OOC | Valentina & the Tournament
so as per usual, our girl is scheming <3
so some stuff ive already chatted abt a bit:
Valentina wakes up everyday and everyday decides to be the WORST I swear 💀💀💀 honestly I do think eithne does get a reprieve when in public bc Valentina wants to give the impression that they’re one big happy family and def none of her kids are serving the others why would you even ~imagine such a ludicrous thing 👀😅 no but yeah!! Adhkjfdg the more I think abt it the more I think Valentina may have somehow incentivized the og girls all showing up for at least one of the tournament days as a happy family to cheer on their lord and brother (blah blah blah) bc she’s now watching first guin then arthur and now edmund slip through her fingers and she’s realizing it has to do not w her own children but w the og girls (much to her chagrin!) and she’s like DO UR THING GET THEM BACK but wo saying that so and let me just @forgottenbrigit Valentina’s probs giving alms at Malconaire for every day and every girl that appears bc she knows that’s what’ll entice them honestly! Sgjjfdg so while I was initially thinking @forgottenroisin would absent herself (I mean she just learned edmund killed her dad in battle the LAST thing she wants to do rn is watch him fight 💀😭) and I think she did insist she wasn’t coming till Valentina pulled that one out but yeah. Anyway!! Valentina also probs tried to get them all to wear green as both a malconaire and a vasilieva color anddddd I’m thinking she may have at least tried to host a private after party at malconaire for the victors!! Weirdly the peasants couldn’t make it… ;D but she probs didn’t think it was v weird if Brigit disappeared since she often absents herself from such things anyway and really this is abt reminding the princes they want to be here at malconaire!!! Agklgsdhkfd
So yeah idk if eithe Brigit or aoife were receptive to these bribes but rosie was! Tho she probs didn’t spend much time at the stands except whatever was the absolute minimum requirement for Valentina re: being seen there in order to help malconaire etc. Do you guys think ur ladies were receptive to this bribery? Valentina wants to know which jewels she’ll have to sell to bankroll this but if publicity 😂😭
@forgotteneithne Valentina forced to give alms to the poor then throwing a party for the varmonts and the only one to show is freaking @forgottensebastian while having to watch first eithne be publically hailed as cassimirs fiancée and then Cassimir lose like…worst day of Valentina’s life except the day roderick executed all her relatives and the day bran died shljdsjlfjl
Also i defff think Valentina wants them all to show up as a big happy family to support Cassimir (except she has no worries abt eithne not wishing to attend! But she ~will be reminding @forgottencassimir that this is the sort of wife he has chosen, one who will not support him, and it’s still not too late to dump her in favor of literally…anyone else atp!!! She is no longer picky!!!! As long as it isn’t Brigit anyway…afjlgshlg 😂😂😂)
forgottenaoife
@giadesstrin That makes sense! Meanwhile all the girls are like “… him? The guy who won nothing?” (Which good bc Valentina doesn’t need anymore terrible curtains or w/e 😜) but I did write a thing up for Eithne and she ends up coming to SOME of it! And idk if Rosie is there at all but I def think Rosie being their or her being there and also wanting to go asp too? Anyway I do think aoife might have been the last standing Malconaire sister (minus brigit ofc!) there by th end! @giadesstrin Aoife being the only sister to make it through the whole thing AND being the only one who brings back a prince like her step mother wanted… but Valentina like “NOT THAT ONE” is perfect after everything Valentina has put her through! She’s still doing want her step mother wants but it’s actually NOT what she wants! 😂
giadesstrin
@forgottenaoife Aoife can never win 😭😭😭 Valentina: ‘try for arthur next time’ *storms off* jk jk (but only kind of 😭😭😭)
couldn't find where i said it but i do actually think that, if its before the money disappears (if that even happens!), @forgottenroderick ~would come to this party and that @forgottenarthur would then come but largely to run interference for sebastian both re their dad and valentina (if edmund comes he might do a ~lil for him but largely lbr he is here for sebastian!! alkjsdfjks) but yeah honestly arthur is only there if sebastian is -- he doesn't wanna put eithne or sonya through it if he can help it bc hebelieves that valentina will as usual be pushing sonya at him...he'd be in for a surprise there bc valentina would ~def push eithne at him instead and yeahhhh i can't imagine that would best please cassimir or, really, ~anyone but valentina lakjsdfkljsdlkfj
lizzy, do you think sebastian, cassandra, or edmund would show?
idk if guin would be there but if she is then its bc she's still hoplessly in love w cassimir and cant bear to be parted from him in valentina's mind but conversely if she's ~not its just that again she's so hopelessly in love w him she can't bear to see him w eithne so yeah lakjsdfkljsdlkjf
but yeah, valentina is there loudly and proudly in the stands every single day and then feasting it up later!! also!!
valentina offered hers [her favor] to her 'one true champion’ cassimir but idk if he’d already accepted another or what so yeah, anyway hers was a green ribbon w the arms of vasilieva embattled w those of malconaire
@forgottencassimir also yes cormac and valentina are ABSOLUTELY taking turns cheering the loudest for cassimir…meanwhile rosie is booing him (but only when @forgotteneithne wont hear bc she doesn’t wanna hurt ~her) (also this is current!me sidenoting that the only way you can tell if you haven't gotten close etc that the frosts are all there is that you'll just randomly hear lots of booing from everywhere whenever cassimir appears ;D annnd also that valentina is kinda mad when cormac is cheering more loudly than she is and makes the girls cheer and rosie is laughingly like 'sorry i saw a swan i can't' [yes, i stubbed my toe and/or i saw a swan are her new joke excuses for everything] until she offers more alms for it lakjdsfjklsdf)
kate: I still think Eithne maybe didn’t go? But if she did she brought something to @forgottencassimir and I sort of love the idea that Valentina beat her to it? 🤣 but idk what you think cassimir would have done
lizzy: "Cassimir is wearing Eithne’s (sorry mom)"
valentina defffff salty abt her own son turning down her favor SOB lkjsdfalkjsdjf
dldskjfasdf valentina after he fails 'we can all see how much luck the favor of eithne has already granted you...' at least ONCE but...probs more often than that alksdjfalkjsdkfj his losses are deffff her fault btw!!!!! later when she accuses them of witchcraft its probs one of the signs that she cursed him or smth bc otherwise he woulda knocked everyone dead laksdjflksjdfkj
ok so like!! @forgottenmarian im also wondering if marian might mention to valentina abt eithne's pregnancy w arthur's kid bc!! valentina would defffffff run straight to @forgottencassimir w that one being all 'she's just marrying you to avoid the scandal when arthur refused to marry her himself!' laksdjfklsjdf
girl will literally try ANYTHING atp even tho that scandal would def reflect badly on her, on sonya, on cassimir, and on them all, she'd def spread the rumor laksdjflksjdf (SCREAM) hoping that cassimir would leave her lakjdsfkljdsf
ofc what she's noT considering is that would piss off @forgottenroderick to no end bc he doesn't like the way that reflects on ~his family but yeah when it inevitably turns out that eithne's ~not pregnant w arthur's baby he'd blame valentina entirely even tho he thought it too and lakdjsflkdjfdsf mess!!!!! but yeah!! laksjdfkljsdf
anyway there might be more but this is everything i can think of atm alkjsdflkjsdf

No, aspe', chiariamo.

Would it be more “acceptable” if Chris & Abba were exclusively PR?
Chris’ performative political activism
Whether Chris and Abba are a real legitimate couple with a PR spin or exclusively PR, Chris’ political activism has proved to be totally performative. It’s one thing to fight for equality and injustice when it is beneficial to your image, it’s another to do it when voicing that opinion can be costly. Look at Melissa Barrera who expressed her opinion, stuck to her guts and lost the role she is most famous for. Look at Brendan Fraser who refused to stay silent and paid such a heavy price after speaking out on his being sexually assaulted. It took him years to come back and finally take home a much deserved Oscar for his acclaimed performance in the Whale.
Chris’ persona and brand were utterly destroyed when he was linked to that fat-shaming racist antisemitic Nazi sympathizing girl. The most aggravating part of this PR shitshow is that by accepting to be officially in a “RS” and then be “married” to her, he has helped put her in the spotlight, which was his first mistake. Look at Dylan O’Brien who is in a real relationship with someone extremely problematic as well. They are rather discreet. If Chris and Abba had behaved like a real private couple, if Abba would have stayed in the shadow, then the backlash would have been kept to a minimum. Also by agreeing to this, Chris helped clean her image. Knowing what she has shown to the world publicly, it’s all the more egregious to see the media portraying her as this smart talented great humanitarian who speaks 5 languages and who has perfect eyebrows. The gaslighting is unbearable.
Of course, Chris has famously said that the industry makes you do things that you don’t want to do. But it is an excuse. It’s a rationalization. The truth is that he had a choice. For sure the two options he was offered probably sucked but he still had a choice. Nobody forced this on him. And he knew the optics were terrible. That’s why he didn’t come back to Twitter, that’s why he took so much distance from his political project ASP. It would have been too hypocritical to be vocal and to be lecturing people when he, himself, was connected to someone that represents what he is allegedly fighting against.
When he did that infamous asp chat about racism and antisemitism, it wasn’t random. It was very likely a test to monitor the reaction of his fans. This is probably why they left all those negative comments. They wanted to know if Chris had been forgiven...
If their “RS/marriage” was exclusively PR, would that absolve him somehow?
Certain mods have expressed the opinion that if Chris and Abba were a real legitimate couple, it would be much worse and then they couldn’t support Chris anymore. I don’t mean to judge or criticize anyone’s opinion by the way, especially since I think some of those mods are good, well-intentioned people and I love reading their take on things but I am just trying to ask questions here.
What is implied here is that it’s ok and preferable to compromise yourself if it’s meant for your career. And it’s true that we are taught from the earliest age that we have to succeed. Whatever the cost may be. We must have friends, have a career, have money, have a family, have a house… So much emphasis on having and so little on being. This is the darker side of the American dream, it puts way too much importance on money and success. And if you can’t achieve those goals then you are considered to be worthless. Nihilism starts right there. If you are nothing, it’s a lot easier to give up on your morals and ethics…
To get back to Chris. Yes he’s had an amazing career, the kind of career most actors would kill for. But it’s easy to relate to being terrified to lose what you have and what you have always wanted. I guess the desperation must be unbearable if you have defined yourself by your professional success and you see that things start slipping away from you. And by his looks and demeanor, people can tell he has struggled with it. Although it might be an act of course. But I choose to believe that it’s genuine and that he really feels guilty about it.
But wouldn’t love make this situation more “acceptable”?
If Chris and Abba were exclusively PR, then it would signify that Chris compromised himself and his beliefs for his career, for roles, for money and for power.
But wouldn’t it be actually “preferable” and “more acceptable” to compromise yourself out of love?
Love can be so powerful and nonsensical that certain people have lost their ways because of it. People have betrayed their partners or spouses, some have abandoned their own children because of it. Heck, people have even killed out of passion. And we sometimes free those people in a court of law when a jury decides that the criminal was so blinded by love and passion that they were unable to distinguish right from wrong. We call it temporary insanity!
If Chris had genuinely fallen in love with Abba (I don’t believe it by the way) to the point of being blind to her problematic stuff, would that be really worse or wouldn’t that serve as more mitigating circumstances? I am merely asking a question: compromising yourself for money and roles is it better than compromising yourself out of love? Did we actually become too cynical? Too materialistic?
Chris and his treatment of Abba and how it is reflective of our society…
Regardless of what we might think of Abba (and for sure we don’t have a good opinion of her), Chris has treated her very poorly. And this doesn’t reflect well on him.
Indeed he has done the absolute bare minimum to sell this, has never even said her name once, he has acted all ashamed most times she was nearby, has thrown shade (see the GQ interview where he implied she was judgmental), he has kept repeating how much he likes to be alone and how his dog is his true soulmate. He even said while allegedly being with her that he was looking for a partner to spend the rest of his life with. Ouch!
Of course, people who know about her problematic stuff will have trouble having any kind of empathy for her but that doesn’t make it ok.
Chris has agreed to this PR shitshow so tacitly he has accepted that Abba is good enough for these PR games and he has accepted to use her. So he should treat her with a minimum of respect. Otherwise he shouldn’t have gone through with it in the first place.
And it’s very symptomatic of our society these days. With the propaganda pushed by the mass media, we are taught that it’s ok to hate on people as long as they are horrible human beings. And similarly we have seen so many mods troll and comment on Abba‘s appearance as if it was even relevant. Just because someone is horrible, it doesn’t give you a license to behave the same way. Otherwise you become the very same thing you are criticizing.

Judi Dench gets chatty and cheeky about Shakespeare
Part intimate memoir, part insightful commentary, Dench’s book, written with Brendan O’Hea, shows how the Dame and the Bard make a winning combination
April 11, 2024

Review by Malcolm Forbes
At one stage in her long and glittering career, Judi Dench might have agreed with half of the old show business dictum to never work with children or animals. In 1987, she was playing the title heroine in a production of Shakespeare’s “Antony and Cleopatra” at the National Theatre in London. Three harmless snakes were playing the deadly asps; one of them escaped. After receiving the fatal venomous bite and departing “this vile world,” Dench’s Egyptian queen was carried off the stage to what sounded to her like hissing from the audience. When Dench came back on to take her bow, she saw the missing serpent slithering out the side of her wig. “Old snakey, he wanted to be there for the curtain call,” she recalls. Not that she reacted so lightly at the time: “I lost my voice for two days, I was so traumatized.”

This is only one of many colorful anecdotes to be found in a new book in which the much-loved and critically lauded actress celebrates Shakespeare’s art and comments on her craft. It is a craft Dench has honed to perfection over a career spanning seven decades, from the role of Ophelia in “Hamlet” in 1957 as an ingenue fresh out of drama school to Paulina in “The Winter’s Tale” in 2015 while an 81-year-old national treasure. “Shakespeare: The Man Who Pays the Rent” takes the form of in-depth interviews that Dench gave over four years. Part intimate memoir, part insightful commentary, the book shows how the Dame and the Bard make a winning combination.
Each chapter revolves around an individual play and Dench’s role or roles in it. Her interlocutor, the actor and director Brendan O’Hea, steers her through the drama and feeds her questions or prompts relating to a variety of aspects, from plot strands to line delivery to character development. Dench shares her expertise and her experience, and along the way sprinkles in witty recollections from productions.
In the opening section on “Macbeth,” she reveals that the Scottish play was the reason she went into theater in the first place. For her, it has everything: “Beautifully constructed, terrific story, great part, good memories — I remember so much of it. Short, no interval, pub (Dirty Duck): heaven.” She views “Macbeth” as a thriller and in other chapters argues that “The Merry Wives of Windsor” resembles a pantomime and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” a comic sex romp (“Titania and Oberon are so randy”). In the latter, she enjoyed playing First Fairy, a character with an attitude and an agenda: “She can’t hang around chatting, justifying her movements to some sprite she doesn’t know — she has a job to do.”

When playing Mistress Quickly in “Henry V,” Dench imagined her as “flinty, as if she’s been hewn out of rock,” while as lonely soul Imogen in “Cymbeline” she “often felt like Sisyphus pushing an enormous boulder up a hill.” Dench had a better time of it as Hamlet’s mother, “Dirty Gerty,” and particularly relished being bedecked in extravagant costumes and jewelry. As Dench remarks, “I think Gertrude is quite a bling person.”
Discussions of some plays and parts provide springboards to fascinating tangential topics. While dissecting “Coriolanus,” Dench muses on why certain plays are more popular than others. An examination of “The Merchant of Venice” — for Dench “a horrible play” — leads to the issue of censorship. And during reflections on “King Lear,” Dench veers off to speak out against updating Shakespeare to render his work more accessible: Simplifying him, she argues, “traduces the language, reduces our imagination.”

At regular junctures, Dench imparts nuggets of wisdom. We learn about lighthouse acting and pickup lines. We get a how-to guide in miniature — how to play comedy and tragedy, how to give a soliloquy and speak iambic pentameter. Dench believes that less is more in her profession: “Acting is learning how to edit,” she explains. “Finding the minimum we have to do to create the maximum effect.” She has little time for actors who take the role home with them (“You take the character off with the costume”) or who, in pre-performance read-throughs, “sit around and intellectualize it all.” On several occasions, she employs a character to illustrate her point: Fight scenes have to be choreographed, she says, “otherwise you’re going to get through a lot of Desdemonas.”
The book is interspersed with short sections on theater-related subjects, with titles as varied as “Critics,” “Audience,” “Rehearsal,” “Stratford-upon-Avon” (“where my heart is,” Dench confesses) and the inviting “Fireside Ramblings.” Here and elsewhere, Dench recounts tales of acting alongside the likes of Ian McKellen, Kenneth Branagh, Daniel Day-Lewis, Anthony Hopkins and her late husband, Michael Williams. Her most compelling stories relate to antics backstage (“a subterranean world which the audience never get to see — and maybe for the better”) and hiccups onstage — careless accidents, dubious props and mangled lines. Once, in “Romeo and Juliet,” she sneezed while lying on her lover’s tomb; another time, she spoke the line “Where is my father and my mother, nurse?” — and heard her father call out, “Here we are, darling, in row H.”
Dench likes when things backfire — “There’s magic to be mined in mistakes” — and many of her stories and responses are imbued with impish glee. She comes across as chatty and cheeky but also perceptive and analytical. In addition, she is impressively no-nonsense, quick to chide O’Hea for overthinking matters, and refreshingly self-deprecating, describing her Cleopatra as not so much a stately sovereign as a “menopausal munchkin.”
This book could have been a cross between a starchy academic study and a meandering trawl through Dench’s past glories. Instead, it is a delight, at once lively, captivating and informative. At 89, Dench’s eyesight is deteriorating, but she refuses to let age completely wither her. Throughout these pages, her memory remains prodigious, her passion for Shakespeare undimmed, and she still has the capacity to entertain.
Malcolm Forbes is a freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Economist, the Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal and the New Republic.

I want people to think about this .
If this were a "real" relationship and marriage with CE
Why would you need to go out of your way to show the ring? He was doing that so blatantly at the first ASP chat back in November and then on the View again.
And now we have him actively hiding the ring with these people at the white house. Don't come at me and say he's not. Yes he is. The only time he can't is if certain talks are with a camera in front of him. But even the first one they played a person dead center blocking his hand.
Neither of those situations makes any sense for a real relationship
Why do you need to prove you're in one that you have to shove your left hand up and around when you're right handed?
And on the flip of that, why are you going out of your way to hide the ring in fan photos (at con) and your team erasing tags showing it, and then now at DC , your'e actively tucking it away as much as you can?
Explain that team real. Seriously.
