What's this blog for?

My goal is to follow the "Dracula Daily" tag for the year 2024 and reblog story-relevant art. This means I want it to turn out almost like a picture book -- where there's one tag for every Dracula Daily date, and you can look through the fanart for each date.

I will also gradually be reblogging art from the previous years (but keeping it spoiler-free!) You can find the art for each year under the tags "2024", "2023" and "2022", as well as in their respective date tags.

Reblog guidelines:

I try to keep it as story-relevant as possible.* This means that I won't reblog AU art, most character portraits with no further context, and similar things. Some of it may be a bit of a gray zone. For example: character portraits that feature a specific character who only appears in one or two entries, I will probably reblog for that entry. Character portraits of, let's say, Jonathan I won't reblog bc that's too unspecific, UNLESS there is something linking it - again - to a specific part of the book that's easy to pinpoint, like the very first days of his journey. *Note: "story-relevant" doesn't mean "100% text-accurate". Joke posts and art related more to the general impression of an entry that are not direct illustrations of a scene absolutely count!

Spoiler policy:

This blog will be spoiler-free for the 2024 season! Any art from the previous years that concerns a later date will only be posted when that date comes around. Please note: Sometimes a piece of art will allude to or foreshadow things that happen further on in the story, while definitely belonging to a date that has already happened! For these cases I will use the tag "spoilery content" - please blacklist that tag if you want to avoid possible spoilers completely! [Here's an example of what sort of things I'd consider to belong under that tag. Spoilery for Lucy's storyline so view under your own risk.]

What about things like collages, edits and moodboards?

I'm not opposed to reblogging them, too! They only need to be made specific enough so they can be attached to a specific entry. But since they're not my first priority when scanning the tags for pictures (my brain skips anything that's not a drawing almost on autopilot), I've likely missed them all. You're welcome to send something in that you think fits here!

Your art doesn’t have to be done on time and you don’t have to do all prompts. First and foremost, have fun!

Since this month ends with Halloween, I expect some art may involve horror themes, and if so, will be tagged appropriately. This is an appeal especially to writers, as I’m not sure I’ll be able to read every single piece, to tag your works with proper warnings, please.

Hello and welcome to the inaugural Stellar Firma Anniversary Prompt Month!

WHAT IS THIS EVENT? 

Remember the finale? Remember how it was almost a year ago? Well, we do! And we’re here to run a prompt event to celebrate the ending of our favourite show. Over the month leading up to the anniversary of episode 76, we’ll be posting prompts relating to various aspects of Stellar Firma, with each week’s prompts grouped around a specific theme (which you can find below).

You can create a work for all prompts, or whichever individual ones take your fancy! There are no mandatory requirements for this event, or even a requirement to sign up at all. This is entirely on your own terms: you can create whatever you want, whenever you want. You don’t even have to post your works during the week that it’s related to! So long as it’s inspired by a prompt for this event (and tagged using the guidelines outlined below!), we’ll reblog it on our official tumblr @stellarfirmafanevents and include it in the AO3 Collection if you choose to publish there.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Every week, starting from 25/4/22 until 23/5/22 (the finale anniversary), we’ll post a group of prompts in the following format, which will be inspired by a specific theme featuring in Stellar Firma. Here’s an example:

WEEK 1: WHAT WAS 

     Pre-Canon — Clones / Home and Schooldays / Earth

So! What does this mean? Well, we’re looking at several prompts surrounding the theme ‘what was’. To help with this very broad theme, we’ve included several starting points: the slightly less-broad ‘pre-canon’, and then three specific prompts branching from that.

Well, what could I create from this? I could make a work (fic, art, audio cut, etc. The medium is your choice!) focusing on the fall of Earth, I could make something about Trexel and Bathin’s relationship at school! More widely (focusing on the ‘pre-canon’ prompt), I could create a work looking at Hartro’s fight to become Line Manager. Zooming even further out, I could even examine the nature of impermanence and capitalism when looked at through the lens of Stellar Firma using a 5k essay.

Or I could doodle some clones.

It’s up to you!

There isn’t even a requirement to make this work during Week 1! You could wait until the anniversary itself to post this work, or create Week 5 works in Week 2. If it’s in some way related to Stellar Firma and these prompts, it’s great.

HOW DOES POSTING WORK?

There is an AO3 collection! If you upload your work(s) to AO3, you can add it to the collection and one of our delightful mods will approve the work to be included. Please include the tag SFAPM22 in your AO3 tags!

We have an official Tumblr! Surprise, you’re looking at it! If you tag your work with SFAPM22 and/or give @stellarfirmafanevents a mention when posting to Tumblr, we’ll reblog it to the Stellar Firma Fan Events account. 

At the end of the challenge (allowing a few days for late entries), we’ll be posting a link to the AO3 collection on Twitter, and tagging the official Rusty Quill account so that they know exactly how much this podcast means to us. If you don’t want your works to be seen by the cast and crew of Rusty Quill, please tag it with ‘Do Not Archive’, and they will know to avoid them.

WHAT’S THE POLICY ON NSFW/NSFA?

Given this is an open event without signing up, where people are free to interpret the provided prompts as they see fit, NSFW and NSFA content is allowed and welcome. 

The mods do not have the capacity, nor the desire, to check everyone's age, but we ask all participants below the age of 18 to only create SFW works (and stick to AO3's Terms of Use regarding consumption) and urge all participants above the age of 18 to ensure their works are reasonably marked as such: tag all posts appropriately on all platforms, rate them as E (Explicit) on AO3, and share links to your works only in the NSFW and NSFA categories of the event’s Discord server. If we discover that a NSFW or NSFA contribution was created by a minor, we will be removing it from the official AO3 collection. Repeated concerns can lead to the individual minor being excluded from the official server, and potentially from future events.

WHAT’S THE POLICY ON FANDOM PURITY/WANK?

In the words of Rusty Quill itself, ‘all headcanons are valid’. You can create whatever ship, smut, etc you want, so long as all NSFW and NSFA content is kept to adults. Fandom wank has no place in this event — or any organised by this team of mods — and while we will not be performing background checks, any harassment and/or bullying of participants will not be tolerated. 

We will give you as many warnings as we believe necessary, but should this kind of behaviour continue after such warnings (amount depending on severity of behaviour), you will be excluded from the mod team’s events for the next two years (including this one). Obviously, we can’t stop you from creating and posting works inspired by the public prompts list, but we will not include your works in the official AO3 collection, exclude you from the Discord server, and not reblog your works to this Tumblr blog.

If you wish to understand why you have been excluded from the event, or why you have been given a warning, we will be happy to discuss it with you, but please note that harassment of mods is likewise untolerated.

IS THERE A DISCORD?

We have an official Discord server! That’s right! It is not currently open, but we’ll be publishing the link a few weeks before prompts start. Primarily, this server should be a place for brainstorming your ideas for this event, as well as cheerleading others on. 

Don’t worry! You do not have to be participating in this event as a creator or in any other capacity than as a consumer to be on the server. Therefore, if you originally join with the intentions of creating something, and then realise you have no inspiration… that’s absolutely fine! You could beta another participant’s work, you could even just hype others up from the sidelines. So long as you’re nice, you’re allowed to be there. Participation in this event is as much about celebrating and bringing together fans, as it is about celebrating the end of our podcast.

So I got to see Makiba Foster give a talk through the Internet Archive on archiving the Black Diaspora, and her work using web archiving tools to preserve documenting Black experiences and digitally-born content online and one of the things she presented on was the #Syllabus website which is an entire website of open-access syllabi on issues directly related to Black lives and history, assembled by experts. There are over 300 source collections on there right now on all kinds of topics--for a general idea of the content, three of the items at the top of the list are “Confederate Monuments Syllabus, A Crowdsourcing Project About Confederate Monuments and Civil War Memory,” “Black Womanhood: The Syllabus,” and “The Black Lives Canada Syllabus // #BlackLivesCDNSyllabus.” As far as I can tell almost all of them feature items that are open-access all the way down, and they’ve been backed up by the Wayback machine so they won’t disappear. If you’ve ever been told to educate yourself and weren’t sure where to start, or if you ever wanted to just send someone a link instead of having a whole conversation again, this might be helpful to you.

•prince himbo himself adolin kholin watching him come down the street with five hundred wall guards the chapter after that going ‘of COURSE he’s done this. and he’s probably their leader.’

•shallan davar, peak theater kid, stripping naked under an illusion in the middle of the street for The Drama as she works through a literally insane identity crisis

•adolin seeing shallan wearing the coat and hat she still doesn’t think of as something that she deserves and going ‘SHALLAN you look SO GOOD!!’ i love him i love him for her i love them.

•adolin realizing he is now in fact King Himbo and packing that thought away to do nothing with it for a while.

re: Rung and the Guiding Hand, I really love the history and consequences of the reinterpretations of Primus as almighty powerful being but also sometimes I just want to see a world where all the Cybertronians remember who their gods are and just treat it as a fact of life.

by this i mean sometimes when a cohort from this species of jocks is doing interplanetary negotiations they see a tiny nerd going by and immediately go ‘HI RUNG ARE YOU PROUD OF US’ and inform the aliens ‘this is our DAD we love him he has eyebrows’ and sometimes the alien species look at the cybertronians and go ‘?? shouldn’t he be...big?’ and the cybertronians go ‘no that’s what he has US for’

"What?

Steve McGarrett is clearly confused. He knows that and he hopes Kono notices it and just drop the subject. He usually doesn't think much if he is showing his emotions in the right way or not, but it feels important right now. Unfortunately Kono seems to ignore his expressions and keeps waiting for the answer.

"It's not a complicated question, boss."

I know, it's just that... Where did this come from?"

Kono, who is staring her boss from across his table, changes her weight to the other leg before answering his question. "Well, it looks like it."

A laughter skips from Steve's mouth. "It looks like that I'm in love with Danno, you say?"

Kono sighed because doesn't want to discuss that if Steve doesn't what to take it seriously. She steps out his office, when she doesn get an answer, but McGarrett goes after her. He reaches her halfway to her office and when he speaks his voices echoes thorugh the empty headquarters.

"Hey Kono, Kono. What's wrong?"

"It's just that you two are just stupid"

"Wait a minute let's talk this through. Why do you think I'm in love with Danny?".

"First because you say it all the time. Second because everybody can see it"

"What do you mean everybody?" Now Kono has Steve's full attention. "Everyone thinks I'm in love with Danno?"

Kono simply nods.

"Well, I'm not. I love him as my best bro, my partner, and that's it. I don't know where you see more than that"

Again Kono nods. Just nods.

But there's also that look and Steve knows she is agreeing because she doesn't want to argue and not because she actually agrees with what was said. "Ok boss, if you say so. Jus drop it. See you tomorrow, okay?"

Question 12: Do you know who Mondo is?

Main findings: “What kinda lizard is this dude?” - a question I do not know how to answer & most people (58.9% at least) know him. He is from the Japanese-only radio drama. He is an assistant to Meowth, Jessie, and James in Kanto. 

Question 13: I read Team Rocket and/or Rocketshipping-related fanfiction...

Main findings: Almost every TR fan has read TR-related fanfiction with about 49.5% of people reading ‘sometimes’ or ‘frequently’. Some incentive to keep writing!

Question 14:  If I read Team Rocket/Rocketshipping-related Fanfiction, I will most likely choose this platform:

Main finding: Archive of Our own is where most people (70.5%) go first. Fanfiction.net is the second most common, with 47.4% choosing that platform. People also go on Wattpad, Pixiv, Quotev, Spirit, and Tumblr to read TR-related fanfiction. 

Question 15: I've written Team Rocket/Rocketshipping-related fanfiction...

Main findings: at least 68.4% of fans have never published a completed fanfic before. Oneshots seem to be the most commonly published. 

Question 16: I am actively writing Team Rocket/Rocketshipping-related Fanfiction...

Main finding: At least 9.5% of fans are actively writing fanfictions. this means we must up the speed and mass of production!

Question 17: Do you or have you ever Beta-read a Pokemon-themed fanwork? 

Main findings: Only about 7.4% of fans have beta-read. About 43.2% might beta in the future and about 44.2% have never beta-read and probably never will. 

(A beta-reader is someone who reads a fanfic before or right after it’s published and gives the writer tips on how to improve the story. Some betas check mostly spelling/grammar some do a lot more. Many writers love having betas and it is a compliment to most if you offer to beta a story for them.)

Question 18: I am also a fan of the following ships: 

Main findings: The most common ships people had alongside Rocketshipping was Pokeshipping with at least 48.4% shipping, Contestshiping with 34.7%,  Appealshipping with 28.4%, Palletshipping at 23.2%, and Amourshipping with 21.2%. Other popular ships include Diamondshipping, Diodesshipping, Gymshipping, Geekchicshipping, Wishfulshipping, and Pearlshipping. Several people brought up game/manga only ships and Neoshipping. About 20% of fans said that Rocketshipping was their only ship. Some of these ships I never heard of!

Question 19: What do you want fanfiction writers to include in their stories?

Main findings: Almost everyone had something to say. It was fun reading through these. People seem to like backstories, keeping the characters in-character, and making sure to include Meowth most of all:)

Question 20: Have you ever drawn and published and/or uploaded Team Rocket-related fanart (includes painting, sketches, pixel arts, and related mediums). 

Main findings: About 30.5% of fans made/make art, 28.4% have made art that they never published, about 24.2% have never made fanart and don’t think they ever will, and about 10.5% are in the process of making fanart. You should publish your art! Make it and send it to @teamrocketfanart.tumblr.com, please.

Question 21:   If I upload/publish art, it will most likely be on:

Main findings: Most fans would publish their art on Tumblr (78.9%). Other popular platforms include DeviantArt, Wattpad, Instagram, Twitter, Pixiv, Facebook, and forums. 5.3% of fans have a personal website or non-Tumblr blog that they upload onto. 

Question 22: When artists make Team Rocket-related Fanart, what do you like them to include?

Main findings: 58.9% of people believe that it is important for there to be a clear description of who did the art, 48.4% of people want Meowth included, 46.3% want there to be tags with the names of the people, Pokemon, and/or places depicted, 37.9% of people want tags/warnings for NSFW pieces, 35.8% of people want color, 32.6% of people want fanart that is ‘in-character’, 29.5% of people especially like SWF pieces (whereas 11.6% especially like NSFW pieces), about 26.3% have no preferences, and 24.2% like when the artist includes other members of Team Rocket. 

Question 23:  If I want to view Team Rocket-related fanart, I am most likely to...

Main findings: When looking for TR art, 75.8% of people are most likely to go to Tumblr, search from there, or browse, 49.5% of people go to Tumblr and visit the page of someone who frequently posts/reblogs Team Rocket fanart,  33.7% of people type what they want into a search engine, 30.5% of people goto DeviantArt, and other popular places to go are Twitter and Pixiv.

Question 24: About how many Team Rocket fans have you communicated with on the internet?

Main findings: Most fans (61.1%) have communicated with less than five other TR fans on the internet. 17.9% have communicated with between six and ten fans, and 12.6% have communicated with eleven to twenty. I think we all should communicate more. I’m open to chat (sometimes).

Fandom Questions

1. What was the first fandom you got involved in?

Properly? Probably Pokemon. I’ve been writing fanfiction for it for years.

2. What is your latest fandom?

Funnily enough, Sonic, despite being a fan since I was like seven years old. I’ve just never seriously got into it since then until now.

3. What is the best fandom you’ve ever been involved in?

The Pokemon fandom. I’ve made some awesome friends in it.

4. Do you regret getting involved in any fandoms?

You hear things, but I’ve not really come across any toxicity besides the reaction to the Sonic Movie.

5. Which fandoms have your written fanfiction for?

A good few, but the only ones you’ll find are Pokemon, Sonic and Zootopia.

6. List your OTP from each fandom you’ve been involved in.

Zootopia - Judy/Nick

Sonic - Shadow/Rouge, Silver/Blaze

Pokemon - I don’t usually ship in Pokemon, but Jessie/James because reasons

Sonic/Amy. Sorry. Some art is cute, but it’s not my jam.

Shadow/Maria. I don’t ship animals with humans.

I also don’t ship yaoi/yuri pairings.

I do not poop on any ship. If it’s one I’m not fond of, I just scroll on and leave it be. Shipping can be pretty toxic sometimes, and I just don’t get it at all.

8. How did you get involved in your latest fandom?

I was writing Mask Behind the Monster and my husband’s aunt suggested I join a specific Sonic forum to post it in. So I joined the Amino and posted it, all nervous. The reception blew me away, and I met some awesome people, so I stuck around.

9. What are the best things about your current fandom?

The friends I’ve made.

10.  Is there a fandom you read fic from but don’t write in?

Probably. Can’t think of any off the top of my head.

I’m also not a fan of most Pokemon anime ships.

Knuckles/Amy. I still have a soft spot for it.

Amy/Espio. I went through a phase... Read a couple of ‘fics and thought ‘Why not? Sounds like fun.’ XD

Not really. As much as I like shipping, because I’m a fluff-junkie, I have to just like it.

Erm... if I remember right, Some cringy self-insert Pokemon ‘fic when I was like 14/15.

Everything I regret writing has been deleted.

23. Name a fic you’ve written that you’re especially fond of & explain why you like it.

The End and Mask Behind the Monster. I can’t choose one over the other. They were both written with a lot of meaning and emotion behind them, and I have a soft spot for both.

24. What fic do you desperately need to rewrite or edit?

I keep thinking about re-writing The End, but I worry it will lose its fire if I do...

25. What’s your most popular fanfic?

I think... THINK... it’s Mask Behind the Monster.

26. How do you come up with your fanfic titles?

To Title is hard. System:Reboot was a suggestion off a friend who I have lost touch with. Its working title is ‘Hacked’. A lot of my stories have preliminary working titles until I come up with something. The End was named after a song. Confectionary Conundrum was originally called ‘Sugar Snow’ which is the name of the sweet shop in that story. The Mainframe Saga’s Scrivener file is still called ‘Datastream’. Its separate books have been renamed as I’ve been ‘planning’ them out (as much as I plan).

27. What do you hate more: Coming up with titles or writing summaries?

Probably summaries, because FFNet leaves very little space to do so.

28. If someone were to draw a piece of fanart for your story, which story would it be and what would the picture be of?

I have actually had fanart, so this is hard to say. A lot of people like drawing my cyberpunk Infinite redesign which has surprised me.

29. Do you have a beta reader? Why/Why not?

My husband proof-reads my stuff, and then I question him on it. I don’t have a beta. I’ve thought about it, but I stick to a strict time-frame when it comes to uploads where I strictly give myself very little leniency. So if it wasn’t beta’d in time, I’d get a little frustrated and I do not like to pester people. I also worry I’ll be told to edit and cut a LOT, and I don’t like to butcher my ‘fics. I do that enough while I’m writing 8D

30. What inspires you to write?

My faith. That is a BIG one. You will find references and metaphors to my faith throughout my stories. Particularly in The End and The Mask Behind the Monster. Music is another huge inspiration drive. I’ve come up with entire scenes and even plots or sub-plots listening to music. I was just on a walk listening to some cyberpunk tracks when I got the spark for The Mainframe Saga.

31. What’s the nicest thing someone has ever said about your writing?

Oh boy. Where do I start? I think I was especially moved when someone told me they read The Mask Behind the Monster to their sisters.

32. Do you listen to music when you write or does music inspire you? If so, which band or genre of music does it for you?

Yes. A lot. I listen to a variety of stuff from Christian rock and EDM to cyberpunk instrumental tracks. Main bands are Thousand Foot Krutch, Family Force Five, Cruxshadows, Holon, Misanthropix, Scandroid and Celldweller.

33. Do you write oneshots, multi-chapter fics or huuuuuge epics?

It really varies. I lean towards epics. Even Glitched ended up being longer than planned, if memory serves, although it’s not epic length. The Mainframe Saga is made up of chaptered ‘fics, ficlets and one-shots.

34. What’s the word count on your longest fic?

I couldn’t tell you, because Scrivener crashes when I try to get the word count for System:Reboot XD

35. Do you write drabbles? If so, what do you normally write them about?

I don’t, but I have thought about it.

36. What’s your favourite genre to write?

Sci-Fi. Hands down.

37. First person or third person - what do you write in and why?

I prefer third person, particularly restricted third person, because it is easier to write about different characters. That way the reader knows what’s going on when the main cast do not. I was very surprised I enjoyed writing first person so much in Mask Behind the Monster, though. But I did leap into third person a couple of times to give a wider perspective.

38. Do you use established canon characters or do you create OCs?

I love creating OCs. But I will use canon characters in the Sonic fandom.

39. What is you greatest strength as a writer?

From what I’ve been told, character development.

40. What do you struggle the most with in your writing?

Violence. And tragic back stories. I have legit questioned my sanity when coming up with scenes that include this.

Also... when I write fluff... I kind of grind to a halt and struggle through it. Often interspersed with gazing from the window and thinking well further ahead than where I’m currently at. This often results in forgetting dialogue I think up during my garden gazing.

43. Is there anyone in your fandom who really inspires you?

Ambyssin has provided some amazing constructive criticism on System:Reboot which has resulted in me making a terrifying antagonist out of Gadget the Wolf. I strongly hope no other antagonists will develop what I have nicknamed ‘Socket Syndrome’. His drive and commitment to his writing has been pretty inspirational, too.

But in all fairness, I think most, if not all, of my writing friends have been inspirational and very supportive. I offer digital high-fives to each and every one of you.

44. What ship do you feel needs more attention?

I can’t think of any. People should write what they like. And I believe if you want to read it, and it doesn’t exist, then you should write it yourself if you can.

45. What is your all time favourite fanfic?

Guiding Light by Ambyssin. It’s not often I fall in love with a fanfic.

Fall From Power by Lordius Dannius is another.

46. If someone was to read one of your fanfics, which fic would you recommend to them and why?

The End or The Mask Behind the Monster, because they’re pretty special to me.

FFNet. I’ve been posting there for years. I’m iffy on AO3. I’ve considered posting to Tumblr, but my solution to that is to post links and artwork instead.

If I feel I have something to say, I’ll post a review. I like to make sure I do so, though, and I have been known to make notes on my computer and post reviews in bulk to works posted on Serebii.

I love comments, and I will try to respond to each one. Reblogs are totally welcome!

50. How did you get into reading and/or writing fanfiction?

I’ve been writing for many, many years. Since before I was ten years old. Pokemon likely got me into fanfiction. I can’t remember writing it for anything else prior to that cringy ‘fic I mentioned earlier (which we will never, ever talk about. Ever.)

51. Rant or Gush about one thing you love or hate in the world of fanfiction! Go!

I love the creativity behind it, especially OCs. Pokemon OCs are my favourites, particularly in PMD or Pokecentric settings. Both Sonic and Pokemon offer a lot of inspiration to create OCs as the worlds are both pretty vast. AUs and canon settings both offer massive scope for creativity. It’s seeing peoples’ headcanons and takes on the franchises that I really enjoy. Yes, I do like shipping, but a story does NOT need it to be a good story. It’s the way people tell it that matters more to me.

I know this says ‘one thing’. But I just want to make it clear, the one part of fanfiction I don’t like, is M-rated stuff. And I will not read it. It... bugs me when a ‘fic I’ve been enjoying suddenly changes its rating XD
