Yes, 6 people have approached me asking about her. They have been from people who live nearby. A father, whose daughters see her every day at the window. A mother, with a teenage daughter who have a small dog. A woman with 2 cats. Another woman with a cat, a couple, and a person on Instagram.

All processes cooled down. I think having leukemia scares some people. It seems to other people the subject of the adoption contract has made them think twice.

I've been writing this for a long time, on and off, and I've got a way to go yet. It's an autobiographical book about my experiences adopting when we already had a birth child. I have ummed and ahhed about whether I should share my story with the world, and how to do so without sharing too much about my son's story. I've found a balance that I'm comfortable with now, and I'm on a roll. I think I will be ready to share the book with the world in a few months, but we'll see! Sometimes after an emotional chapter, I need a break from it, so I work on one of my children's books. I always have a few on the go, and I switch between them when I need a break from one. This is the draft cover, and I kind of love it. That rocking chair has been a part of a lot of special memories. ❤️ I hope this book will be a useful tool for adopters and prospective adopters who have birth children. The first overnight visit

The first night was an enjoyable one but enlightening as well.  Since the diaper episode, my husband and I were expecting the worst and hoping for the best. We were informed that Aaron had another issue at night with feces.  Smearing it on the walls because of liking the ‘texture’. Something for us to look forward to.

First came the introductions for Aaron once again to the dogs and to Mickey. Next it was dinnertime.  I don’t recall what it was that we ate that night, but I’m sure it was something spicy. Around my house it is always something spicy. I definitely remember that getting Aaron to eat was not an issue.  Actually it was more like he was never fed before because he was voracious.

We had gotten into a routine of baby tasks when we had Jayden. Dinner, bathtime, pajamas, brush teeth, read story, and bed. Mickey and I split the jobs so that we each got to spend time with the child and neither of us felt like we were doing it alone. This carried over to Aaron as well since it was a proven method for us.

No problems with dinner.

Taking clothes off was an adventure. Aaron’s foster mother had double layer clothes on the child as sleepwear when we picked him up in the car. We could not understand why. The outer layer of clothes that he had on was put on correctly but the inner layer was reversed so that the zipper was up his back. Then below that was his diaper.  I turned to my husband with a quizzical look which he quickly returned. You need to remember that this is Las Vegas, but in the winter. It still does not warrant so much clothes in a heated house. I immediately thought of the movie ‘A Christmas Story’ were the youngest child had so many clothes on that he screamed could barely see and could not put his arms down

He needed a bath because he stunk from the sweat he produced from his envelopment. That poor child was obviously put through some rigors at his current foster home.  Aaron loved the water during bath-time.  Again he was almost acting like he rarely got to see it, much less play in it. This child was also fearless. Most kids I would think would be hesitant to get into a bath in a strange persons home and actually have fun.

Mickey dressed him in a comfortable single layer, one-piece pajamas. Brushing teeth was a breeze that I can remember.  He let me poke the brush in his mouth without resistance. 

We read him a book and he enlightened us with big smiles. Bedtime had come and we braced ourselves for the worst. He was understandably uncomfortable getting into a different bed than he was used to, but I stayed with him until he fell asleep.

He did wake up once in the middle of the night screaming. Both Mickey and I ran over to his bedroom.  He was standing up in the crib yelling with his arms outstretched, the universal sign for wanting to be picked up. We think that he just forgot where he was when he woke.  We changed his poopie diaper and put him back down. He fell back to sleep quite quickly.

Morning came and we gently woke up the little one. Checked the walls for feces, none. Checked the diaper for feces, none. Look at that, if you pay attention to the child’s needs as they occur, they do not have to try to get poop out of their diapers... We figured out the problem in one night, and fixed it!

It was clear to me that this child needed to have a home by himself. No other kids to compete with for attention. He needed one-on-one time with parents. Something that he was not getting at his current home.

During the day we all had enjoyable times playing blocks, games, and at the playground. We kinda regretted having to hand the child back to the foster mother later that day.

Mickey and I decided rather quickly that we were ready to take the next step with this adorable child and that he in fact needed us over where he currently was.

We called Cherie, the case worker, shortly after and told her how the overnight visit went and that we were available as the adoptive resource for this child. She was thrilled and told us in the meantime try to spend as much time with the child as possible to make the transition into our home easier.

The next time that I would see Aaron, would be at a bio visit at DFS. Oh goodie... I was going to meet the biologicals.
