It's been a while since I've made a selfship oc...
Tumblr media
Say hi to Aeolia! She's a Skylanders oc, and I ship her with Golden Queen! She's an ex Skylander, but she rebelled and joined the doom raiders, falling in love with Golden Queen. Her hair is made of clouds, and she can expand it by absorbing moisture in the air. She can also take parts of her hair and use them as weapons and transport! She also doesn't like touching the ground, preferring to instead float.
She's heavily inspired by @gigizetz's Aeolus design, and her top is inspired by Venti's outfit during the Archon war in genshin impact. The cloud tattoo on her waist (that I forgot to colour in...) is inspired by Jinx from Arcane.
I got the name from Aeolus, the wind god from the Odyssey (I'm a huge fan of epic: the musical), and when I googled it, I found out that it's the name of the island in which Aeolus resides!
This is already becoming one of my favourite OCs in general, not just in selfshipping.

Edit: I've been informed about the nature of the word "gypsy" in the name of the magypsies and will either avoid using this name or will substitute it with either the term "magi" or @naturalkillercyborg's suggestion of the term "majesties" instead, because I like that term much better
I feel like there's a way to make the majesties progressive lgbtq rep without the caricature-ish elements, but it's hard to find that exact balance. I think it's good that nobody in game pokes fun at them for their appearances, the most we really get iirc is townsfolk confused at their gender, but it never comes off as overly mean-spirited.
I think the best way to interpret them is nonbinary, as the game does say that they're neither men nor women, and they make no attempt to correct people who mistake them for either gender. I feel like any attempt to give them a defined gender of "man" would still stray too far into the "weird manly man wearing girly clothing" stereotype, and if they were given a defined gender of "woman" it'd be making the situation worse by instead straying too far into a negative trans caricature or, if their facial hair was removed, it'd just be whitewashing them into something more "palatable" and traditionally feminine.
Going along with the idea of them being nonbinary, I just find them very fascinating because they're not the typical "androgynous in a skinny, neutrally masculine, inoffensive way" nb rep. They're extremely feminine in dress and flamboyant at heart and they also all take on a "motherly" role with Kumatora, but they also have traditionally "manly" features like facial hair and receding hairlines. They're even shown as owning razors as something as equally important to them as their lipstick (as per their mementos) but they clearly don't shave fully, they instead seem to just groom and trim their facial hair as they see fit instead of removing it altogether.
I realize they are kind of...questionable but I like the complexity they do have, and for the most part I feel like if treated respectfully they could be really good nb characters
Also this is the ideal setup for nb Kumatora because she was raised by them and therefore doesn't really gender herself either! She hates being overly feminine but also doesn't mind being called "she" and "girl" yet also doesn't correct people who mistake her for a boy or call her "sir" either.

Dancing in the Crater of Luscious Return (2024)
One of my finals from art school ever. Aeolia’s such a precious character to me, so when thinking of an environmental final, I wanted to do a scene of her dancing in the blooming nature of one of my stories: Aionue.

Wait Aeolia (Skylanders oc) and Echo (fortnite oc) are very similar
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Blue skin, white(ish) hair, glowing eyes, pansexual, in love with a villain, left/was kicked out of a faction they thought they could trust, spent time in prison (Echo was captured by the IO, Aeolia was sent to cloudcracker prison), were at one point associated with the main enemy faction...
Oh my goodness Aeolia is an Echo clone/j

Favorite minor characters (and why)?
ralph eifman! i love cool old guys, and he was brilliant enough to be able to see that was a lot more to celestial being's motivations than it seemed on the surface. he was the first character to suggest that they were seeking their own destruction! if he'd lived he'd have solved the plot way before everyone else, which is why they had to get him out of the picture both in-universe and from a writing standpoint dhjdskdshjds i was also endeared by the scene where he tells graham not to sortie because he approved of cb's mission in that current instance. 2. aeolia. (again, i love cool old guys). i'm going to count him as a minor character because despite his massive importance, he is basically never on screen. i love his scene in the movie epilogue where he's talking to e. a. ray (lol). we're getting direct insight into his brain, and we get to see how even he embodies the themes of contradiction in the story. he lives sequestered away from people because he can't stand their prejudice and short-sightedness... but to want to change the world, to want to make it better, you have to love people, don't you? despite everything, he believed that people could change. that's a contradiction i see a lot in the real world. not to get too heavy here, but like.... it's easy to say "i hate people" when you look at all the atrocities happening in the world, and even really feel like you mean it, but you can only hate human cruelty because you value human beings themselves. because you love your fellow man. also dude totally had something going on with e. a. ray. they really played chess together if you know what i mean. good for him. good for them.

i was gonna start this post to talk about solen my beloved but actually im just gonna talk about roa again
so Rise of Aeolia (roa) is my self indulgent as fuck sword art online wannabe universe, and when i say wannabe i mean wanna be better out of love for the concept and spite for the execution of the first arc (who even Likes the second part of season 1) so like same concept (successful vr mmo that removes the log out button, die in the game you die for real) but with more love
so like roa was explicitly created as a social experiment, it launched nov 22nd and The Incident/Lockdown happened a month later (to avoid unnecessary newbie deaths) but none of the locked in players know this, they dont get told fuck nor shit, this info has to be brought in by people who knew about the news and then intentionally went out of their way to trap themselves inside the game as well and like even then wouldnt those people sound like conspiracy theorists
anyways
roa being created to study how communities are created (among other reasons) means that a lot of resources are put into weird shit like changing your avatar
lets take my two beloved guild leaders shoo and solen for example!
shoo is trans, ftm, realized during his time in the game. the game lets you change your entire avatar every in game year (roughly 7.5 months) to see what that would do (would people use it to avoid punishment for crimes they did as the previous avatar, would it be widely used, how would it effect the health of the players)
solen is Not trans BUT uses a similar mechanic in that for a certain amount of resources and a level requirement; you can get another avatar you can switch to a la animal crossing outfit wand (shoo also uses this very notably but not for the intended purpose so its not applicable here) which means in essence you can have two or more player characters
solen is the guild master of Danelaw
morgan is the guild master of Roundtable
solen also just so happens to Be morgan, a secret very few people in Either guild knows about
the reason for these features being different is because one allows for total customisability and the other is like a money sink
mmos are things that just print money, if you keep an mmo running for a while inflation is gonna become a problem so letting high level players buy a new character slot and spend all their fortune levelling and gearing up their new character is one way to keep it in check while also studying how giving everyone a master disguise kit will change culture as well as letting the people actually interested in combat and beating the game not get bored of using the same things over and over again (solen uses swords and morgan is a magician, shoo uses swords and in battle switches to a second character that's levelled with guns)
this post had no point i just wanted to talk about my little guy (my little guy is an entire fake video game)
