Darr Bohot Zaruri Hota Hai. Baap ka ho ya apne liye kiye hue paap ka, darr toh darr hota hai. Lekin kuch darr aise bhi hote hain jo tumhe sirf raat ke andhere mein darate hain. Hum unhe kalpanik darr kahte hain.

Esa hi ek darr mein jee rahi thi ek ladki, Rahil. Rahil ek aisi ladki thi jisne chhoti si umar mein ek aisi ghatna dekhi thi jo ek bade se bada insaan dekhe toh uski rooh tak kanp uthe.

Rahil ke bachpan ka woh shaam:

Rahil sirf 6 saal ki thi. Ek shaam wo apne doston ke saath chhupan-chhupai khelte-khelte gayab ho gayi. Doston ne socha, “Shayad wo ghar chali gayi hogi,” aur andhera hote hi sab apne ghar chale gaye.

Par ghar pahunchkar pata chala ki Rahil wahan nahi thi. Uske gharwalon ne har jagah dhundha, lekin Rahil ka koi pata nahi chala. Ek hafta beet gaya, Par uske gharwale ab bhi har jagah use dhoondh rahe the, unhone ummeed nahi chhodi thi.

Fir ek din…

Ek din subah, gaon ke paas wale kue se ek ajeeb si chillane ki awaaz sunayi di. Awaaz darawani thi, jaise koi zindagi ki bheekh maang raha ho.

Kue ke paas ke charwaho ne jab wo awaaz suni, toh woh bhagte hue kue ke paas aaye. Itni darawani aur bhayanak awaaz sun ke wo bhi dar gaye. Dheere dheere gaon ke log jama hone lage. Har koi dar ke kue mein jhank raha tha. Neeche sirf andhera tha aur chillane ki awaaz aa rahi thi. Gaon ke kuch logon ne kue mein jaane ka faisla kiya. Jab wo kue ke andar gaye, toh awaaz achanak band ho gayi.

Bahar sab un logon ke liye dua kar rahe the ki unhe kuch na ho. Thodi der baad kue ki rassi hilne lagi. Gaon walo ne rassi kheenchna shuru kiya aur dekha ki Rahil us rassi se kamar par bandhi hui latak rahi thi. kue me se 4 log bahar Aa chuke the. ek admi ko abhi bhi nikalne ki taiyyari chal rahi thi. Rahil ki saansein chal rahi thi, lekin uska sharir bilkul sukh gaya tha. Uski twacha pe kale-kale daag the, aur uski halat dekh kar sabki raaton ki neend udd gayi.

Doctors usse turant hospital le gaye, lekin Rahil hosho-hawaas mein nahi thi. Doctors samajh nahi paa rahe the ki uske saath kya hua hai. Wo zinda thi, lekin jaise uski atma use chhod kar ja chuki thi.

Doctors ne 2 din tak lagatar koshish ki, par uski aankhein nahi khul rahi thi. Rahil jaise ek ajeeb si neend mein thi jo maut aur zindagi ke beech latakti hui lag rahi thi.

This year we decided to donate and celebrate Kunal Karan Kapoor's birthday at Akhil Bhartiya Netrahin Sangh.

It's a school and hostel for blind kids, totally free of cost for students. Runs solely on public donation. Apart from education, they work on children's skill development. Train them in making LED bulbs, Candles and chairs etc.

They also provide employment to widows. They sell achar, cleaning products and sanitisers etc. made by them.

Something we all can learn from them is finding happiness in the small little things. Just look at their precious smiles.

Tribute to K. L. Saigal on his 70th death anniversary. Kundan Lal Saigal, often abbreviated as K. L. Saigal (11 April 1904 – 18 January 1947), was a singer and actor who is considered the first superstar of the Hindi film industry, which was centred in Kolkata during Saigal's time, but is currently centred in Mumbai. In the early 1930s, classical musician and music director Harishchandra Bali brought K.L. Saigal to Calcutta and introduced him to R. C. Boral. R.C. Boral took an instant liking to his talents. Saigal was hired by B. N. Sircar's Calcutta-based film studio New Theatres on a contract of Rs. 200 per month. There he came into contact with contemporaries like Pankaj Mullick, K. C. Dey and Pahari Sanyal. Meanwhile, Indian Gramophone Company had released Saigal's record containing a couple of Punjabi songs composed by Harishchandra Bali. In this way, Bali became Saigal's first music director. The first film in which Saigal had a role was the film Mohabbat Ke Ansu, followed by Subah Ka Sitara and Zinda Lash, all released in 1932. However, these films did not do very well. Saigal used the name Saigal Kashmiri for his first three films and used his own name Kundan Lal Saigal (K. L. Saigal) from Yahudi Ki Ladki (1933). In 1933, four bhajans sung by Saigal for the film Puran Bhagat created a sensation throughout India. Other films that followed were Yahudi Ki Ladki, Chandidas, Rooplekha and Karwan-E-Hayat. As a youngster, Lata Mangeshkar is alleged to have said that she wanted to marry K.L. Saigal after seeing his performance in Chandidas (1934). In 1935, Saigal played the role that would come to define his acting career: that of the drunken title character in Devdas, based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's novel of the same name and directed by P.C. Barua. His songs in the film Devdas (1935), Balam Aaye Baso Moray Man Mein and Dukh Ke Ab Din Beetat Naahi, became popular throughout the country. Saigal picked up Bengali very well and acted in seven Bengali films, produced by New Theatres. Rabindranath Tagore first heard Saigal before giving consent for the first time to a non-Bengali singing his songs. Saigal endeared himself to the whole of Bengal through his 30 Bengali songs. Saigal's association with New Theatres continued to bear fruit in the successful films Didi (Bengali), President (Hindi) in 1937, Desher Mati (Bengali), Dharti Mata (Hindi) in 1938, Saathi (Bengali), Street Singer (Hindi) in 1938, Dushman (1939), Jiban Maran (1939) and Zindagi in 1940, with Saigal in the lead. There are a number of songs of this era which form the rich heritage of film music in India. Also, in Street Singer, Saigal rendered the song Babul Mora Naihar Chhooto Jaye live in front of the camera, even though playback was becoming the preferred method of singing songs in films. In December 1941, Saigal moved to Mumbai to work with Ranjit Movietone. Here he acted and sang in a number of successful films. Bhukt Surdas (1942) and Tansen (1943) were hits during this period. The latter film is still remembered for Saigal's performance of the song Diya Jalao in Raga Deepak; in the same movie, he also sang "Sapta Suran,Tin .. Gaa-o Saba Guni Jan". In 1944, he returned to New Theatres to complete My Sister. This film contained the songs Do Naina Matware and Ae Qatib-e-Taqdeer Mujhe Itna Bata De. By this time, alcohol had become a predominant factor in Saigal's life. His dependence on alcohol had begun affecting his work and his health. It was said that he could only record a song after being fortified with liquor. He survived ten years of drinking; however, his alcoholism was too advanced for even a single attempt at abstinence, and Saigal died in his ancestral city of Jalandhar on 18 January 1947, at the age of 42. However, before his death, he was able to churn out three more hits under the baton of Naushad Ali for the film Shahjehan (1946). These are Mere Sapnon Ki Rani, Ae Dil-e-Beqaraar Jhoom and Jab Dil Hi Toot Gaya. Parwana (1947) was his last film, released after his death, in which he sang under the baton of Khawaja Khurshid Anwar. The four songs which Saigal sang in Parwana are: Toot gaye sab sapne mere, Mohabbat mein kabhi aisi bhi haalat, Jeene ka dhang sikhaae ja, and Kahin ulajh na jaana. Saigal was survived by his wife Asha Rani (whom he married in 1935); three children, a son and two daughters: Madan Mohan, Nina (born 1937) and Bina (born 1941); and an adopted child, his late elder brother's daughter, Durgesh Nandani, whom he adopted when he was still single. In a career of fifteen years, Saigal acted in 36 feature films – 28 in Hindi, seven in Bengali, and one in Tamil. In addition, he acted in a short comedy Hindi film, Dulari Bibi (three reels), released in 1933. In 1955, B.N. Sircar released a documentary film based on the life of K.L. Saigal, Amar Saigal. In the film, G. Mungheri performed the title role of Saigal. The film contained 19 songs lifted from Saigal's films. In all, Saigal rendered 185 songs which includes 142 film songs and 43 non-film songs. Of the film songs, there are 110 in Hindi, 30 in Bengali and two in Tamil. There are 37 non-film songs in Hindi, and two each in Bengali, Pashto, Punjabi and Persian. His non-film songs comprise bhajans, ghazals and hori. He has rendered the creations of poets such as Ghalib, Zauq, and Seemab. Saigal's distinctive singing was revered and idolised by the first generation of post-independence Hindi Film playback singers, including Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar, Mohammad Rafi, and Mukesh. Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar have even gone on record in an interview that they consider Kundan Lal Saigal to be their musical guru. K L Saigal became famous because of the 'new' technology of 78 rps lac records and players. Mukesh started his career as a copycat of K L Saigal but went on to develop his distinctive style. These records were recorded in one take with all instruments playing along.

Realizing she was the only one talking  " Tujhe kya huva ? kyun chup ho?" .  A masculine voice from the other side answered " Aur kuch bolna hai??", the voice made her heart beat rise.  " Aap kaun?? Bas Swati ko bata di jiye ki Ahmedabad se Naina ka phone aaya tha aur woh mujhe phone karein 22244777 pe" and cut the call hearing Taiji heading towards her house. "Ajeeb ladki hai puch to leti pehle kaun bol raha hai? , confirm karti, phir apni baat karti? . Wrong number dail karke bas express train ki tarah bina kahi ruke bak bak karke rakh diya. Aawaaz to bahut pyari thi aur bataoun se bilkul masooom lagti hai  " he smiled and kept the phone. Brushing the thought as a side effect of the hit movie released recently he went on with his routine. Seeing Naina standing near the phone , Taiji started her usual ranting " O Bai ! Hamesha phone se chipki rehti hai , pata hai tujhe phone bill kitna aata hai aur yeh rakesh babu to bharne wale nahi hai. Ek hum hi chandan ki tarah ghiste jaa rahe hai, jaa ab ghar ka kuch kaam kar yahan khadi kyun hai. " . Naina quickly ran to her room not wanting to hear more. Addressing Bela "ladkiyoun pe nazar rakha kar kitni baar samjaya hai tujhe". Chachiji nodded her head . "Thodi elachi dalke chai to banake la, sarr dard ke maare phata jaa raha hai" sitting on the swing continued with her usual raving about how things are going out of hand and the change in the society. The only solace he had was with his friends Munna and Pandit, his life lines. Most of the time he would spend with them to avoid Daadi and Mr.Somani. " Kya baat hai  akle akle muskura rahe ho" stated Munna seeing Sameer who was still thinking about the call. " Kuch nahi bas aise hi kuch yaad aa gaya" replied Sameer. "Bhai teri aakhan to nahi ladi gayi kisise , kaunñn hai ? Bata de abhi jaa ke tera mamla fit kara detein hai" suggested Pandit . " Tum dono bhi yeh kya bak rahe ho,aisa kuch nahi. Abhi duphar mein ek wrong number aaya tha woh ladki ne na pucha kaun hai? kisse baat karni ? Bas ek dum express train ki tarah baatein karke phone rakh di. wahi yaad aaya. Ab chalo cricket khelne chaltein hai" . The trio agreed and headed to the ground,continuing their banter. Naina in her room "pata nahi kaun tha ? Result ke baare mein bataya to hoga na? Swati phone karegi to puch loungi uske baare mein. Aawaz ek dum Salman khan maafik thi.Taiji naa ati to puch leti  atleast aap kaun hai?" seeing Naina talking to herself Preeti said " Behen akele akele kya bad badaye jaa rahi hai? Isliye kehti houn kitaboun mei itna dimag na lagaya kar, pagal khane pahuch jayegi" . " Tu na padai ki baat kiya hi mat kar, sirf 43% lekar aayi hai  . khud kuch karti nahi bas dusroun ko bolne mein awal number." quipped Naina “Apni capacity 35% ki hai aur mai to pure saaaaaath percent zyada layi houn , tujhe to kush hona chahiye” countered Preeti. “Tu yeh chod na , Aaj Swati ko phone lagayi thi result samjhane ke liye “ and explained the phone conversation though it was one sided and said with a gleam in eyes “ pata nahi kaun tha awaz ek dum mast thi , Salman khan jaisi “  "Iska matlab tujhe tera prem mil gaya,????" Preeti jumped excitedly.   Before Naina could respond Chachiji entered their room and in orotund voice said “Bhagwan Jhooth na bulaye , tum log abhi tak yahi ho , chalo woh atta pisana hai jaldi karo warna taiji ka phir se puran shuru ho jayega “  “Tu kal phir se call karna , aur is baar aaram se baat karle aur puch le” whispered Preeti. Happily chatting both sisters went out for the task assigned. Naina felt a deep connection with Sameer. That night she kept thinking about him.  " Mere khawaboun mein jo aaye ,                                                                                                                               aake mujhe ched jaye,                                                                                                                                            use kaho kabhi samne to aaye"  DDLJ song kept playing in her mind. " Swati se sab puch loungi, kal pco se phone lagaoungi to aaram se baat ho payegi" , making this decision she happily went to sleep. Same was the case with Sameer, her voice echoed multiple times in his head. Every time he remembered the conversation a smile crept on his face. " Number kya tha haan 22244777, aasan tha yaad rahe gaya. Par tujhe uska number kyun yaad rakhna hai? tu kyun phone karega ?aur kya kahega kis liye phone kiya tha?  his brain questioned him while for reasons unknown his heart just wanted to listen to the sweet voice again.  Next day Naina dailed Swati's number at the same time hoping that she could hear him again , Holding the receiver fidgeting with the wire anxiously ,her heart beats raced with each ring. Sameer picked the phone anticipating it to be her and said " Hello", hearing his manly voice again she was lost in her dreamland. Euphonic Voice of Kishore kumar echoed at the background “Tera mujhse hai Pehle ka nata koi                                                                                                                   Yoohi nahi dil lubatha koi” .  After listening to the background song for  a minute he said " Helllllooooo, phone baat karne ke liye hota hai", gaane sunane ke liye nahi.  Naina coming back to her senses " Ji mai  Naina bol rahi houn,woh market mein houn na to gaane chal rahein hai dhukan mein .Swati se baat ho sakti hai?" He replied with a slight mischievous tone "Hmm , baat to Nahi ho sakti Swati se". " Kahi bahar gayi hai? Maine jo kal kahan tha aapne usko sab bata diya na? Phone kyun nahi kiya usne? " said swiftly with a little disappointment as she will not get information about him. "Sssshhh thoda rukko, yeh shatabdi express ki tarah bolne ki bimari hai tumhe? questioned Sameer  " STD hai aur woh bhi din mein, aaram se kaise baat kar saktein hai ? apne pocket money se kar rahi houn. aap use bata di jiye ga, mujhe phone karein. " Naina retorted " Mai nahi bata sakta , kyun ki yahan koi Swati nahi hai. Tumne wrong number dial kiya hai" Sameer responded. She repeated the number and he confirmed that’s the number but no one by Swati was there. May be she had noted it wrong ,in a gloomy tone she said “Accha , sorry to mai rakhti houn”, He wanted to continue but as she was using her pocket money for the call he said  reluctantly “ Bye “  to her. Few days passed but both could not forget the small talk they had.   " Wrong number kaha hai phir se kaise call karegi woh? kyun mai uski aawaz sunna chahata houn, kyun mera dil itna bechain hai? There were number of questions unanswered which Sameer failed to understand. He picked the phone couple of times to dial but could not gather the courage to talk to her. Thinking how to start the conversation he kept on moving to and fro, lost in his own world. Munna Pandit entered the room and kept watching him  " Bhai aise hi chalta raha na Delhi se Ahmedbad pahuch hi jayega" Pandit's voice brought him back. " Kya baat hai yeh bechain aashiq ki tarah kyun ghum raha hai" enquired Munna .  After a lot of pestering from both he told about her and then walking towards the window , with a heavy heart  " Nanu ke jaane ke baad ,tumhare alawa koi apna na laga. Aaj pehli baar koi apna sa lag raha hai,ek bechaini si hai uski aawaz sunna chahata houn." "Fikar not hum teri Naina ko dhund lenge, hum hai to kya gum hai" Pandit jested. "Munna to Munni ban jaa aur Naina ko phone laga,pehle apne Bhai ko aawaz to suna denge phir baki ka sochtein hai " Pandit commanded. "Bhai tere liye kuch bhi ", Munna dailed Naina's number nervously  and spoke in a feeble voice   " Ji Mai Munni bol rahi houn, Naina se baat ho sakti hai".  "Bhagwan jhooth na bulaye ,kuch khaya nahi hai kya aawaz hi nahi nikal rahi hai gale se,yeh aaj kal ki ladkiyan khati peeti kuch nahi hai. Naina se baat karni hai ? Ek minute" keeping the phone aside called out for Naina.  "Yeh aashiqui ke gaana chal raha hai aur yeh phone abhi aana tha, picked the phone humming the song " Bas ek sanam chahiye aashiqui ke liye " " Hello ? Hello ? . Preeti who was standing next to her whispered "Kahi tera  woh ajnabi to nahi??". Giving a death glance to Preeti, answered the caller" Ab baat nahi karni thi phone kyun lagaya ,bekar mein chitrahar ka maza kirkira kiya " and was about to keep the phone when she heard "Hello" from the other side . Sameer who had heard Preeti, mustered courage and spoke. Instantly recognizing the voice she said " kaaaa kaun bol rahe hai? walked to the balcony. Sameer playfully answered " Ab pehchan gayi ho to puch kyun rahi ho? " Waise gaana accha chal raha hai ek dum perfect for the situation" . Naina seeing him flirting openly got annoyed and said  " Aap mujhe aisi baatein nahi kar sakte, murmering to herself ,aawara kahin ka" disconnected the call. He dialed again ,knowing she would pick it up "Sorry ,mai to bas Swati ko result samjaya ya nahi puchne ke liye phone kiya tha". "Swati meri best friend hai,chuti ke baad aa hi jayegi aur mai bata doungi sab. Aapko kyun fikar ? Aap kaun hai? " questioned him with anger in her tone. " Nahi us din bahut pareshan lag rahi thi , isliye socha ki puch loun . " Sameer responded thinking how to ask for friendship. Naina : "Puch liya na ? Ab rakhoun "  . Sameer : "Mujhse dosti karogi ?" with a slight hesitancy added " jab se tumhari aawaz suni hai tumse baat karne ko dil chaha raha tha .". Listening to this she thought " Even he feels the same as I do , is he telling the truth?", Naina responded "Mai kyun aise hi kisi ajnabi se dosti karun,?" " Baat tumhari sahi hai. Par har dost pehle ajnabi to hota hai. Baat hoti hai ,ek dusre ko samajte hai tabhi dosti hoti hai. Dil ko lagta hai ki yeh mera accha dost ban sakta bas yahi ek ishara humein milta hai dosti shuru karne se pehle. Agar ek mahine mein mujhse baat karna accha na lage to promise mai kabhi tumse baat nahi karunga". Comprehending for sometime she said " Mai har din STD call nahi kar sakti itne paise nahi hote mere pass" Liking the honesty and humbleness in her he said " Tum mat karna , mai karounga. Tum time bata do" "Raat 11 baje ke baad karo,STD rate kam hoga aur sab soo rahein honge,mai phone apne pass rakh loungi " she suggested and quickly asked " Mai aapko kis naam se bulao" "Abhi jo naam diya tumne Aawara wahi samaj lo, jab tak tum mujhse dil se dost na maan lo"   Premi, aashiq, awara                                                                                                                                            Pagal, majnu, deewana                                                                                                                                    Mohabbat mein yeh naam humko mile hai                                                                                                   Tumhe joh pasand ho aji farmana dil jaana ,  was the song  playing in the Chitrahar program   "Dekho ekdum perfect song " he said slyly.  "Aap phir se !! " Naina retorted with a slight anger  "Sorry Sorry ", sirf dost hai aur dosti mein thoda mazak chalta hai "  he answered politely  "Thik hai , mai aapka naam tab tak nahi puchoungi jab tak aap khud hoke na batoge, good night " with this she cut the call. Munna and Pandit were watching with open mouth at the conversation,. Happily ending the call when he looked at his friends he tried to divert the topic and said "chalo kuch bahar meetha khake aate hai". Pandit coming to senses " Yeh kya tha?? Tu sach bata kahan mila tha usse,ajnabi se itni baatein to ho nahi sakti",  Sameer spoke ardently " Sach mein yaar,mai khud nahi janta. Aisa laga jaise janmoun se janta houn. Laga hi nahi pehli baar baat huvi".  "Hayee Hayee , matlab tu to gaya kaam se  ,  Yeh bandan to pyar ka bandan hai janmoun ka sagam hai " Pandit started his usual banter. " Tu chup kar. Dekh Sameer Ladki bhale ghar ki lagti hai aur hai bhi masoom aur sidhi,dekh uska dil na dhuka aur uska lihaz rakh" Munna advised. Agreeing to it they all headed to have some sweet and celebrate their  phone friendship. Naina couldn' t believe she agreed for friendship with a unknown person whom she has never seen. Her brain questioned her stupidity but her heart felt content.  When the sisters were on their own in their room, Naina narrated the conversation she had with her phone friend. A bit hesitantly she asked" Yeh mai thik kar rahi houn kya?". Preeti knew her sister very well, to assure her she said" Tune aaj tak kisi ladke se baat nahi ki hai aur ki bhi hai to sirf kuch kaam se. Yeh pehli baar tujhe koi aisa laga jisse tu baat karna chahati hai aur dosti karna chahati hai,is mein koi burai nahi" with a dreamy look in her eyes she said " Kash mujhe bhi koi aisa phone friend mil jaye, aaj kal waise bhi Dil to Pagal hai ka bukhar chada hai" ,someone somewhere is made for you, ab soo jaa aur mujhe bhi sone de". Naina kept pondering on the thought "Is he the special someone ? . She prayed to God to help her in this new journey and slept peacefully. Next day at sharp 11 p.m the phone rang, Naina picked the call at the first ring itself. Sameer : " Mere phone ka intezaar kar rahi thi?" Najna : "Nahi to" though it was true. Sameer: "Pehle hi ring pe phone uthya tumne? Kaise keh rahi ho intezaar nahi kar rahi thi"?? Naina : " Ab raat ke 11 baje phone ring karne deti to sara ghar uth jata " she defended. Sameer:" Accha baba ab jagdo mat,Kaisi ho tum? Kaun rehta hai tumhare ghar pe? Naina: " Mai thik houn. Mai apne chacha chachi aur meri cousin Preeti ke saath rehti houn. Maa mujhe janam dete hi guzar gayi .Papa aur Bhaiya tauji ke yahan rehte hai. Chachaji mujhe bahut chahatein hai aur mere sab kuch. Aap kaise hai ? Aap ke ghar par kaun hai? is waqt phone karne se or woh bhi STD koi nahi daantega aapko?" finished her share of talk in one single breath. Sameer: " Tum hamesha se aise bolti houn ya mere saath hi yeh special case hai. ?  Naina :  " STD call hai na har minute ka paisa lagta hai aur mai nahi chahati ke aapke paise zyada kharch ho" Sameer smiled at the concern she had and told her not to worry about it.  Sameer : " Mai bhi thik houn. Mere ghar pe Maa hai aur unke pati , saas aur 2 bache Rohit aur Deepika. aur koi nahi daant tha mujhe " Naina a little puzzled asked "Unke pati kyun aapke pitaji huve na", Sameer then explained his mothers second marriage and how he has lost his mother love after the marriage. "Bas Nanu hi mere dost,guide, maa, pita sab kuch the.  Jab tak woh saath the mujhe kabhi koi kami nahi hone di. Unke jaane ke baad ek khalipan hai dil mein" he said in a melancholy voice with tears pooled up.  " Aap ro mat ,unka aashirwad hamesha aapke sath hai. Aapse dur thodi hi hai aapke dil mein rehte hai " Naina tried to console him. Though his friends understood the pain he had suffered after Nanu's demise he had not spoken openly about it to anyone but with Naina he opened his heart and spoke about his sadness.  "Aasman mein sitaro ko dekhiye, jo sabse zyada chamak rahein hai un mein meri maa aur aapke Nanu hai .Woh humein is tarah udass nahi dekh sakte, chaliye ab muskuraiye." looking at the stars he smiled and after a while talking about Delhi life and Ahmedabad life both bid good night to each other. Everynight they would talk about the days events  and other usual day to day things. Sometimes even though there was not much to say, talking to each other for few minutes would bring peace to their heart.  Sameer was cheerful these days and seemed happy. Vishaka was very happy , after a long time smile had returned on her sons face. She decided to prepare his favorite dishes for dinner. This didn't go well with Daadi. " Sameer aaj mai special dinner bana rahi  houn tere liye ghar par hi dinner karna bahar nahi" Vishaka said to Sameer while he was going out in the evening.  Around 10.00 Daadi suggested Vishaka to take rest and she would take care of Sameer's dinner. Once Vishaka left Daadi asked Keshav to pack the food and give it away. Sameer returned around 10.30 and looked for dinner in the fridge but could not find anything. Seeing him searching the food she said " woh dinner itna accha bana tha ki kuch bacha hi nahi" . Sameer knew its was another drama Daadi had played. Slamming the fridge door he went angrily to his room. As per usual routine he called Naina, but seemed a bit irritated and sad. When she prodded for the reason he told the foul play of Daadi. After listening and pausing for a while she asked " Aapne kuch khaya? " . "Nahi, ab mann nahi hai" he said dejectedly.  " Hamare zindagi mein kuch aise log hote hai jinhe humein dhuk pahucha kar maza aata hai. Daadi bhi yahi chahati hai ki aap gussa karrein aur udas ho jayein. Aur aap wahi kar rahein hai aur unko woh khushi de rahein hai. Mera manna hai jab koi aisa karre to ek muskurahat dekar unki iccha ko wahi maar dena chahiye. Aur har insaan ko chahe ladka ho ya ladki thoda bahut khana banana aana chahiye. Chaliye aap kitchen mein mai aaj aapko masala poha banana sikhati houn bahut aasan hai. " Wow masala poha " yeh to mera favourite hai. Naina asked him to get all the ingredients at one place and then provided one by one instruction. How she wished if she could wipe his tears while he was cutting onions. After 20 mins poha was ready. Tasting it he said " zabardast bana hai. " Naina laughed at it and said" khud ki banayi huvi cheez hamesha acchi lagti hai aur aapne to pehli baar banaya hai" and she chatted with him until he finished it completely . Once done she asked him to take one glass of hot milk it would help him sleep well.  That night Naina prayed for his happiness and asked God to take care of him. Sameer lying on his bed with Nanus photo in his hand  " Aap hi tarah mera koi aur dhyan rakhne laga hai, aaj usne mujhe bhooka sone nahi diya. Pata hai aapki tarah hi mujhe sahi galat samjhati hai. Lagta hai Nanu mai usse pyar karne laga houn. Mai nahi janta woh kaisi dekhti hai par uska dil bahut khoobsurat hai. Mai uske sath hota houn to dil bahut khush rehta hai. " he kept wondering how she would look though it didn't matter but a desire to see her was slowly growing within him.   Aaj phir dilne ik tamanna ki                                                                                                                                  Aaj phir dilko humne samjhaya  Zindagi dhoop tum Ghana saayaTumko dekha to yeh khayal aaya. Soothing voice of Jagit Singh was playing on vivid bharti as part of guldasta program.  " Jab bhi Naina ki koi baat hoti hai, us situation ke hisaab se gaane bajte hai ,kya yeh ishara hai uparwale ka mere liye ? He kept thinking about it and drifted to sleep. Naina helped him with studies and provided support whenever he needed. Often he would tease her "pyar ho jayega mujhe itna khayal rakhougi to "  or " Pyar Dosti hai " . She never objected to these remarks. He was content with her . His friends were very happy and thanked Naina silently in their hearts for bringing back their original Sameer. Daadi was not happy with Sameer's happiness and tried to take each opportunity to insult or cause pain to him. But  Sameer followed the mantra Naina had thought him, he never used to get angry or upset. Which irritated her more.  " Maa aaj India Pakistan ka match aa ra na, Munna aur pandit dono aaj nahi to hum saath mein dekhenge aaj ". Vishaka was very happy to give company to his son. Daadi taking this an opportunity sent Vishaka with Somani to a relative.  When Sameer returned she said sadly " Vishaka to bahar gayi hai aur cable bhi kharab ho gaya hai ,tum to ab match nahi dekh sakte" expecting Sameer to burst out. Sameer understood Daadi's plan and said " Thank you mai yahi soch raha tha kal ke exam ke liye khud ko kaise roko match dekhne se, ab cable nahi to mai aaram se padh sakta houn " whistling he went to his room leaving a fuming Daadi. Later that night he excitedly told Naina how he outwitted Daadi's plan " Mai bahut khush houn thank you tumne mujhe sikha diya Daddi se deal karne ka, I love " suddenly paused . Naina had held her breath hearing " I love"  wishing he would say those three magical words but her wish remained unfulfilled and said " tum mere sabbbbbbse acchi dost ho" . There was silent laughter in his voice. Most of the times the topic of meeting would pop up but end up saying "to" , not able to convey the feelings.  She had read "the best love story is when you fall in love with the most unexpected person at the unexpected time" . She prayed for her love to be successful and silently in her heart she said " I love you"  . On the other side Sameer looking at the moon said " I love you Naina, ab dur raha nahi jata"  Naina informed Sameer that she will be going to attend a marriage and wont be able to talk to him for 3 days. Sameer was very sad at first understanding her situation " Thik hai tum har raat is waqt chand ko dekhna aur mai bhi dekhonga. Hamari nazare chand par milengi aur chand ke saath hamari baat hogi. ". Later he enquired what she is wearing and imagined her in his thoughts. The desire to see her and be with her in person was increasing day by day. Naina's thoughts also were on the same line.  A year had passed.  With the help of Naina , Sameer had scored 72% and Naina had topped with 92%. That day Sameer said to his mother he will be going to Ahmedabad and would complete his B.com there. Later along with business he would pursue M.B.A. Vishaka was finally happy to see Sameer carving out his own future.  She called Munshiji and arranged for the admission in the same college Sameer had informed and gave him instructions and advised to take care of Sameer.  Sameer wanted to surprise Naina by joining the same college , so he didn't reveal his plan to her. He bought some chocolates, a card to propose and few ear-rings. His excitement to meet her had no bound.A pleasant feeling of excitement and an expectation of something joyful arouse within him. He had informed Naina that he would not be able to call her for two days.  After reaching Ahmedabad, Sameer decided to visit Law garden , he used to come along with his Nanu to enjoy the delicious food .He strolled the market for some time and went to a near by shop to buy campa cola.  Preeti and Naina had decided to enjoy their last day of vacation before starting their college life. After eating thiki pani puri to their heart content , they headed to the same shop to buy Mangola . Ordering two Mangola  Preeti said  " Bada maza aaya , hayee Kash har din aisa hota . Soch yeh college padai na hoti to  life kitni mazedar hoti ni ". "Tu bas padai na karne ke bahane dhund " Naina said and chuckled. Sameer Naina both felt each other's presence , one ignored thinking its the excitement and the other effect of missing him badly. That Night Sameer couldn't sleep, the excitement and nervousness kept him awake. What if she considers if as only best friend ? Does she also feel the same? if she likes some one else" there were lots of "What if's" ," but's" running in his mind.  He decided he will not let her know who is he and will try to understand what she feels first.. Next day he got up early and reached the college first.  In that white polo tee and blue Jeans he looked ravishing , his bag sligning over his shoulder. Waiting near his bike he kept on searching for his Naina, Silently closing his eyes he prayed " Aap har baar gaana sunake , isahara kar detein ho , is baar bhi meri madad kardo " , as soon as he opened his eyes he saw two girls getting down from the auto and at the same time " Mere Rang mein rangne wali pari ho ya ho pariyoun ki rani " started playing at the near by cassette shop.  "Ab dono mein se kaun Naina hai? " looking carefully he decided yeh blue wali shalwar kameez is the one . Her innocence’ reflected the smiling face of a child. The purity and naivety her face glowed bringing in it a heavenly charm. She'd let her hair down , just falling short of her waist.Her face spoke of light makeup. Her eyes were lined with kohl and her lips had a light lipstick on. She looked breathtaking .  Swati joined Preeti and Naina . "Dekh ek dum Salman type , mast ladka khada hai aur idhar hi ghur raha hai". Naina not pleased with the way he was staring at her " Har Salman Khan jaise dekhne wala MPK ka Prem nahi hota ". His gaze made her heart beat faster , she murmered " Aye Dil mohabbat mein itna bhi pagal na ho jao , kisi ko bhi dekh kar dhadkana shuru kardo "  Naina was displeased as she couldn't be in the same section as Preeti and Swati. "Chal Naina baad mein milte hai " , Swati and Preeti left to their class.  Now it was confirmed she was his Naina he raised his imaginary collar " Sameer Maheshwari ka andaza galat ho hi nahi sakta ".  Sameer smiled a little as he sauntered over to her and stopped near her desk" kya main yahan bait sakta houn ?" . Naina hearing his voice " Yeh awaaz unki tarah kyun hai ? Is he the same? kept staring at him , as if he read her eyes, he smirked and settled himself next to her. Trying to act cool she said "Aap kahi aur baitye "  ?  "Maine pucha tumko aur tumne to koi jawab nahi diya aur mujhe mein kho gayi , Sameer Maheswari ka jadu hi aisa hai . Ladkiyan mar mit jati hai, Ab to is saal pura mai to tumhare pass hi baitunga" . Not knowing what to do she moved to other bench , he followed her . At last Naina sat on a vacant seat near to a girl and looked at him "Ab kya karoge "? " Sameer adjusted his silky hair with his fingers and requested the other girl to give her seat , the girl happily obliged. "Lucky ho  tum. jo Sameer ke saath baiti ho .., ab tamasha na bane class mein bait jao nahi to pura din bench bench kheltein rahenge"he exclaimed. "Kaha tha maine Swati ko har koi Prem nahi hota " she murmured and sat reluctantly.  Recollecting that his voice sounded like him , she mumbled "Premi, aashiq, awara  ,Pagal, majnu, deewana " "Kya kahan tumne?, mai to sirf tumhare pass baita houn aur tum to pata nahi kya samaj rahi ho. Mai aisa ladka nahi houn , aur is tarah baat na karo . Bas pass baita houn tumhare , yeh pyar vaar ke chakkar mein nahi padhna " Knowing very well , that she wanted to confirm that he was her phone friend his heart was doing flip-flops. "Mujhe bhi aap jaise ladkoun se baat karne ka shauk nahi hai, aur yeh surat pe itna gamand hai na aapko , is ka mujh par koi asar nahi hota. Insaan ka dil khubsurat hona chahiye , shakal na bhi hoto chalega aur waise bhi mai kissi .. "she paused "Bas aur kuch nahi " she snapped at him "Meri Naina " his heart chanted and she averted her eyes from his intense gaze. "Mere dil sambhal jaa , pata nahi iska mere dil pe kyun asar ho raha , yeh 2 din se baat nahi huvi to mera dil bhi pagal ho gaya hai" confused about her feelings she immediately made a note to call Sameer tonight. Neither Naina nor Sameer could concentrate in the class.   Immediately after the class Naina ran out to meet Preeti and Swati. Sameer quickly followed her and pulled her in the music room. "Yeh kya batameezi hai ?? " she flared. Holding his hands to ear he said her "Sorry , par mujhe tum se baat karni thi. 5 minute mil sakta hai " . "Bolo , jaldi " she replied. " Bahut si ladkiyan aayi meri zindagi mein , jo sirf mere surat ko dekh kar marti thi. tum woh pehli ladki ho jisse mere handsome hone se kuch farak nahi pada. Mujhe aise ek khas ka intezar tha , kya tum meri khas dost banogi ?" .  Naina stood there confused and not knowing what to answer," its better to set things right with a clear expectation " she thought and said " Mujhe aap se dosti karne mein koi dikat nahi hai par isse zyada umeed mat kijiye. Mai kisi aur se pyar karti houn " . His world crashed then and there . " Aapko shayad yeh ajeeb lage , maine unhe kabhi dekha nahi aur na unhone. Hum har din baat karte hai , har choti badi baatein share karte hai . Unka dil bahut khoobsurat hai. Pata nahi kab kaise mai unse pyar kar baiti . Mai to unka naam bhi nahi janti , par hai mera aawara " . she chuckled.  His heart did  summersalt hearing this " To bataya tumne , ki tum unse pyar karti ho" . "Nahi abhi tak , bahut jald hi woh din aayega " . "Agar usko tumse pyar na hoto? Tab kya karogi ? " he enquired . She answered with a gentle smile " Jab maine unse pyar kiya tha tab yeh shart to nahi lagayi thi ki woh bhi mujhse pyar karre . Chahe woh mujhse pyar karre ya na karre , mai unse bahut pyar karti houn aur zindagi bhar karti rahoungi".  Her eyes sparkled with the love she had  and  went on speaking about them .  He said "Tum kaise bataogi , ki tum usse pyar karti ho". "Jab woh meri aakhoun mein dekhenge to unhe nazar aayega." . He had tears in her eyes listening to this . He moved close to her when a few inches he held her hand and looking into her eyes he said "Nazar aa gaya " . She blinked her eyes and stared at him in confusion. Remembering K.L. Saigal on his 113th birth anniversary.

Kundan Lal Saigal often abbreviated as K. L. Saigal (11 April 1904 – 18 January 1947) was a singer and actor who is considered the first superstar of the Hindi film industry, which was centred in Kolkata during Saigal's time, but is currently centred in Mumbai.

In the early 1930s, classical musician and music director Harishchandra Bali brought K.L. Saigal to Calcutta and introduced him to R. C. Boral. R.C. Boral took an instant liking to his talents. Saigal was hired by B. N. Sircar's Calcutta-based film studio New Theatres on a contract of Rs. 200 per month. There he came into contact with contemporaries like Pankaj Mullick, K. C. Dey and Pahari Sanyal.

Meanwhile, Indian Gramophone Company had released Saigal's record containing a couple of Punjabi songs composed by Harishchandra Bali. In this way, Bali became Saigal's first music director. The first film in which Saigal had a role was the film Mohabbat Ke Ansu, followed by Subah Ka Sitara and Zinda Lash, all released in 1932. However, these films did not do very well. Saigal used the name Saigal Kashmiri for his first three films and used his own name Kundan Lal Saigal (K. L. Saigal) from Yahudi Ki Ladki (1933). In 1933, four bhajans sung by Saigal for the film Puran Bhagat created a sensation throughout India. Other films that followed were Yahudi Ki Ladki, Chandidas, Rooplekha and Karwan-E-Hayat. As a youngster, Lata Mangeshkar is alleged to have said that she wanted to marry K.L. Saigal after seeing his performance in Chandidas (1934). In 1935, Saigal played the role that would come to define his acting career: that of the drunken title character in Devdas, based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's novel of the same name and directed by P.C. Barua. His songs in the film Devdas (1935), Balam Aaye Baso Moray Man Mein and Dukh Ke Ab Din Beetat Naahi, became popular throughout the country.

Saigal picked up Bengali very well and acted in seven Bengali films, produced by New Theatres. Rabindranath Tagore first heard Saigal before giving consent for the first time to a non-Bengali singing his songs. Saigal endeared himself to the whole of Bengal through his 30 Bengali songs.

Saigal's association with New Theatres continued to bear fruit in the successful films Didi (Bengali), President (Hindi) in 1937, Desher Mati (Bengali), Dharti Mata (Hindi) in 1938, Saathi (Bengali), Street Singer (Hindi) in 1938, Dushman (1939), Jiban Maran (1939) and Zindagi in 1940, with Saigal in the lead. There are a number of songs of this era which form the rich heritage of film music in India. Also, in Street Singer, Saigal rendered the song Babul Mora Naihar Chhooto Jaye live in front of the camera, even though playback was becoming the preferred method of singing songs in films.

In December 1941, Saigal moved to Mumbai to work with Ranjit Movietone. Here he acted and sang in a number of successful films. Bhukt Surdas (1942) and Tansen (1943) were hits during this period. The latter film is still remembered for Saigal's performance of the song Diya Jalao in Raga Deepak; in the same movie, he also sang "Sapta Suran,Tin .. Gaa-o Saba Guni Jan". In 1944, he returned to New Theatres to complete My Sister. This film contained the songs Do Naina Matware and Ae Qatib-e-Taqdeer Mujhe Itna Bata De.

By this time, alcohol had become a predominant factor in Saigal's life. His dependence on alcohol had begun affecting his work and his health. It was said that he could only record a song after being fortified with liquor. He survived ten years of drinking; however, his alcoholism was too advanced for even a single attempt at abstinence, and Saigal died in his ancestral city of Jalandhar on 18 January 1947, at the age of 42. However, before his death, he was able to churn out three more hits under the baton of Naushad Ali for the film Shahjehan (1946). These are Mere Sapnon Ki Rani, Ae Dil-e-Beqaraar Jhoom and Jab Dil Hi Toot Gaya. Parwana (1947) was his last film, released after his death, in which he sang under the baton of Khawaja Khurshid Anwar. The four songs which Saigal sang in Parwana are: Toot gaye sab sapne mere, Mohabbat mein kabhi aisi bhi haalat, Jeene ka dhang sikhaae ja, and Kahin ulajh na jaana. Saigal was survived by his wife Asha Rani (whom he married in 1935); three children, a son and two daughters: Madan Mohan, Nina (born 1937) and Bina (born 1941); and an adopted child, his late elder brother's daughter, Durgesh Nandani, whom he adopted when he was still single.

In a career of fifteen years, Saigal acted in 36 feature films – 28 in Hindi, seven in Bengali, and one in Tamil. In addition, he acted in a short comedy Hindi film, Dulari Bibi (three reels), released in 1933. In 1955, B.N. Sircar released a documentary film based on the life of K.L. Saigal, Amar Saigal. In the film, G. Mungheri performed the title role of Saigal. The film contained 19 songs lifted from Saigal's films. In all, Saigal rendered 185 songs which includes 142 film songs and 43 non-film songs. Of the film songs, there are 110 in Hindi, 30 in Bengali and two in Tamil. There are 37 non-film songs in Hindi, and two each in Bengali, Pashto, Punjabi and Persian. His non-film songs comprise bhajans, ghazals and hori. He has rendered the creations of poets such as Ghalib, Zauq, and Seemab.

Saigal's distinctive singing was revered and idolised by the first generation of post-independence Hindi Film playback singers, including Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar, Mohammad Rafi, and Mukesh. Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar has even gone on record in an interview that they consider Kundan Lal Saigal to be their musical guru. K L Saigal became famous because of the 'new' technology of 78 rps lac records and players. Mukesh started his career as a copycat of K L Saigal but went on to develop his distinctive style. These records were recorded in one take with all instruments playing along. Today this may not be possible.In 1970 one such record was priced at Rs 15. In today's money, it is equivalent to Rs 1500 for two songs.
