I only see him sharing his space and all of his free time with a wife if he really loved but I can still see him marry somebody he only Fs, as long as they are living separate and without her being controlling, especially if he wanted a conventional family or wanted to still profit off a PR relationship.

But I don't really see him "take a bullet in the head and paint the floor red" (In These Walls) for his loveless marriage partner, whether it be Megan or anyone else.

He must have a body count at least in the triple digits, so he's one of those who can see a difference between lust and love. Some people came along on blogs and said they (and their friends) extended their hook ups for YEARS. In case he couldn't meet new girls, he would always have his go-to he would hit up, women hired to collab with the XX team (two former stylist & at least one former assistant), same old fans that would make sure to 'visit' him backstage everytime he would hit their city up, models flying (even to Cleveland) from around the world and industry workers around Vegas, LA, Miami and ATL.

Also, hasn't he known Kiki for years? I don't think these girls could even be considered side-chicks or lovers, more of tag along and some of them managed to remain as his friendly acquaintances. Yes, he did cuddle according to them, so he does have a soft spot, but I think that could have only happened after he felt comfortable enough, maybe knowing he would soon leave them behind anyway. And that does not sound much of an emotional connection to me.

This is all very true, but I don't know, I think colson is getting to that point in his life where tag alongs or consistent hookups don't cut it anymore. Regardless of what he does with his pants, I think he just wants to be loved unconditionally, with someone who values and supports him. He's such a sensitive person and I know he struggles with rejection, perhaps that's why he always has another woman handy. But he's getting older and girls like kiki, Kelly k, Nicki, Katie, etc don't cut it. Now I don't know how Megan differs from all these women, strictly because I don't know any of them, but whether it be her status or her personality, he wants something real with someone. Something deep and meaningful, and whether that ends with Megan or someone else, I don't think he can spend the rest of his life just exchanging sexual favors.

I'm sorry but if this was ever "real" we would have known. We would have seen a casual pic of them to start. Instead for over a year we got "vague" implications of her being in his circle and yet nothing solid of them actually interacting.

Sure we saw the friends posting at his LA house etc, but everyone knows that he lends that place to anyone. Nothing was 100% solid. There wasn't a casual pic of them just existing near each other. Not on a couch or out to dinner. Nothing.

Then boom people mag releases the pap walk and its "serious over a year" . That screams PR or the dude really was fucking ashamed of being involved with her so kept it all on the down low (which I doubt bc the dude is a sucky actor and that girl wants attention)

When a celeb pushes a narrative out there so loud for a few months and then gossip mags are 90% of the coverage of it, you know something is amiss. For them to try and act like they had this so serious private relationship for 2 years. I'm sorry but how would no one ever see them in LA , ATL or boston ever? same with the concord wedding Bs, that town is deadass silent. Wouldn't random people be coming forward with tips to people confirming an event happened? yes they would especially with all the press it's garnered this week. And yet? Nothing.

Chris always used to be spotted with his friends and family out and about and people would slyly photograph him. And yet there's not a single one of him and Alba over this many years? How? That literally implies that they hid in a fucking house for years? Come on how ridiculous and unnatural. If this was real we wouldn't have heard shit the way we have until they were actually married. None of those dumps would have happened imo or we would have gotten casual sightings in actual photos but not these orchestrated "holiday" posts that were all in magazines before the instagram accounts . We would have gotten her casually seen in things with Scott or Chris etc. And definitely not these fucking crumbs from his extended friends and family. Nah a real relationship would have been coming from him and immediate family if there was one.

Hi I’ve had a lot of thoughts abt minecraft ocs while working the past few days and I’m!!! I need to write them down and share them in a good concise spot, and this is essentially just like editing down what I was throwing at moss in discord yesterday sdlkfjsd

So it started bc I was thinkin about razor and his hels

Mostly bc I was thinkin abt throwing some multiverse shenanigans onto razor which is its own whole thing!!! Ages ago I came up with a couple other stories involving him that were entirely separate from each other but thought now that it'd be fun to let razor have some sort of connection to those stories, haven't figured out yet if it's like. If he's able to connect with those other selves of his or if it's like he can just observe or if he can travel to/from, idk yet but I’m messin around w it

And his hels doesn't care to let him know he exists and given that he doesn't want to make friends or be attached to literally anyone is perfectly fine with his easy existence in the coliseum until he stops existing bc what's the point when all he and anyone else are gonna be in the end is names on a wall at best. He does well enough in the coliseum to keep on there, but he doesn't put in a particular amount of effort y’know. ppl like that he can throw sparks sometimes- bc like his counterpart he’s part blaze- n that’s easy enough

But I had a stray thought cleaning a couple days ago that if his hels is working his way up in influence, that probably also comes with money, and the coliseum is like. A Big Thing n u must be big and important if you're sponsoring someone there, right? He wants all the status he can get so he should sponsor someone!!

This bit is guesswork tho bc I. Don't remember much about like. How the sponsors work. But I was thinking like maybe all the best Bigger Fighters were taken/spoken for or smth? So he's stuck having to pick an underdog, or maybe is just wise enough to know he doesn’t rly have the status to support someone big, so he’s gotta gamble a bit, which. My multiple stories of Minecraft characters has them all find each other in some way, so I like the thought of he ends up picking razor!

I was thinking abt how they would view each other n realized like. They'd be jealous of each other. So his hels is essentially the qualities of himself that he's afraid of- his hels is a more 'monstrous' version of him that he's terrified other ppl might see him as if he's not constantly trying to cover up his warden self

My thoughts of how they might would see each other was mirrors bc he's refusing to look at himself for who he really is but also that's tango n tanguish n I Don't Wanna Recycle

Then I thought well. His hels' existence is literally his nightmare. What if they visit through dreams? :V

N it's kinda vague if they're like Actually With Each Other or not but they've never wanted to do anything to each other or themselves to find out

So they both think they're just having like. Really Vivid Dreams

It’s not every time they sleep tho like only sometimes when fire falls asleep does he suddenly find himself faced with his other self and vice versa

Fire's hels, I think, is the easiest one for me to accept that he would be eventually poofed to nothing, if only because their story would be kinda similar to the game Celeste, where it's a story of acceptance of yourself and loving who you are (fire’s hels is defo not as antagonistic as badeline tho sldkfjsd)

And also bc it's still up in the air RNS-wise of what really happens to a hels once they are gone, so it's kinda being viewed for me through a lens of the two becoming whole again instead of like one character fading to nothing bc the other fixed an issue y’know

The others are kinda harder for me to be like 'welp they're hels they're gonna be gone eventually' gksjfkk

Especially Nora now that I've gone and written about her qvq whICH is. I haven’t done much more thinking about her yet buT I have realized that she and ty might connect bc if ty’s an errand runner then nora may hire her at some point :V

Visual Novel Developer Interview – Scene Direction in Of Sense and Soul

Hi everyone! For this month's visual novel dev article I thought we’d try something different. I typically write articles based on my own experiences and research, but I want to include more commentary and experiences from other developers.

So today I’ll be interviewing another visual novel developer!

ingthing is a visual novel developer and friend of mine who is currently developing Of Sense and Soul, a queer Victorian romance visual novel following a pair of men after a misconstrued newspaper ad.

Of Sense and Soul (@ofsenseandsoul) is a highly detailed, lovingly crafted visual novel that showcases how we can elevate indie visual novels to new heights. Its attention to visuals is something that can be felt throughout every store page and screenshot for the game but is even more breathtaking once you actually play it.

Today I’ll be interviewing the lead developer, ingthing! You may have seen her previously talk on this at Visual;Conference, an annual online visual novel developer conference.

Arimia: Hiya Ing! So to get us started, can you introduce yourself and tell people how you got into visual novel development?

Ing: I’m Ing, I’m an artist and designer who had a gay webcomic idea with her friend one day and then two years later we decided it should become a visual novel instead! Now I lead my own little studio and we’re making a Whole Thing out of OSAS. [Of Sense and Soul]

Arimia: Cinematography is such a large aspect of OSAS. What made you want to focus so much on cinematography for it?

Ing: In the beginning we actually didn’t consider cinematography so much—our original Demo was very static and was a simpler affair of putting sprites on a background. 

It was really when I was designing the user interface that I began to think about it, starting with a NVL style screen that displayed a letter that the main character was reading. I had the idea of placing the main character sprite on the left of the letter in order to display their emotions while reading the letter as a close-up—and that meant I started the framing of the scene, and how the “camera” could affect the player’s experience of the game.

What really solidified my pursuit of cinematography in OSAS was the prologue sequence—I knew immediately I wanted to use the art for it with a camera pan down the long, vertical image. I watched Visual Novel Design (Vimilikesart’s) YouTube video Ren’Py Images and Action Editor Tutorial and decided to use Action Editor to achieve this, and once I learned how to use the tool the rest was history!

Once I knew what the possibilities of the Ren’Py in-game camera were, I quickly learned more about its Animation and Transformation Language (ATL) through manipulating it, and started adding cinematography to the entire Of Sense and Soul demo.

Arimia: Why do you think this is important in visual novels?

Ing: As an experience, visual novels are unique in that they are a time-based interactive medium. You’re asking your audience for their attention for a significant chunk of their time, the same way a movie or TV series would—and that’s a lot of hours spent in front of a screen if it stays fundamentally unmoving. 

Dialogue and narration are also commonly shown in a text box at the bottom of the screen, and the text content itself is what tells most of the story. In my opinion, having a static screen that only changes when images are being switched in or out discourages players from paying attention to the visuals, and more of their focus might turn to the text alone—which would not only make their playing experience more monotonous but also impact their enjoyment of your hard work.

I think every visual novel developer or player is familiar with the imagery that makes up a scene—namely, sprites and backgrounds—and these are very important to get right, as they offer a visual to connect with stories and characters. Most backgrounds and sprites offer variation for appropriate times of day or facial expressions, or even props, poses, and outfits if they’re fancy—but I would say their possibilities as image assets alone are finite. You can match a scene to a narrative and match a character to their description, but their effectiveness in conveying a scene is entirely dependent on when, where, how, and why you display them, which is one major element you have control over when scripting a VN. 

With Of Sense and Soul‘s demo, I’ve had the joy of watching in real time as streamers and players respond to my cinematography—and the level of investment in the story they develop when given engaging visuals cannot be overstated! It was clear the action happening on screen through the main character’s eyes was connecting with them. Sudden angled zooms on shocked characters’ expressions earned a gasp or laugh, while thudding heartbeat effects and pans across a character’s face with their eyes concealed drew concerned looks or “Oh no”s from players without fail, every time the scene was intended to elicit those reactions. It’s one thing to show a character’s emotions on their face or describe how they’re feeling—it’s another entirely to tell it through the audience’s visual instincts.

(As an aside, I’ve been told that when they arrive at the voiced segments of OSAS, some players begin to feel like they’re watching a movie instead of reading a visual novel—which in my eyes means the cinematography was successful!)

Utilizing cinematography in your visual novels can not only help you keep your audience’s attention by creating a better visual narrative and keeping them eager to see what comes next, but also allows you to maximize the image assets you do have—which, for many visual novel developers, is limited. I think that’s pretty important, and a win for everyone all around!

Arimia: I think using what limited assets you have is definitely key. What are some ways you think other devs can make better use of their limited assets, from what you’ve seen in other games?

Ing: I think prime examples of devs making creative use of their assets can be seen in a lot of games made for the O2A2 game jam in which each game can only have one of any asset. Some ways devs have used their backgrounds, for example, with added motion or repetition, like in lastrain by usarin in which a background is looped to give the appearance of a moving train, or in Fleeting Confession by xxmissarichanxx where the foreground confession booth screen is used both in front of the sprite and in the back, but blurred and semi-transparent for the latter.

A more simple and commonly used way to better utilise image assets is just by changing the parts shown of them—many visual novels will zoom into a background or sprite to show off specific details, especially if events described in the story itself are taking place in, say, a table in the corner of the room.

I think what most devs who do play with camerawork and presentation have set up, though, is they’ve already planned their assets ahead for those uses—devs who do full-body sprites will have more flexibility than half-body sprites, and backgrounds that are larger than the final game window offer better quality when zoomed into.

Some devs also play around with “comic book” style cut-ins, like the prologue for Tomorrow Will be Dying by Team Robo and actually, your game, Lost Lune! Even in the screenshots you can see some fun silhouetting of sprites and comic frames being used to bring drama to scenes.

Arimia: These are all great ideas for VN devs! Personally I love playing around with camera stuff and trying new things to make scenes more dynamic—there’s so many ways you can frame scenes. Is there any technique or method you’d like to add to OSAS that you haven’t been able to yet or plan on?

Ing: I do actually want to do some cut-in style frames and potentially use a vignette effect for flashbacks. I tend not to plan a ton for scene direction, but I see what other devs are doing and go “this looks so cool” and hoard it in my brain like a squirrel preparing for hibernation.

Arimia: Yeah, definitely. I was playing Mahoyo recently and it took me forever to finish it because I’d get so inspired by the scene direction!

How do you mix the visual scene direction with other aspects, like audio? I’ve never delved into voice acting for my games but I know voice acting is a large part of the charm for OSAS.

Ing: Definitely relate to just staring at sequences for ages and rolling back and forth to examine how cinematics work!

Honestly the weirdest part with voice acting for OSAS is we never originally thought it would be part of the game. Because the game has a very “paper-like” feel and was intended to be more grounded in words, VA wasn’t something we felt would be necessary.

What really changed that was the addition of scene direction. Once cinematics were in and we knew what the sprites and settings could do to tell the story, voicing was a natural next step because the game was suddenly so lively!

The audio absolutely plays a big part in how scenes are directed and sequenced—to an extent we follow the emotionality of the soundtracks playing in the background to reflect the emotions of the scene. A more melancholic track might be accompanied with more sluggish-feeling pans across the scene, where a lively track might have quicker pans between sprites to reflect the dynamic of the conversation!

One of my favorite audio-led camera effects is the heartbeat effect used in Seamus’ demo segments; when the heartbeat is pounding in Seamus’ (and the player’s) ears, the camera zooms in/out and blurs along with the sound effect, creating a much more impactful effect than if we were to just add the audio.

Arimia: Yeah, the heartbeat effect is something that just sticks with you—I’ve never seen anything like it in other VNs. Parts like that really draw you in (literally and figuratively).

Okay, my final question is- share a cool trick in Ren’Py!

Ing: I’ll share two!

The first is boring, but…

You can actually define your color hex codes in your files and apply them wherever you need them (like your GUI styles)! And then when you need to change the color itself you won’t have to find all instances of that hex code and change them individually, you can just do it from your main definition.

If you’re in the Ren’Py developer console (Shift+O) you can change your save file name using $ save_name = "filename" for your personal testing needs and it won’t affect your save_name for the game itself.

And that way you can keep your save files for testing named and also make yourself laugh with them!

hot take: i think I actually like Pate/Bye's le freak better than F/G's. Better music cut, like the twizzles, some nice dancing moments. Nothing phenomenal, it's Igor, but I really feel a potential world medal contender like F/G should be miles ahead of them with the same music

i like F/G's FD better than last season, but this RD isn't great. i agree Pate/Bye have a better music cut, which is mystifying - i wonder why F/G chose this. it's not special, it doesn't feel like there's a lot of room to grow. the "gimme a C! C! gimme an H! H!" thing just delays the start while they pose rather than skate or dance - the juniors Ashli and Atl are attempting a more difficult version of spelling letters - YMCA - with their arms than this - it also means the music for F/G doesn't really start until the twizzles

i also was noticing something about Lilah in the RD - there's something about how she moves her legs from her hips that looks ... ? it's different than most of the other top skaters. it's like the way a Barbie doll doesn't have the full range of motion from the hip joint, there's something restricted in how she extends her legs which makes her look more upright than most of the best skaters, and it's affecting her ability to curve into the ice. i could have it backwards, and the limitation is in her ankles and knees, but it’s in how she uses her entire legs. anyone who can either explain what i'm seeing, or tell me how i'm wrong, please do

I'm very sorry for everything you and your family have been enduring lately, life is really tough

Now I'm gonna be the stupid bitch i really am and ask you a dumb question about Chris... Has he ever really lived with a woman for extended periods of time?? I really thought he'd lived w jessica but you kinda made it clear he didn't. What about the rest?? And bonus annoying question, do you really think he's living in ATL with voldemort?? Some blogs are really pushing that narrative, but i don't see a man so set in his ways change that much in a matter of months... thanks for being here

I really don't know if he and Jess "lived together" in the way most of us think of "living together," ie: true cohabitation. First, both were working alot while they were together, in very different locations. If you look at his career between 2001-2006 while they were together, he spent a lot of it in Vancouver. Over that time he filmed Perfect Score, Fierce People, Fantastic Four 1 & 2 up there. Then he spent basically five months living in the UK in 2005 to film Sunshine. It's interesting to me that they broke up after the one time they worked together in an L.A. based production (Cellular). So it seems like being around one another for that extra time became a stressor. But, you know, who knows what the whole situation was there.

He and Minka did not live together between 2012-2013. She'd basically come over for a few nights, then go back to her own house in WEHO. (LOL, there were pap photos.) It was basically just regular dating from the way everything looked. Serious, but not living together serious, that level.

Jenny baited a lot to make people think she was living with him. She wasn't. Not in L.A., not in MA, not in ATL. But yet people do continue to incorrectly say they did live together. Once again, it was like Minka; she'd stay for a few nights, but then had to leave. And what made all that interesting was the fact that she was basically "homeless" after she left her husband. She'd crash with her parents and her friends, her sister in NYC, production provided housing while filming, and then she'd have a couple of nights here and there with him in either MA or L.A. But she never got to just stay with him for extended periods. It honestly doesn't look like that's ever happened, from what little can be pieced together (NOTE: this is high supposition on my part, and fandom's part).

So, no I don't think Little Miss Dirty Grout has been living with him long-term in ATL or MA. Because he doesn't seem to want that from any woman in his life.

Good luck to his future spouse! They're going to have to buy a different house with two different wings so that they can act like they live two different places.

First song I ever wrote with a very simple form of three verses in a row. I had tried to learn an ATL song on guitar yet in my failed attempt to learn the rhytmn I made a melody instead (very hard to sing but fun for what it is)

The second song I ever wrote and the first with a chorus - way more singable than RoS. I call it my 'Not Like Other Girls' song since I through the song describe this one girl I say is the opposite of me and how I don't understand women fashion.

A song about longing for a relationship (not autobiografical if I remember correctly). This song is special to me not in its themes but that I played it for the talent show at my high school and won first prize. I spend the money to buy a new guitar.

An angst song. Written together with a friend that accidentally also came out as trans years later. It is a very angry song full of self dread and hate. Very teenager.

Probably one of my strangest titles (pun intended) this song is about seeing the beauty in people around you and that we cannot know everybody's story. Also it is a cute little love song to all the strangers you might meet on your way.

Can you tell that I liked Fall Out Boy and Panic! At the Disco from the sheer length of this title x'D? This was a song made and dedicated to one of my then favourite musician, Jack Barakat from All Time Low which is funny when I read it now since a few bits of the lyrics can be used to describe one of my favourite musicians today (Jere Pöyhönen aka Käärijä)

I think that they haven’t gotten a chance to be out in public since that one sighting cause it’s been work since then. Like everything got picked back up in a faster pace cause studios need to be putting out more content and on top of that we have the holiday season. And right after the holiday season Joe leaves for work. I think it’s what I expected cause I didn’t expect much from them sighting wise unless she visited ATL or the few here and there. It’s just a weird time so it’s harder to analyze but I’m sticking with my theory that I need at least 9 months for me to be convinced they’re in it for the long haul. And I def think she’ll be at more premieres when they get to that point. Also to keep in mind even tho csw hasn’t been announced for anything she very well could have work lined up or stuff she’s busy with now so it makes sense. I think if the strike was extended we would’ve gotten more content from them

I agree. I feel like there just hasn’t been time for them to be seen in the last week or so. Because we know he wasn’t home. And then we know something came up that kept him from traveling. So it’s likely that he is in Atlanta, or still in LA . And he’s so good at disappearing that we wouldn’t have any idea. And then this week is the holidays. So likely one of them if not, both of them are going home to their respective families for Thanksgiving.

There were some things I was expecting to see; Like new RENDITIONS of ALL of the song.

RE-RECORDINGs, UNPLUGGED, REMIX, new VIBE for sex drive, new VIDEOS for songs that were not singles, official lyrics and VISUALIZERS and some UNRELEASED. Suffocate is from 2015 but fits the nu-metal genre he mentioned on Pistolero. It even goes well with Roulette. Lana del Rey song, she just posted one with Quavo, rapper from ATL who too had with Migos the whole Latino vibe going on. Their collab went well with Waste Love too.

A music video for El Diablo PT2 & an update on the lyrics of songs like Burning Memories. A PT2 to his comic book. A photography COFFEE TABLE BOOK from 2018 & 2019 when he looked like a whole Papi. A listening party at an actual 'hotel Diablo' lounge. Cleveland has plenty of beautiful Downtown Art Deco restaurants he is rumored he already have fully rented for other private and public occasions. If he wanted a haunted vibe, there are also plenty of abandoned SAFE Art Deco Buildings Downtown CLE he could have rented, he has direct contacts with the mayor afterall.

Even the merch is not original, could have added cigars and cigarette cases and a line of short sleeve shirts.

Maybe pre-recorded interviews or Q&As and skits could have been nice touch to add.

The thing I like the most is the fact he called this part two a Floor 13 EDITION. This makes me hope there will be other editions in the future. Maybe there is the chance he can base full albums on songs out of HD.

I think calling it a part 2 was definitely misleading because I was expecting an entirely new album altogether. If anything he should have called it an extended version or re-release of HD with a bonus track. I also think he wasn't expecting the sort of indifferent reaction to the tracklist, because on his insta story he offered another song with no clear instruction on how to get it. More like come up with your own goal and make it happen, but that's not really clear considering everyone has different versions of what they're able and willing to do.

ACTIVITY - while school was extremely busy and overwhelming, i found some time to extend a music festival that I waited three years for… in the music festival only smaller bands or singers sing which makes it more unique, as I’m onw of the first audiences these artists have. This experience improved my collaboration skills from ATL skills, because before I was quite sceptical about going there, however later, I didn’t want to leave…🛸🎸🎭

Don't think people are quite so naive. Most just find it strange that they barely spent any time together in Dec, and then instead of extending her stay and going with him to ATL, she went back with her friends. I agree with you that this relationship is real. But I don't buy the one year timeline or that it's a super serious romance of the ages that their teams tried to sell in the People article.

i'm up past midnight xmas day just thinking about how out of the holiday spirit i had been. like oh my goodness, the past few xmases have felt less like xmas bc of age, but i worry this time it's for different reasons.

i'll start with the obvious, my younger sister and i went for a lil road trip to visit family in s.c. from atlanta, and it's just me and my sister with extended family, no immediate family.

another issue is i haven't bought a single xmas gift. mainly bc the family has a mutual feeling on xmas this year, and also i'm dead broke. i spent my literal last to get here for xmas bc i promised family, then the internship that i worked this past summer didn't even send my stipend so i haven't even worked this entire break!

another is the fact my dad isn't here, my aunt isn't here, my great grandmother isn't here, there are just many people who have left this earth who were vital to my life during this season. even if i didn't celebrate with them, the thought of them being here was comforting. though me and my dad hadn't spent xmas together since i don't know when, it would've been nice to have that option. and losing a matriarch on both sides puts a hole into xmas.

i can honestly say the most exciting part of it has just been being with the kids. they make it a lot more fun, but this year i didn't even watch an xmas movie - other than home alone, which i didn't even finish. and, now i don't ask for gifts, i have everything i want and need. however, i was gifted an apple watch for xmas early from my auntie in atl! idk xmas just don't xmas how i thought it would. it's been a cold december on my end.

it just feels like there is a hole missing, and i've been more excited for the new year to come than i have xmas, which is saying something bc i'm usually always excited for both. i enjoyed xmas bc it forced me to be present, and new year's allowed me to look forward for the future. but even though the present is a gift, it's been awfully dull lately. not that the year has been shitty, because there have been more triumphs than trials, it's just the trials we're so big. i had a hard time recovering these ending months of the year, and i want to be so much more happier this time next year. i hope im able to make my pinterest board come to life, lol.

i want to be able to buy xmas for my family next year! i want to be able to have fun celebrating next year! and i just want next year to be better overall. but for now i'm going to help my sister unwrap her presents and enjoy being present, because after all that's the only gift i want for today!
