I want to read an absolutely ridiculous Gt soulmates!au.

Like, picture this.

You're going about your day, and bump into someone on the street. You turn to say something but they make some snotty comment and you get into a bit of a confrontation with them. Nothing serious but enough that it leaves you in a foul mood.

What a cold personality. Who raised someone who could be that rude to a stranger? Maybe you fantasize a little about them tripping into a puddle. You definitely replay that argument over in your head a few times, wishing you could replay that moment and say that banger of a comeback you thought of just a smidge too late.

As the day passes, this mood lingers. Isn't it funny how one bad interaction can just ruin a perfectly good d-

You hear a yelp.

You turn to face the direction, and it's like the world falls out from underneath your feet. You almost missed them initially, but you caught the movement at the very periphery of your vision. That nasty person from earlier stands right at your feet, tiny ... and absolutely terrified.

No.

No. No. No. No.

Not them.

Why them??

It wasn't supposed to go like this! You'd spent so long daydreaming of the day you'd meet your soulmate. It was supposed to be cute and fun. Maybe a little awkward, but this???

You feel your stomach in knots as you look at them. A thought that a piece of your soul that small was with them right now was chilling. Maybe it was a mistake? Could you accidentally drop a bit of your soul?

You sigh. As much as you want to doubt it, you know there's no doubting... something to do with compatible frequencies that create an attraction? You never paid much attention during that class in high-school...

You bend down to get a better look at them. They aren't bad looking... quite the opposite... and at this size? They're pretty cute. You take a deep breath. Everybody had bad days, right? They're probably-

"This has got to be a mistake."

Nope. That's it. They suck.

When you meet your soulmate this sort of metaphysical reaction occurs where the souls have complimentary frequencies and this somehow acts as a sort of magnetic reaction, pulling a small bit of someone's soul away from their whole. That small bit of the soul then physically manifests as them.

BASICALLY, soulmate au where your soulmate finds a tiny version of you, and vice versa.

You don't share a consciousness with your shed bit of soul, maybe some kind of shared dreams or something, so you have no idea what some part of you is dealing with.

AHH I love it. It's stupid and silly and adorable.

damn i don't think grian would survive that. wild life divorce arc canon to sabrina scarpenter au i guess! tragic! /silly

on a taking the ask way too seriously note, the fic ends ~November 2024 a good few months before the european tour so there's a fair amount of things that would likely change in those couple months given they (presumably) actually have a conversation about the whole fame and long distance thing.

i don't really know how realistic it'd be but i sorta envision/idealise that they do actually manage to spend a fair amount of time together for the european leg, along the lines of actually managing to sort something out so that Grian can accompany her for a fair amount of it (cause given Grian mostly works remote anyway it's not entirely infeasible for her career-wise, it's just a bit sub-optimal). so yknow grian would be a smidge less millitantly posting throughout this part of the tour cause there's less of the missing her girlfriend angle to the whole thing. (also like grian's been blocked by a lot of people on tumblr at this point lmao)

but yeah so all that would probably mean her reaction is a bit more restrained and they're a bit more out as a couple (not to the public but i think sorta at the point where the fic takes place they're not even really out to a lot of Scar's team: most of her team know she's queer, some know she has a long term partner, but i think grian wanted it to be quite hush hush that it's her specifically - and that's sorta what scar is raising in the final bit where she wants to be more open about it)

but like yeah all these caveats aside, she would still be absolutely livid. scar's sleeping on the floor of the hotel room that night for sure xD

working on my third draft of an aromantic mermaid story and i got this paragraph:

"The mermaid grew to hate marriage, whatever it was. They started to hate the waiting, the false comforts, the lack of true care, and the imaginary savior who would be their everything. They hated him the most, that imaginary prince charming. The one that everyone promised would come one day and make them forget everything that hurt. They hated him for taking so long, for expecting them to love him just because he would show up eventually. They hated him for his impossible promises, for thinking he alone was enough to block out the memory of all the people in their life that they held dear even if their grip was slipping. They hated him for existing, for making everyone think it was alright to leave them behind because he would be there. They hated him and they hated everyone who believed in him. Everyone who would only love them temporary because they didn’t think it was important to invest their time into them because he would be there. They hated him for isolating them from everyone they could have loved and received love from. They hated him for thinking he ever had a right to. They hated him for being allowed to exist. They hated so much that it was getting hard to remember how to love when all they could feel was this choking despair and anger and disappointment at this land they saw as lovely."

and i didn't realize how much i was hurting from amatonormativity until i put the mermaid's feelings into words. because their friend in leaving them behind because he feels like he has to if he is getting married. and it doesn't matter it they still live in the castle because they will still be alone with people who only pity them and hope they find a new prince to sweep them away and make it all better. but he won't and he can't and he isn't fucking real and maybe this is why dreams are made for sleeping and where better to sleep than with the fish. stay tuned for the happy ending :D
