SHILOH: Lost For Words (2021), Like a Ribbon (2025), John Glacier

Even as a Brit, I can’t get on board with most ‘lyrical’ UK hip-hop. It’s so navel-gazing and ham-fisted, so without nuance and thought, it nearly always lacks artfulness and lyrical virtuosity. And that’s how John Glacier’s SHILOH: Lost For Words stands out. You get the sense that she has a mastery of words, can play with them, make them wonder and fascinate. She is the best lyrical hip-hop artist I’ve heard from this land (Like a Ribbon, though not so impressive, does not dent this opinion).
