || word count: 548 || rated: t
If you needed something magic related, there was only one place in Hawkins to find it.
Okay, well, maybe that was a lie, but there was only one place that anyone with any self respect would go to. Which is why Eddie found himself approaching the Harrington cottage at the barrier between town and the wilds.
Eying the edge of the wilds warily, Eddie carefully made his way up the stone path to the front door. When he looked up at the front door, he was surprised to see the witch leaning against the railing of his porch. He wasn’t exactly what Eddie had been expecting; he was wearing a worn yellow shirt with brown leggings, and some brown leather boots. Atop his head wasn’t a stereotypical witch hat, but his hair was tucked into what appeared to be a crocheted hair bandana. All of that is to say, he didn’t look like who Eddie had expected to find when he left the small place he called home that afternoon.
“Well met,” Eddie breathed, eyes wide as he met Steve’s gaze head on.
“Well met,” Steve returned, smiling slightly. He gestured towards a small set up where he had put out lemonade and fresh fruit, “Come sit. We can talk.” Eddie’s stomach immediately growled as he walked up the steps to sit where Steve had motioned.
“Are the stories true?” Eddie asked, looking at the food and beverage with apprehension. Steve sat across from him, sitting with his legs folded under him.
“What stories?” Steve asked, before noticing his apprehensive demeanor and snorted. “No.”
Eddie flushed, ducking his head as he muttered a quiet, but sincere apology. He reached out and grabbed a strawberry, humming happily as he bit into it.
“My uncle is sick,” Eddie said, as he sipped the lemonade. The witch hummed, eating one of the strawberries himself. “I heard you’re the best.”
“You heard correctly,” Steve said, nodding. “What ails him?”
“We..we think it’s a curse.”
“We?”
“I,” Eddie amended, looking sheepish. “I think it’s a curse.”
Steve hummed and looked at Eddie expectantly, which the man took as a sign to continue. He explained the little he did know about his uncle’s condition, a persistent fever that refused to go down, with fever dreams of black dogs plaguing his fitful sleep. All the while, Steve listened carefully, looking more and more angry as he continued.
“I agree with your assessment,” Steve said, standing abruptly. “Stay here.” He said before disappearing into the cottage, leaving Eddie sitting on his porch alone. When he returned, Steve held out a small charm. Eddie hesitated briefly before grabbing it.
“Put this beneath his pillow for three nights, and the fever will break and the dreams will cease,” Steve explained, eyebrows furrowed, betraying his concern. “Nights only,” He reiterated. Eddie nodded slowly, peering at the small charm curiously.
After a moment, Eddie looked up at the witch. “I don’t have a lot to offer in return,” he admitted guiltily.
Steve smiled softly, “I only ask for a boon.”
“A boon?”
“You will know,” Steve said, reaching out for Eddie’s hand, covering it completely with his own. Eddie hissed, shaking it out before realizing Steve had seared his sigil onto the back of his hand. “And you will come.”

I came across an interesting callback during my reading/research; in Ghosts of Onyx, Kelly is skeptical of the S-IIIs' battle-readiness and refers to them as "kids" - a statement that Kurt immediately refutes:
Tumblr media
and then in Last Light when Lopis is saying something along the lines of "these kids need medical attention," Fred tells her the exact same thing:
Tumblr media
...which I thought was an interesting response, because I remembered him being sympathetic to the Gammas at the end of Ghosts...
Tumblr media
and the events of these books are only about seven months apart in the greater Halo timeline (not accounting for the slipspace/time-continuum fuckery going on with Onyx) so it seemed a little uncharacteristic to me at first (and you can chalk some of it up to author characterization, sure) but honestly? It's basically the same situation in both cases: someone close to the S-IIIs is defending their status and capability against a skeptical "outsider" opinion (Kelly is obviously less of an outsider than Veta, but the comparison holds up) and vouching for them in the face of doubt. It's a fun little parallel to draw.

YOU'RE BREAKING MY HEART!!! WHY COULDN'T CAMELLIA BEEN IMMORTAL?! DON'T SEPARATE THE GAYS PLEASE!!!!
(Can you tell I'm a Leshycat fan?)
Tumblr media
In a cult where one of the beliefs is Reincarnation and how this allows the renewal of cycles for every being, living among mortals without the "perks" of being one is a curse.
The ex-bishops wear the golden skull necklace for a reason, since being immortal is nothing more than a punishment here.
(Fan of Leshycat here too! Camellia had a great life to be fair, with a peaceful death at a really old age, but yeeah...the False Prophet is a bit mean...yeah).

As a musical episode enjoyer the strange new worlds musical got me thinking what would 911 have to do for a successful (to me) musical episode.
They must
Have a logical reason why everyone is singing.
Buffy did this with a singing demon. Both scrubs and greys anatomy with some kind of head injury (scrubs a patient. grey's one of their own) even stevens was a literally fever dream, strange new worlds their communications officer had played a song into folded space. 911 can easily work something into the episode that will make sense, isn't bobby already a confirmed fellow musical enjoyer?
2. Original plot relevant songs.
none of this jukebox shit like grey's did (breathe 2am and the story i'm not talking to you, you're wonderful, amazing, beautiful, this is about CALM DOWN). I still occasionally listen to the once more with feelings and my musical soundtracks. the songs fuckin' slap. and shit, this show comes from the Glee guys, they can do this.
3. some meta jokes about the singing
i have nothing more to say about this other than i love a fourth wall break. a little wink and nod to the audience.
4. At least one belting ballad for Karen Wilson
Tracie is a veteran of the stage. That's Joanne. USE HER TO HER FULL POTENTIAL
5. Ryan dancing.
he can sing too, but mostly let that man dance.

I think Lewis' move to Ferrari is sort of his last hurrah before he retires.
Ferrari, despite being one of the most legendary teams in motorsport, is not doing very good atm. And I find it a bit hard to believe that this 7-time World Champion would leave Mercedes (who is admittedly not doing very well either) to Ferrari.
But, Ferrari is a legendary team and driving for them would be an honor, no matter the team's actual performance.
So, I can imagine Lewis going to Ferrari and drive for them for a season or two, then he retires. Just to say he was a Ferrari driver.

It really is funny like that. Life goes on. Too bad your new baby cousin couldn't meet his great-grandfather. I'm sure he will hear stories about him though ❤️
